    The Italian husband looked so mortified every time his wife said "no," like he was worried he'd committed some sort of secret crime, no matter how many times she followed up every time with appreciation. Looked ready to cry if he'd even mildly upset his wife by bringing home so much nice dairy for both of them. Also his confusion when he said, "but this is only a two-month supply?" buddy there is no such thing as too much cheese.

    My wife made me a large crochet plush blanket. Had me choose the colors. She then proceeded to spend the next 2 years working on it. She worked on other projects cause she sells winter wear, hoodies, and stuffed for friends and coworkers. I chose a difficult shape but she still did it. All the times I saw her realize she missed a stitch or made too many stitches in a round and then have to unravel what must have been 30 minutes to an hour of work just to go back and have to redo all that work. 2 YEARS of this. The day I came home and she said go look on the bed. I come out crying. It's ugly as he'll and I love it. Again it's ugly cause I chose the colors. It has been my constant companion at home. It is my chair cover on my chair. When she's at work and I'm missing her, I turn my head and rub my face on the plush just loving that she loves me enough to put up with not only me in general, but to make me a labor of love like that. The perfect woman does exist. And the poor thing married an undeserving idiot. I love her soooo much.

    Is it ok if I take this moment to brag about my own green-flag dad? He's a teacher at my school, and apparently he has so many kids trying to get into his course, they needed to create more classes for it. His classroom is where the struggling or rambunctious students do the best because he was once one, and he wants to create a nice space for them where they can be excepted. As far as I've heard, every person who's had his class absolutely loved it. The other students who have parents teaching at our school barely even say hi to them in the hallways, but I'm not ashamed to give him a hug when I see him in school. I'm actually taking his class right now, and I can see why everyone loves it. I love him so much and I'm so proud of him.

    Also, the pulp reminds me of my husband when I was pregnant. I had to have orange juice to help with iron and my husband accidentally got me pulp. I hate orange juice in general but pulp is the expired semen of Satan. My husband instantly went to get me the right orange juice, plus a common craving I had and when I cried that I was wasting money by being picky (hormones) he told me I wasn't allowed to drink the pulp one cause it was his and he didn't want to share.

      The skirt is going to be big and there will be enough layers to it, that I would rather we use all of that hard work rather than hiding it in a closet. Clothes are meant to be worn. Fabric is meant to be used.
      Id rather run my hands over it every day for the rest of my life than only see it a few days. And if it gets damaged, then I'll pull out another panel of the skirts and remake it. A physical depiction of the work and healing a relationship requires.

      I LOVED that one. I knit for family and I'm so happy that they know how long it takes and are grateful. Knitting in front of them as a kid taught them how long it takes so they know I'm handing them dozens of hours of my time. People accepting the gift knowing what it took from the crafter make me so happy.
      On a related note, I recently discovered that knitted bunnies are a very fast project, so if you aren't sure how much someone will appreciate your time or are making something for a small child who might accidentally destroy it, they're great! You just knit a square then handsew it (searching "how to knit a practice square rabbit" on youtube should show a tutorial) so it's a great project for kids to learn too! In the time I could have made only the simplest, smallest baby blanket, I was able to make one rabbit for each of my nieces, plus two backups each for their parents to hold on to in case the first one is lost or damaged.

    • @Just1Nora
      @Just1Nora 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Nerobyrne Yeah, I have multiple chronic but invisible disabilities, multiple pain conditions, and people generally treat me as an inconvenience at best. I've recently been using a cane in public, and honestly, I was treated so kindly by another customer in Petsmart the other day, and I didn't understand being treated so nice. It was like, "Woah! What did I do to deserve such treatment?" First he let me go in front of him in line, and as we were waiting I asked if I could pet his puppy and after I got halfway down said, "Here, let me pick him up!" We talked about the pup a bit, and it was nice. It felt so odd though. When my cane fell down from resting on the checkout counter and he rushed to pick it up for me, it finally clicked. Kindness, but with an aftertaste, and then my own feelings of shame. I can walk without it; it just hurts like hell. It can lay me up for days in recovery, and might require an emergency chiropractor trip, but I don't "need" the cane. It's an uncomfortable mix of feelings. I almost prefer the burden treatment as it is familiar and expected.
      I think that's why the humor is so refreshing. It doesn't feel like pitty or trying to ignore the elephant. Acknowledge it's there, but don't make it the focus. Disabled people are people first, not disabled first. I think that as a society we need to change the way kids are taught to view and treat disabled people, but I'm not exactly sure how one would even start...
      I will say that my nearly 4 yr old niece has been wonderful. The last time I was over she actually took my cane, walked across the living room with it, including mimicking my limp, and then turned around, gave me the biggest beaming smile and said, "Look! I'm just like you!" I nearly cried...I said, "Yup, you sure are!" Then I shortened it so she could play with it a bit. She just wanted to be like her auntie. She calls me her friend Nora, and that works too. 😊

Now I'm 32 and he still calls nearly everyday just to check up on us and to talk, every couple weeks he tries to cook an amazing dinner for us like gumbo, steak and lobster, chicken salad with croissants etc.(he used to be a chef.) he constantly tries to slip us money to treat ourselves, and he will "accidentally" over buy groceries (steak bits, 5lb quality lean beef, thick cut bacon, sausages, frozen prepackaged meals etc.) That he insists we must take because he has no room (he has room) he also buys treats (or COOKS treats) specifically for my cats. I finished it at 4am Christmas morning, and wrapped it just in time for the family to wake up and open presents. I was so worried I wasn’t going to finish it on time!!! And let me tell you! My husband didn’t take that hat off for nearly two days!!! ❤

He loved it. The next year when our anniversary rolled around I asked him if there was anything particular he'd like and he said he wanted another frog painting, so this time I painted a girlfriend for the first frog and gave her a little flower. He loved that one too, and he keeps them both on his bedside table. My sister sews and crochets and made him a little frog pin for Christmas that was super cute and he put it next to my paintings and now I call it his frog shrine. I love that man so much.

    11:20 Oh my god. That blanket is a labor of love. I'm tearing up seeing it. I'm a knitter and looking at the direction of the rows, she either used specialty kneedles that were heavy and tiring to use or she knit every row perfectly to line up multiple pieces of work together. It's so beautiful and even, I bet she had to take out rows and go back so many times. Maintaining consistent shape for the long is so hard, that's amazing. People so often don't realize how much work goes into making crafted items, so the appreciation he's showing is that much sweeter. That is someone who deserves the work, that is the reason we do it.

      I do crochet so I can give a little context. That looked like single crochet. Each stitch is made individually. The whole row doesn't have to be held like in knitting. But yes, it still takes a really long time, takes a lot of yarn and I'm sure you already know that yarn is expensive.

    • @Jacqueline_Thijsen
      @Jacqueline_Thijsen หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I knit very tightly because I hate loose looking stitches. It's bad enough that I have trouble knitting with regular needles because moving the loops over the needles is quite difficult. This coincidentally ensures that the stitches are so even people have made surprised remarks on it. Surprising me in turn because I didn't realize not everyone knits that way. Anyway, my needles only have the tips in the proper size and the rest is thinner. And I can honestly tell you my knitting needles are my "take 'em out of my cold dead hands" objects. But anyway, anxiety makes for even knitting. Yay.

    • @Just1Nora
      @Just1Nora 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Jacqueline_Thijsen I'm the focus crocheter/knitter. My stitching starts neat and even and then my heavy-handedness kicks in as I focus, and my stitches shrink and shrink and shrink! 😅 I always had more difficulty with knitting because of my tight stitches and the needles not moving well. I'm trying to get back into crochet, but I know I'm gonna need one of those yarn tension rings because otherwise I develop death grip! 😂 I'm heavy handed with writing and drawing too, so it's not exactly unexpected, but all 3 are frustrating!

    Lmao 0:42 I understand him asking her if she’s got super smell or not. I worked with a deaf woman and she was an opener, would come in around 8am. I was a closer, left around 8pm. She would complain about the “overwhelming” bleach smell from us disinfecting the kitchen the night before. None of us could smell it but for her she had an incredibly sensitive nose.

    • @Just1Nora
      @Just1Nora 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      I think it's more that when Millennials and older were kids there was a misconception going around that removing one sense made the others stronger to compensate, which of course we now know is false. In a similar way, when I was a kid textbooks used show that different areas of the tongue sensed the different types of taste, salt, sweet, sour, bitter. Like you could only taste one kind of thing in each area...we tried it and most of us could taste each type in the other areas, but we just had to trust what the book said, or that eating carrots actually improves your vision, especially night vision, and that's just plain false.
      There are people who are extra sensitive to smells, sounds, light, and taste, either individually or all together. I'm extra sensitive to everything, and a bit triggered when someone says I'm "so sensitive" as growing up that was a derogatory way to complain that I couldn't handle different sensations. Turns out I likely have sensory processing disorder, and yeah, my brain turns everything up to 11, including sense of pain, which is super fun btw. I honestly didn't know that other people don't hurt every second of every day. How does that even work? What do y'all feel most of the time? Also, when I get migraines, probably 15-25 days a month, at the start of one particularly I suddenly can smell the smells of my house. Everyone generally becomes "nose blind" to the smell of their own home and typically only notice it after they have spent a good number of hours to days in a different place, but last night I noticed the old paper/library smell of the living room as I walked by, the old wooden furniture and stagnant air smell of my dad's bedroom, and if he bleaches the toilet downstairs and across the house, it is overwhelming for hours! I just try to sleep during that time, and I used to ask him to not do it until my migraine was over. I've had women's perfume smells chase me around the grocery store, through my mask, and others don't even notice them at all. It really sucks!

She didn't know I had issues with textures in drinks and foods and only found out when she saw I didn't touch the glass of OJ she gave me with my breakfast. Next thing I knew, she was digging through the cabinets to find the only strainer in her house. it was so small it took about 3 minutes for the glass to be free of pulp. I felt so bad in the moment because I thought I was just being needlessly picky over some pulp in my OJ. But now, it just shows the lengths my grandma would go to in order to make sure I was happy despite it being extremely unnecessary. I don't think she knows I still remember that day so clearly or even remembers it herself but, that act of kindness really changed how I go about my every day life. Even if its small, going out of your way to do something nice for someone can make one hell of a lasting impression or, even give them a reason to keep going.

      @@justarandomgothamite5466 They built a nice new housing tract of single-family homes. I live in an MHP a family Park, not a Senior park.
      So all the kids ditched us for the new houses & they never came back. Our last Trick or Treators was in 2013. We always had good candy & sometimes full-sized candy bars.
      I still bought candy up until 2020.
      Then I stopped, I would eat all the candy.
      I am moving, into a normal neighborhood so?
      We might get to celebrate this year, We shall see.
      It is funny I help an 84+y/o lady who lives in a Seinor-only MHP & she said, "I got new neighbors & they moved in they have a handicapped kid, how can they do that it is a senior park, no kids!" I thought about it & answered, that there is a good chance that they have a forever child, I said, "If they are old enough to get into the park, then that kid might not be an actual child. But a handicapped adult is a forever child. " I asked, have you seen him she said, "Well, yeah, I cautioned my neighbor that a strange guy was seen hanging around, and They said they were his parent, my new neighbor, I got so embarrassed...he was a maybe 30y/o man, not a child...I couldn't believe it!"
      LOL, I am sorry, this lady is almost 100, my goodness, she cracks me up... the durp runs deep...

    Growing up is realizing what’s bad, and avoiding it. Being grown up in a relationship is the same, but you also need to realize what makes you happy, and do it. This video is a good example of people finding and/or doing what makes them happy.

    Crochet takes SUCH a long time, especially a full blanket. That one took a lot of hours. My grandma did crochet and she was so pleased to finish this lovely brown, orange, and yellow blanket (it was the 70s, lol) and attach all of her granny squares! I'm doing crochet now and it's a TON of work! Even simple single row repeats like the one in the video take a ton of time and when you get into complicated stuff like intricate granny squares and mosaic crochet, it just gets crazier!

      Amigurumi is even worse, trying to get all the parts to line up. My best friend's little girl loves Mipha from the newest Zelda games, but there aren't many Mipha toys. I made the mistake of saying I could make a Mipha with no pattern. Thank goodness that child loved it, because I was ready to burn it lol!

    I crocheted my husband a Baltimore Ravens logo blanket that has the Raven's head and their team logo on it. I spent probably close to 200$ in yarn on it and spent more than 100 hours crocheting it. It was my largest project that I have ever made and I don't think he really knows or understands just how much time and effort and love I put into that blanket, but he loves it. He uses it ALL THE TIME. It warms my heart every time I see him use it, so for that guy to basically be in tears of the blanket that his wife crocheted him that looks like it was made with blanket yarn which is probably double the amount of money spent than what I spent on the afghan I made for my husband, makes me want to cry. For someone to really, truly appreciate the time and effort that goes into making something like that fills me so much happiness.

    11:32 for some context, I did one designed to go under the chest portion of a sleeping bag, for extra protection for my brother during college. It was roughly 1x0.5m and took me about three weeks. It was single crotchet? I think? and it took me three weeks of consistent work, and half to a full skein of yarn I had. So materials-wise, eight bucks, 3 weeks of time, and some grey yarn that should be insulating for cooler nights. Did some chain stitch ties for securing it to a backpack for his hikes.

My fiancé loves his pieces, all his blankets and scarves etc. He loves to claim his favorite colored skeins out when I come home with a few new ones , giving me ideas on colors, and when he receives them, he looks like a child on Christmas. About the girl dad comments; my dad has 4 daughters and in our small town, it seemed that the thing people were surprised by the most wasn't the fact that we were all girls, but the fact that there were 4 of us. The comment I heard my dad get repeatedly when we were all out with him was "are ALL these YOURS?!?!" People acted like we were the Weasley's.

    I am one of 6 girls, no boys. My dad will often hear: “y’all must have tried for a boy and kept getting girls.” Or “wait until they’re teenagers, it’ll be a mess of hormones and you’ll wish for a boy then.” Now that the oldest is 22 and youngest 13 my dad says that though the teenage years weren’t the easiest, they were the best. My dad loves being a girl dad and his first grandchild is a girl. He wouldn’t change it for the world. He’s socially awkward and quiet, but never fails to speak up when someone says something like that.
