Review of AutoSky Wireless CarPlay adapters - Works well on my Aftermarket Radio

- AutoSky, a Houston-based company, offers a few different wireless CarPlay and Android Auto adapters. They sent me two to review for you.

Both adapters worked well on my aftermarket Pioneer AVH-2440NEX head unit, even though the devices are primarly targeted to factory radios that have CarPlay. AutoSky can’t guarantee that they’ll work on all aftermarket radios, but they certainly work well on mine! It’ll be great to not have to plug my phone in every time to use CarPlay - and will REALLY help when I travel and use rental cars.

Works perfectly on my Alpine ILX-W650 in my 05 Wrangler. One of my main concerns with wireless is with the audio quality of Bluetooth compared to hardwire. When I connect to the stereo via bluetooth the audio quality is not as good compared to the usb connection. My ears can detect the difference. This adapter, however, uses the 2.5ghz wifi for all of the android auto functionalities as well as audio output. The audio quality this device outputs is almost exactly the same as if it was connected via usb. I'm sure there is a minute difference but nothing your ears can pick up on.

Bro I really needed to see how you got Netflix to work
The key is that you have to enable your phone as a hotspot and then connect the AutoSky to your phone's hotspot. From there, the AutoSky can then reach the internet and you can run Netflix, TH-cam, and also access the Google Play Store that's on the Autosky and update the apps already installed (and maybe download new apps? I never tried). I no longer have this at home, I gave it to a buddy that loves it but I'm not able to make a video for you.

Can the box be plugged directly into the back of the aftermarket radio? I know some aftermarket radios hace dedicated usbs for carplay and Android auto. I'm curious on which usb would the box need to be plugged into
Yes, the box (either item, actually) can be plugged into the back of the head unit - as long as the head unit has a female USB port. The aftermarket unit I have in this video is like that so I could plug these into the back of that radio if I wanted to (I've got a USB cable extended up into the center console, though). My son's head unit has a USB cable hard-connected to the radio so we'd have to plug it into the end of that cable (still tucked behind the dash if we wanted to).
Some units have two USB ports - one in the back (typically the "CarPlay" USB) and one on the front, for other devices or charging. Just make sure you plug the dongle/box into the radio's "CarPlay" USB and you should have no problems.

Does it work with aftermarket sanptent radio,right now i’m using wired carplay in it!
For the slim, I've seen some people say that there's issues when running more than one app at a time. For example, the music might shut off if you switch to your map. Have you had any issues with that?
I’ve been using this daily since I made the video and this has never happened. Amazon Music’s CarPlay version of the app was having problems for a while but it was an app problem. I switch between apps regularly with no problems.

The head unit needs to have CarPlay or Android Auto in order for it to work.

What about other apps like prime video and mirror linking
That’s a really good question that I don’t have the answer to. I gave the AI Box to a friend since I had two adapters and only needed one.
I would suggest reaching out to the company through Amazon and asking. They were really responsive to my questions before I made the video. My guess is that you might not be able to install/download apps like that since I don’t remember there being a Play Store app. But I could be fully wrong.

It's not a great answer, but I'd try reaching out to the company. They were very responsive to my questions. They don't promise it'll work with aftermarket head units but if you're connecting to a factory head unit, they should be able to guide you (I would hope).
