  • What comes to mind when you hear Guatemala City or Guatemala in general? Is it danger? That it is an unsafe travel destination? Well unfortunately for many who haven’t visited this beautiful country those are the words they use to describe it, especially when it comes to Guatemala City. Guatemala City is not only the capital of Guatemala but it is the largest city in Central America. Most tourists choose to skip it all together based on it’s bad reputation but over our years of traveling we have come to know to not believe everything you hear or read on the internet so we have made it a point to seek the truth. Is Guatemala City a good place to visit? Are there fun things to do in Guatemala City or is it a place you should stay away from? Well we hope that this video gives you a bit of an inside scoop as to what Guatemala City is like so the next time you fly into Guatemala you can give it a chance or not! #guatemalacity #guatemala

Heidi and Adam, wonderful tour of Guatemala City. Yes, indeed, it appears so clean in that zone, indicating that the people respect their city. .... I had to laugh a little at the sound of ice cream vendors playing that 1834 American Minstrel classic "Turkey in the Straw." Adam, never apologize for showing human emotions, we need more people like you and fewer heartless souls to make this planet liveable and survivable. I commend you and Heidi for always looking for the good in each destination to which you travel... Kudos.

Heidi &Adam you have done a tremendous job! I have always wanted to explore Guatemala 🇬🇹 on my side I’ve only heard good things about Guatemala from French friends(where I’m from) as well as English friends (where we live) yet I will admit I ve had my things stolen on numerous occasions in London, Paris and Italy (1 of our fav European holiday destination) yet I have been 5 times to Mexico and nothing ever went missing. I’m so glad your are opening people mind or views of reality good and not so good people everywhere and it’s very easy to point the finger! I am so grateful to have this discovery of Guatemala I’ve have started to learn a bit more as I unfortunately know very little about their history and culture. I’m so glad to be a little wiser today and cannot wait to find out more via your vlog in first instance but will definitely next time with visit our beloved Mexico take the opportunity to hop on a flight and check Guatemala give it a chance!
I’m with you Adam it is so heartbreaking how the mayans have been treated for far too long that’s enough it needs to stop! Beautiful people with such an amazing history and culture. I really appreciated this episode. I spent a couple of months in Guatemala and was very quick to leave that city fast given all the stories. However, I'd still caution single female travelers. You are correct in that you simply need to remain alert in all large cities. However, I was traveling by bus and got scammed by the driver and associates on where I needed to be. Long story not worth telling, but I definitely felt like I was targeted based on being a young female. This was back in 2002, so I can't speak speak for today. All that said, I love Guatemala and every wonderful person I met while I was in that country. I've always wanted to go back and look forward to your travels. It is to this day my favorite country because of it's natural beauty, incredible indigenous history, and warm-hearted people. Outside of the criminal element, almost everyone would give you the shirt off their back... Even if that was the only thing they owned. The nicest people I've ever met.

Your explanation about it and where to go, and as always, taking the necessary precautions (as you would do in any other big city, like in the U.S), is spot on. I won't lie, Adam speaking about those who lost their lives and why, also made me tear up. Both my wife and I truly appreciate how you both not only appreciate the places you are visiting, but the history and the culture, it's not just about a tourist destination, it's about the people and their culture. What I came away with was that the people who've rebuilt the city have SO MUCH love for it. So many great ideas considered and brought to life! The plaza - the lbrary - the mall! You both aways bring so many elements together in each video to paint a lovely picture of where you visit. There is the food, culture, architecture, history, people and history respectfully threaded together that tells the story of each destintation and we are loving it! Safety first is aways paramount. It is so much easier these days to see what is happening in the world and where possible hot spots can be, where to avoid, that it does make travel so much safer as you can adjust travel itineraries to move around those areas.

Thank you so much for these wonderful videos of Guatemala! My ex-husband and I adopted a baby boy from there. He was born on Dec. 29, 1991. It took us over 10 months to get him! So difficult to wait so long! After arriving, my husband had to leave after 2 weeks, and I had to stay for another 3 weeks for Trevor and I to leave! So very different back then and still dangerous in places.
I lost Trevor 3 1/2 years ago when he drowned in Lake Ontario. So heartbroken! He was 27 years old.
Thank you so much for these videos of Guatemala. I now want to visit his homeland, where we started our journey together over 30 years ago. It's so different now, and I want to return. He was born in Quetzaltenangl (Western Highlands), so I'll definitely go there..

Great to see you on the road.
I didn't know there were so many volcanos in Guatemala.
The food looked good as well.
    That mall looked refreshing!
It must be fun to be back there after your previous backpacking trip!
    All the best!

En efecto hay 37 volcanos de los cuales 4 están activos, en el caso del Volcán de Fuego explota cada 20 minutos y el Volcán Santiaguito se mantiene todo tiempo echando humo. Saludos desde Ciudad de Guatemala.

Adam and Heidi - please go to India. You will probably need 10 years to experience a little of its vast and deep culture like no other on earth. It’s the last surviving classical cultures on earth. The history that goes beyond 10,000 years, architecture, food, clothing , music, people - it’s an understatement to say it’s gripping. It’s an experience like no other on earth I promise. Not to mention natural beauty, spirituality, Ayurveda, yoga.

Thanks guys to come to Guatemala and show part of the city, culture and gastronomy. Guatemala has goods and bads like every country but there is something that definitely make us different. The people. We are very probably too much friendly, but we like when people like you come, respect and learn about our culture. I hope you visit many other places in GT if not you are welcome to return anytime, thank you so much guys, blessings.

Great job guys. Guatemala offers so much for a small country. I am glad you are showing others that it’s not as dangerous as everyone makes it seem. Guatemalans are so nice and smile quite a bit. Hope you noticed that too.

I had a close friend in Guatemala and planned to visit her country with her in about 1988. I was in college and wore combat boots, black tights were in. We met at the airport and she took one look at my outfit and said : “you cannot come looking like that, they will think you are part of a rebel group”… Finally getting to go next month! Great video.
