      @@derekp6636 You still can. The current generation will likely continue for another 5 years. All they are saying is ICE cars will be phased out over time. But then again allot of oems say the same thing. Its all talk at this point. Bottom line EV as it stands is knackered. Too expensive, no infrastructure, high insurance and repair costs just to name a few systemic issues with the technology. IMO, Li-on is a complete failure to power EV. Its expensive, toxic, dirty to mine, and very heavy. Eventually oems will realize its not the way. If what they desire is to lose billions of dollars and to bankrupt themselves then Li-on will get you there in a hurry.

      My Civic hx is a 1998, and at 275k, it needs a new transmission input shaft bearing. It's worth doing. But honestly I'm shocked and disappointed, because I've NEVER worn out a Japanese transmission in 40 years. Even the mighty Toyota is going down the tubes. The new Tundra is a complete pile of junk. Defective motor, bad bearings blowing up the camshaft. And the rest of the truck rattles with poor build quality. Cheap Junk with extreme profit margins. Now owners can't even trade them in as dealers want nothing to do with it. And this is from Toyota no less. GM has their electrical issues galore and never ending lifter issues. Ford with countless recalls and 2.7's and 3.0 motor failures. Kia with burning oil and engine failures. Honda with oil dilution. Its a very big list of crappy ass oems right now. Honestly if I had to buy new it would be a Mazda CX5. Because it still does not have the cylinder deactivation nonsense and bullet proof 2.5 Also the 6 speed non CVT transmission is reliable and proven. Still made in Japan. Maybe the only car I could honestly recommend. Its a carry over from an older design that still sells like hotcakes. Because buyers know its reliable.

The dealer had talked me into it and taught me how to drive it. Got it brand new. Turns out they had issues with their manuals but none with their autos. Should have stuck to them. Fortunately, the dealer took care of it free of charge, towing included. The trans locked up going down the interstate. Could have been a dangerous situation. So, no dinky manuals for me. Fleet vehicles, where someone gets paid to do nothing but change oil. 2) I like to watch for older models, and see how they held up at say 300,000+ miles, then go find a lower mile good condition example. 4) where I live mechanics are still pretty cheap. 5) I only buy Toyotas now, but the older models. Let someone else do the product testing and take the depreciation. Once those newer models prove themselves, then I might be interested in buying one.

    This is probably why the Titan is out for the moment. They want to retire the V8, work on whatever EV or turbo + ev. Then when they have a solution bring back the larger truck.
    What it spells for the consumer is that this new prices will be high. All this R&D costs money and they'll want it back. The new products will be brittle and will take time to QA to reach current product reliability. This is a multi-country, global movement. Canada just dumped billions to attract VW, Honda, etc. to make EV and battery tech.

    As for the “Don’t buy over 100k-mile vehicle”. Just think about it. Unless it’s a lease return, or from someone replacing their vehicle every 3-5 years, when do you trade/sell your car? Do you sell it when everything is great with it? No issues? No problems? Or do you sell it when problems start popping up and you don’t want to deal with them and don’t want to dump the next batch of money into them?
    If you get rid of cars when they start causing problems then why’d you assume other people would behave differently? Consequently, when you are looking at a used vehicle, unless it’s a low mileage relatively new less than 5 year old vehicle, you are looking at someone else’s problem bucket.

      I have a 1998 Honda Civic I bought with 98k miles in 2006, and a 1987 Nissan Hardbody I got in 1995 with 204,000 miles. Honda is now at 275k, and Nissan at 428k, with DIY engine refresh at close to 300k. Never in 40 years have bought a vehicle with less than 100,000 miles. For me, this used to be the perfect place where the depreciation brought the price down, yet there was a lot of life left in the car. Of course, manual transmissions were common then, and didn't cost $5000 to rebuild if they broke at all. My Civic HX does need a new input bearing, but the Nissan transmission shifts like new. This apparently was a golden age when Japan competed for longevity and value, not gizmos and max horsepower. I cant see ANY of these turbo, 10-speed computerized slushboxes going this kind of distance, and when they blow, at some point they will total the car as it depreciates.
      I have had very few major issues in 30 years of driving these old used cars. In fact I paid $2500 for the Nissan, snd not counting normal maintenance and wear items, I don't think I've put another $2500 into repairs, including the parts to rebuild the engine (my cheap labor excluded of course). It's sitting outside with another capacity load of mulch in the bed.
      To me, this is the insane value you USED to get out of a used car if you didn't need the newest and best. So many went to the junk yard that should have been repaired.
      I mean, how many people buy a used truck with over 200,000 miles, and are still working it 30 YEARS later?
      This is how normal quality used to be.

      @is6566 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes but the keyword is as you yourself highlighted, “USED to be”. These newer models and newer mean pretty much anything from the last ten years at least, is so computerized that you need a specialized software to pretty much diagnose what’s wrong, when something goes wrong.

    The never buy a vehicle over 100k miles because of "potential" high repair costs is ridiculous. Uhmm, new vehicles are astronomically expensive now, so spending 3-4k on a new tranny is more financially sound than going out and buying an 80k replacement pickup. Especially, since car companies can't seem to deliver quality product these days. Whoever wrote that is a shill for the auto industry.

      Nah. In my case, I just look it from the perspective of off-road robustness. Nothing beets a Wrangler or a Gladiator for off road build and longevity if put through the same hard offroad course and driving. Another channel, Dirt Lifestyle did a comparison of the Tacoma vs Gladiator. No judgment, just statistics. Axle tube diameter, tube steel thickness, axle shaft diameter, gear ring size, etc. everyone could decide at the end which one is more likely to survive a beating in the bush.
