Hi Steve, interesting exercise. First thought: the Turbo is AWD so putting 580ps to just the rear wheels may not give the same performance. Next: ceramic brakes aren’t necessarily a brake upgrade, aftermarket pads on the standard brakes may be a better choice. I believe your estimate for switching to ceramics is too low. I know owners who were quoted $20,000 (U.S.) to replace worn out ceramic discs and pads, they opted to go to steel brakes for $8,000. Skip the wheel upgrade and just get Cup 2’s for summer use. Hang in there until you turn this car in and replace it with an S or a Turbo.

Hey Kevin! That's a fair point. I doubt from a road performance perspective doing a remap would give the same result as the layout of a Turbo. It was really just a look at performance numbers. On the ceramic front I was just taking that value as an over cost with the idea of maybe it would cover the cost of steel disc changes front and back with the bigger calipers on the front. Same as the S model to improve the braking, knowing Porsche dealer prices like you just said is £6k or $8k. But I just couldn't find anyone offering a price online so I just looked at the ceramic cost to add on a car. When you look at the cost for aftermarket fitment of a sports exhaust at the dealer it was build cost plus about £500 labour so that was my reasoning for the cost guess. Doubt I would ever put ceramics on a daily road car!
So yes it was a thought if I was keeping the car. I am at a year now so will do some year update videos. I was still likely thinking 2 years then change so I will have to start looking around at options!

💯 you don’t need to upgrade the entire brake system on even a base Carrera by adding a few hundred horsepower to the motor, Porsche over engineers all these parts, with a simple brake pad upgrade which is inexpensive, you’re more than adequate to handle even 700 hp. Money better spent might go towards more efficient intercoolers, a catless exhaust system for better flow.

Nice Vid Steve. Adding that much hp to a base Carrera does require other upgrades as you pointed out. I would have to remove my ECU and send it to a tuner to get it flashed. Techart has a power kit that is wired into the existing system, but they won’t ship it to the US. Cheers 😎

Hey Gilbert! Hope you're well! Ah right I'm aware of the Techart, I checked out the site but obviously like you say it's not a simple process. No worries, just trying to share the info I've researched for myself as always!

As I've just subscribed to your channel I've only just seen this video pop up in my feed.. I know I'm late to the party, but all I'd say are these two words.. Can and worms.. personally I wouldn't do it for peace of mind. More can go wrong if the power is taken up too high.. Just my opinion of course, although it must be said that Litchfield are a company with an extremely good reputation despite the disclaimers you highlighted in the small print. I think they are now approved to carry out performance enhancements by some car manufacturers now. Toyota, Nissan, maybe BMW and possibly Porsche to an extent, to carry out work without loss of warranty. Check out the "Seen Through Glass" channel where Sam took his Carrera T to get modified a year or so ago (since sold it).. The power it was producing was nuts and it started out with 365hp and ended up with around 520hp.

Hey Cowan. It's something I looked into and thought I would share. I thought it was interesting as I had seen this kind of thing on BMW's and saw the massive jump in HP. As you say though I have also seen how massively strained some of these fragile engine set ups collapse under.
I wouldn't do it while it was under finance & manufacturers warranty just because my luck is terrible and something would likely happen. But if I wanted a small bump in power on the 3.0 engine that's being shared between the C2 & S I might consider it in the future with a remap.
Having said all that, as we both already agree how much power you really need against what you really want lol. Could I use over 500hp in commuter traffic every day? If it turned into my second fun car I might look into it again. By then I might be able to buy a 992 turbo second hand or something though.

@@Get10Yards Good luck with the future goal! The ideal scenario! I had a mk1 Elise as a daily and only car for 7 years.. wish I'd never sold it now all those years ago.. Great to get to a point when you can have the choice. As you mentioned the Turbo.. aside from the GTS order which I placed just after it was announced I've also had a non S Turbo on order since January.. Got a GTS build slot for November three weeks ago but no news yet on the Turbo after 7 months. To be honest though, if I don't get any news soon I'll cancel the order on it.. I think the GTS will be the more engaging car to drive as it's also a manual and with near as dammit 500 hp enough of a handful and RWD..

@@cowanscott9047 Ah wow you have a non S on order? See I would be happy with just the non S but all you see everywhere on youtube and instagram is the Turbo S. What made you want to go for the non S out of interest?
I guess there must be a shortage on parts or just lack of people on that production line maybe slowing it up. Or do you think they are trying to keep production numbers low on that car?
I do think you'll enjoy that GTS. Everyone else who has one or had one that comments really say good things about it. Is that why you ordered a GTS due to the Turbo not getting allocated? Or do you want both?

@@Get10Yards Ironically.. and you'll laugh.. the Turbo doesn't have CCB and centre lock wheels. What does my GTS spec include.. centre lock wheels because I opted for the gloss black aerokit which means there is no choice, and it's on a Shark blue exterior. I have CCB on my 718 Spyder but it's a GT division car whereas the GTS is not, and I plan to use the GTS less.. "enthusiastically" shall we say as I'll have my kids in it a lot, plus squeeky brakes in regular traffic is annoying.. I just felt I couldn't justify the extra price of the S. The performance figures beat the 991.2 Turbo S and are only 0.1 sec behind the new S in a dash to 60.. Splitting hairs.. Also, if I'm honest going for the Turbo would have meant I'd just be able to own both the spyder and Turbo (or GTS) outright. Basically we were waiting to see what would become available first, but if the Turbo is to follow on within a few months after the GTS build date, I'd cancel the GTS instead and take the Turbo.. Also, I've had a lot of finance in the past and I just prefer to own them outright now. I'm mid to late forties.. in the harvesting years. My daily is a modified black 63 plate Defender 110 with a NA 4.8 V8 and 6 speed tip tronic auto gearbox (280hp). My wife has a mint 350CLK convertible (bought it off my mother). Just looking to complete the (to me) perfect 4 car garage..

At this price range, I wouldn’t fuck with a new 911..Maybe an older/used model

Yeh i don’t have the money to chuck away on it with a new one if it goes wrong. Maybe once the pandamic used bubble passes and its an older car at a better price.

I didn’t hear the difference between the two engines ( cylinder size etc.) APR has warranty on their tunes. However, in the U.S. you have to take it to get tuned. When looking for one for an Audi RS3 , I would of had to take it to the VW dealer.. Which has me wondering if it will void factory warranty since it has to go to VW to install it, or if it’s allowed.. Either way, their site does say warranty is covered . Just don’t know if it’s from them or the factory.

    • @Get10Yards
      @Get10Yards  ปีที่แล้ว

No idea to be honest. My understanding is that any changes from factory preset voids the warranty on a new vehicle. So that would include the modification of the ECU. But I could be wrong. I wouldn’t have thought a third party would give you their own warranty over parts just anything they have performed. If it was done by a dealer of any type I am not sure if that changes anything.

@@Get10Yards Found out that APR does warranty for the STAGE PLUS tune. But yes, it does void warranty from factory.
