    Great videos and content, keep them coming. Honestly, I’m surprised they warrantied the turbo based on your mods and tune. When I had a Mustang GT, i put a Roush tune on it through a Ford Dealer, just to avoid having warranty issues on a new Coyote engine if anything went wrong. I love your Carrera T, and part of me has wanted one for some time, but the turbos and their potential reliability gives me pause. I’ll stick with my 997.2 C2S for now, to give these 992’s some more time to prove their reliability. Really appreciate you sharing your mods and journey on this beautiful car, all of us Porsche fanatics learn from what you’ve done and wait to see what’s next! Cheers 🍻

    So frustrating to see these things from a Porsche Zentrum, oh dear, should never happen and I've been there, these things are getting me nuts! One day, they even forgot to put back the frunk trim (considering the size of the thing, omg). Another time it was the rear brake cooling air duct missing on one side, and so on lol. The last part of the video when you're driving, it's literally me in my 991.2 4S (also manual gearbox)! I can listen to this all day long, and I am full stock. • @SystematicInternaliser
    @SystematicInternaliser 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hi, I had the same replacement done on my T in germany. Reason being that the wastegate link was stuck due to rust from overwintering in the garage. No approved guarantee, the dealer wanted to charge 5k€ for replacement although the turbo was ok otherwise and they would keep the old turbo (!). I declined and then bought a used one with low mileage and had it checked by a turbo specialist, used it for replacement and refurbished the old one with new original parts by the specialist. Cost me around 1.7k€ in total and I have a refurbished turbo in oem new condition on the shelve that could be sold anytime for around 1k€. You can get the same turbo from oem manufacturer (BorgWarner) brand new through turbo dealers for a 1/3rd of the price btw, and you can keep the old turbo for refurbishment.
    That, of course, does not apply if the repair is on the dealer/Porsche.
    Regarding the performance upgrade with GTS turbos, I mounted Michelin Cup 2 and changed camber and toe to manthey racing spec. Has a larger effect on performance then added hp, at least on the nordschleife.

    What if the tune was in fact the problem, to much increase of power weakling and blowing the one side of the turbo. I remember on my M3 site, turbos being blown all the time with increase in power delivery tunes. They would remove the tune go back to the dealership and be on the hook In warranty. Best advise, if you want to play, fine but be ready to pay and not recommend during the warranty.

    Tipping in the USA is of a different level than where I live in Europe. Especially in restaurants, where staff earns low wages. Tips are a part of their salary, directly paid by the clients…. Tipping a service-manager of a high-end brand like Porsche would be considered outrageous and a kind of bribery in my country. To each their own, as one says. Glad your car was fixed without any cost for you.

    • @kpiskin
      @kpiskin 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Tipping has gotten out of hand in the US. Things that never even remotely got tipped for, people are tipping. However, I find his comments on the tune being reputable so the dealer didn’t blame it for the turbo failure somewhat fishy. In reading lots of other relevant dealership experiences, the decision to replace an engine part is not up to the service advisor or even the dealership in most cases, it’s up to corporate. Typically if they even suspect a tune, they will deny a claim. Not sure if this passes the sniff test or if somehow Mr tlg flew under the radar. I suspect there is some incentive on his behalf that he not blame a tune for the failure. Obviously I can’t provide that, but there’s a lot of information indicating a typical customer would have had to pay the $9k turbo replacement. Corporate will also flag the car as being tuned in case other claims come up.

      @mak23997 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This 100%. I think he just got lucky. A tune especially because it changes so many parameters on a car and is KNOWN to wear out parts faster. Has nothing to do with his Xmas card and $50 starbucks gift card or whatever he gave the SA. It's completely up to the dealership. Based on the shoddy work by the tech, he didn't seem too knowleadable so perhaps he didn't realize there was a tune. Lucky for him but I'd advise anyone to think very carefully about modifying a warrantied car. In my case I checked with my SA before upgrading my exhaust on my 997 turbo years ago to make sure it wouldn't void my warranty I had at the time. He hadn't seen claims denied for that but HAD for tunes. That's all I needed to hear. @@kpiskin

    As for the missing fasteners (and who knows what else), there is a reason why I do all my own maintenance and repairs right up to the aircraft level that I then flew. At 3:15, no matter how much you tighten that fastener, it does not take care of an oil leak as there are two O-rings on that fitting that create the seal. And shipping at $475, really? Its not like the dealer ordered the parts from Germany, Porsche NA did and it is their business to have parts in stock. And $1366.20 in labor is at least 5 hours and you can do a lot in 5 hours. I am not there to see it but from the video, why would they need to remove the bumper to replace a turbo that is out in the open? As for the $8830.25, and that is only for one side, there is a reason why I like my 991.1 GTS over a 991.2 GTS plus Normally Aspirated cars sound so much better and without the extra headaches.

I had my M2 at the dealer for warranty work and I saw some ridiculous work, zip tieing stuff in the wrong place, missing parts and also never even solved the problem. The best is to find an indie (which is what everyone preaches) but a lot of indies are not great either, some are too busy, some don't care.
