Do you typically have different colored phase, or hot wires for each circuit? Normally here in the US, we only have one and that is black. Our common, neutral or return, is white. And our ground, or earth, is green. Now if we have 440 volt, 3 phase, we will have 3 colors, black, blue, and red mainly, but that is mostly used in industrial applications. For us to get 220 volts, we have to use 2 phases. One color is black and the other sometimes white if you're using a 3 prong plug. A 4 prong plug the white will be common, and another color (blue or red) will be used for the second power leg.

I'm just curious where all cables return in DB-1 🤔 Maybe I misinterpret this diagram. In Poland, everything is the same, just there is no return of wires to the switchgear. I think that if I return the phase conductors to the switchgear, the voltage will be doubled. I would like to understand it :)

Kudlaty This ring style system is mostly used in outlets in the United Kingdom. Because the supply main is the same for both sides of the circuit, you won't have more voltage. You just have 2 entrances, if you will, to the outlets. The only way to double the voltage were if you were to have 2 phases, then have each phase hooked up to opposite pins in an outlet. Because the 2 phases are 180 degrees apart, you will get double the voltage when measured across both power legs.
