Star-Delta connection is a type of starting method of #3 phase AC Induction Motor. Normally Starter is used for smooth starting of a motor. Star-Delta starter starts motor by reducing the initial current. Initially the motor is connected to star connection.
Why do we use Star and Delta Connection?
In a (squirrel) cage #induction motor, the starter is used only to decrease the input #voltage to the motor so as to decrease the starting #current. It is T.P.D.T switch used to first start the motor with the winding connected in star and then switch for delta connection in running position
