My Pops passed away 10 years now, this video helped me when i would have asked him, Thank you so much for the easy to follow instructions, my 2002 Subaru is now fully illuminated
I tested the light before repositioning the wire keeper and it didn't light. After the keeper was put in place it worked fine. Maybe it completes a circuit or something. So be sure to complete the process before testing. Thanks for the video. It helped a lot.
Thanks very much! It wasn't complicated, but it would have taken much longer to figure out without the help of your video. After watching it, everything worked like a charm. Thanks again.
Nice instructional video. That should help me out tomorrow. I'm assuming that I'll need to take precautions against touching the replacement bulb with my bare fingers.
thank you very much! I almost bought another high beam light. I didnt realize the obvious, which is that the outback has seperate bulbs for high and low!
Headlights typically degrade over time on the outside of the lens which makes them cloudy. We carry new headlights on our website 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Your video is a little misleading. Most people just want to replace a burnt out headlight bulb. To do so, one doesn't need to remove the whole housing. Simply unscrew by hand (without removing the complete housing), the white plastic headlight bulb housing, then follow your directions. Takes about 2 minutes.
2000 legacy old housing 2 bulbs can you replace housing with a single bulb style housing? Some aftermarket sites show they fit my car but I haven't seen it done .
Great video, thanks a bunch. My garage is rather dark and it's a little dingy and dirty under the hood. So this really helped a lot. It's -22C outside BTW, so I'm not doing this operation outside. Much appreciated.

Everything is great but a little more detailed view of the bulb removal and assembly would help. Also, you don't carry the bulb at your website. Does that mean it can't be replaced without the headlight assembly? What is the bulb id?
There is no need to remove the entire headlight assembly. I have big hands and was still able to turn and remove the rear housings on both assemblies and replace the bulbs on each one in less than three minutes. By removing the entire assembly, you run the risk of knocking the headlights out of alignment and having to adjust them or have it done by a professional. The way the assembly needed to be wrestled out is all the confirmation anyone needs. There are other videos on this operation that don't involve removing the whole assembly and I doubt many mechanics do that.

I have a single bulb head light assembly for an 01 legacy. If I buy the dual beam lights will they still connect and work the same? Your website only has the dual beams in stock.
Great video. I just replaced my lights. The only challenge is that small metal paperclip thing around the lowbeam. I had to unscrew a screw in there to get the clip back in there.
Pretty good tutorial. I just got new headlights (the entire assembly) for my '04 Outback sedan. I was having trouble pulling the assembly out from the fender part. It felt like I was about to break it. In your video, I saw a clip at the bottom of the new light assembly is that what's giving me a problem during the extraction of the old headlight? Will the new one go in easier without risk of breaking it? Thanks 1A Auto!

How do I remove the headlight rear cover without breaking the white connector clip to replace it? The white connector won't come off. Is there a way to get in behind it to push it out?
You just pop the sucker off with force, really no elegant way to do it. I like to buy a few extra rivets and clips to keep in the garage because sometimes one breaks. The dealership has plenty to spare and it will only cost you a couple dollars.
I can’t tell if there was contact but you sir definitely went in raw hopefully didnt contaminate the glass on that bulb all criticism aside thx for sharing those butt crimp spades could cause premature failure aswell I’m fairly certain

Thank you very much, I will try to give you some business and recommend your page to others. This video helped me install my lights today on my 2001 Outback, thanks!
I had never had to remove the entire headlight assembly... I guess it's another way to do replace the bulb..... the drawback is that one needs to remove the dang air duct because it's always the right side that burns out. Had two Subbies and both always burn the the right side.
@@1AAuto There is always more than one way to do everything. However you stated this is the easiest way. That is incorrect. Would be correct on some vehicles. Some would require removing headlamp assy. Not on an 02 outback. Nothing in the way. Id have bulb replaced well before you has your bolts out.

This was helpful...but you should have discussed proper handling of a headlight bulb, should be handled by base only dont touch the glass!
Thanks very much! It wasn't complicated, but it would have taken much longer to figure out without the help of your video. After watching it, everything worked like a charm. Thanks again.
Wow, 11 years later and you helped me.
Just got my 01 recently and this was the Perfect Video !
Thank You 💯
The battery doesn't have to be disconnected if you are working in a dry workplace.

Right, don't touch the headlight bulb with your fingers. It helps to wear rubber gloves when handling them.

this surely isn't the same for the Japanese BH5 LEGACY with the height adjusting HID is it?

Holy shit that's one of the most aggressive light bulb changes I've ever seen.
Can the headlight be replaced with an led?

Thanks for the helpful demonstration! It helped me feel confident enough to change the globes myself :-)
This helped tremendously. Thank you.
This does not apply to a 2000 model Outback. You do not have to remove the whole assembly for a model year 2000
great instructions. thanks for posting
I appreciate you telling us what to do, but couldn't see anything up close in your video. Couldn't see what to do.

WRONG. The easiest way is to just reach behind, take bulb out . put new in. Especially driver's side .

I did not find this video very helpful because you do not do closeup shots that actually clearly show “little tabs right there”.

Good
Who designs this kind of crap on cars? Headlight replacement was much easier on older cars. This is ridiculously complicated.
This is complicated?
This is not an easy fix, but it is poor design.
Thanks. Great video
