  • In our unprecedented world, we often do not stop and think of the impacts of the ever changing societies and cultures surrounding us. This speech by Able Wanamakok, who was born in Hong Kong and who grew up in the US, is about her story of discovery and showing people how to truly understand ourselves beneath the surface. Born in Hong Kong and grew up in the U.S., Able is influenced by the two most industrious societies in today’s world. From the age of 10, her immigration to the States with her family affected how she saw herself, how she lived, how she behaved and the decisions she made in life. Through the conditionings of our environment, society and cultures, we develop into who are we as adults. But can we truly find ourself in the outside world or do we have to look within to truly understand who we are and our purpose? Join Able in her journey to finding your authentic self. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

A beautiful, wholehearted personal story of rising above to understand that our expectant 'roles' and stories we tell ourselves does not have power if we do not allow it.

Able: your name even says that you "can". I have recently been on a spiritual journey. I am finally learning to feel that I am enough. I am 54. I am glad that you had realized this in yourself at the age you are. You are sharing the most important message to the world. To love yourself and accept yourself is the way that we can then love and accept each others. Peace

Beautiful talk and very relatable for me, as I grew up in a primarily caucasian neighborhood as a Vietnamese refugee. I spent many years of my childhood wishing I had blond hair and blue eyes. That insidious feeling of 'not enough' is a hard one to let go of, for all of us. Thank you for sharing your story!

Yes it’s been conditioned into us when we were too young to understand and decide. Now as adults we must learn what to accept and who we truly are. Thanks for your comment 🙏🏻

@@emceeable Authentic? You would have great diffilculty with such a concept. You are a very clever, capable and attractive woman (above average) who knows very well how to play the game. Bravo for that. The Baloney and or delusions are just that. All an act and as Wille Shakes said, all the world is a stage. You are a decent performer.
