  • Dr. Maria Sirois is an inspirational speaker, consultant, and licensed clinical psychologist who has worked in the fields of wellness and positive psychology for twenty years. As a lecturer and motivational speaker, Maria has been invited to keynote at conferences for wellness organizations, businesses, hospitals, hospices, religious and philanthropic institutions around the country. A master storyteller, her lectures and workshops combine powerful and moving anecdotes with research to bring an audience to the place we all most want to be: moved to tears, joy and positive action within the lives we are already living. Addressing topics as diverse as "Sustaining Resilience in the Presence of Suffering," "Every Day Counts: Flourishing No Matter What," and "The Heart in Philanthropy," she has been called both a "true teacher," and "an orator of great power and beauty."
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

This is a conversation I've been a part of thousands of time. I began to go grey in college, and for me, it was a simple choice. And I love my friends who delight in coloring their hair. Authenticity is unique, particular and quirky. For me grey works. I hope you find what works for you! Maria@@cliffbishop45

Interesting talk! I think society definitely pulls us down, we're all told to be ourselves, but just like everyone else. It is difficult to listen to our inner voice and be guided by it. It is much easier to get caught up in the noise and chatter of those around us, rather than listen to the whispers of our heart. ❤️ I've been on a journey in the past year especially and deeply believe something unique about myself and I'm struggling to embrace it.

Beautiful talk. I’ve started the journey of finding my own authenticity four years ago. Every therapy session felt like a knife being pushed harder and harder into my chest, just to find out later, that it wasn’t hurting me but opening my biggest wound, so that I could see my own fears and take them out of my chest. I’m still finding myself trying to be someone else sometimes, but every day I feel more and more authentic. What she says it’s true! Authenticity is contagious! The more I am me, the more I’m surrounded by authentic people.

I feel your pain Jean - in the end it all comes down to self acceptance and the belief that we are 'good enough'. I know I just never felt good enough and it stemmed from those 2 early disappointing relationships in my life as a small child. I had read those books too...for 25 years (!) We are no longer that small child and it may take professional help for you to realise that. The patterns of childhood do not serve us in adulthood and for one such as I, who just felt not quite up to scratch, I have worked so hard these last 4 years with the help of an amazing therapist, to make the changes necessary and as a horse bahaviour specialist I am to give my own Ted Talk on the 23rd June this year! Yay!...So check it out on Tedx Folkestone in June..... My authentic self revealed at last!! You can do it Jean:-)

Love this and I will be listening often. Thank you! One thing I would offer is that not everyone will feel the urge to be authentic in our presence, or their authenticity is not of a good heart., but there are those that you can help with your authenticity. just be aware and save your energy for those that truly need it rather than those that would deplete it.

My parents divorced when I was 6 so that kinda wrecked everything. My stepdad is a narcissistic and proceeded to psychologically abuse me and my mother for 10 years. It was doubly confusing because he provided all our needs and most if our wants... except appreciation, affection, understanding, kindness. So at 55 after 2 mentally ill husbands, the 2nd a 25 year marriage to a covert cerebral narcissist, just like my stepdad I am done with making the choices I made before. I exploded my way of thinking to see the truth of life better. I choose the wonder of life

After 6 decades of trying to be like others so I might fit in, feel safe, and not get hurt, I’m ready to live from the inner voice and be authentically me. Ugh to ahhh
I loved your talk, Maria and I’m sending you inner peace, love and light and I’m sending this talk to my spiritual teacher who set out one Easter Sunday to be the “priester bunny” she stood and spoke from the pulpit of the spiritual community that she founded, and spoke to us with bunny ears. Irresistible and irreverent 🥰❤️

I love your talk. Oh ... My mother was Honey the Birthday Bunny - when I was young . I suppose this is what I have been doing these last almost 17 years. I left the secure life of a 'law wife' . I allowed my husband to step up and be a full father to our teen sons. Moved back to my childhood state.
Yes ... Painful .still at times ....but my creativity is over the top. And ... I live in the beautiful unknowing. I was on my way to meditate and I wanted to hear an inspirational all first!! Thanks!!

She is amazing with a powerful message, if you need to seek approval from other who are artificial is that worthwhile or should we focus our lives on fake people or should be dispense with that rubbish and independently pursue a true version of our selves and make this little time we have do enjoy life (without trying to fit in) Why not enjoy the gift,, be yourself and enjoy it. Anyone who say otherwise have no business dictating who you should be. Most people are bound by what their peers or Madison avenue dictates. This people are not genuine. Incorporate people in your life who are true to themselves and not "keeping up with the Jones" be genuine at all costs!
