We're back with another informative fishing video related to everyone's favourite little piece of paradise, Algonquin Park!
With opening weekend of fishing quickly approaching, we thought we would try to help you all by answering some commonly asked questions about fishing for trout in the Park. In this video we run through several of our best tips we can offer you guys for locating your own little hidden gem of a trout lake in the interior of the park!
From mapping, to tackle, to general fishing tips once you've located your spot, we tried to cover all the ins and outs to help bridge the gap between a skunker weekend, and you getting your hands covered in slime from some Native Ontario Brookies!

Good job and coverage on this presentation. 40 years of fishing in APP for brook trout has taught me to tie on a size #2 EGB (colour patter #330) and leave it on. I use them exclusively. In fact, I just returned from two weeks in there and left the EGB on the entire time and caught 4-6lb brook trout consistently in a few lakes, and many many 1-5 to 2lb'rs in almost every other water body I targeted for brook trout. My tackle box is no larger than a pack of cigarettes. It does however include 2 dual willow-leaf spinners, similar to your dad's favourite set-up, to use with organic bait just in case the trout are fussy. Subscribed.

Thanks so much for watching Gord! I'm very confident that ice out will be coming in April this year! With all the warm weather and rain the ice is pretty much rotten through now. A couple days of big wind and it should start to pile up!

Great video. We are heading to Big Trout Lake next week and have a day planned for fishing. We've never had much luck but were going to keep trying. Were bringing worms and more weights for deep trolling. I am going to try that bobber and sinker rig from our campsites. Hopefully that's productive. Nicest trout I caught was on a Len Thompson Five of Diamonds at sunset.
Awesome buddy best of luck in there! Trout will still be pretty deep with the heat, focus on 25-35fow for trolling and find the deepest shoreline you can to camp at!
@@TheAverageJoesFishingShow I have returned! 4 nice brookies out of a creek outflow and 1 on the lake near the surface at sundown. Rained on our fishing day and we caught nothing then, unfortunately.

@@TheWanderingWayfarer Early August is a tough bite generally, but not impossible! Fish the cooler part of the day, being the mornings and evenings. Those lakes are more known for lakers than Brookies, but Big Porc does have the odd nice speck! If you’re looking to venture into some smaller back lakes in that area you’d be more likely to get into Brookies! For lures, remember that with water temps you need to get to the right depths. Lures are similar to those in the spring, spoons (Williams, Weaver Grabbers, etc.) copper coloured works well, gold and silver too. Try using flashier colours during mid day, and fluorescent colours during mornings and evenings. For Brookies, get down to the 25-30fow range, lakers, try for 40fow.

Such a helpful video thanks dudes! Any advice for fly fishing/creek and river fishing for trout(browns, bows, brookies) this time of year?
Thanks so much for watching Evan, and thanks for the kind words! We don’t do much fly fishing, but might try to get into it more! That being said we both do quite a bit of creek and river fishing for brookies! I’m a hook and a worm kind guy, light 4-6lbs mono or fluoro line, a little 5.5ft ultra light rod, a long shank hook and an angle worm or dewie depending on the size of the trout you’re after!

I’d like to see how you tie the hook midline , I’m newer to the fishing game
That’s a tough answer to explain over a comment! Essentially, just double the line over into a small loop, out the small loop through the eye of he hook, and bring the loop back around the hook. It’ll allow the hook to slide from the bobber to the sinker without creating any actual knots which prevents line breaks!
We will be doing a complete setup for that style of rig for fishing in a couple weeks from the shores of some Brookie lake somewhere 😁 Thanks for watching buddy and stay tuned for more!

Hey Tyler! Thanks for watching buddy! End of May is kinda that in between phase for finding trout that depends on how warm the previous month was! For end of May, you’d be safe to try casting into the shoreline during the mornings and evenings, you’ll still get fish busting bait up in the shallows during the cool times of the day! Mid day, I would troll out in 15-20ft. You don’t have to get very deep, 10ft down should be plenty at that time of year! Troll flashy lures during mid day. Fish shiny lures during bright weather, and bright colours and glow colours during low light hours!

Guys, you know if the ice is out of the lakes yet in the Lanark and Calabogie area?
Wouldn’t be yet, but I’m thinking it’s gonna start piling up this weekend with the heavier winds and after all the rain the next few days! I would say by Monday you’ll be able to fish the bigger lakes, smaller high elevation lakes will be about 1-2 weeks after!

Trout fishing in Algonquin closes on the last day of September, so if it’s October you’ll be too late!

350 lakes with brookies (tops, likely closer to 250) and about 100 lakes with lakers give or take!

I was under the impression that live bait like worms are forbidden in Algonquin Park?
Live bait in the park is regarding live minnows not being allowed, the regs explain more in depth!
We should also clarify that there are also certain lakes where there is no organic bait allowed, which would be what you are referring to. Not many but that can also be found in the regulations book!

Well not much help for me. First my tackle box is the same as your blue one and that is too big. Use the same lure the whole trip unless i lose it on a snag. And that lure goes for bass , lakers and pickerel too. Using this for 35 yrs. My reel is a shimano Mark IQ . Just picked up a second one off ebay. Its vintage now. Rod is a 5 ft zebco telescopic . Most people are using way too much reel and rod . I've got specks up to 6 lbs .Bass too. Maybe I'm missing something but i've had some pretty good days of speck fishing

Jeff’s Maps has kinda had some difficulties like you mentioned! There are some websites that you can still find it on and download the PDF
