  • Join us for a wonderful fall canoe trip in Algonquin Park! We portaged many kilometers into an unmaintained lake in Algonquin and camped under a tarp for 2 nights. On this canoe trip we baked cinnamon buns and lasagna in a dutch oven for the first time! It was also my last chance for backcountry lake trout fishing this year and I managed to catch a couple. To top it off, there was lots of fall colour and changing leaves to enjoy.

      The nights are getting colder and the lakes are cooling down. Perfect for some fall trout fishing. I'm hoping to get out too. Thanks for watching!

    Hey man! love your videos. We're going to Burnt Island Lake in August and wondering if you have any lake trout tips for newbies.

    • @AleconAdventures
      @AleconAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Dev, the lake trout will be very deep in August so your biggest challenge will be getting your lure deep enough and in the strike zone. Burnt Island is a beautiful lake full of decent sized lake trout. I've never been skunked on that lake. Good luck and thanks for following the channel!

      I often like to pack light too and cover as much distance as possible but sometimes it's nice to slow down a bit. I also have a reflector oven which is a little bit lighter than the dutch oven but still allows you to bake food on a camping trip. Just because you're camping doesn't mean you can't eat well. Thanks for watching!

    No wonder you two love canoe tripping, you eat better on the trail than most people do at home! Lisa and I enjoyed watching this video around the kitchen island. Lisa congratulates you on the nice ethical move of crimping your fish hook barbs. Beautiful lake, it is nice there are more remote lakes like that in the Park that don't see a lot of traffic. Keep filming and adventuring!

    • @AleconAdventures
      @AleconAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see you have your own account now Ian, that's cool. I don't keep all the trout I catch so it made sense that I start pinching the barbs for conservation purposes. There are lots of hidden gems in Algonquin and every year I seem to discover a few new ones. I have just learned that many kilometers of portaging and paddling are required to access these lakes. Thanks for watching!

    You are both truly living your best lives. Great content as always Alec. We def have to make that trip our spring trip. The fishing in there is so much better in the spring. It's worth the effort getting in there and that rock wall, well video doesn't do it justice. A bigger wheeled cart is way easier on that grown in trail. Cheers to you both!

    I don't know when you were camping but maybe you were not having much luck fishing is because lake trout spawn in the fall and the season in Zone 15 (algonquin) for lake trout is January 1st to September 30th. They are harder to catch once they start thinking about spawning.

    Hey alec. Love your content and awesome videos for algonquin. Any suggestions for how many colors of lead core to set up on a trolling rod. I wants to set up one rod for trolling for a spring trip, no sure how many colors to throw on it. Thanks for any info you csn share

    • @AleconAdventures
      @AleconAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Tyler! Well you don't need a leadcore rod for spring fishing. The water is still cold and the trout are close to the surface. The leadcore takes alot of the fight out especially with smaller fish so I only use it in the summer when the fish are very deep. In the spring I use my spinning rod and will add split shot if necessary to get my lure down a little deeper. Thanks for watching!

    Nice Video! Don't know what lake you were on, I have fished Shirley Lake, Ryan Lake (Rainbow Trout), Crotch Lake and Grand Lake in Algonquin. My wife has family in the Eganville area. Bet that Dutch adds some weight to your pack! We Dutch Oven cook as well and it is great to show people no matter what kind of camping you do you can cook anything! Check out Dome Life You-Tube Channel. Also great cooking while camping. They are Overlanders (Jeep People).

    • @AleconAdventures
      @AleconAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've paddled through Shirley and Ryan on my way up McKaskill Lake to paddle the Bonnechere River. The Dutch Oven does add some weight, probably best for river trips but it was nice to have on this basecamp style trip. I'll have to check out that youtube channel. Thanks for the recommendation and for watching!
