It's not totally clear in the video how much play is acceptable on the hi/lo selector hub. When I fit the hub to a brand new high-gear, there is about 2-3mm in rotational play, and I can also 'rotate' the hub on the gear in a circular motion about 1mm. Is this okay? I have another hub from another box and the play is the same.

My center diff in locked position seems to skip inside the box and not at the tires. What’s the first thing to check and can I just open up the box on the Defender and see my possible issues?

Hi, thanks for the vids, could you answer this please , could I have a working Cdl simply by swapping the front casing from a Cdl transfer box or will I have to swap the whole transfer box ? Kind regards John

+John Moakes Hi sorry. Bit confused. What is Cdl? Is it Centre Diff Locker? With this do you mean you are wanting to convert the D2 auto diff locker from one that is manual?

I'm in the process of swapping a cdl front housing from a d1 into my 03 d2. the only issue I can see from these great videoso btw, is the diff preload is set by the bearing race in the housing. so just swapping the housing isn't the answer, you will have to check preload and adjust properly. The easier solution would be to swap the entire tcase. But I am swapping just the front housing and will rebuilt it with new bearings and seal as the donor truck I pulled the parts out of was high mileage.

yes that is about the size of it but it is a really easy transmission unit to remove and overhaul.
