The recommended mic (Movo) has 2 short chords. One for your mobile device/laptop and the other for the camera (slightly longer, but short). If you buy the desk mount, the 'mic' arm does not reasonably reach so that you can broadcast or record properly. I thought about changing the camera and laptop arms out, but the chord's still tight. He may have mentioned the need to buy a longer chord and I missed it. But FYI.
Camera will shake when you start positioning any of those tripod items or if you hit the desk. To note I have the same setup only I try to even the weight with multiple arms with each arm clipped to a single furniture unit (desk , desk bookshelf).
Just a heads up guys, the company updated the product after seeing this video and the new version is about ~$20 more expensive but also swaps out the ring light to a more conventional, round diffused light that I found works pretty well.

Caleb, I love your DIY setup videos. They're very well researched, and thoughtfully designed and executed. Too many TH-camrs toss up a bunch of fluff just to have regular content, but I find your videos useful and unique. Thank you for the work you put in.
Luckily I saw this right when it was posted. Amazon was out of stock, but at the time said "restock expected Nov 11th". I bought it figuring there was a 50/50 chance on whether it would ever show up, since it never went back 'in stock'. It sat as purchased but not shipped for over two weeks, so my hopes weren't high, but then suddenly it started moving and I received it yesterday. My advice to anyone looking for this item would be to continue checking Amazon. It is also available through Walmart (currently out of stock also, but you can sign up for restock notifications). I can confirm it is 100% worth the purchase, this thing is incredibly handy. Most likely why it is out of stock everywhere at the moment.

Just wanted to say how much I appreciate your video desktop setup's. I'm in the middle of building one. These videos have been a life saver and allow for soo much creativity. I'm torn between using the deskmount or a rollaway. but this one you did is soo awesome. I'd like to have 3 camera views. One on each side and one straight down.
Looks nice, I am glad someone finally showed off how to use a ring light more as a kicker or fill light, I was so happy when I made the switch to go and get a larger key light and moved my ring light to the back so I could have better control over my shadows and bkg.
ring lights purpose is to put the freaking lens in to the hole :) thats literally its only purpose.. thus it eliminates all shadows. its amazing how no one seems to know this in the youtube world while everyone is purchasing them.
Went "Unavailable" after this video. I got one of these a short bit ago to also do a video on. I have a feeling when it reappears the price will be MUCH higher than $130 now that they know a high profile video is out about it. I am going to hold off on my video until i see if they do the right thing and keep the price what it was or the shady thing and increase the price.

Caleb, you are the man and I'm glad I found your TH-cam channel. I just finished with this setup with the exception of the monitor. I ordered the wrong vesa adapter and the correct one will be here tomorrow. This set is exactly what I was looking for and has made my desk so much better and my vlogging setup rocks now.
@@3ALEGIONS I don't think you understand lenses. 50mm has nothing to do with fast or slow lens, it is the focal length or "zoom". For example you could have 50mm f5.6 on a cheap kit lens which is not fast. You could also have a 50mm f1.4 prime lens that would be considered fast due to the f1.4.
I've used a 50mm on a full frame camera and it was pretty good, but maybe a bit too close. I also have a 28-300 lens that I now use closer to the 28mm end. Your best bet is if you already have a 50mm, just try it and see how it works in your setup.

The min price may be around $130 assuming you already have the other essential equipment like camera, lens, mic, monitor, accessories and bunch of cables. But even in this video the attempt to tweak the picture raised the price bar well above $130. Different light, tripods, RBG light quickly pushes it to $400-$500+. I.e. the Falcon costs $200 on Amazon and floor stand costs $228. The table stand is no longer available. Well, I'm just saying that building an OK studio costs $$ especially when you start from zero.

I've bought most of the parts to build your one desk setup from your other video, and now you give me more options. I like how the camera and light arms on your DIY version move at right angles. Seems like this will work well to place the gear in between and around my two monitors. Can you change the arms on the Viozon to be at right angles, or are they fixed at the angles shown in your video?
I looked up the price of his preferred light £191 Falcon Eye - these 10" ring lights cost £12 - to soften it you just need tape a paper sheet or bounce it off a white wall . Ring lights they way they are used by youtubers don't make sense but they are cheap adjustable light source powered by USB.

Caleb! Glad to see a follow-up to the desk studio! I've been using some of the gear you suggested in the previous video without needing any tools. Pretty great what is possible with a little bit of creativity and some decent hardware!
For those seeing the "Out of stock" messages below: It would seem demand for this product is exceptionally high - with Caleb's help I suspect. I'm aware of at least twice it's gone out of stock, and been that way with a "We don't know when this item will be available again" message. In both cases, it has eventually shown up back in stock. If it's unavailable and you're excited by the product, as I was, I recommend using the "watch" feature at Amazon. They will notify you when they are aware of an inbound shipment. In my case, I was alerted, pre-ordered, got an expected delivery, had that delivery date moved up by a week, and received the product. I'll use mine slightly different than Caleb does, but very close and oh, my, what a treat compared to assembling pieces.
@@DuneTV1ViralMotorsports The stand is solid enough, although, given its multi-function use I wish it was a full 24" rather than the 21¼" it is. The arms are a mixed bag. The three standard arms articulate the sides and forward/back, but not up/down other than moving the arm up/down the pole (which means you need to be sure of what stacking order you want). They do have partially internal cable management.The mic arm is, IMHO, the lowest quality item in the kit. I haven't tried yet, but I don't have confidence it will hold the Procaster I typically use at my desk. It's fine with any shotgun/boom mic though, so I'll likely pick up either another Synco D2 or, to save my pennies, the Video Micro or Movo that Caleb has in the video. No cable management in this arm. The arm for the laptop tray comes with both an adjustable width tray and a VESA mount attachment - you chose between them (the end piece clips on). I had hoped to have my Tascam on the tray, but the adjustment doesn't go narrow enough, so I plan to hang a monitor on it instead. The nutshell is that it's less impressive than I was hoping for, but still good value for the money - particularly for those doing an initial buildout. I would definitely plan on changing out the mic arm if you're set on using one of the large diaphragm mics that are common in podcasting and voiceover work - it should handle anything smaller ok.
@@Italjohn I'll be curious to see what you think of it. The arms on that one don't give me a lot of confidence and aren't being asked to support much weight in the photos/video. That said, for what they are showing it as being used for, it should be just fine. As indicated in my post (and a few others), the one Caleb shows seems to run out fast, go into a "we don't know when this will be available again" status, and then eventually returns. For those that want it, they will definitely want to sign up for the product to be watched - that way you receive a notification when it's coming back in stock and can pre-order it.
I really enjoyed this video, however it's really difficult to put it into practice because the core product (the 6-in-1 holder) is very specific (and currently unavailable). would love to see a similar desktop type setup but built with more common or commoditized products. I think many people would benefit especially in the current days of zoom meetings.
The ring light didn't look all that bad. This included light looks better than I would have thought it would look. I agree your box light as the key did look better. Thanks for this review. its because he does not know what a freaking ring lite is for, its only purpose is to put the freaking lens in the hole! :) you are supposed to shoot through it.. thats why its a ring, that's why it has a hole! otherwise its just a low power light that takes way too much room.
i use the same arms for my laptop and monitor. its only okay because theyre not fully articulating arms, but it was about $80. I should have gotten this instead, would have loved the mic arm.

Are products like this sufficiently stable to hold a lightweight teleprompter (Caddie Buddy)with mirrorless camera (Fuji)? Well within the weight, but wobble-free is another matter. I wouldn’t be mousing on the desk while recording, but would need to use the keyboard to advance slides.

Great video, cool product, always good content. Only, slightly negative comment / suggestion is to dampen mic and vibration. Could her low end vibration each time desk and/or setup was touched or moved. Would like to see a solution on that and hope its not a non solvable issue with the stand.
Great video! I decided to go with the MOVO VXR10 and found out that it has a 1/4" thread instead of a 3/8" thread. You aren't able to use the MOVO out of the box with it. Maybe something to call out in the description?

50mm is a fast lens so it should work well,
50mm would be too zoomed in for your needs. You can get by with a 24mm or 16mm like Caleb was using

Very nice video! Thank you!! I just want to throw my 5 cents here. The min price may be around $130 assuming you already have the other essential equipment like camera, lens, mic, monitor, accessories and bunch of cables. But even in this video the attempt to tweak the picture raised the price bar well above $130. Different light, tripods, RBG light quickly pushes it to $400-$500+. I.e. the Falcon costs $200 on Amazon and floor stand costs $228. The table stand is no longer available. Well, I'm just saying that building an OK studio costs $$ especially when you start from zero.

I saw the notification. Got excited. Clicked on it. Watched 3 minutes of it and suddenly TH-cam told me it was no longer available. I will be building out my own video recording "battle station" soon and I would love to see that full video as a guide. I've bought most of the parts to build your one desk setup from your other video, and now you give me more options. I like how the camera and light arms on your DIY version move at right angles. Seems like this will work well to place the gear in between and around my two monitors. Can you change the arms on the Viozon to be at right angles, or are they fixed at the angles shown in your video?
I looked up the price of his preferred light £191 Falcon Eye - these 10" ring lights cost £12 - to soften it you just need tape a paper sheet or bounce it off a white wall . Ring lights they way they are used by youtubers don't make sense but they are cheap adjustable light source powered by USB.
That's no desktop setup, that's a freaking Battle Droid!

Great vid, I think you misspoke on one part. Large diaphragm mics are in fact intended to pic up audio from farther away, and are less directional.

I dont think he is using the mike that is on the stand for the video. I do however highly recommend the Micro!

Just a little FYI for you. It's not the mic that's crisp, but the mic pre amps and amps that make it sound crisp

I wish there was more covered by how the laptop stand is utilized for filming time and what the desk set up looks like in the whole room itself or if it gets put away every time it's used. More tour stuff.

Caleb! Glad to see a follow-up to the desk studio! I've been using some of the gear you suggested in the previous video without needing any tools. Pretty great what is possible with a little bit of creativity and some decent hardware!
For those seeing the "Out of stock" messages below:
It would seem demand for this product is exceptionally high - with Caleb's help I suspect. I'm aware of at least twice it's gone out of stock, and been that way with a "We don't know when this item will be available again" message. In both cases, it has eventually shown up back in stock. If it's unavailable and you're excited by the product, as I was, I recommend using the "watch" feature at Amazon. They will notify you when they are aware of an inbound shipment. In my case, I was alerted, pre-ordered, got an expected delivery, had that delivery date moved up by a week, and received the product. I'll use mine slightly different than Caleb does, but very close and oh, my, what a treat compared to assembling pieces.
How was the quality of the stand and arms?
@@DuneTV1ViralMotorsports The stand is solid enough, although, given its multi-function use I wish it was a full 24" rather than the 21¼" it is. The arms are a mixed bag. The three standard arms articulate the sides and forward/back, but not up/down other than moving the arm up/down the pole (which means you need to be sure of what stacking order you want). They do have partially internal cable management.The mic arm is, IMHO, the lowest quality item in the kit. I haven't tried yet, but I don't have confidence it will hold the Procaster I typically use at my desk. It's fine with any shotgun/boom mic though, so I'll likely pick up either another Synco D2 or, to save my pennies, the Video Micro or Movo that Caleb has in the video. No cable management in this arm. The arm for the laptop tray comes with both an adjustable width tray and a VESA mount attachment - you chose between them (the end piece clips on). I had hoped to have my Tascam on the tray, but the adjustment doesn't go narrow enough, so I plan to hang a monitor on it instead.
The nutshell is that it's less impressive than I was hoping for, but still good value for the money - particularly for those doing an initial buildout. I would definitely plan on changing out the mic arm if you're set on using one of the large diaphragm mics that are common in podcasting and voiceover work - it should handle anything smaller ok.

@@Italjohn I'll be curious to see what you think of it. The arms on that one don't give me a lot of confidence and aren't being asked to support much weight in the photos/video. That said, for what they are showing it as being used for, it should be just fine.
As indicated in my post (and a few others), the one Caleb shows seems to run out fast, go into a "we don't know when this will be available again" status, and then eventually returns. For those that want it, they will definitely want to sign up for the product to be watched - that way you receive a notification when it's coming back in stock and can pre-order it.
I always like these desk setups. I always pick up a tip or two that I didn't expect! Thanks for the review AND the improvements.

I really enjoyed this video, however it's really difficult to put it into practice because the core product (the 6-in-1 holder) is very specific (and currently unavailable). would love to see a similar desktop type setup but built with more common or commoditized products. I think many people would benefit especially in the current days of zoom meetings.

its because he does not know what a freaking ring lite is for, its only purpose is to put the freaking lens in the hole! :) you are supposed to shoot through it.. thats why its a ring, that's why it has a hole! otherwise its just a low power light that takes way too much room.
Perfect light. I have a couple back-up options, but the one that comes with the kit should be fine for most of us beginners.

i use the same arms for my laptop and monitor. its only okay because theyre not fully articulating arms, but it was about $80. I should have gotten this instead, would have loved the mic arm.

Are products like this sufficiently stable to hold a lightweight teleprompter (Caddie Buddy)with mirrorless camera (Fuji)? Well within the weight, but wobble-free is another matter. I wouldn’t be mousing on the desk while recording, but would need to use the keyboard to advance slides.

Great video, cool product, always good content. Only, slightly negative comment / suggestion is to dampen mic and vibration. Could her low end vibration each time desk and/or setup was touched or moved. Would like to see a solution on that and hope its not a non solvable issue with the stand.

Great video! I decided to go with the MOVO VXR10 and found out that it has a 1/4" thread instead of a 3/8" thread. You aren't able to use the MOVO out of the box with it. Maybe something to call out in the description?
