We grabbed our Cruiser hybrid in June last year. It’s a great car, save for a few minor issues, nothing mechanically just little things that eat into the enjoyment behind the wheel. The 2.5L can be at times quite raspy and the CVT is a little flat, the AWD hybrid however adds a lot of positives to balance out its quirks and even at overtaking speeds it seems to have ample pull. There’s a bit of wind noise around the top of the A pillar after 80kph and the centre armrest/console is as flimsy as a politician’s promise, it creeks like an old boat if you rest your arm on it. Consumption after 9000 km is at 5.8L, not what was stickered but not terrible either. It’s considerably less expensive to service and insurance wasn’t too expensive either. Around town it zips along comfortably, quietly and seems quite sure footed. All in all we’re very happy with this vehicle but it would be a different experience now considering how much they’ve jumped up in price 😮.
We have the 2022 hybrid cruiser. Almost everything performs perfectly. No flat tire sensor. (Wife didn’t notice as the car is very quiet 54db between 60 to 90 km/hr) Bought sensors that can go on the car and trailer. This is why I am selling my Corolla hybrid and bought rav4 edge.

Funny that so may people that have not driven hybrids say that you may not use the ev button. On my Corolla my record is 1028 km for 38 litres But I average 960km for 36 litres. The car gives you a score and it shows you how to improve.

I recommend that any new car it doesn’t matter what manufacturer you should break in. Do not rev over 3000 rpm for the first 500 rpm no sudden breaking no towing for the first 1000km no constant ( vary the rpm)engine rpm. Add an extra oil change at least on the 7000 km. Use Toyota oil and filter as well as plug seal. It’s much cheaper than even the super cheap, Repco and Autobarn aftermarket parts. Also ridiculously easy to do. A screw diver , a 19mm socket or spanner and an oil filter tool., easy as.
As per your sluggish question. No it is not sluggish at all put it on sports mode and you get the engine and electric motor working together. Very quick and handles fantastic. Research Corolla chassis. Sticks to the road like baby 💩 on a blanket. Forgot to say that the car turns the engine off every time the foot gets off the accelerator except when the engine is cold.
Love the channel Paul and team. Suggestion - about adding either verbal or short cut to control of passenger seat in cars and whether they are height adjustable. When car shopping this is a deal breaker for many people. Just would be a little bit of extra appreciated information. Cheers
Yes I will go with the Cruiser.. Toyota have been in the hybrid market for over 2 decades and keep improving. They have more service outlets and spare parts. Every dealership has trained mechanics in servicing and replacing the hybrid tech. I agree there will always better options about other brands - Nissan future??? Dealerships??? My last Nissan had long wait times on certain parts. In the end I ordered direct from Euope and the part was cheaper!! In conclusion it is far more than the driving refinements - Paul suggestion make a video of the pros and cons of buying off our main car manufacturers - who offer the best back up and service???
We ordered a cruiser hybrid awd mid 2021 and got it delivered after an 8 month wait. We also get slightly better fuel efficiency in ours which averages 5.5l/100km, so very happy with that. Unfortunately due to the chip shortage at the time we didn't get the bigger 10 inch display, stuck with the old tech, and a very crappy reverse camera. Overall a great car, and at the time weren't many others getting the same fuel efficiency, but that has changed now.
What’s the point there’s still an 18+month wait, I’ve heard multiple reports of people buying Haval Hybrids because they needed a vehicle with some waiting 2yrs
Nice and informative review..i wonder if total power output remains the same under hard acceleration when battery is low. Seems like a catch in hybrids when quoting power and torque..
Good honest review. Engine and cabin noise is horrible. How do you permanently disable the road speed limit sign notifications / chimes, very distracting….
I have this same vehicle 2023 rav 4 hydrid AWD cruiser. The lane detection and all the safety tech works perfect on my car. My awd is abit quicken than that.handling is not as good as a cx5 and cabin noise is a bit high. I still luv it. Im averaging 5.6ltres and have done around 950km on one tank many times
How much did you end up paying for the awd cruiser? My friend got his for $60k. I got my cx5 gt sp for $54k. 6k savings to buy petrol for at least 5yrs.
The next gen announced next year will improve tech even further. Typical of Toyota, late to the party but then for that short period everything is great U told the comp steam ahead again.
Many car brands have already started giving big discount. Just don’t buy if they don’t give you a big discount simple. The money is yours, and they want your money badly, so you have the bargain power , not them, don’t be fooled by their sales
After hiring one I was also surprised at the unrefined cabin noise, I was really surprised being a Toyota. Is a shame because I love the Rav. Toyota could definitely do better with the in cabin noise.
I have a 2024 AWD Hybrid RAV4 cruiser and around town and on the freeway, I always get 4.5 to 5. You have to be a good driver too. I also think you're a bit of a snob when it comes to cabin noise.
It’s probably a bit dated now but I still want one , I like the one with the black roof ….or the edge. It has the new digital dash I see , that’s good !
Paul, did you check the tyre pressures? Dealer delivered mine with 44psi (cold) in each tyre. Just saying, as a regional driver I do disagree with you on the body control and road noise side of things. Otherwise, yeah, it's a good appliance.
Toyota's system is a pure mechanical system. Very reliable and low cost maintenance. These things will keep buzzing for hunderds and hunderds of miles. Something alot of car reviewers often miss. You should compare the driving cost of a Nissan to this car, Not to mention the sell value. Toyota and Lexus is all about reliability and efficiency.
I own a 2020 RAV4 Cruiser hybrid and it's a unrefined noisy car in ICE mode. Paul, like you said the NVH is poor especially sound through the doors. Look forward to replacing it with the BYD Seal U PHEV when it arrives mid to late next year.
please don't research how good byd are in China and if you don't have the time let me ask you a question when have you last seen a car lose it's entire rear axle with attached wheels on the road ?
I put a cruiser hybrid on order and the waiting time doesn’t bother me, but that my own unique situation as I’m not in a rush for a new car and gives me more time to save money. Waiting times may be fustrating but you need to do your research so you know what your getting into.
I suspect in 20 months or so you’ll be receiving the next generation RAV4 and probably a couple of bumps on the price. Other models and makes will also be going up in price so it’s to be expected.
For the kind of car it is, I think it's quite a good all-rounder. For the price, I'm a bit shocked that it sells so well and is only held back by supply constraints. It really is quite a generic car given its price, and misses out on a lot of the things that competitors like the Sportage gives you at pretty much every price point.
sure competitors might be better but nearly all of them only offer hybrids or Phevs at $50-70k. RAV Hybrids can be had for under $45k I guess the general public are just sick of fluctuating fuel prices more than tech or 7 seats

Seeing all the RAV4 HEV Owner comments below... i am dumbfounded as to why this has a 2 year waiting period. if i remeber correctly you gave thumbs up to the H6 HEV on lane keep - same for suspension.. then there is all the extras which that comes packed with... help us reach a decision. which is better value for money not considering just "resale factor".

I live in a California like country from Europe, you can only buy a single motor for most brands except germans and they are all underpowerted hybrids, you don't see it yet in au and america but I have little doubt it's your future too enjoy diesel and petrol while you can one year we had good engines the next they were gone thanks to our governement giving manufacturers impossible emissions quotas to maintain, most sport versions are gone too
I had a choice between buying a Toyota with a CVT transmission or a dual clutch from a different manufacture,, not a fan of both but went with a different manufacture.
I searched everywhere for a video of the 2023 edge hybrid. There was a comparison but they couldn’t get one so that was a lie. Mine arrives Thursday. What I get is that it’s a cruiser hybrid but better much nicer grill and 19” wheels.
Considering Canada have a 2 to 3 year wait for Prime, even with the new gen announced next year I doubt we'll ever see it. Toyota Australia treat us like crap and we lap it up. No wonder the Chinese are keen to steal that with a simple thing called decent supply and price.
To be honest. Some of second hand car dealers bought the new 2024 RAV4 add 2000-4000 sale that as a used car to the people who want to have them. The car only has 10km and they advertise that 1000km. 😂 I am not sure they legally can do this or not. It is really disgusting to see this things happening around. This is why have a lot of customers have to wait long time.😢
Imagination and a growth mindset isn’t for everyone. Folks will still buy outdated design and technology for brand recognition. Upcoming brands are now offering better value for money
Hi Paul, you do great stuff and love your work. Quick one for you. You did a 2022 Rav4 review on the Edge Hybrid and commented how quiet it was in cabin. So quiet that you could hear your shoe squeaking on the side floor board. Now in this 2024 version you went on saying that you experienced a lot of road noise coming into the cabin - on the freeway over you could hear trucks and had to up the radio. I know it may not be an apples to apples comparison (different roads) but do you think sound insulation has gotten worse from the 2022 model to the current 2024? No cabin noise measurements unfortuantely for the 2022 version but your initial thoughts shared on that version made it out to be quiet Lexus like. Perception thing maybe?

I believe Toyota have stopped taking orders for the Camry due to demand, and 2nd hand are still a bit overpriced.. maybe wait 6 months and see if 2nd hand prices go down. Having just picked up a Corolla Cross SUV GXL AWD hybrid (which I'm loving after 11 month wait) try taking it for a test drive. It's the first Toyota model in Australia with the 5th generation hybrid platform, I've found it to be a big step up from my brother in law's 2019 hybrid Camry, and my father in law's 2018 Lexus hybrid in terms of efficiency. I think the 2024 Camry will have the 5th generation hybrid platform, and I think it's worth it. You can always drop a $1000 refundable deposit on a 2024 Camry to get the ball rolling, and get it back if you decide to go 2nd hand. Hope this helps.

If you want to drive for free in bumper to bumper traffic jams, if you don’t want to speed in school zones if you don’t want to give more revenue to the local authorities and you want to save money and your licence as well as having zero repairs and just pay $182 per or $280 fixed price services for 15,000 for Corolla and rav4 services then this are your cars.
@@7thplanet121 I got that, I know in sports mode it has enough power but in EV mode does it have enough power?
Love the channel Paul and team.
Suggestion - about adding either verbal or short cut to control of passenger seat in cars and whether they are height adjustable. When car shopping this is a deal breaker for many people. Just would be a little bit of extra appreciated information.
Cheers
Also the entry features on drivers side door. No need to take key from pocket at all.
Took 2 months to get my rav4 GXL but totally worth got lucky as I didn't have to wait for a year lol
Excellent job 🙏🏻
Paul. Please do a review on the KIA PICANTO SPORT auto.
I was waiting for you to this review
hehe
Currently in use on car hire it’s very noisy on engine power
It's still look beautiful to me especially in pure white color . And it's a Toyota reliable and dependable brand
Beautiful!!! You need glasses. And do you realise that other Japanese and Korean brands are reliable too?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Am i the only one jumped in to watch the video all excited to see Paul in that Green and Black body fit 😬🙃
I recently purchased my first ever Toyota and I’ll never go back to anything else!
Why?
@@daweigo6851 because I liked it🤦♂️
Lol😂
BYD Sealion 6
Toyota has really taken to heart the economics mantra of charging the highest price the market will bear.
What’s the point there’s still an 18+month wait, I’ve heard multiple reports of people buying Haval Hybrids because they needed a vehicle with some waiting 2yrs
I’d by a Havel just out of spite.. and no bloke should have to say this.
Nice and informative review..i wonder if total power output remains the same under hard acceleration when battery is low. Seems like a catch in hybrids when quoting power and torque..
True. I guess you wouldn't need that "kick off power" too many times while driving. That's the trade off with any hybrid I suppose.
Good honest review. Engine and cabin noise is horrible. How do you permanently disable the road speed limit sign notifications / chimes, very distracting….
You can disable voice/ sign notifications in the voice alert settings. Should be the same as our Prado.
@@kidfreejones extra $10k pls for that cutting edge upgrade
@@TheGillederais I didn't buy the cx5 bcz the boot is way smaller than the rav 4 and much less space in second row. Paid 67k
My RAV4 hybrid never displays a range higher than around 860km when full. Not sure how you reach 950km.
Many car brands have already started giving big discount. Just don’t buy if they don’t give you a big discount simple. The money is yours, and they want your money badly, so you have the bargain power , not them, don’t be fooled by their sales
How can you bargain when the demand is high and supply is less ?
Why is it important that the window go all the way down? Is it something important?
I could never live in a country where i couldn't use my right hand for operating all the controls.
I have also bought rav4 xle non hybrid
Paul, did you check the tyre pressures? Dealer delivered mine with 44psi (cold) in each tyre. Just saying, as a regional driver I do disagree with you on the body control and road noise side of things. Otherwise, yeah, it's a good appliance.
Mine was delivered with 62psi all round 😂😂
You guys should check your spare..... mine was at 78 psi !! For our 23 XSE, Yep , a wee Bit extreme
Is outdated and loud inside, when is the new model coming though...?
I'd like to know that too
Solid review, learned a lot. Cheers!
People don't buy Toyota for the frills. The very opposite. Long term reliability.
@@bree4995 most cars these days have long term reliability. My mazda is 22 years old. I don't understand the hype for the toyota, and this video proves waiting for 2 years is pretty pointless considering other vehicles that are readily available now. Unless you want to pay 60k for a standard, bland, loud, noisy hybrid.
if people want a good, proven hybrid they won't go to mazda@@MrRandomized94
Hype? which brand of car do most taxis and Ubers drive? Not Mazda. How many 1980s Toyota Landcruisers are still driving around. Not fancy but cheap to run and RELIABLE.
Does it have front and back cameras
Can Toyota hybrids tow a trailer?
RAV4 is the highest sold SUV in the North America.
Surprised with all your rave reviews of the Haval H6 HEV, hot even a mention of it among competition.
Does the new RAV 4 have a heads up display ??
Yes, in cruiser model.
We are getting just under 53mpg from our 2020 Rav4
Is that imperial gallons or the US version ?
His old video claimed that it hits 4.7L but now it doesn’t?
I noticed that too haha!
I have the same car and get on average 5.0L/100km
I have the same car and don’t get under 6.0l/100km for the average.
@@reelgreens4127 what are you getting?
I think you should test the autonomous driving mode on real-time real world traffic situations and not on a private test track and then we'll all see how good of a car the systems has on board, but still a good video ❤👍👍🙏
Do a test on all the medium suvs ??
this rav4 or byd sealion 6 ? in terms of ride and quality
Hi Paul,Rav4 diesel still available?
Unfortunately not!
I live in a California like country from Europe, you can only buy a single motor for most brands except germans and they are all underpowerted hybrids, you don't see it yet in au and america but I have little doubt it's your future too enjoy diesel and petrol while you can one year we had good engines the next they were gone thanks to our governement giving manufacturers impossible emissions quotas to maintain, most sport versions are gone too
Nissan e-power is well underrated as a competitor. Drives much nicer
Other people have got this 0-100 down to 7.26 seconds, all depends how you time it too, I guess.
Can you do a review of Toyota Harrier
Rav4 performance data not added to the google sheet?
Can the beeping sound of the trunk be turned off? Need help please
Yes turn it off in settings
excuse me what the suitcase size is?
One thing missing here in Australia js front and back break support while on slow speed
Hey Paul, can you take the outlander PHEV on your offroad course?
Hi Paul
I need some advice from you please.
How much should I pay for the Lexus NX 350F base model.
Thankyou
too much
We need an off-road test on Hybrid's, Plug-In's and BEV's, especially the new Outlander PHEV.
Outlander will probably destroy them. Few videos of it going what I’d say ‘far more than soft road’ and it performed excellently
They did one already for many of this size car I think this or last year.
@@kidfreejones those are only regular ICE except for the Rav4.
Does it have a sunroof ?
Xse, cruiser and edge models. Smaller moonroof than the panoramic x-trail.
What model is this one? XSE or Cruiser? Like the Sunroof.
Xse
I had a choice between buying a Toyota with a CVT transmission or a dual clutch from a different manufacture,, not a fan of both but went with a different manufacture.
I searched everywhere for a video of the 2023 edge hybrid.
There was a comparison but they couldn’t get one so that was a lie.
Mine arrives Thursday.
What I get is that it’s a cruiser hybrid but better much nicer grill and 19” wheels.
But didn’t Toyota exclude power front passenger seat in the Edge which is available in the Cruiser?
paul can we test a camry please
Would be nice, if you could get one. I wish we could get our hands on the prime.😊
Considering Canada have a 2 to 3 year wait for Prime, even with the new gen announced next year I doubt we'll ever see it. Toyota Australia treat us like crap and we lap it up. No wonder the Chinese are keen to steal that with a simple thing called decent supply and price.
It still has the best fuel economy that isnt a PHEV
To be honest. Some of second hand car dealers bought the new 2024 RAV4 add 2000-4000 sale that as a used car to the people who want to have them. The car only has 10km and they advertise that 1000km. 😂 I am not sure they legally can do this or not. It is really disgusting to see this things happening around. This is why have a lot of customers have to wait long time.😢
Title should be "is this still the best vehicle for people with no imagination"
Imagination and a growth mindset isn’t for everyone. Folks will still buy outdated design and technology for brand recognition. Upcoming brands are now offering better value for money
Does anyone know how much differences 2024 vs other models
they just cut the lower spec model for 2024
This is completely impractical test. The moderator didn' t understand the purpose and how the hybriddrive works.
Best car and nice to drive in the highway...
Hi do you know any petrol car with good fuel mileage hybrid cars are slow . Any brand under 50k
I’m using this car in Canada I spent 30 dollar gas for 6 months .. what a car man Toyota
If you’re in the market, the dealership I work is offering complimentary LIFETIME POWERTRAIN WARRANTY in the U.S.
I’m in the Midwest so your dollar goes further. Make a “destination purchase” and have a fun road trip home while you learn your new RAV4!
ok hive mind i really need your help please i have no one in my small circle that knows enough about cars, ive decided not to go the rav4 but to stay with the Toyota brand and get a Camry, do i get a brand new 2023 SX model or do i go back a year or 2 and pick up a top of the range SL , im not i rich man so i need something for 10+........i really don't know the best way forward i would appreciate any help or push in the right direction to help me find some useful info, thanks
@@gefwells Thankyou for your reply mate
