I have the first gen 850 in .22. It came with the silencer/moderator. At room temperature it shoots a 14.3 pellet about 604 fps, which is slightly under 12 foot pounds. Even with the silencer it has a bark. Mine is very accurate, using a cheap 4x32 scope. My preferred distance is up to 30 yards and have no trouble hitting the target. I modified the 88 gram capsule by drilling and adding a 1/8 pipe thread foster fitting so it can be bulk filled. I bought a small CO2 tank from a welding supply store and can get it refilled at the local beer store, which refills CO2 containers.
Bought this very gun a few months ago and I love it. I had to do a couple of mods to get it right for me, number one being that annoying automatic safety. I did find it an issue, so I took it apart, cut away the tang that engages with the bolt and now the safety only operates when I want it to..perfect. I slapped a Hawke scope on it and added a nice rifle sling. Nice rifle, smooth action and accurate. Good honest review Andy.

I have this gun in .22 and love it. I did upgrade the scope to a Hawke 3-9x40 AO which did improve accuracy. Cold can effect CO2 but I found slipping a hand warmer in the cavity where the CO2 canister goes keeps things pretty consistent on a cold day.
I had the previous 850. It got me back into air guns. I very quickly moved onto a pcp , getting the Gamo Phox package which I think is a better starter kit.
What they really needed to do was make the front piece bigger and detach from further back. That way you could have the best of both worlds and attach an adaptor and a small air tank to use it as a PCP and the bottle still sit nicely in the stock without the need to butcher the stock to modify it and then you could switch between air and co2 depending on your need. They missed a trick there and it would have made it a far more versatile gun and made it very unique.
Very informative....I was just gonna buy one of these air guns but now im going to go upmarket and buy a water pistol or a cork gun just something with a little more power !
I watched this video and had to buy one, this is one of the very best co2 rifles you can buy. The only down side is the cost of 88g co2 carts. However if you have the time you can blitz through an 88g in a day and have a big smile on your face by the end of the day. 😊 . Also you can now buy an adaptor that saves the co2 should you not want to shoot a whole cartridge of co2. Put the adaptor on, go shooting and just twist off the co2 with the adaptor on and nothing escapes.
50 years ago our parents would never let us have C02 rifles or pistols. They didn't want to have to run us down to get cartridges. We had to pump. This rifle uses the larger C02. I could see where this would sell in places where it rains or is damp. Keep the nicer rifles in the cabinet, and take the synthetic outdoors. I do that on shotgun. I take my old 870 out with the parkerized metal. No rust issues. 741fps is a fun speed to shoot. The younger guys would like that and the black rifle looks.
Having been looking for a new air rifle to buy, this (Version 1) was the one I was looking for after having read and watched plenty of reviews about "budget" air rifles, mainly for it's accuracy. Finally I bought the RM8 even so it was a bit more expensiv but I preferred a PCP to a Co2. And as in my country the limitation is fixed to 7,5 Joule / less than 6 ftp, refilling the reservoir with a pump is not too much of an effort :-) I've put a Hawk Vantage 4-12 x 40 Ao scope on the RM8 and comparing it to my Norica rifle with a 3-9 x 40 scope mounted, I fully agree with you - it makes a huge difference and I wouldn't want to miss this bit of extra magnification for a second. Great review.
Great review as always, I do like the double 12g adaptor as the 88g cartridge is only good once, worth the cost as the adaptor keeps the co2 when removed...
Truly a sweet review for this nice sunny day! I'd gladly heve one of these. No idea what the price of one would be on my local airgun market though. Loved the kit. Had more than enough of accessories. Did not though notice a hat for the barrel threading, if not were to use the/a suppressor. I am personally a fan of co2 rifles myself - even though mostly being into military styled co2 rifles as the DPMS there in the background of the video. Own one Crosman .177 break barrel rifle with scope, and that is enough for me in that class. But I am usually intrigued by allkinda different co2 rifles. And this one seemed way nice. The co2 even in the front, rather than in the stock. And the suitability to use the double 12g co2 adapter is more than great - since apparently not all 88g co2 rifles can seat them. Own q few co2 rifles, but yet no in the style of this one. Would probably be a sweet backgarden target plinker for me. Been thinking of the Beretta CX4 Storm kit. But that one ain't that cheap either. The CX4 though do compete inca bit different class also with internal blowback system and a 30-shot rotary belt magazine..
I don't think I'd ever buy a co2 rifle I'd rather have an half decent Springer. I currently own an R-10 SE and love it. Infact thinking about it, years ago I bought an 850 took it shooting and it broke in the first 5 minutes tried a different C02 in it and that didn't work either that was a day out ruined, took it back to the shop and bought an HW 80.
These days you can get decently priced PCP rifles anyway, at least if you buy used, cO2 rifles are kinda mostly "toys". There quite a few very nice pistols and revolvers, but I can`t think of many nice cO2 rifles lol..
Does anyone know if you leave the cartridges in the gun? Does the gas slowly leaked out when you’re not using it??? I’m not sure if it does or does not I would like to know
I think all co2 powered rifles suffer with leakage over time if not used. Best advice is either make sure you’ve used all the gas before you put it away. Or as Andy has said, consider the 2 x 12 gram co2 adapter for this particular rifle. That way if you can’t use all the gas before having to put it away for a period of time, at least you’re only losing a couple of the 12 gram capsules and not a massive 88 gram one 👍🏻
I think this is a very fair review Andy. I think sadly umarex have outpriced themselves with this one as there is much better out there for that sort of money. But you have shown it at its best for those looking. That’s what I like the most about you and your work. Cheers.
For the money you could look to pcp rifles from the bsa range. Yes I accept they need charging but it would be cost effective against buying the 90gm. Trust me I know. For a very accurate rifle with change look at the elite se or scorpion. I have had both for years and the ultra goes with me everywhere. Hope you find what you are looking for.
@@hooters28 The only BSA that seems to be available here in Germany, is the Buccaneer, which costs 419 Euros (roughly 350 pounds). The 850 M2 kit costs 370 Euros (roughly 320 pounds).
Great review as always Andy! Would have been good to 'chrono' the gun again after being out on a cold December day, to see if, and by how much, the cold had effected velocity/energy. Future test? Keep them coming.
This is a nice gun. I got it mainly because of the convenience of CO2 and the price. What I would say is I wouldn't bother getting the kit. If you can find it rifle only, it is much cheaper and the included suppressor and scope aren't particularly great. Get the base rifle along with a decent suppressor and your own scope. In my personal experience, JSB pellets tend to work nicely, as do Bisley magnums. It also fires JSB Knockout slugs, which I've actually found to be the most accurate projectile fire so far, however they only work without the suppressor (so far, I've tested 2 - I need to try some more). The 12g co2 adapter is convenient, though be aware the smaller size appears to be more susceptible to cold issues.
Nice review Andy, the action and magazine looks a lot like the rm8 if I'm not mistaken?. For the money I would rather have the rm8,but as you say this rifle is for a certain market, and sorry but it's raining again so can't mow your lawn or trim your bush🤠 but you can put the kettle on,two sweeteners please 😁,see you again next Friday, I wonder what's next?.
If they had made the front piece of the stock a little bigger and detach from further back it would have allowed and adaptor to be fitted and a small 13ci air tank be added and fit inside the stock without the need to modify it. That would have made it PCP and CO2 and it would have been quite unique. People would then have had the option to shoot it as PCP or CO2 and switch between them dependent on their need. It would have made the gun quite unique and added to its appeal. It could have been a gun people shot as Co2 until they could afford to but a tank or when they needed to refill a tank. Versatile providing choices. Maybe they can produce it as a hybrid and call it the RM850.......lol
Ove just got one of these today shooting it in 2 days once the co2 arrives I must say its a impressive looking beast and can't wait to shoot it it is long yes but I like that as for weight dunno I don't think it's that heavy but it's not loaded up yet
Love the look of this rifle, but I have my eyes set on their ruger 10/22 I just wish they bring that out as a .22 11ftlb so it can be used for small game! Then it would be my dream and go to rifle
It looks very Walther RM8 around the safety catch, magazine, bolt and breech area. I think they have been raining the parts bin That is a lot of money for a Co2 rifle and not much less than the RM8 itself. The problem with all the scope included starter kits is that the scope is usually bog basic and will probably get replaced rather quickly. With the extra running costs of the Co2 capsules, I think I would go for a budget PCP instead or even a mid range Weihrauch Springer.
Good morning Andy , enjoyed today's review. It's a nice kit . So if your looking for something simple and ready to go . This might be the one for you . Thank you 😊....... Simon
Very informative. CO2 power is temperature related. I do wonder if I left the 12 g capsules in the airing cupboard would that work. For the 88 g capsule, once fitted I suspect would need to leave the whole gun in the airing cupboard.
rg29nx unfortunately, it isn’t recommanded to store CO2 guns with gas inside, the carbone dioxyde has an acid effect on the seals and destroys them over the time....
Hi enjoyed your video. I have just purchased one and generally very pleased. I am new to shooting and struggling to set up the scope. Any tips would be very grateful
Hi Andy i love your vlog please can you give me advice on what PCP package i should get which is a good all rounder starting kit for target shooting and pest control all the best Swifty
Great review but I have to say for 450 pounds for a CO2 rifle that should cost $299.99 with the extras. At the end of the day it is still a CO2 rifle with a crappy scope, cheap bipod, and maybe a half decent moderator. Again great review as always but Umarex can keep this one. Finally a review on a gun that I don’t want to buy. Thank you. Your reviews can leave a mans bank account in the thin side.😂
Good review Andy on the 850 MK2, but it does come at a rather hefty price, when there are better deals out there and cheaper too for a starter PCP and pump. By the way, any chance of a review on the latest smk victory Pr900w in .177 cal ? I believe the new models have a removable screw on silencer and hopefully old issues have been resolved ! Cheers
Looking at this Rifle so thanks for the detailed review. New to CO2, but have used spring and FAC previously. Question is from the Millennials- are the CO2 canisters recyclable? I presume they are made of a recyclable metal and can be popped in with your other metals?
Think i am going to get this kit i also must be the only person going from a pcp to co2 why ??. I like the ease of co2 no longer like lugging around a pcp bottle and as i don't go shooting too much i think it fits what i'm looking for also my colt takes c02 so two birds and one stone.
It's good for someone who wants to try out shooting but with the likes of artemis and kral etc etc, people can get a NEW pcp set up for that amount now.
Great review as always Andy. Almost bought the old version a while ago, but decided against it. So for those of us on a tight budgets which rifle would you invest in for ease of use and pleasure, this Umarex, or the Gamo GX40? I know the Gamo is cheaper and a pcp, but I do feel the Umarex is a little high in price. Hmmmmmm, decisions, decisions..!
I think with PCP you will soon tire of manually pumping the fun - at which point you have to double your budget. CO2 is easy to get hold of and not that expensive - unless you're firing of a tin of pellets every weekend.
Hi there Andy! First of all nice channel... already helped me choosing and co2 pistol! I like this setup and I would like buying it! I live in Spain and cannot find it locally, can you recommend me an trusted website?! Cheers

Jake Smith and You’ll do fine ! The “old” 850 (actually based on the Dominator, a competition gun !) is as good as the “new” one, believe me ! They only changed a little bit the shape of stock and handguard, added a (cheap) scope and bipod, and sell it now as a revolutionary improvement...

Great review as always. So if I had £400 spare, what rifle would you suggest, it would be used for target practice only. Not bothered if it's co2, pcp, break barrel etc single or multi shot or anything. Any suggestions? (that goes out to everyone)
Check out the SMK Nova Vista Alpha. Around £290-£340 depending on synthetic or wood stock. Andy has done a review on this channel. Only complaint I've heard is the trigger is a bit wobbly, but works fine and it's a full power pcp with side-lever and 10 shot magazine.
@@andrewwallace9290 no worries. Also, forgot to mention that despite being that cheap it's also regulated so frankly an absolute bargain. Will be getting one myself in the next couple of weeks!
Without a doubt a Seneca Aspen. Add a UTG 3-9×40 scope- AO set at 25 y and focus is good from 10 y to 100. Oil it a lot. Work the pump slowly to keep the heat low. For $400, Fantastic gun accurate to 70 y and climbing. Side lever is easy and smooth. Safety is outside of the trigger guard where it should be, yet easy to reach. Trigger is very good, especially at v light pull.
I wonder if anyone has had problems with spare magazines for this rifle, l've had no problem with the magazine it came it, it has a flat band to hold the pellets in so when l saw additional magazines at £20 for 2 l bought them but they had O rings insead of thr flat rubber band they look identical but the bands are diffrent as well as the groove ,now the replacement magazines jam and wont cycle the original one has no issue's and cycles like should is there anyone out there who has had this problem and can help its a bother only having 1 magazine
I doubt either would have the quality of the 850 being that they are both made in China. However I did own a bolt action smk I bought at a boot fair brand new for £60 and tbh it was very accurate

Cheers.
What is then "much better gun for the money"? HW97?
For the money you could look to pcp rifles from the bsa range. Yes I accept they need charging but it would be cost effective against buying the 90gm. Trust me I know. For a very accurate rifle with change look at the elite se or scorpion. I have had both for years and the ultra goes with me everywhere. Hope you find what you are looking for.
@@hooters28 The only BSA that seems to be available here in Germany, is the Buccaneer, which costs 419 Euros (roughly 350 pounds). The 850 M2 kit costs 370 Euros (roughly 320 pounds).
@@MrJohnnyorange AA S200 no competition...
@@Meloncholymadness Not available in Germany I'm afraid.
For the money I would rather have the rm8,but as you say this rifle is for a certain market, and sorry but it's raining again so can't mow your lawn or trim your bush🤠 but you can put the kettle on,two sweeteners please 😁,see you again next Friday, I wonder what's next?.
got to agree and the polymer RM8 Varmit is quite cheap at under 400 quid, mind you still need a pump if its your first PCP, wonder if its regulated!!!
Nice one Andy a really good starter rifle i have a rm8 so i can see this being a fantastic rifle..big thanks.
Thanks for this, was looking for a honest review before I purchased! Know I've bought a sturdy piece now.
Thanks Andy! Nice review!
Good, truthful review I think.
I wonder is this 'modeled' after the same rifle as their ( Umarex's ) PCP Gauntlet?
Great feel. Accurate, groups great
Hi Andy,
Very well done 👏. I really like to watch and listen your reviews. Liked and subscribed. Thanks for the good job👍
what's make is that beautiful rifle on the back ground?
@ Andy ..... Umarex FUSION II 4.5 | CO2 the smaller sibbling can you do a review of that one ???????
Love the look of this rifle, but I have my eyes set on their ruger 10/22 I just wish they bring that out as a .22 11ftlb so it can be used for small game! Then it would be my dream and go to rifle
Nice always an alternative to consider✌️
Andy what's the chances of looking at the GAMO roadsters gen 2 10 shot break barrel
Co2, powerd rm8 !😁👍
That bolt action looks smooth as butter. My gauntlet is rough and stiff, even after 500 rounds.
I would compare it to butter, but pretty smooth. I only have the Lee Enfield .303 to compare it to :) (Not counting cocking a FAL SLR or SA80.)
Hate to see the rifle resting on the scope when he turns it upside down on the table. What could that do to zero?
Nice vid, are you going to ever make a video of Chrono reviews ? that would be great.
Slightly off-topic - Looking for air rifle recommendation... mainly for back garden target shooting and small vermin control....
See the recommendations for the request above yours.
It looks very Walther RM8 around the safety catch, magazine, bolt and breech area.
I think they have been raining the parts bin
That is a lot of money for a Co2 rifle and not much less than the RM8 itself.
The problem with all the scope included starter kits is that the scope is usually bog basic and will probably get replaced rather quickly.
With the extra running costs of the Co2 capsules, I think I would go for a budget PCP instead or even a mid range Weihrauch Springer.
Which gun would you choose for field target competition?
Hi.. do you have a video on benjamin armata pcp?
Please do a review of Umarex Fusion 2
New to all this do get this kit or a webley nemesis???? Wonder what the range difference is
For the Empire!
Is this video old, the 850M that I’m looking at doesn’t have all of these extras. Can I get this kit somewhere, or have they changed it?
Good review Andy on the 850 MK2, but it does come at a rather hefty price, when there are better deals out there and cheaper too for a starter PCP and pump. By the way, any chance of a review on the latest smk victory Pr900w in .177 cal ? I believe the new models have a removable screw on silencer and hopefully old issues have been resolved ! Cheers
You dont say the exact price of those big co2 cartridges
$30 US dollars for the adapter.
$3 to $5 for an 88 gram CO2 cartridge.
If I were to purchase one of these Umarex 850 M2 Empire Rifle kits, I would seriously consider a Walther adapter for fitting two 12 gm Co2 cartriges.
Looks like a nice gun, I just purchased two SA10s from umarex
Looking at this Rifle so thanks for the detailed review.
New to CO2, but have used spring and FAC previously. Question is from the Millennials- are the CO2 canisters recyclable? I presume they are made of a recyclable metal and can be popped in with your other metals?
Just as recyclable as the Nox cylinders the youfs (surely not millenials) litter the countryside with.
Think i am going to get this kit i also must be the only person going from a pcp to co2 why ??. I like the ease of co2 no longer like lugging around a pcp bottle and as i don't go shooting too much i think it fits what i'm looking for also my colt takes c02 so two birds and one stone.
this is the one I've just bought but haven't got around to testing it yet. hopefully its as good as the reviews say it is.
It's good for someone who wants to try out shooting but with the likes of artemis and kral etc etc, people can get a NEW pcp set up for that amount now.
How about a review of the lee Enfield. They have one in my local gun shop. Just wondering if you have fired it and what’s it like.
What is the difference VS UMAREX FUSION?
Do I understand you right, that the scope doesn't have any focus adjustment on the eyepiece?
Does the 12gr cartridge adapter have the same power as the 88gr
What was the scope mount size? standard picatany?
Great review as always Andy. Almost bought the old version a while ago, but decided against it. So for those of us on a tight budgets which rifle would you invest in for ease of use and pleasure, this Umarex, or the Gamo GX40? I know the Gamo is cheaper and a pcp, but I do feel the Umarex is a little high in price. Hmmmmmm, decisions, decisions..!
One of Artemis rifles would see you well in my opinion for anyone on a budget. Andy has reviewed a few and would hopefully agree.
@@danhattersley6213 Thanks for the advice. Will take a look at Andys Artemis reviews.
Cheers
Hi Andy, can you let me know the model of Walther adapter you mention in this review please?
Ramsbottom tell me their Umarex Walther Lever Action & Beretta CX4 Storm Co2 Adapter Set 88g to 2 x 12g. Will Not fit the 850 M2
Can’t believe they don’t supply the 12g cartridge adapter! What does it cost?
Is that the Walther rotex rm8 action ??
thank you for the review, would it be much use for rabbit shooting? wasn't sure whether that would be included in "small vermin"
thank you.
I had a daisy powerline 992 .22 ... 9 pumps 8.5 ... 9 flbs lights out on jackdaw sised birds... 20 ...25...yrds ...850 air magnum no problem ...😆
This is abit out of my price range for now but I am considering getting the old 850 then saving up for the m2
Beautiful rifle that I wished was a pcp with a larger caliber.
Just a quick question? was the shooting results with 12g CO2 in the adaptor or was you using the larger CO2 ? thanking you. great review by the way.
i like the bipod mind, can you get that onit its own , would go nice on my rm8 varmit
How you doing are gunners I am debating on two rifles I want to get one is the Umarex Gauntlet 177 and the other is Gamo Urban 22 which one is a better rifle overall you think I should get I will really appreciate your help thank you very much
Andy when are you reviewing the sig vertus pcp we need a expert opinion
I actually had one in my hands 3 weeks ago and didn’t have the time to review it that point. I was going to go into more detail at the IWA show, but that has now been cancelled/postponed. but as soon as I get back I will be reviewing it, rest assured. thanks for watching.
@@markbird4083 thanks a lot buddy
@@andrewwallace9290 no worries. Also, forgot to mention that despite being that cheap it's also regulated so frankly an absolute bargain. Will be getting one myself in the next couple of weeks!
@Wheaten Zoomies thanks mate, great advice 👍
Without a doubt a Seneca Aspen. Add a UTG 3-9×40 scope- AO set at 25 y and focus is good from 10 y to 100.
Oil it a lot. Work the pump slowly to keep the heat low. For $400, Fantastic gun accurate to 70 y and climbing. Side lever is easy and smooth. Safety is outside of the trigger guard where it should be, yet easy to reach. Trigger is very good, especially at v light pull.
Nice review! And Nice Air Rifle! How much that Air Rifle? & Scope? Thank you.. 👍🙋♂️
The Umarex Gauntlet is still the best deal going. End of story!
Did someone know if I will put co2 88g cartridge then shoot few times so for how long I can keep it inside this gun ???
"Stiff and Solid has to be the better option."
That's what she said.
Way too pricey! Buy either a CP2 or QB78 and a simple tuning kit. You will get similar or better performance for half the price.
I doubt either would have the quality of the 850 being that they are both made in China. However I did own a bolt action smk I bought at a boot fair brand new for £60 and tbh it was very accurate
Nice and have subscribed :)
I own a 850 magnum . Can I get it chronagraphed in Derby without buying one ?
I just purchased the 88 g cartridges and paid £18 for two
At that weight you might as well get a springer.
Nice review, still would never buy a CO2 rifle.
The RM8 has a big tank so filling it to 230bar before heading out should give enough air for a night of hunting.
Heads up Andy, there is only 3 mins of this on AG101.
thank you. I’m chasing that one up now. Thanks again 👍🎥
Excellent high-quality review, thank you.
Gud mor sir,
Nice vedio nice gun , i like it.but how much do u pay 4 it sir ty..
Love your honesty Andy but think for that cash there is alot better out there
👍👍👍😜🏴🦄🎣😁✌️
now i have seen this gun somewhere before, oh yes its the same workins of my walther rm8 177
