Thank you for this wonderful review, Andy. In my youth, living in the Philippines, I started out with a Philippine made Squires Bingham (now Armscor) CO2 air rifle that had a threaded air reservoir under the barrel, and it was charged with a CO2 tank that had a threaded valve. We would thread the tank into the reservoir intake in front, open the valve for a few seconds, charge the rifle, and then close the valve tightly and unscrew. I could usually get about a dozen effective shots out of it per charging before lower pressure would have an effect on pellet trajectory. The CO2 tank, when empty, could be sent to a sporting goods shop for a CO2 refill. It was usually sold seprarately from the rifle. I believe my gun was called the Squires Bingham Model 16 bolt action air rifle. I had won quite a few medals in competitions with this rifle as a young man. It is no longer being manufactured, unfortunately, but there are still quite a number of these plugging away all over the Philippines. I no longer live there, but this is one type of air rifle that I don't see anywhere else in the world. I am curious as to whether you have ever had air guns like these in the UK?
Amazing. In Australia we are not permitted to have anything shown here without firearms training a firearms license, approved gun safe, police approval and of course, fees and charges .......... even that pigeon would attract attention from Bio security bods. I'm fairly sure that those military replica BB shooters would not be permitted full stop. We are allowed to have catapults but not if they have wrist grips. Having said this, the criminals have full access to everything.
@@RyleKittenhouse I agree I thank God everyday I live in Vermont that is crazy crazy laws I hope they never come this way if they do we'll be fighting for a second amendment not giving up my gun's hell no 👍😊
You would have been a great teacher. I have been teaching high school for 25 years in Canada and aside from being very eloquent, you have the capacity to explain in detail and capture ones attention. Now enough with the compliments, I sure can't wait until the FIRST REVIEW of the new Crosman AK 1 folding stock, full auto (where available) . This is Crosman's latest offer after the DPMS and the R1. It's even in the 2020 Crosman catalog and for sale on several websites. Thank's again, great show. :-)
Even though I am in Canada ( where we are not allowed to project our hearing with the use of 'moderators/silencers ' )I do find that Andy of AAR is my preferred source for air gun shooting information and education, especially when the itch starts again to go shopping for another gun. Thanks for this Andy.
Wonderful, informative video. I grew up in the 1970's with the lever-n-spring operated Daisy BB rifle. I had so much fun with this as a 11 to 12 year old boy. Always wanted the more powerful CO2 style rifle but the parents wouldn't go for that. Thanks again for this video.
my first air rifle was the crossman 1077 .177mm 12-shot semi-automatic rifle, which i thought was a good idea at the time, it was low power(7,5joule) but what i didn't realize at the time is that it can only be used outdoor is the summer or wehn temps are above 15 celsius, so now i am looking to buy the Gama 1250 magnum IGT air rifle, so i can also shoot on the not so cold wintersdays
Great information. I would suggest also that you let newcomers know that you must use an air-rated scope on an air rifle to keep them from wasting money tearing up rifle scopes.
Some years ago i used to play paintball, we started with Co2 cartridges, progressed to larger refillable bottles, but found Co2’s limitations of being affected by cold and less fill when refilling from a much larger bottle. So we all changed to air system which was much more reliable, apart from the sizes and shape, but lighter.
Cheers from the colonies! Great video for beginners. I really appreciate how in depth the explanations are Not everyone is military or law enforcement, or have even fired a weapon before so I appreciate this video very much for that
To calculate the Ft-lb of the airgun, the formula is actually ; Ft/lb = Velocity of pellet (feet per second) x Velocity of pellet (feet per second) x Weight Of Pellet (Grains) / 450240 or “V squared x mass over 450240 = Ft-lbs (energy)
That humungous conversion factor! It is correct. Just seems a little funny, coming from a SI background. Grains, Feet, Lbs (that's pounds of force, not mass, btw) .... aaargh!
Got mine from the CCS over 3 years ago. 18" Crosman bbl from then. Got it to control squirrels and named it Squirrel-X. I also got a carbon fiber TKO moderator on it. Made it far more yard friendly with the nieghbors. Took the report from 111 db down to 96 or so. In db math that means it is like 1/26th the noise it had before mounting the moderator. The moderator is GRRRRRREAT! Mine is not that long,,,,adds like 6" to the barrel length. I can more easily tell the difference between the pellet hitting a tree, ground or felt. I have laid in head shots on squirrels @ 40 yds with this thing when I could bench rest the barrel. Lot's of drop over 40 yds but still,,,,with what was a 100 dollar Hawk 2-7 scope the thing is magic. I run Air Arms Falcon 13.4 pellets. Even with the iron sights (I found a light fiber front sight that fits the moderator and the scope is on 'view under' mount) I hit em out to 30 yards easily. No head shots though on that dance. Drop @ 40 yds is like 3.5". Easily graduated on the scope retical. The stock was short so I tossed a pool noodle on the shoulder member to tighten it up for me. I also put a pool noodle on the upper stock so when my cheek hits the stock it aligns with the scope. That piece can be slid back on the stock for sighting under the scope with iron sights. Great gun man. For the price it's unbelievable. The squirrels no longer run from the report. They are just that stupid. However the down side to the moderator is that the neighborhood cats no longer come running to gather up gifts for their owners. lol Iron sights zeroed @ 10 yds and scope @ 20. So yeah 3.5 drop @ 40 yds on the scope. .22 is pushing 'bout 600 fps with the pellets listed above. Just took out two more tree rodents today @ about 25 yds. Easy picking they were. Drop from 10 to 20 yds is like 3/8". Drop from 20-30 yds is 1 and 3/8' Still enough power @ 40 yards to go clean through a squirrel's head. Put a drop of 30W engine oil on the cartridges to limit leakage and lube the interals and the barrel. Mine is sporting a rifled barrel.
You are soo good!! :) You have made me buy Artemis cp2/Pr900w. Hatsan Bullboss, Crosman dmps (full auto), Crossman 2240 modded to ratcatcher. Crossman 1875 cowboy and a Colt saa Peacemaker co2 Diabolo, and now even Wife like shooting! (she doesent like gunpowder based guns, she thinks they sounds to much :)) Keep the good work up !! And i forgot, the loader to dpms/sbr do work :)
Ive hunted rabbits with both the Umarex 10/22 and the cowboy under lever shell ejector, they both do the job with a single head/eye shot, no problem at 50 yards. You can use 1000 fps break barrel at 100 yards, and you could even use a 400 fps pistol at 10-20 yards if you really wanted to. Don't let yourself think that just because it does or doesn't say hunting on the box that you can or can't hunt with it. For hunting 50yd and less, I much prefer my 10/22 (.177) For hunting over my two gamo Break barrels. Semi auto double action, or 2 pound trigger with single action, 12 shot capacity. I only use the break barrel when i absolutley need some more distance. As far as general fun, versatile usage, price, and replication, its just easily one of my all around favorites.
I used to own a daisy model 2001 co2 air rifle. It has a 35 round magazine. Best air gun ever and very nice hunting small game. I could pretty much go all day with a container of pellets to reload and an extra cylinder for the next mag recreational shooting
All you need to know is to get a 2nd variant Crosman 180 or a 160 from the same era. Best that have ever been made. So good that the qb78 made today is a Chinese copy. With my '65 180 set all the way down on low with the first cocking notch I get 50 good shots.
Good stuff as always. We big ratty fans an have customised lots of em. Not convinced that the metal breech improves the power tho, as long as the transfer port seal is good. I use plastic ones on the pistols and metal on the rifles. We have bolt action and side lever multi shot breeches on ours Also rattys cam be easily changed to a high pressure air instead of co2, makes em less temp sensitive. David James Thompson and Norris Sheldon both make great custom parts for rattys in the UK.
Co2 are fairly good in warm weather and I made a custom rifle out of an XS78, but when it got colder the power dropped and so did the number of shoots, this was in .22 cal. I had a 92s in .177 cal and power wise poor but it looked good and was fun to shoot at 10 yards but after that not very good. If you want FUN guns that look like the real thing and are multiple shoot them these are good. If you can afford to go PCP then yes you will gain a rifle or piston which will give you all weather shooting with power and accuratecy over a much longer range but for a price. The CO2 is not that cheap. On my rifle I had 4 bulbs under the barrel which gave me 80 shoots max with about 50 at reasonable power. I went back to my spring guns which don't have any of these problems and are ready to go when ever I want. All the guys in the Field target club I went to all had PCP or Spring guns for target work and we had a CO2 range for fun shooting.
I have several PCP's and springers but only two CO2 rifles, time I got a few more in my collection, I really want one of those shell ejecting Winchesters. Great vid Andy and great info for beginners.
Came across this video by pure chance, throughly enjoyed it had air rifles when I was a kid and you could order them from a catalogue “Kay’s” if I remember correctly lol I’m 67 now so shows how long ago! As an ex Royal Marine I’ve fired just about every kind of weapon you can think of, now I have an allotment which on occasion suffers from our long tailed friends so the rat catcher looks good, can or have you done a video of approximate costs, UK wise that is, I’m aware this channel goes out to many different countries. Cheers John
Heeb Slayer69 thats if you could hit your target with a 9mm pistol lol vert inaccurate with terrible kick back, on the other question of air rifle power, yeah our gun laws are extremely hard ☹️
Air guns are good when you can't get to a firing range helps keep your aiming and shooting better. I've been shooting sense I was young both with co2 and pump rifles and pistols. Co2 is good but the pump rifles and pistols are a bit better thou less worry about the co2 running out. They are both fun thou and I recommend both co2 and pump rifles and pistols so others can see how they perform.
Great review as always Andy👍 i like it when fellow shooters like all types of guns , not just stick to the most expensive products, top banana matey 🤠.
Great vid I'm a veteran airgun enthusiast and indeed a veteran (British army) I quite like co2 pistols but don't have a co2 rifle my new years resolution is to think of a way of convincing the Mrs this is viable 🤔🤔🤔
Same trouble here John had one before and it was a bit noisey shooting out of the garage. I can hear her voice now saying come in now Ken the old boy next door is home
There has been a right cock up with one of the rifles I brought, it's not supposed to be full auto but on the selector switch that gives you the option of single, semi or full auto, it actually allows the selection of full auto, so warning to anyone who gets a gun/rifle where the selector switch says full auto I'd double check the rifle before buying.
Thanx for this vid and thumb up. Guess you gave a good overview over the market and possibilities an upcoming co2 shooter will have. Very interesting for me is the part describing the replica. Since I try to buy replica that fits most the original this vid comes at the best point of time.
Im from America. Never saw this kind of detailed video for this subject. Never knew so many detailed weapons with such varied munitions. Im assuming it is due to gun restrictions in Europe. Cheers...
Just got into airguns with a DPMS, now I'm thinking of a Crosman 1077. Love the videos, keep it up! You should come to the US on holiday and go full auto (and shoot powder guns hah)
The bit that confuses me is were I would use any air gun these days , yrs ago I used to walk down the canal in the uk 🇬🇧, nowadays guess you can’t use in any public place , so it’s target shooting at gun clubs ,, but the one nr me only allow 177 target type guns that seem to cost a fortune ,and they are to anal for my liking , so shooting guns like I used to yrs ago is a very serious event with the fun removed ,, cheers shane
I like to put a little Vicks vapor rub in the hollow part of my pellet. Intense air pressure causes it to explode and I'm curious as to how much feet per second it adds.
I love my ratcatcher, I've got pcps and springers but the crosman is my go to garden pest control gun. Using rws hobby it's pellet on pellet at garden ranges and the flat head pellets knock rats over like they have been hit with an invisible mallet. Great tool for unwanted pests around the bird feeder.
If you doubled the pressure of the CO2, how much would the muzzle velocity be increased by? Are the legal limits based on muzzle velocity or ft/lb. of energy?
I would like to see a video on how to make more power…. I’m in the United States 🇺🇸 so no worries about the law. I’d be happy to get one full magazine but as hot as it would fly them
9:01, the calculation isn't too complicated: V^2 • M ÷ 450240. That's: velocity times velocity (in feet per second) times mass (weight in grains) ÷ 450240 = KE (termed foot pounds of energy in airgunspeak). Example: 720 x 720 x 15.89 grains ÷ 450240 = 18.295 fps.
Commenter Five I feel like a smart ass or a know it all when I try to tell other shooters how to figure out their projectiles energy. Nice to know I’m not the only on that probably has this happen too. Plus the question of the 450240... try explaining gravity’s constant to one of these shooters. I’m not that articulate and can’t seem to get them to understand. This formula is simple and like you, don’t get why some people find it difficult to understand.
Maybe you’ve done a video on this, but one thing that I have found confusing as a new air gunner is knowing what oil to use on what part of the gun. The only advice that I’ve ever received is don’t use anything meant for a fire arm on an air gun. I’d like to know a little more about this please, if you or someone in the comments here has the time. Some folks say use silicon oils, some say use petroleum distillates, and none of the air gun manufacturers want to tell you exactly what their oil is made of.
In general, a good quality machine or even motor oil (petroleum based) is good for linkages, pivots and slides, used sparingly. However, and in particular for spring guns, petroleum based lubricants should not be used on any parts of the compression system, as it can cause detonation in the cylinder or barrel, which can result in damage. This is what's called 'dieseling' and is akin to the firing cycle of a diesel engine. Any parts of an air compression system must be lubricated with silicon oil to avoid this. The same applies to greases.
Andy, can you please tell me the fastest FPS C02 pellet launcher you know of, preferably in.177 with 12g C02 canisters. Please and Thank You! The Ruger 10/22 seems to be the strongest i can find
I have been shooting air rifles from about the age of 8 spring mainly and I can honestly say the best compressed air rifle I ever used was a RWS Excalibur are they still available?
cool.. I loved it.. have recently purchased the Crosman SBR.. I like it, but find it a bit of a pain as it shoots the 25 round magazine in about 1.5 seconds and have to reload often, and it goes through a ton of CO2 in a hurry.. kind of a bummer.. but still fun to shoot, just a quik question.. is there an option to use a larger CO2 cylinder for the Crosman SBR rifle?
Sorry to comment on an old vid, but i cant find the Walther 88g adapter review you did in the past. Hoping to use it in a Nemesisx but unsure about length..any help gratefully accepted😁👍
Full auto airsoft guns are legal and also self indexing air rifles (semi auto) are also legal if smooth bore no? If the law has changed again would be good to know I assumed these were the latest rules I could be wrong tho of course. Anchutz sell a semi auto air rifle don't they? I may be well wrong if I am be great to know what's going on properly currently guys. Also as always excellent video mate appreciate your content :)
Er... surely measuring the kinetic energy of the pellet as 1/2 m.v^2 isn't too complicated for most people... We covered this at school when I was 12...
Hi can you you please tell me why all the emphisis on pcp etc and not springers such tx200 and all your discriptions on pcp rifles,I thought you looked at all kinds of these rifles ,Please ,thankyou

I have a ratcatcher xl and its great and im a seasoned airgun enthusiast. i also have a fully tuned 95 but love the co2 for close range great vid 👍
How do you tune them?
Change and polish the internals new top hat and spring and guide
Great review as always Andy👍 i like it when fellow shooters like all types of guns , not just stick to the most expensive products, top banana matey 🤠.
Great vid I'm a veteran airgun enthusiast and indeed a veteran (British army) I quite like co2 pistols but don't have a co2 rifle my new years resolution is to think of a way of convincing the Mrs this is viable 🤔🤔🤔
Ha ha. Buy it and tell her you’ve had it ages, like Mrs AAR does with shoes! 😂👍. Thanks for watching.
Same trouble here John had one before and it was a bit noisey shooting out of the garage. I can hear her voice now saying come in now Ken the old boy next door is home
There has been a right cock up with one of the rifles I brought, it's not supposed to be full auto but on the selector switch that gives you the option of single, semi or full auto, it actually allows the selection of full auto, so warning to anyone who gets a gun/rifle where the selector switch says full auto I'd double check the rifle before buying.
iam fairly new to co2 air rifles & this video has def taught me A hell of A lot already so thanks for that👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
I just ordered the Beeman 10m competition Style CO2 rifle with diopter sights.
Amazing content I watch all ur videos u help a lot keep it up andy
i can really tell that you like the glock 17 gen 4 :) its in so many videos
Thanx for this vid and thumb up. Guess you gave a good overview over the market and possibilities an upcoming co2 shooter will have. Very interesting for me is the part describing the replica. Since I try to buy replica that fits most the original this vid comes at the best point of time.
shared ... everyone is going to need to hunt real soon, and Air-Riffle's are very quiet and powerful!
I also use some plumbers tape to seal the threads as most of the time they leak through the thread on the 88g co2
Im from America. Never saw this kind of detailed video for this subject. Never knew so many detailed weapons with such varied munitions. Im assuming it is due to gun restrictions in Europe. Cheers...
@@heebslayer6959 Thx. I kept hearing the narrator saying some of the weapons can be used for hunting. To me, that can be used as a weapon...
Check out the new Milbro Speedmaster multi shot rifle. 11f/lbs, light weight and very accurate. Very affordable too.
Great video Andy, I'm using a Hämmerli 850 Magnum Kit with a Walther adapter for ratting. It works very well!!
Greetings from AT
Bernd B. What’s a Walther adapter?
Why the two thumbs down. These are great as always.
Hi Andy, Field Target Trophy Green and most other lead-free pellets are made of tin alloys. Not aluminium :)
BB's stand for ball bearings... I never even thought about that. Lol! It's amazing how much obvious knowledge you miss by being uncurious.
@@lancecozad5704 I did. BB, as it's commonly used, can refer to ball bearings, bullet balls, or a size measurement according to legal websites.
Just got into airguns with a DPMS, now I'm thinking of a Crosman 1077. Love the videos, keep it up! You should come to the US on holiday and go full auto (and shoot powder guns hah)
What a brilliant beginners guide, thank you.
Thank you very much. Suddenly interested in CO2 rifles because of a city pigeon problem at home
Get a pcp for pest control.
I REALLY ENJOYED SOME OF YOUR VIDS MATE ,CHEARRY-OOOOOH !!!!! IM SUBBED !!!!
Awesome - exactly what I was looking for! Thanks!
As always Andy. Informative and entertaining. Keep it up!
Some of those guns look fun as hell to shoot
The bit that confuses me is were I would use any air gun these days , yrs ago I used to walk down the canal in the uk 🇬🇧, nowadays guess you can’t use in any public place , so it’s target shooting at gun clubs ,, but the one nr me only allow 177 target type guns that seem to cost a fortune ,and they are to anal for my liking , so shooting guns like I used to yrs ago is a very serious event with the fun removed ,, cheers shane
I'm waiting for the Umarex Winchester shell ejector in pellet form. Would go nicely with their Colt 45s.
John Burtenshaw you mean the Winchester shell ejecting rifle they released in bb form? It also fires pellets too and is better with them
Yeah they if there 4.5mm bbs they should fit a 177 pellet in the shell
Nice review i like the 2240 i have a 2289g and love it keep up the good work
Great video. Production top notch
Love your channel! Great stuff mate!
You are an excellent teacher!
Another great video my friend. I'll be sharing it on FB in some of the groups for any beginners that may be 'lurking around'.
Thank you, happy new year 👍
I put on about 5 groups Andy.
I use my crossman sbr with just the one gas bulb for vermin as most gardens are too small for a rifle
This is a great video what is the name of the first lever action rifle you showed with ejecting pellet shells?
I like to put a little Vicks vapor rub in the hollow part of my pellet. Intense air pressure causes it to explode and I'm curious as to how much feet per second it adds.
Awesome video, as usual.
I’d be happy to get one full magazine but as hot as it would fly them
9:01, the calculation isn't too complicated:
V^2 • M ÷ 450240.
That's:
velocity times velocity (in feet per second) times mass (weight in grains) ÷ 450240 = KE (termed foot pounds of energy in airgunspeak).
This formula is simple and like you, don’t get why some people find it difficult to understand.
great video,,,,,,could please give me more details of the red dot on the dpms ,,cheers Andy
splendid video , thanks Andy :D
What was the name of the wooden pellet bolt action pellet gun with scope? Ty 👍🏻
Good review Andy first timeWith you good review
You're the Man Andy!
Great video
Any news on the CP2 PCP version I'd really like to add that to my gun collection
Me too, no idea yet, but I’m chasing them. Thanks for watching.
What make and model Airgun is that lever action with the gold side plates, Thank You
Andy, can you please tell me the fastest FPS C02 pellet launcher you know of, preferably in.177 with 12g C02 canisters. Please and Thank You! The Ruger 10/22 seems to be the strongest i can find
your videos are produced so well!
Have you done the video of upgrading/tuning the crossman 2250 as i cannot find it. Thanks
I have been shooting air rifles from about the age of 8 spring mainly and I can honestly say the best compressed air rifle I ever used was a RWS Excalibur are they still available?
Do you have a video of what would be your number 1 airgun if you had to choose just 1. And why
Do you ever give tutorials on how to replace seals in the co2 mechanism
thanks for the guide AAR
Amazingly concise
Er... surely measuring the kinetic energy of the pellet as 1/2 m.v^2 isn't too complicated for most people... We covered this at school when I was 12...
Hi can you you please tell me why all the emphisis on pcp etc and not springers such tx200 and all your discriptions on pcp rifles,I thought you looked at all kinds of these rifles ,Please ,thankyou
