My theory is that this car was really designed to be a sports hatch car from the start. Hence the sporty look, great driving dynamics, rear spolier, rear wheel drive etc. MG downgraded the specs of the launch models perhaps to see the sales figures. Now that it turns out the sales are decent, they're now gonna sell the X power variant with monstrous power.

I know this is primarily a performance review, but while I love driving my MG4 Trophy to me its best feature is the Arkamys 3D enhanced sound system. How it achieves such accurate full-range music reproduction with a standard speaker set-up is beyond me. Yes it’s more quality home HiFi than club disco so probably won’t turn pedestrian’s heads as you drive by, but every type of music sounds amazing; as an amateur musician and sound engineer, I’d happily mix an album sitting in the driver’s seat.

Question - as you have driven both, if price were not a factor would you recommend the X Power or the new Extended Range Trophy?
I am torn between the two. I love the idea of the grunt of the X Power, but I’d also value the rear wheel drive fun of the Trophy. I am due to test the X Power out this coming Tuesday.

No it’s ok and it did make sense the X power is more money, the X-Power has a lovely rear wheel bias so it’s so much fun, I would say if you have the money honestly go with the X-Power it’ll retain so much more value and on EV’s it could start to become a big thing.

@@PeakPerformanceReviews thanks! I feel if I went for he trophy I’d end up wishing I went for the X Power, so that’s helped budge me in the right direction 🙂 I was also weighing up a born, but it’ll cost me over £100 more per month to spec it the way I’d want it. Also, having seen the Born out on the roads, it has a slightly ‘narrow’ look to it, that’s makes sense? Best way I can describe it 😂

      @@PeakPerformanceReviewsI’ll keep you posted!
I test drove a Born last week and, whilst I thought the quality all round was good, it wasn’t without fault. The dreaded steering wheel haptic controls immediately irritated, and I found the A pillar caused me to have to move around a lot to get good vision of the curb on roundabouts when taking them enthusiastically. Nice car otherwise though. I also kinda want more power. I feel if they pop the new 281 bhp motor that’s going in the Tavascan in the back they’d have the right balance of performance vs driving dynamics with keeping it RWD. It certainly drove better than I expected regardless.

  • @InBodWeTrust

Re. hatchback vs SUV then we'll have to agree to disagree ... the MG4 is not in any way, shape or form an SUV - it is more akin to an Astra/Focus/Golf; would anyone call one of them an SUV? (Answer is no). 🙂

If I can make this happen I will do this.
I have driven the Smart #one Brabus edition and I’m going to be reviewing the MG4 X Power in a few weeks so I’ll let you know my thoughts on both soon.
Thanks for watching, please stick around and subscribe if you haven’t already 🙌🙌

Following on from our chat about manual gearboxes..... These EV's don't have any gears at all lol.

Other reviewers don't rate this car to highly. Have you been paid.

Really I’ve seen loads of good reviews but definitely not paid for it haha not from the manufacturer, only TH-cam ad revenue.
It’s a very decent car and you certainly gotta look at the value too

Did you refer to the Cupra born as being an SUV…?
    Are you mental?
I’m looking at mine next to an A3 and it’s no higher..
Unless you call every car SUVs
    How odd
