Sorry for the delay in responding. The nickle test is usually done on a table saw. The nickle is placed on edge, the saw is turned on, ran for a while, then shut off. The purpose of the nickle test is to check/test for vibration.

Like the vibration testing! The water and penny is a good idea, not seen it done like that before.
    Keep 'em coming 💪

Thanks 👍 (it was a nickel. The nickel test is mainly used on a table saw)

Very informative. Where did you buy the switch and how did you attach it?

      Thank you.
      Switch is from Amazon www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KPEFL2I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I purchased an electrical outlet box from a big box store to fit the switch. I drilled and tapped in to the saw to mount the box. Hope this helps.

Very nice saw and thanks for taking the time to post the video! It helps many others go thru the process... I have the exact same saw but with the cabinet base and have upgraded everything " Carter " plus a 6" riser block along with a new 2hp Leeson. I did notice you don't have or did not show the Bearing Loading Springs and the washers in front of the bearings...i'm trying to figure out the assembly order for the drive shaft and pulley. I'm working from two different manuals of the same saw and the nut washers are missing from one of the diagrams. Do you recall your assembly order? Cheers!

From what I can find out vintagemachinery.org/pubs/1141/876.pdf order of assembly on the shaft with the pully: (2) bearing load springs, bearing, washer, hex jam nut.
      Also from: www.mikestools.com/download/Delta-Parts-Lists/28-200-14-Inch-Wood-Cutting-Band-Saws-BS2B.pdf
      Hope this Helps.

@@countrymagic61 Appreciate you taking the time to look that up! For whatever reason, Im never able to login to OWWM/Vintagemachines. The one manual I have doesn’t show the washer against the bearing race behind the jam nut which didn’t make sense to me but got me questioning…lol. Same model but different print date…thanks again!!

I don't even own a bandsaw, but I feel like a bandsaw expert after watching this! Gotta try the nickel test next time I visit my grandfather!

I am pleased you got some information from the video and was able to illustrate what I was doing. I am in no way an expert myself, I learned from watching others and I have somewhat a mechanical/electrical background. I am still learning how to do things in creating a video. Hopefully I will learn more and provide better quality and enjoyable content.

I stumbled across your video while doing my own quest for a "new" bandsaw. Almost ready to pull the trigger on an identical model nearby and I'm expecting to have to perform some upgrades and refurbishing. Since you've gone through the process, are there any "gotchas" that you would suggest get reviewed or addressed? Anything to consider when I'm looking to buy, or anything to just stay away from?

Do your homework. Check out reviews (but, don't take them to heart). I have been researching band saws for quite some time. I knew I wanted a 14" band saw. I finally came across the one I got. One thing to look for is...does it have all the parts. Depending on any needed part you can get them on eBay. Some are more expensive than what they are worth. Don't be afraid to put some elbow grease in to it. I'm mechanically inclined. I enjoyed disassembling the saw. It also taught me more about the saw. Two things you may replace from the get go is the drive belt and the tires. I got my "link" belt from Harbor Freight. Tires from Amazon. The main "gotcha" that got me was the upper wheel. I had removed the bearings to clean them. There is a spacer between the bearings. When reassembling the upper wheel, I put one bearing in, put the spacer in, then I got the other bearing in...The spacer had turned sideways on me. When trying to remove one of the bearings....I messed it up! Had to replace one of the bearings. This time, I put a rod through the bearings and spacer while I set the new bearing in place. I set up my band saw using Alex Snodgrass's method (link in the description). I wish you good luck and happy hunting.

Stay away from Harbor Freight band saw, More trouble than what the are worth.
