Just bought this same vintage saw,open stand,original motor,fence rack but no fence,all complete and not abused,original belt guard too!! 50.00 at a public sale !! Every now and then we get lucky !!
So I just picked one up, and it's seen some use... but all the pieces are there and she works! Doing research on the old girl as we speak...

Nice, they are very fun to restore. One tip would be to inspect the gear box bearing before replacing them, I replaced mine when they probably didn't need it and the replacement bearings weren't as good of quality as the original ones.
Very impressive work! Do you have any suggestions/guidance for wiring the retirement light to the switch box?
This is the same model I have. Thinking of upgrading the tension spring for the top wheel. when trying to resaw boards it tends to get a little wonky. I don't have a blade guard which I never new it to have one. It was my dads so it has been around a while. It has bearing for the guides which seem to not be design for this or something is off. I'ed like to upgrade those but not sure if parts are availible. I would be lost trying this much of a tear down and it does work sooo. But if you wanna stop by and tear into it,,, I would be for that. LOL Thanks for the video I sure enjoyed it.
These videos make it look easy and fast. Make no mistake these restoration take time and patience. The beauty of youtube is you can edit out a lot of the mistakes so it appears seamless. If you keep all the parts in separate plastic bins or bags it makes it quite a easy process to keep organized
Question: my 1946 Delta 14” bandsaw has the belt/pulley guard on the back, but the latch & knob is missing. Do you have pictures of what it should look like? Thank you.

Have you noticed any change in cut quality with the riser block on the bandsaw? I’ve seen some people say it doesn’t tension as well or can’t handle the extra height making cuts less precise.
How many loading springs did you use behind the bearings? the manual only called for two. mine is missing all of them but I'm pretty sure where the two go.
I would love if you could send me the slowed down version of rebuilding the gear box. Not many online.

i just got one of those saws, changing the gear oil. What type of oil do you use in the gearbox? I can see you fill the gearbox but can not make out the label. Thank you
I used conventional 80 90w gear oil. Delta recommended a "good grade of oil" . I hope that helps
Thanks for taking the time to show the process. What was the paint color you used? Also, when you turn off the blade, did the motor keep running separate from the blade?
I have one from the late 30s-early 40s I plan on rehabbing. I might go new paint or leave it in its "used" look but replace any moving parts.
The paint color is rust olum charcol grey. The motor and blade are always in sinc so when I turn off the motor the blade will eventually come to a stop

Nicely done. I have a similar machine. As yet I have found no Model ID information on it. It has a 1/3hp motor. Can you tell me where on these, that information can be found? Also, what model is the machine in your video?
This will be a great reference guide for restoration.

there is a serial number on the side of the base casting. you can cross reference this number on vintagemachinery.org/ to find the approximate date and machine model number. if you dont have a serial number you can still date it by doing some research on vintagemachinery.org/ they are the best resource for information on older tools that i have ever found
Nice work!!!! I doing a '51 right now. Can you tell me gear oil amount? Haven't been able to fine that info anywhere. Thanks and keep at em'!
Everything that I have read says fill untill the oil is in the bottom of the oil fill cup.

I just picked up a 14" delta Milwaukee bandsaw as well, How do you tell when it was made? It's pretty much the same as in your video but I suspect it may be newer.
Go to www.vintagemachinery.org/mfgindex/detail.aspx?id=1141&tab=4&sort=4&th=true&fl=Band%20Saw and compare the serial number to find the closest match. They should also have the year on the same page

@@KraeseRepairs if you google Carter blade guides they have bearing kits for this style of bandsaw, I use the orignal delta guides with cool blocks since I do both metal and wood and I don't want to destroy the bearings of a upgraded Carter kit

Thanks, I used Jasco premium paint and epoxy remover. It's sold at most big box home improvement stores.
