  • This recipe is from Johns Custom Saws
    Thanks John!
    10 quarts of boiling water.
    1 cup Acetone.
    1/2 cup white vinegar.
    1/4 cup salt.
    2 tablespoons dish washing liquid.
    1 seven or eight oz bottle of Rit black dye and
    1 seven or eight Oz bottle of Rit graphite dye.
    I boiled the plastics for 5 minuets per round, dipping them in cool water arfter the 5 minute boil, for a total of 3 rounds. John suggested pre heating the plastics in hot soapy water before dipping them back into the boiling water. I skipped this step altogether.
    My plastics now straight-up look just like they came from the factory as black molded plastics. I do feel like the extra bottle of graphite added a very desirable sheen to the finished product, and I would definitely recommend 3 rounds as there was a definite difference between rounds 1 and 2. Round 3 was the cherry on top.

    This works wayyyy better on good condition plastics with sheen to them. Older, duller plastics will just come out dull, but black. There's videos of this from where it originated and that's dying pmag's for AR rifles. I used to use several different concoctions- now I just use hot water (light boil) for 30 -40 minutes. Works every time. Just don't splash it on your dry, winter cracked hands right before you go a funeral 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ I have had success doing several different colors but darker is better.

    My G660 blue dyed with cherry red produced an awesome eggplant color that goes well over the white. Do not mix acetone in boiling water, don't ask.

      Oh Husky orange dyed with the cherry red makes a close match to Jonsred red.

    I'm excited go get my Chinese 372 clone because I'm going to dye the plastic purple and black to model a wild thing. The wild thing may not be the best saw but I love the colors of it

    A OEM 2152 is not open port. Someone must have put an open port top end on that saw, maybe off a 350. The 2152 is closed port saw.

    • @novicelumberjack
      @novicelumberjack  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It may not be an open port entirely, but it is definitely not the closed quad-port of the 2153. That's what I'm talking about. It can be difficult to get it all straight and remember every detail when shooting from the hip. Thanks for pointing it out!

      Leave the top cover blue, but then dye the side covers black. Then you can call it Kenny Wayne Shepherd...
