Yay, another blu ray collection video! These are always satisfying for me to watch for some reason but they also give me an incredible urge to buy movies lol
Haha it's a dangerous feeling!
Don’t Breath? Drag Me To Hell? Zodiac? Us? Get Out? Burning? Drive?
Saw Se7en in the cinema - and everyone jumped! Best jump scare ever. 😱
Mulholland Dr. is my favourite movie of all time. I vividly remember watching it in the cinema (yeah, I'm old). It was a late night screening, there was almost no one there, and the scene where Rebekah Del Rio sings Llorando was the best cinematic experience I ever had. Together with LOTR it's the only movie I saw more than once in the cinema. Lynch does psychological horror better than anyone, he knows how to create atmosphere. Lost Highway is similar and really good as well, but Mulholland Dr. is his best movie. So if you re-watch it, make sure it's late at night with no distractions.
I'm in a Lynch phase lately. Last week I watched a 4.5 hour (!) analysis of Twin Peaks on TH-cam. Almost as good as the show itself :) Btw, if you haven't seen the show, I think you can still watch Fire Walk With Me as a standalone movie. Psychological horror at its best.
If you're a fan of Patrick Wilson, check out Fargo season 2. It's his best role (and the best role of anyone in the stellar cast). You should see season 1 first though, for context.
I have also enjoyed, Lynch's, Inland Empire.
I Saw the Devil is a masterpiece! It's a really emotional film, the ending is just so sad..
Awesome collection! Awww man you REALLY NEED to watch Mullholland Dr. again Marianna. And yeah, The Devils Backbone is such an amazing, scary, and sad film
Nice to see some love for The Grey. Really underrated imo.
VERY underrated!
Which Grey?
Angel Heart, Jacob's Ladder, The Machinist, American Psycho, One Hour Photo, Donnie Darko, and Red Eye are also great. And a recent film called The Voices with Ryan Reynolds is also fantastic.
As soon as I saw Silence of the Lambs, I knew you had a great "taste" in horror. My top choices for movies I watch a lot are SOTL, Halloween, Alien 1 and 2 (huge soft spot for 3) Elm street parts 1 and 3, Zombieland, The Shinning... and a whole bunch more I can not list without a long ass post 😂
I would recommend the changeling, really good movie that doesn't get mentioned a lot. The original suspira is great too, just rewatched it the other day.
Dont Look Now and Cronos are both Criterion collection horror films tou should pick up. Especially given the barnes and noble sale happening at the moment.
Nice collection......the jump scare in seven must be the scene where one of the victims appears to be dead, then suddenly takes a deep breath:) totally got me.
Not once have I watched that with someone whom that seen didn't get.
Horror is my favorite genre. ''Evil Dead II'', ''Army of Darkness'' and ''From Dusk Till Dawn'' are my favorites.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake (2003) is pretty amazing! R. Lee Ermey steals the show
Your Horror collection has range and quality. I know that you only buy blu-rays for films you think that you will be watching again but in case you have not seen it , "The Exorcist" is considered the Granddaddy (in a good way) of the horror genre by many and one like "Citizen Kane" (this one in a more generic wider sense) a feature that you have to watch at least once to check what is all the fuzz about even if after watching it , you actually did not like it . Now, a probably an "Horror Hidden Gem" for you might be "Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale" , a Finnish fantasy horror film, check it out 😉
I rewatched the US remake of "The Ring" just last week for the 1st time since the movie came out. It was so much better than I remember, 8/10 (I remember it being "OK").
Are the any blurays you want? I have a lot of extra copies
Thats such a great collection, got some good movie recommendations
The VVITCH and Crimson Peaks were really good horror movies that were wonderfully atmospheric . The Company of Wolves was another horror movie that many did not like as it was an unconventional werewolf movie. Let the Right One In was great as well. Swedish is such a beautiful language.
You need to watch In The Mouth Of Madness & Event Horizon!! Also, anything by Clive Barker (Hellraiser 1,2,&4, Nightbreed, Candyman, Midnight Meat Train, etc...)
MadMan 1976 yes!!!
You should own Grindhouse 2007, Suspiria 1977, Basket Case, Re-Animator and Argento & Bava's Demons 1&2. Highly recommend you get those
I'm so jealous of that Oldboy Blu Ray w/ the gorgeous slipcover!! Great collection! 👍
If you're region B/region free Arrow Video have just released a new restoration (with slipcover)
Alien is better than Aliens, in my opinion. Setting and the whole sense of mystery and something unknown in a deep space is quite suspenseful. Aliens is a great movie though but more on the sci-fi action shooter side and Ripley hanging against the vacuum of space with the alien queen attached was really far fetched, pretty strong elbow joint I guess. Prometheus is a great movie as well.
You mentioned one of my most favorite film which I watched in theater when I was in college and that is, "The Fly". The great movie of all time. You mostly mentioned the originals and I do believe they are the best not the remakes.
The Sixth Sense is always a special movie to me. I hope you have it in your collection too.
You know, I actually meant to buy it the other day and totally forgot. Thanks for reminding me!
Great collection! Crimson Peak and 28 Days Later were good picks that I don’t see talked about often, thanks for reminding me about them! Gonna have to buy both now.
Thank you!
I absolutely loved this Marianna! I recently added to my Bluray horror collection today by purchasing Carnival of Souls and Night of the Living Dead from the Criterion Collection, but i also recently bought House and Perfect Blue!
Speaking of Bluray collecting... I have a question. Do you ever feel worried about collecting physical media? I used to have a massive dvd collection and eventually sold most of them when Bluray and streaming came about. But I do still like physical media and sometimes feel guilty for buying them. 😔
Vanessa Laughtland You’re not the only one. Physical media is awesome. Makes me sad that everything - movies, music, books, games - is digital now.
I absolutely LOVE collecting physical media! I'm not a digital person at all, aside from audiobooks - I really enjoy actually being surrounded by things I love. Hell, we even bought a record player recently, so now I also am slowly building my vinyl collection ))
I like almost all your movies, but I'm really surprised that you did not see suspiria? I do not mean the original of argento, but the reinterpretation of 2018. in my eyes a must see and I think you like it too
Thanks Marianna. Of course many of these I could have guessed from past videos, but again I felt I was just sitting around with a friend looking at some of her favorite videos. My own categorization method is non-alphabetical. That's due mostly to the size of the collection. So what I have done is to divide things by category (horror/historical dramas/crime/puppets/etc) then since horror is such a big category everything is by subject (vampires/demons/freaks/etc) and then historically organized within the subjects. There is also a directors section. I need similar things to be near each other. I've been studying film history for many years, so I've needed a library classification system. Occasionally I've watched yours (and others) collection surveys and thought, hmmm, well maybe? Then I realized the impossibility of it since just doing my haunted house section would take twice as long as the video you just made. So I reserve the unveilings for select friends who get curious when they drop by. Thanks though. I really appreciate the tour. It's less a survey of your collection, than it is a reveal of what motivates your dreams and of course your nightmares.
I like to keep my collection pretty small, movies that I'm confident I'll watch over and over again and/or the ones that really speak to me on some level. I used to have a few directors separated, and I may actually do that again in the future - always reorganizing ))
@@ImpressionBlend Reorganizing is always enjoyable. Yeah I'm such a historian that I do indeed keep films I know may never get watched again. But I never know when I will use even bad films in a lecture or on a TH-cam video. But I suspect that you are more of a connoisseur. Your collection is more like wine, it's only worth keeping you are going to drink it and truly enjoy it. Sante!
You should give Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 another chance. It's definitely more of a parody of the first one, but it's pretty neat as it's directed by the same dude (Tobe Hooper) and it has some classic characters of the genre. A quirky cult/horror-comedy. Nonetheless, awesome video and amazing collection!
you do have the shining, thank god
LOL of course
I definitely recommend rewatching Mulholland Drive! Every time I've gone back to it I've been able to get something new out of it as well as notice details I'd missed before. It's that kind of movie. Also, if you love Mulholland, I recommend checking out the other two movies Lynch has done in this vein. Lost Highway is very similar in the main idea but a bit darker and rougher around the edges. Inland Empire is probably the most nightmarish and immersive of the three (although I don't know if these are the kind of worlds you want to get immersed in lol) but doesn't have as much of a narrative (yeah....).
I'm not going to lie, Lynch kind of intimidates me a bit, but I am fascinated by his work at the same time. Of course, I will be watching "Mulholland Dr." again, more than once!
I LOVE I Saw The Devil. So many thrills and great action as well
I would highly recommend other Asian thrillers like Cure, Memories of Murder, Audition, Dumplings, Burning and Kotoko
I also love Braindead by Peter Jackson
Check out The Descent and Rec, two of my favorite horror films
Love both of them!
@@ImpressionBlend Do you know Sleep Tight (Mientras duermes) by th director of REC? Great thriller!
Ravenous starring Guy Pierce a very good psychological horror thriller, Truth or Dare very enjoyable and modern Horror movie, Tucker and Dale versus Evil, Babadook, Child's Play 1
The Crow! I'm such a fan. An autographed copy at that. I'm jealous. I like you, but I'm jealous. 😄
Haha I got lucky at Chicago Comic-Con a few years ago
Jacob's Ladder...Tim Robbins
The Devils...1971 Ken Russel
Both incredible !!!!!
FANTASY @ HORROR 2 MAXX
Great list!! There are so many that I want to watch, but for some of them, like Rosemary's Baby, I want to read the book first! And omg Prisoners is so good, it was so disturbing and heartbreaking at the same time! It really makes me want to rewatch it soon ❤️☺️
The Descent, Identity , the others , and the mothman prophecies are all must owns, in my opinion :) great video!
LOVE "The Descent", have definitely considered adding it to my collection. Haven't seen "Identity" since watching it in theatres, would be interesting to rewatch it now. I do appreciate "The Others" as well, but it's never been a favorite for me. Haven't seen "The Mothman Prophecies" though ))
That guest is a very underrated film. I was hoping for a sequel
Great collection! Scream, Beetlejuice, Silence of Lambs, Zomieland, and The Shining. All classics Christmas collection next lol
To be honest, all of my Christmas must-watch movies were in my "most watched" video lol I think I'll do a sci-fi collection next in a few months
@@ImpressionBlendYeah do that!!
There's SO MUCH to discuss!!! Okay, first of all Let The Right One In and the Millennium Trilogy are GREAT, and the remakes were unable to capture any of the magic in those stories, characters and performances. Noomi Rapace created Lisbeth's look using her husband's clothes, amongst other things. She's AMAZING. If you want to see her in something quite unsettling/annoying watch Daisy Diamond. As for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the remake is actually pretty good. It's more graphic and I agree when people said it kind of needed to be because of the era it came out. Its greatest strength though is that it was shot by the same cinematographer of the original which is awesome. In that vein I'd recommend Martyrs which is french, like Raw, so there's that. Thinking about Green Room and the fact that you love character driven stories I'd suggest to watch the canadian cult classic CUBE, you won't regret it. Finally, the original Ring is great but it has a weak leading actress, kind of the opposite with the American version where the husband it's just so meh and Naomi Watts kills it.
Thank you for giving us our dose of virtual candy and Happy Halloween 🎃!!!
If you liked I Saw The Devil then you have to check out The Chaser. A movie from Hong-jin Na who also directed The Wailing
I appreciate the fact that both James & Marianna both consider Jurassic park to be somewhat horror.
I mean... it's kind of a monster movie, isn't it??
@@ImpressionBlend Of course. Dinosaurs ripping people apart, especially those who hide in toilets.
I’m one of two, maybe three people in the world who hasn’t seen any JP movies precisely because I consider it “horror movie that I can potentially see happening in real life”. I’m filing it in the same category as pandemic and natural disaster movies. Can’t watch those. They will mess with my mind and my dreams. I can deal with most of the other horror genres cause I can convince myself that it’s not real. 😂
Mulholland Drive is easily classified: David Lynch - that's it.
Surprised not to see Halloween (original), The Exorcist, or Jaws.
Please do a updated blu - ray collection video
You truly murdered your drawer apart😱
I REALLY enjoyed Zombieland Double Tap. Arguably as fun as the original, but still a decent sequel. A bit surprised you don't own Jordan Peele's Us, Halloween (2018), or Ari Aster's Midsommar. amoung recent hit horrors. I'm excited to own scary stories in the dark, even though you didn't say you loved it. It's still spooky fun.
I really hope your Halloween is a memorable one⚰️🎃🕸️
P.S. You may have given away your age. Revealing being around during Jurassic parks release. Your 31! Or it's an awful guess😂
If you're intending on adding any Criterion movies to your collection during next month's Barnes & Noble sale their Night Of The Living Dead blu ray is pretty cool. They do have some interesting horror-ish movies in their library. Along with the ones you have, I love Don't Look Now, Personal Shopper and The Innocents. You've got a pretty amazing collection.
Thank you! I have a list going of Criterions I want to buy that I refer to every sale. However, they're releasing 2 amazing films that I absolutely HAVE to get during the upcoming sale "Cold War" and "All About Eve", so we'll see if I even get anything else this time.
@@ImpressionBlend Cold War is top of my list. I wish it were already out now.
I love that you collect so many movies!
The most recent "Thing" was a prequel. :)
Masters of horror, there is a collection of 13 movies from the 1st season in vídeo. I would recomend the first of them: "Cigarette Burns" by John Carpenter
The Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection is a solid choice for a Christmas purchase. :)
More Hitchcock needs to happen, for sure ))
Great list! Have you seen the 1988 Dutch film The Vanishing? So disturbing!
I haven't, will have to add it to my watchlist!
Nice collection!! Here's a few gems from mine. Slither, 30 Days of Night, Overlord, The Crazies (2010), Trick 'R Treat, Ginger Snaps, The People Under the Stairs, John Carpenter's Vampires, John Carpenter's In the Mouth of Madness
.
Thanks for reminding me about The People Under The Stairs. I watched it as a child and loved it and then forgot about it. it's second in the Q after I download The Devil's Backbone
It's the closing hours of Halloween in Australia. Today, I went to see Joker, got two cups of chocolate popcorn, then found two rare AC/DC albums & a Pop! Fly Boy Bart.
Awesome list! If you haven't seen them check out The Host by Bong Joon Ho, Session 9, Joshua, It Follows, Don't Breathe, and A Dark Song, some underrated horror gems I like 🙂
Wow so many films you only watched a few years ago. Im 38 and grew up watching Beetlejuice soooo many times. And I will never forget seeing Blair Witch in the theater and it scared the living hell out of me and the entire theater as well
I catch up when I can, but since I didn't grow up in the US there are quite a few movies that I missed just because they weren't as popular when I was a kid/teen.
my favorite absolute shining , rosemary's baby , the thing , the night of the living dead 1968 , psycho , an american werewolf of london , misery , the fly , deep red dario Argento , the wicker man , the exorcist , suspiria Dario Argento , Carrie , blow out , dressed to kill , the birds
if you haven't seen it already 'The King' on Netflix was surprisingly good. you seem like a person who might appreciate it
Hatchet is a great film with a few horror icons, like Robert Englund, Kane Hodder and Tony Todd, talking of Tony Todd, Candyman, you must get this and for a comedy horror look no further than Tucker and Dale vs Evil
What a great collection ! Thriller is my second favorite movie genre (after Epics like Gladiator, The Last Samurai, Braveheart, Ben Hur etc). Some of my favorite movies are there :) Silence of The Lambs and Se7en are on my top 10 of all time. Mulholland Drive is also an awesome film, the best by Lynch imo. Do you like L.A. Confidential ? One of the best but kinda underrated thrillers out there imo.
As for horror not my cup of tea XD But Rosemary Baby and The VVitch are both fantastic, you just can't deny that
1: You have great taste in films. 2: You need more subscribers, as I love your informal breezy, yet informed, style. 3: Subscribed
Aww thank you so much! Welcome to my channel ))
@@ImpressionBlend You're welcome. Just watched your "Confessions of a Film Lover" vid. Agreed with a lot of your choices, especially Anchorman. And "Carol", which I found interminable - have you ever seen "Brief Encounter"? "Carol" was basically a massive ripoff of it, but nowhere near as good. If you haven't, check it out, it's wonderful.
we have opposite tastes on let the right one in/et me in and the dragon tattoo films :P and I love all of them in book form too
Rooney Mara was fantastic, and I prefer the American let me in too.
I love it :) You own some of the best Criterion horror movies. I have made it a goal to own every Criterion horror movie in the collection, and I am only missing a couple as it currently stands. I would highly recommend Diabolique (1955), since you liked Eyes Without a Face I think you will enjoy it.
#PrayForMariannasComputer
Guillermo del Toro is one filmmaker that i want to get into once i start to properly get into films, his movies seem really interesting.
To note i have seen Chronicle ans Cloverfield before. Warm Bodies haven't seen the movie but i have read the book and i really liked it. One of my favorite reads of 2016
What about Mike Flanagan's Occulus, Absentia?
Haven't seen "Absentia", but I did like "Oculus", very creepy movie. Not something I can see myself watching multiple time though, so that's why I don't own it.
My suggestions - The Reflecting Skin (1990), Don't Look Now (1973), Candyman (1992), Peeping Tom (1960), Angel Heart (1987), Cronos (1993), Boys in the Trees (2016), Les diaboliques (1955), Black Christmas (1974), Deep Red (1975), Jacob's Ladder (1990), The House of the Devil (2009).
What? No The Exorcist?
Not a film I rewatch often.
Angel Heart is a must if you haven't seen it.
I don't think I've actually heard of it, thanks for the recommendation!
@ NWO COLLAPSE Yes, definitely! It's a great film.
@@ImpressionBlend I also highly recommend it. It's an intense film and its narrative structure also inspired Christopher Nolan's film Memento and he has cited it as the main inspiration for it.
Have you seen the Dutch movie Spoorloos (The Vanishing) from 1988. I think it's a good thriller/horror film and i think you might like it :)
I'm surprised to see this mentioned. That's a great film, serious, interesting, but also quite heavy (psychologically).
Looking at my film shelf. If you like Hereditary, the you will probably like The Babadook. At the same time give The Wind a go.
Again, if you love Black Swan, give Perfect Blue a go.
My fave korean thriller with gory scenes is The Chaser. Another Korean, Tale of Two Sisters.
Amazing atmosphere mystical film, not sure where to classify it. A Dark Song.
Comedy Horor type, Drag Me to Hell, so freaking insane.
Frailty deserves a mention.
Get Out and US by Jordan Peel.
Hard Candy hasn't been seen by many, I think it deserves more looks.
I rewatch The Mist quite often.
Oculus! I love that movie. Pyewacket of more curse awesomeness. Trick r Treat for a good popcorn night. Tucker vs Dale for red neck horror comedy.
The 2011 "The Thing" is actually a prequel. Also, unpopular opinion, but i would recommend the Michael Bay TCM remake and especially the underrated TCM: The Beginning. Most people hate it, but i love it. The Zombieland sequel was actually better than the first one, in my opinion.
I watch my BluRay movies also on my PS4 :D ..and I m glad that the console has this feature (to run both games and movies). When I get the next PS5 thats the time when I will upgrade to some 4Ks too 😂
I just had to comment: Marianna, you look glorious.
5:39 I am surprised you didn't hammer on Dan Stevens' performance in The Guest. He pretty much carries the entire movie.
7:59 I am rather glad you like Prometheus. For a while, it seemed only me and Chris Stuckmann liked that movie. Of course the movie has problems more numerous than all the moons of Saturn but it is rather heartwarming to find someone who doesn't crap all over it every time.
Something for your collection: Arachnophobia. I fucking hate spiders.
The Descent (2005) is a masterpiece!
Creep is my favorite found footage. Actually, it's one of my favorite film period. I'm not a fan of the FF genre but Creep is way up there with Blair Witch Project and Rec.
quick question...have you done any modeling before? you resemble kate moss in a way lol
I recommend some older movies. Vincent Price played in some classics. For a thriller, I recommend "Leave Her To Heaven." Gene Tierney plays a beautiful women obsessed with her husband. Vincent Price plays a prosecutor, and her ex-boyfriend. For a horror comedy, I recommend "The Abominable Doctor Phibes." He plays an evil genius getting revenge on those who failed to save the life of his wife.
Thank you for the suggestions!
thank you for the recommendation. i will check out the movie "the guest".
Hard Candy , Thelma, Neon Demon(shocking to me that i actually like it), Suspiria 2018, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, The House with a Clock in Its Walls (Cate & Jack combo was surprisingly delightful)
Damn. Nice taste, you convinced me to give The House with a Clock I'm it's Walls a go now. 👍
Really liked or loved all of these, except for "The House with a Clock in Its Walls" which I haven't seen )) Will check it out!
If your a horror fan check out the thing (1982) it’s filled up with some of the best practical effects of all time
Look out for the new 4k restoration of dawn of the dead 1978 coming from second sight in February 20/20
Also, if you want another found footage film to watch, check out Noroi (2005). I think it's great.
Actually watched it in October, and that ending was INSANE!!
You have good taste.
Now that's what I call a collection👍
If you ever get a chance please check out me and my husband's movie review channel. We're new and constructive criticism is appreciated especially from someone like you. Thanks in advance 👍
My friend just watched Zombieland 2 the other day and said he really enjoyed it! Great video. I was wondering what are your thoughts on Halloween (1978)?
ONIBABA ! Criterion
I just started watching this video so I'll put it out now. Se7en!
YES!
Well, then, waiting for The Witch................Yessssss!
Couldn't have this video without "The VVitch" :D
ARE YOU SCARLETT JOHANSSON'S SISTER?
Thought for sure I’d see The Howling in there.
Did you ever see a French horror called Switchblade Romance?
Wow nice collection although I buy Blu Ray box sets as much as possible which is why I ended up with all Alien films, all Saw films and all final destination films. I know there's a few cringy films in the collection but the cost of the box set can work out cheaper than buying single discs.
Thank you! Yea, this is kind of why I don't buy box sets - I really don't like things I'm not going to use taking up space lol Usually, the prices for single discs aren't a problem either because there's always some kind of sale going on, and if not - I just wait until there is one.
Hello James here and a new subscriber to your channel and love your videos and reviews. I am a huge horror movie freak with tons of blu rays and love to find people like yourself who is into the same genre as me. Please keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! Welcome to my channel ))
Frailty (2001) from Bill Paxton awesome underrated thriller
Have you seen An American Werewolf In London? The first horror film I ever saw (at the tender age of five) and still a huge favourite of mine. Also, there is a great film from the 70s called The Sentinel that I think gets slept on far too much. :)
Surprisingly, I somehow haven't seen "An American Werewolf In London", not sure how that happened.
May I suggest, Only Lovers Left Alive, by Jim Jarmusch, for you viewing please.
If you wanna see the original The Ring Arrow Video have released it in the US :)
I'll have to get my hands on it!
Please make a video for your favorite War/Army movies
Properly going to watch either Manhunter or 2019's Child's Play this Halloween.
Sounds like a plan!
