This is amazing! I've been following your channel for so many years I always thought it was unfair that you had so few subscribers considering the high-quality content you produce. Congratulations!
Congratulations! 🥂 *We’re* the lucky ones who have watched this channel grow. You are a very friendly presenter with insightful opinions, and you have a passion for films & novels that can’t be faked. You deserve 500,000! 🎉
I think a series of videos going back year by year (as far as you think you're experienced enough in, at least) and naming the films you consider all time masterpieces for that year would be cool.
Possibly the only other person I’ve ever heard reference Night Film. Read about that novel before it came out, grabbed an advanced copy, and was blown away-she nailed the ending! Would actually like to see Fincher do an adaptation; I know that’s an obvious choice but there’s parts that just fit so well within his wheelhouse.
Congrats on the 50K!!! This is the channel I come to when I don't know what movie to watch and you always have great recommedations. Yes! Nightwish! If you're interested in a band with some horror, horror/comedy lyrics and imagery I recommend Powerwolf. Lots of fun. Totally agree on Villeneuve and I am Legend. Also, Frankenstein. The world needs an adaptation of Frankenstein that stays true to the heart-wrenching beauty of that book.
50k woooo! You’re one of my favorite people reviewing films, tv and books on the internet and I’m excited to be along for wherever this ride goes. For the Russian cinema and literature question, maybe a way to do that video is to start with some brief historical/personal context, then dive into top 10 lists for films/books.
Congrats! I love the cover of Amadeus, too - those colors and ratios get me every time. I also cannot wrap my head around how Jake Gyllenhaal did not even get nominated for his performance in Nightcrawler. From Russian literature, I would be really interested in your favorite classics - especially to check if what is considered a classic in Russia is considered a classic here in Hungary, too, as our literature education is really Europe-based and we learnt a lot about Russian literature.
I actually remember finding you thanks to your game of thrones recaps! And since then you have continued to make awesome content on TH-cam! One of my favorite channels and can’t wait for your house of the dragon recaps.
I found this channel a few days ago and became one of my favorite channels on youtube There are lots of channel talking about films but what makes this channel so special to me is that The way you talk doesn't feel over-Acted. I love your video about David Fincher's Filmography I'm waiting for another directors' Filmography
In my opinion, hands down the best horror films without gore have to be The Haunting (1963) and The Innocents (1961). Two of the creepiest movies I’ve ever seen
The 60's had some great horror movies in black and white. The two you mentioned are among my favorites as are Black Sunday with Barbara Steele and the original Carnival of Souls.
woah! I've followed your account for quite sometime, and from an old Q&A I always got the impressional you don't listen to almost any commercial music because you were classically trained musically! I specifically remember you definitely saying you don't understand the concept of background noise, which I found fascinating. It' so cool to learn that you listen to metal though, I never would've guessed :)
First of all, thank you for sticking around )) second, I STILL don’t understand background noise/music. Maybe this is part of why I like metal - you can’t put that as background, it demands attention hehe
Many thanks for the video, and congratulations on reaching 50k. I just had to comment to whole-heartedly agree that Jake Gyllenhaal should 100% have won the Oscar for Nightcrawler. He was robbed!!!
I took a class in 19th century Russian literature and 2/3rd's of it was Dostoyevsky although we did cover Tolstoy, Chekhov, Gogol, Pushkin and Turgenev. Gogol's short stories and Turgenev's Father's and Sons were among my favorites but I also loved Dostoyevsky's novels as well (The Possessed, Bros Karamazov and Crime and P)
Congratulations on your number of subscribers. I think you should at least have twice as many. Spielberg said something to the effect that really good movies come from readers, because they understand narrative. Your love for the written word is obvious, and your appreciation for quality story telling is so much appreciated. Even in things I disagree with (I could write an essay on the original Halloween and how it was many people's first experience with Lovecraftian dread), I very much enjoy your intelligence on books and movies. Keep doing what you're doing!
I came across this channel by accident and let me tell you that you are one of my new favourites. I live for the sci-fi and Tarkovsky love and the "no guilt" atitude about the so called guilty pleasure movies 🤍 I'm here to stay girl!!
congratulations, Marianna!! so cool to see how your channel has grown over the years :) and of course super thankful for all the stellar movie recs you've given.
YEEEEEEEEEES!!! Congrats Marianna!!! Films are Art. There are grate films and then there are some. Haven't read War and Peace by Leb Tolstoy. I love Anna Karenina. Gonna get the Dune book for Christmas!!!
Hi Marianna! Congrats on the 50k+ subscribers!!!! Have you ever heard of a fairly new band, Spiritbox? I'm not the biggest fan of metalcore either, but Spiritbox is not your typical metalcore band.
Why are you so surprised you have 50k subscribers? You are a joy to watch and so, so cool and your videos are top quality. I love your channel, and you deserve millions to know about it. But yes, congrats!
Great video Marianna and congratulations on 50K. Have you ever thought about doing podcasts about movies and books? You have a really nice, ear catching voice that would suit that kind of media. I would definitely listen to it 😊
Thank you! I briefly considered it, but then this is what I do on my channel anyways, so I feel like it would just be doubling up the same thing. I'm all for being a guest on other people's podcasts though ))
My my, I've been around since 2016. I think its when you were talking about either Fantastic Beast or La La Land. I can't remember but it has been an amazing journey. Congrats, Marianna on the 50k. *Guilty pleasures doesn't exist to me. You either like it or you don't.
With Russian literature and Russian films: yeah, understand about the breadth in both! Something like your top 5 or 5ish - no matter the period or the genre. Because I appreciate your point of view and your selections of "American' books and literature, that makes me interested in your point of view on Russian. Yah, so, your top five or so of each would be fascinating to learn about! Thank you for asking! And, congratulations!
Congratulations on 50k 💪💪💪 been subbed since 8k or so. Don't always comment, but dropped likes all the time. Some of the best taste in media on youtube.
Congratulations, Marianna! 🎉Love your content. I'd also like to see some Russian content, perhaps it would be cool if you could do Russian sci-fi books and movies recommendations, since that's your favorite genre. 😉
If someone would ask me What was the most influential book i have read? I would have a few different answers. While the Gone series did develop my taste and appreciation of YA and it's unique charm it has on me, i would say The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman and I Am Not A Serial Killer by Dan Wells were way more influential on me. The Walking Dead filtered my taste for post apocalyptic stories as well as more heavier life or death situations in stories while I Am Not A Serial Killer created my love for darker stories with morally grey characters and all have influenced what kind of writer I want to be (Although the range of stories I come up with is alot more varied)
Congratulations! As a follow-up for the animation question.. Allow me to suggest watching Mushishi I feel since you like slow meditative works and you like Princess Mononoke it would be right up your ally.. It's a 50 episode series but it's all episodic stand-alone stories so you really just need to give the 1st episode or maybe 3 a chance and you will know if you like it or not.
Hi Marianna! A Russian subscriber here :) It would be really interesting to hear your opinion and thoughts on two recent big projects of Russian cinema - Major Grom movie (which is on Netflix with subtitles so English-speaking audience will be able to follow along) and mini TV series "Топи" (not sure if it's dubbed or has subtitles but anyway). Would also love to watch your in-depth reviews of Tarkovsky movies!
Super curious about "Major Grom" - I've heard such a wide range of opinions about it from Russian TH-camrs that I just have to find out for myself. "Topi" definitely sounds like my kind of thing, been looking forward to watching it. Unfortunately, neither of them are out in the US yet :( Hopefully, they'll show up on Netflix soon!
I used to like the I Am Legend movie. Then I read the book. They removed the coolest part of the whole thing. The ending still gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. 🦇 P.S I still think Will Smith did an amazing job with what he had to work with. And it's an okay film but I would love an more faithful adaption of it. Weird fact about I am legend and to add to the confusion the original Swedish translation was called "Varulvarnas Natt" (Night of the Werewolves) and they apparently change a lot in it. We did get a proper translation in 2010 (!) simply called "Legend".
I suggest you start with Russian Cinema. Maybe in chronological order? (you can do this as a serie). Russian Litreature (books) is extremely vast with way too many giants, but also more known and famous. Russian movies are much less known.
Congratulations Marianna! A huge fan of your channel! I don’t often comment enough here but I basically instaclicked whenever I see you uploaded your videos!
I've been so busy lately that I hadn't seen this video, and you answered my question at 11:33 😍🤩 I was curious about your choices and now I'm intrigued, specially by FOE and Kill Creek. Thank you for this, and I cannot wait for your next milestone 🔥
Totally agree about "Nightcrawler," one of the best movies of the last 20 years. I thought Jake, Renee Russo and Riz Ahmed all should have been in the running for Oscars, as well as nods for Best Picture and Director (at least Dan Gilroy was nominated for his fantastic original screenplay). So glad the movie got more love by the critics award groups, at least.
Congratulations, Marianna! I'm rereading The Master and Margarita as well. I'm sure I'll appreciate it even more this time. After I finish I'll probably go back to reading some true magic realism or Murakami or Italo Calvino. I hope I can really get into that mood. Oh yeah and get this. I don't read fantasy, but after your recommendation of The First Law I decided to give it a try. Turns out I devoured the first two books in no-time. To be fair the plot of Before They Are Hanged doesn't make much sense to me, but it's not about the plot anyway. And it leads the characters to the final battle, so... Can't wait for that. p.s. Did you check out The Book of The New Sun by Gene Wolfe, does it interest you?
A very big congrats to you Marianna! I've been following your channel for I think a couple years now, and greatly value your opinion on all things film and book. I also love that your favorite book is The Master and Margarita, and that you're currently re-reading it ^_^ at the moment I'm on my first read through it, and am absolutely loving it. I haven't had much exposure to Russian literature outside of Dostoevsky, but an older Russian lady I met during an internship a while back told me to check out that novel, as well as the works of Bunin and Turgenev. Do you have any others that you'd recommend? :D on an unrelated note, have you ever seek Dekalog? I've been told it's a must-watch collection.
Congrats on 50k! Have you thought about translating your videos?? I'd love to work with you and make your content more accesible to other countries so you can keep growing!
Marianna, you deserve more subscribers! 😇👍🏻 Everything about your video (including you, your way of articulating) is just amazing. Top notched! 🙌🏼😇 Congrats and wish you best of the best luck! 🎉👍🏻🤘🏻😇 I’m your number one fan. No...not like her. I don’t hit. 😀😀 again, best wishes from heart ❤️ 😊
I mean, that's what I was talking about with everyone having their own level of "acceptable gore". That scene is definitely very disturbing, but it's the implications that make it scary - you don't actually SEE anything being cut off.
@@ImpressionBlend Yeah I guess not. Maybe most of it is in my imagination. I remember it though. If you’ve not seen it yet, you should check out The Strain TV show from Guillermo Del Toro on Hulu. It’s got tons of gore. Pretty underrated. 😊
Marianna I think what makes your channel work so well is that there is always a very personal touch. Whether answering comments or just giving your views I always getting the feeling that we're just having a conversation and I don't feel the presence of the other 49,999 folks . You definitely attract respectful and thoughtful subscribers. Congratulations on your worthy numerical conquest! How about an introduction to Russian Cinema and another for literature? Living in Georgia now I'm slowly becoming aware of just how many Russian films that were made that never made it West. Explain that sort of thing too. (Russian comedies almost never go west.)
That’s why I respect Brad Pitt and DeCaprio for not getting involved in superhero nonsense. Can’t wait for it to die off and decent films are the main staple in cinemas
Did you read Master and Margarita in Russian? Just wondering if you had any preferences or opinions on the English translations. (Also congrats again on the 50k subs!)
Congratulations Mariana 🎆 I always get amazing Sci-fi movies recommends from your channel. That reminds me, what do you think of Predestination? I hope you will make a tier-ranking videos of movies which you personally consider to be mindfucks.
I want to see a redo of Pet Semetary, or a re-redo. It deserves better. Maybe by Guillermo del Toro. And starring Michael C. Hall. Audiobook fabs know why!
So I saw that movie that you recommended Oxygen and I thought it was pretty good. I watched it last Friday, I didn't really think I would like a movie that's based in just one location. I kind of wanted to see what happened when they got on the new planet and how they colonized it. Also I totally agree with you. I am so sick of superhero movies, talk about a genre that's ran it's course.
Yeah picking THE favorite film, show, song, artist, album, book, etc, is impossible for me. I can give you like a top 10 or 20, and the number one spot will vary depending on my current mood and the like.
I would love a video on why Tarkovsky is one of the best directors in world cinema and how his films influenced recent filmmakers today.
That’d be awesome 😎
Congrats, Marianna! Yours is one of my very favorite movie channels.
Aww thank you))
This is amazing! I've been following your channel for so many years I always thought it was unfair that you had so few subscribers considering the high-quality content you produce. Congratulations!
Thank you so much!
Please do a video on ‘audiobooks’ suggestions. Please. ❤️
Yes!
Congratulations! 🥂

Thank you so much)))
Congrats on 50k! Completely agree with you on Gyllenhaal, he absolutely should have been nominated for Nightcrawler. He was incredible.
Huge milestone!! Congrats on your hard work paying off! Hopefully that TH-cam algorithm boosts you to 100k next
Congratulations, Marianna!!! 50k! That's impressive! I am also very much looking forward to an amazing First Law trilogy TV series adaptation!
Thank you, Petrik! Yes, please, can they get on that adaptation already? I don't know why they're dropping the ball.
I think a series of videos going back year by year (as far as you think you're experienced enough in, at least) and naming the films you consider all time masterpieces for that year would be cool.

Love Actually and the Holiday!!!! They are our family holiday movies. Kids all grown up and they still watch them still.
Congrats on the 50K!!! This is the channel I come to when I don't know what movie to watch and you always have great recommedations.

The animation question--

You: Slams down the Vampire Hunter D card.

Your channel is pure quality, so congratulations on 50K, M.! Well deserved.
Thank you so much!

Thank you so much, girl!!!
Hello Marianna fantastic video here loved it. Also congratulations on getting to 50k. The milestone and praise is much deserved.😃👍
This is my new favorite channel since I found you two months ago. And I'm with you, Repo is bad I was forcing myself to finish it
Yaassssss!!! Congrats!
Thank you!!! Love your channel!
Love Actually is FANTASTIC! Great soundtrack also 😌
Congratulations on hitting 50k!
Thank you, Matt!!
Hi Marianna! Congrats on the 50k+ subscribers!!!!
Have you ever heard of a fairly new band, Spiritbox? I'm not the biggest fan of metalcore either, but Spiritbox is not your typical metalcore band.
Massive congratulations Marianna! Started watching you for book recommendation, stayed for amazing movie taste. Keep up the great work
Thank you so much! Glad you decided to stay))
Congrats. Love your channel. Here’s to many, many more.
Mortician are a bit heavy, but they’re a decent metal band who use a lot of horror film dialogue samples in their music.
Congratulations on 50K, Marianna, love you
Ice nine kills is creative. You might like the band between the buried and me
congrats Marianna! well deserved. i found you through one of my besties Steph Cozza and haven’t missed a video since 👏🏼

I share your love for The Ring trilogy both film and book.
My my, I've been around since 2016. I think its when you were talking about either Fantastic Beast or La La Land. I can't remember but it has been an amazing journey. Congrats, Marianna on the 50k.
*Guilty pleasures doesn't exist to me. You either like it or you don't.
I'm glad you've been here all this time! And yes, guilty pleasures are such a strange concept - just let people enjoy whatever they enjoy ))
You deserve at least one million subs.
The only superhero/cape movie i could watch anytime is the Watchmen movie.
Congratulations on 50K, that's amazing!

Aww hi! Glad you decided to comment, and thank you for sticking around!
Eddie Vedder Pearl Jam-nothing sexier than Eddie Vedder and what a showman he was back in the day. Climbing and swinging from rafters while preforming
Great, it's well deserved. Here's to the next milestone!.

Great mix and honesty::) Sticking to your guns👍 no need to apologise for what we like.
I couldn't even narrow a favourite down to three.... there are too many movies, to be able to narrow down which I love the most.

Congrats on 50k!
Have you thought about translating your videos?? I'd love to work with you and make your content more accesible to other countries so you can keep growing!
10:54 I think, in its own way, The Ring is full of Gore. Same with the Pirates movies, Lone Ranger, etc.
LOL I see what you did there ;)
You are an awesome person Mariana. Wishing you all the best for the future.
Thank you!
Love Actually is my favourite too.
Have you seen the Twitter thread about this one writer talking about Alien not being horror and that horror cannot take place in space?
Looked through your letterboxd. Have you seen The Artist? Its on netflix
Congratulations 🍾🎊
This is one of your best video 👌🏾

@@ImpressionBlend Yeah I guess not. Maybe most of it is in my imagination. I remember it though. If you’ve not seen it yet, you should check out The Strain TV show from Guillermo Del Toro on Hulu. It’s got tons of gore. Pretty underrated. 😊
I saw Alien in the theatre. I walked out in the middle of the movie cause I was so scared. I was 9 at the time.
Hello Marianna!
Congratulations and I wish you many more successes. Greetings from Colombia! 🇨🇴
Thank you so much!
Congratulations Marianna!
Congratulations Marianna!!!... Greetings from Argentina.
Thank you!
Hey! sorry, I don't have an Instagram account.
Here's my question.
Do you have a favorite horror game?
Or you're not into videogames?
I don't really play enough video games to pick favorites, to be honest.
Congratulations!!! Marianna
Congratulations Mariana 🎆 I always get amazing Sci-fi movies recommends from your channel. That reminds me, what do you think of Predestination? I hope you will make a tier-ranking videos of movies which you personally consider to be mindfucks.
that movie is so good and underrated :O on the topic of mindfucks (I think it applies at least), have you seen The Endless?
I really liked Synchronic so The endless has definitely been on my radar.
Congrats! My favorite TH-cam channel! 💚 Wishing you all the success in the universe.
Please, please, PLEASE watch the German film Mostly Martha! 😁
My two favorites are Jurassic Park and Inception. Glad you mentioned JP!
For anime, try the film Nausicaa!
I want to see a redo of Pet Semetary, or a re-redo. It deserves better. Maybe by Guillermo del Toro. And starring Michael C. Hall. Audiobook fabs know why!
Funny you mentioned Cormac McCarthy, for me The Road is the closest to my imagination adaptation I've read and seen.
Mariana, did you first read The Count of Monte Cristo in English or Russian?
So I saw that movie that you recommended Oxygen and I thought it was pretty good. I watched it last Friday, I didn't really think I would like a movie that's based in just one location.
I kind of wanted to see what happened when they got on the new planet and how they colonized it.
Also I totally agree with you. I am so sick of superhero movies, talk about a genre that's ran it's course.
Yeah picking THE favorite film, show, song, artist, album, book, etc, is impossible for me. I can give you like a top 10 or 20, and the number one spot will vary depending on my current mood and the like.
