I was so thinking that you would include this little sci fic gem directed by Jeff Nichols but somehow you didn’t mention it.... MIDNIGHT SPECIAL starring the always dependable Michael Shannon and Joel Edgerton. This is the first film which convinced me that Adam Driver can act. But the real star of the show really is Jaeden Lieberher (now known as Jaeden Martell), I find him very magnetic in this film. I really like the pacing of the movie, revealing enough to constantly keep the audience guessing and yet not so much to spoil the surprise in the later part of the movie. I also love the treatment of the father son relationship ... many people have issues with the ending, not me. It was one of my guilty pleasures in year 2016.
Another blu ray title which I hope should be in your possession... somehow I am quite sure you have watched it. JJ Abrams’ SUPER 8. It is essentially the updated homage paying version of E.T. Watching it in the theatre did feel like I was being transported to the 80s, the era I grew up with. The chemistry of the two leads, the camaraderie between the kids was cool to watch.... the same reason why I liked IT Chapert One and STRANGER THINGS.
Great video as always, Mariana! You're looking beautiful as always and I always enjoy the videos with you wearing your dark red lipstick! 💄👄 That looks great on you!😍😘
This video was a treat to behold and reminded me of a handful of movies I want to watch during stay-at-home orders. Movies, TV, and books are some fo the things getting me through 2020 right now. Thanks and see you on the next video.
Excellent list and very well presented. I really enjoyed the passion and love you showed in making this video. I actually shared your opinion in all the films except in two because I have not seen yet lol. Now from your list, let me single out "Gattaca" because it is an excellent sci-fi movie which seems underappreciated as you mentioned . Keep doing a great job and you just gained a new subscriber!
It's great to find other people who also love Villeneuve, Bong, Nolan, Johnson - I have a feeling there are not that many of us in the wild. Your videos are a movie buff's delight, thanks. That being said - where's Edge of Tomorrow?! Can't for the life of me list the top 5, but personal favorite is The Matrix.
Some great choices in there. You made me think about my collection. I like the idea of "if you aint going to watch it multiple times then dont buy it". I have a bunch I never watch, but are still great movies.
Amazing collection!! Great to see that you have Children of men (possibly my favorite sci-fi film of all time). The topics of the film are even more relevant nowadays, also love all the symbolism and art imagery. Sadly, I think it is massively underrated. Btw...sorry for my bad english. 😅
My top 5: Stalker, Blade Runner 2049, Interstellar, Annihilation Arrival. Also, The Iron Giant, but that movie played such an intrinsic part in my childhood that it's less a movie and more a part of me as a person lol.
You scared me, I was just preparing to comment that I couldn't believe that you didn't have "Stalker" and "Solaris", but you pulled them out at the end. Well played. My top 5 are probably; Blade Runner 2049, Blade Runner, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Stalker, and either Moon or Brazil.
Great video - I really enjoy your perspective of someone experiencing some of these movies long after their release - it's so different. I'd love to watch you discuss Her. Thank you for doing this!
You have a great sci-fi collection, Mariana! Some other great movies from the genre that I absolutely love are Minority Report, Edge of Tomorrow, RoboCop, Escape From New York, Total Recall, Predator, Dredd, Highlander, Upgrade, Starship Troopers, Back to the Future trilogy and the recent Planet of the Apes trilogy :)
Have you seen Contact (1997)? It's a great science film in my opinion, but it's kind of underrated, I don't see people talking about it. I highly recommend.
I have always liked sci fi but lately I am loving the genre even more. I will have to check out some that you mentioned. A few I have seen recently that I don't think you mentioned are "The Island" which I absolutely loved. Also Contact and Lucy.
Soderbergh's Solaris is also great. Edge of Tomorrow, High Life, Midnight Special, Event Horizon, Sunshine, Slither, Strange Days, The Mist, Under the Skin. You may not want them as blu-ray but all are worth checking out.
I have that same anniversary edition of Blade Runner! It is a thing of beauty. *My Top 5 SF Movies (for today)* Blade Runner The Fly (1986) The Matrix RoboCop (1987) Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan *Honorable Mentions (for today)* Blade Runner 2049 Ex Machina A Scanner Darkly
It's just so nice? Comforting? A pleasure? I feel secure watching your videos. Don't know if that makes sense but, I don't know, it's good to be in your company.

Here's my list of my favorite sci-fi movies of all time: Alien / Aliens Blade Runner / Blade Runner 2049 The Matrix Inception Interstellar 2001: A Space Odyssey Jurassic Park Predator Robocop Minority Report Edge of Tomorrow Terminator / Terminator 2 The Abyss Avatar Star Wars 3,4,5,6,7 and 8 Looper Total Recall (1990) Back to the Future Trilogy Mad Max Quadrology Apollo 13 Species E.T

The biggest surprise to me, unless I missed it, is The Martian not being mentioned. I rewatch that a lot. Some of my favorites are Contact, Close Encounters, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Forbidden Planet, Gravity, Life, Pacific Rim, Planet of the Apes universe, Robocop, Starship Troopers, Sunshine, and War of the Worlds (both versions). I loved every film you mentioned pretty much. Great list.
Five of my favorite Sci-fi movies in no particular order because it's too difficult: Arrival Alien Aliens Empire Strikes Back Terminator 2 And I feel Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind deserves a mention as well because it does have some Sci-fi elements to it.
Predestination, watched it the other night....right after finishing the final season of Succession. I spent the first 15 minutes pulling my hair out trying to think where I'd seen the 'Unmarried Mother' actor from.....only to realize it was Sarah Snook! What!!! She's was great.
"Predestination" was where I saw Sarah Snook for the first time, and I've always wondered why she didn't become a bigger star after that. I'm glad she's finally getting more big roles!
Mad max fury road is one of my favorites in scifi. Its nonstop scifi action that never lets up and found it in the walmart dvd bin for $3.74 about a year and a half ago. Great movie and a keeper!
I literally cannot decide between Inception and BR 2049 as my all time favorite movie. Inception because it's amazing and it's Nolan and and it's what truly got me into movies... and BR 2049 because, I mean, talk about cinematic perfection!
Nice collection! Almost every movie you showed I have as well. I will check out Never Let Me Go. I would recommend The Endless. An independant Sci-Fi Horror.
I am very surprised you didn't mention the Back to Future Trilogy. Is it not your couple of tea? My top five favorite: Arrival, Contact, Back to the Future trilogy, Childen of men, Terminator 2.
@@alencarrafael I see that, but what makes it count as one? Obviously you do not think of the Terminator movies in that way. @@cfbilly70 Maybe my logic doesn't make sense haha, but Back to the ... count as one to me because they are literally as sequel of each other. Each movie can be seen as an independent story of course but the three together also is a very cohesive and complet story, same to LOTR. We don't see this in the Aliens movies for example.
Lol there was coincidentally a bunch of synchronicity with me in this video. I'm currently reading Dune, I just watched The Host for the first time yesterday, and last week I just found my Blu-ray director's of Dark City after losing it a year ago.
Never Let Me Go was a twitter recommendation to me years ago and is one of the most memorable books I have ever read. Gattaca is stunning, I do not understand why it doesn't get more love. I could add so many more: eXistenz, Logan's Run, Planet of the Apes......
Children of men is extraordinary. Never heard of it or the book its based on before I saw it and was blown way by it. It's one of those rare movies that you still discuss with your friends years later.
I remember seeing Mad Max with Friday 13th Double features as they used to be the early '80's in the UK, I had the Mad Max poster above my bed. I also Love Luc Bessons The Fifth Element, I have a Fifth element poster on my fridge. Have you ever seen a creature feature called "Grabbers" it's a wonderful film set in Ireland made in 2012 a horror/comedy which not many films can pull off. Well worth a gander. Can't remember if you said you'd seen Underwater with Kristen Stewart on the big screen, but that's a great tense ride. Only got to see 9 films this year at the cinema until lockdown came. Lets hope theatres survive.
My top 5 off the top of my head: 1) Alien 2) Empire Strikes Back 3) Mad Max: Fury Road 4) The Martian (one of my favorite book & movie combos) 5) GOTG or Blade Runner 2049
I have often contemplated integrating my video, book and music libraries. But that's three different rooms to consider... Thanks for showing how it's done Marianna. Also I think you should have a few older classic, pre 2001, sci-fi classics to round things out. Particularly;y Metropolis, longest version available, maybe The Day the Earth Stood Still (the 1951 version kicks the heck out of the more recent one) and here's a suggestion for you specifically the old Russian silent Aelita Queen of Mars, which is fascinating.
I am a big fan of most of these movies. I would add a pretty underrated, criminally under-viewed one in Edge of Tomorrow. Acts 1 and 2 are terrific. Act 3 starts to fall apart a little bit, but overall, still a very good Sci-Fi flick. Emily Blunt is terrific as usual.
Hi Marianna! I own all the blu-rays that you mention with the exception of 'Her', so we are in the same wavelength. The following are movies that I can watch again and again that don't receive enough love, they might not be masterpieces but they are entertaining. In no particular order: - Déjà vu - Next - Annihilation - Source Code - In Time - Adjustment Bureau I know that I cheated, I listed 6, Oh well!
The Empire strikes BACK! Blade Runner 2049. Star Trek: into darkness. E.T😌👽 The Matrix. I absolutely always love your shelf behind you. I definitely need one, since I just stack my movies on top each other haha! I really hope your doing well & staying safe and cozy at home. 🏠 P.S. it's random, but did you ever review Rosemary's baby?😁
HUGE YES to a special review/ discussion of HER. That being said, here's my Top 5 (trying to think quickly): 5. Ghost In The Shell 4. Sunshine 3. Annihilation 2. The Matrix 1. Her
Good collection. 👍 I too only buy movies that I know I gonna re:watch or that I really love! I think you might enjoy "The Thirteenth Floor". And I literally just now got the Ghost in the Shell manga. Was unpacking it while watching this video. Nice to see the movie i your collection. 😊
Great collection, thanks for the video! My favorites are the matrix, Arrival, Blade Runner 1982 ( I loved 2049 too but I think the original was better )
Top 5: 1) 2001 2) Interstellar 3) The Martian 4) Moon 5) Inception I like what you said about the Criterion Releases as well. I love them, but they are expensive. I am torn between owning the 4K or Criterion release of Parasite when they come out. As it stands, I only own 2 Criterion Blu-Rays, Europa Europa and The Great Dictator. I will definitely add the Criterion Release of Come and See when it gets released in June as well. Great collection Marianna, you've got stellar taste!
Thank you! LOVE your top 5! I actually got the blu-ray for "Parasite" right when it was released, but I wish I didn't rush. Definitely picking up a Criterion edition of "Memories of Murder" though, when it's available.
@@ImpressionBlend Yes! I forgot that one was getting a Criterion release. Thank you for the reminder. I have never seen it because it is hard to get a hold of/stream, but apparently it is Bong's best work.
Worth a mention: John Carpenter's Escape From New York, also his movie: They Live. I'd add the original King Kong, A.I. (Artifical Intelligence), Alien 3 is pretty good, but not as big an adrenaline rush as the first two. Someone's already mentioned Soylent Green (I'd agree) and the original Planet of the Apes. I'd also mention: Altered States, A Scanner Darkly, and Barbarella (for fun). For my Top 5, that's hard, but 2001: A Space Odyssey would probably be #1, also Soylent Green would probably be in it, maybe 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (Disney), maybe something from Ray Harryhausen, like Mysterious Island.
Great video. I am not the biggest sci fi fan, which means my standards are high. 2001, Blade Runner 2049, The Fly, and Inception are the ones that come to mind right now. I've never seen a Tarkovsky film, but I plan on diving in soon. Is there one you'd say is a good one to start with?
Oh keep the Star Trek - those cases are amazing! I originally was a bit meh about the 3 movies, the last one never really grabbed me, but ended up buying all three at some point - I have to own all of they are a series (a serious fault of mine). I have fallen in love with them and after a couple of watchings have found a love for Star Trek Beyond. 2001 a Space Odyssey ... I just don’t get the hype. Love Dark City - must get the director’s cut! Must, must, must watch Arrival- been on my to watch list for so long and haven’t gotten around to it yet.
Dear Marianna, I recommend for your collection EUROPA REPORT, a very decent sci fi fil with mystery an a bit of horror, totally underrated... greetings!
My top 5 would probably all be amongst those you show in the video, but some honourable mentions: Gravity (needs to be seen in 3D on the biggest screen possible) Dredd Cloud Atlas Super 8 Watchmen
I do have some of these. Jurrasic park, The fly, 2 of the things (1982, 2011), Train 2 Buscan, Zombieland, Cornello Trilogy, Inception, Interstellar, Dark City, 5th element, Ghost in the shell, Mad Max quadrilogy, Martians, Matrix, OG Star Wars Trilogy, Force Awakens, Terminator 1&2, Blade Runner 1&2, Arrival, 2001: A space Odyssey, Alien, district 9. Aliens, Ex-machina, Her, Looper, Star Trek Reboot Trilogy
I think one's age would affect their top 5 movies a lot because when you see something in your formative years it can really affect you. 12 Monkeys was great but I also really liked the series by the same name. I'll skip the rest of my top five and mention some others maybe you and others haven't seen: Silent Running, Soylent Green, Logan's Run, Outland.
Two titles I hoped would pop up but didn't: The Andromeda Strain, the first Michael Crichton movie and a very scientific accurate thriller from the 70's, and Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, most people don't seem to realize that it is a science fiction story about what would happen if you could erase memories. Also, Westworld. No need to guess where Cameron got his inspiration from.
Never Let Me Go is so good. It's one of those movies where the acting transcends from excellent into the realm of super realism IMO. Not many movies can do that for me. This is one of them.
You know, I saw it in theatres, and actually found it really interesting, so I definitely agree with what you're saying. For some reason, never had the urge to rewatch it though. Maybe I'll give it another viewing soon!
If you haven't seen it already, I would recommend the film "Suture" [1993] - judging by your choices, I think you may get a kick out of it. It's not sci-fi as such, but it has some elements. It's idiosyncratic, interesting, mind-bending.
@@ImpressionBlend It's fairly obscure. But has interesting blends of the kind of thing I think you'll like. It's essentially an art film, beautifully shot, a bit high concept - not perfect, but really interesting.
Top 5: 1. Back to the Future Trilogy: I know, more of a comedy - but time travel ftw. 2. Matrix - life changing when first viewed 3. Alien/Aliens - I count as one because it's impossible to pick which is 'better'. 4. The Thing - Still packs a punch even after nearly 40 years. 5. Star Trek: Wrath of Khan - A cat and mouse game in space. Excellent.
Blade Runner, Alien(s) and 2001 is the natural starting point for any burgeoning sci-fi collection. In fact I think they were my first 3 Blu-Rays. ‘Chronicle’, thanks for the heads up, hadn’t heard that one. The Fly is genius (Goldblum is fantastically underused as an actor). If anything the original is perhaps even more sinister. What about films like Donny Darko, Eternal SOT Spotless Mind and Prestige: would they be considered sci-if? It’s always been my favourite genre. Maximum escapism.
Avatar (most fantasy it is my favorite movie of All time). The Matrix, Blade Runner 2049 tie with original Blade Runner, Alita Battle Angel and District 9. I also enjoy. Edge of Tommorow, Oblivion, Chronicle, Cloverfield, Back to the Future Trilogy, Original Star Wars Triology Mars Attack, Men in Black 2, Existenz , Dark City, Cube, Doctor Strange, Strange Days, 12 Monkeys, Inception, Minority Report, Sunshine, Moon, Deep Rising and Attack of the Block.
I have the first two cloverfield movies on dvd in my collection, both are really good, but I'll wait for the price to go down on the 3rd movie because I heard it wasn't all that great.

My top 5 off the top of my head:
1) Alien
2) Empire Strikes Back
3) Mad Max: Fury Road
4) The Martian (one of my favorite book & movie combos)
5) GOTG or Blade Runner 2049
I have often contemplated integrating my video, book and music libraries. But that's three different rooms to consider... Thanks for showing how it's done Marianna.

I think you should have a few older classic, pre 2001, sci-fi classics to round things out.
Dark city is a great movie! I still have my snapper case dvd copy that I bought in 2007! That's a keeper!
Also Loved Fifth Element and Valerian and a Thousand Planets and Looper.
That edition of Dune is the most beautiful book ever produced.
would love to watch the 'her' review!! one of my top 10 films
Nice collection you have there.
Hi Marianna! I own all the blu-rays that you mention with the exception of 'Her', so we are in the same wavelength. The following are movies that I can watch again and again that don't receive enough love, they might not be masterpieces but they are entertaining.
In no particular order:
- Déjà vu
- Next
- Annihilation
- Source Code
- In Time
- Adjustment Bureau
I know that I cheated, I listed 6, Oh well!
Children of men is a good post apocalyptic movie. Had it in my collection for years. I also have it on dvd and also a keeper.
Jurassic Park and 10 Cloverfield Lane, yep, you're still my favorite TH-cam channel.
Splice is a sci-fi horror I'd recommend.
Also side note, I love Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. We do exist. Lol
The Empire strikes BACK!
Blade Runner 2049.
Star Trek: into darkness.
E.T😌👽
The Matrix.
I absolutely always love your shelf behind you. I definitely need one, since I just stack my movies on top each other haha! I really hope your doing well & staying safe and cozy at home. 🏠
P.S. it's random, but did you ever review Rosemary's baby?😁
Great video! I think you should do a discussion on Her, by the way - one of my favorite films.
Nice. Here’s my top five sci-fi films in no order, aliens, terminator 2, empire strikes back, blade runner and looper.
HUGE YES to a special review/ discussion of HER. That being said, here's my Top 5 (trying to think quickly):
5. Ghost In The Shell
4. Sunshine
3. Annihilation
2. The Matrix
1. Her
Nice collection! 😄🙏🏻
Top 5:
1) 2001
2) Interstellar
3) The Martian
4) Moon
5) Inception
I like what you said about the Criterion Releases as well.
Would love to see a discussion on the film Her. I think it's a beautiful love story that really speaks to current day.
I want to see the Her (2013) discussion video!
I've never heard of Never Let Me Go. I'll check it out!
It's excellent, so sad. And the book is wonderful too.
Great video. I am not the biggest sci fi fan, which means my standards are high. 2001, Blade Runner 2049, The Fly, and Inception are the ones that come to mind right now. I've never seen a Tarkovsky film, but I plan on diving in soon. Is there one you'd say is a good one to start with?
try using a polarizer filter for the glare and reflections, it could improve :)
Dear Marianna, I recommend for your collection EUROPA REPORT, a very decent sci fi fil with mystery an a bit of horror, totally underrated... greetings!
My top 5 would probably all be amongst those you show in the video, but some honourable mentions:
Gravity (needs to be seen in 3D on the biggest screen possible)
Dredd
Cloud Atlas
Super 8
Watchmen
A lot of good suggestions.
Maybe the next collection videos can be based drama, comedy, action, romance or western collection?
Very nice collection! Check out Robot Carnival when you get a chance. It's an anime sci fi anthology film.
Mariana, very off topic, but have you heard of the Hulu/BBC3 series Normal People? I would be so interested in seeing a review from you!!
Never Let Me Go is so good. It's one of those movies where the acting transcends from excellent into the realm of super realism IMO. Not many movies can do that for me. This is one of them.
Haven't actually heard of that one, I'll have to look it up! Thanks for the recommendation!
@@ImpressionBlend It's fairly obscure. But has interesting blends of the kind of thing I think you'll like. It's essentially an art film, beautifully shot, a bit high concept - not perfect, but really interesting.
Top 5:
1. Back to the Future Trilogy: I know, more of a comedy - but time travel ftw.
2. Matrix - life changing when first viewed
3. Alien/Aliens - I count as one because it's impossible to pick which is 'better'.
4. The Thing - Still packs a punch even after nearly 40 years.
5. Star Trek: Wrath of Khan - A cat and mouse game in space. Excellent.
My First Time Watching Your Videos, Video, You Have Good Taste! I Am A Sci Fi Nerd , Lol 😆
Things are going great, I have been working my yeast bread pizza from scratch technique.
Omg you got criterion movies!!😀👌
As "Children of Men" is in the suggested movie list, I'll try to re-watch it.
I have the first two cloverfield movies on dvd in my collection, both are really good, but I'll wait for the price to go down on the 3rd movie because I heard it wasn't all that great.
I would NOT recommend spending money on "The Cloverfield Paradox", it's not worth it at all IMO. You can stream it on Netflix though ))
