I definitely preferred the pancake lenses of the Pico4 to the G2. Combined, a much better sweet spot and wireless made the Pico 4 a significant improvement.

the worst was definitely the nose and light coming in with pico 4. but it also looks bad (so does reverb g2) even on highest, so its a no-go for me anyways

Definitely more from the 4070. DCS, G2, and Aero are on my personal wishlist- G2 is what I have. Aero is what I might aspire to eventually get due to the savings on a 4079 vs 4090. Thanks again - your channel is amazing:)

I am missing reviews of the Quest pro in MSFS. I have pico4, g2 and quest pro and the clarity of the lenses of the quest pro is incredible. And you can use USB instead of wireless, natively which gives a very stable experience.Your reviews are so valuable just a pity we dont know your thoughts on quest pro

I have both the Pico 4 and G2, if I want clarity, I use my G2, the trick to the G2 is getting your eyes as close to the optics as possible, making sure your IPD is set to perfection and once in that sweet spot and being real close, you can basically look into the sweet spot and look around with surprising clarity (kind of like emulating pancake lenses).
The other thing about using the Pico 4 with Virtual Desktop, I find using the "High" setting with "Snapdragon upscalling on" works quite well, looks pretty good without being such a huge hit on the GPU that "Ultra" and "Godlike" does.
As for Pico's own "Streaming Assistant" software, it's not where it needs to be yet, even with a Link cable, the compression is horrible. Oculus have this much better on the Quest-2 with Link cable.

Hey! Can you please do a video with the 7900XTX and the pimax crystal in dcs? It would mean a lot to the XTX community as they are having big problems with the XTX and WMR at the moment. Would really help out the community of you could do so!!! As it would offer a way out for people who own a XTX away from the G2 and towards the crystal!

Currently on God mode 150mbps Biggest difference was turning off HVEC Encoding and just using the first option H264. That doubled my frame rate. Currently on Ultra settings with terain detail set down and Buildings trees objects down to high. Steam Render Scale set to 115, DLAA or FFAA (sharper than TAA) not sure witch. but I'm locked 90fps on the 4090 unless I go to new york. I was getting 45-60 this mornign before I tried turning off the new HVEC 10-bit that just crippled my GPU.

Before anyone jumps to a Pico 4 it should be important to know that there is a very specific way this headset needs to run in order to even be a viable option to use. The image gets compressed and then decompressed as it transfers wirelessly from PC to Headset. There's latency depending on configurations, artifacting depending on lighting. The way it works with Steam, the way it works with virtual desktop to stream to a PC should be considered first if this works with a given system and wi-fi connection. Might be a good idea to dive into the actual specifics of how you are running the Pico with MSFS and DCS. Graphic settings are helpful to see but there are more things to have to set up under the hood to even get it playable with VD and OpenXR

    • @Andrei5656
      @Andrei5656 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Well that's hardly a Pico 4 specific problem. Every VR headset will need the ilage to be compressed and decompressed. Every headset except those that have Display Port integration. And those are rare and not what the general public gets for Christmas, those are enthusiast headsets.

Dude, i got them both. If you seriously consider giving the recommendation to "upgrade" to a pico 4 from a g2 from a sim flying perspective, i can not take you seriously any more. Pico4 with VD (in my case with a 4090) is a good experience. But it is nowhere close to the experience with a g2. PS: ok, just a little clickbait. But again: pico4 vs G2 in msfs2020 is not close at all.

What CPU is this PC running Steve? The 4070Ti actually looks to have a little more headroom than the main thread. Maybe turning off live or AI traffic and live weather if they are running would give the main thread a bit more headroom and you could gain a few more fps still. Or perhaps its because you are recording?

Sorry to ask this on your Pico 4 video but I'm struggling to decide whether to pull the trigger on the Crystal because I cannot find a source to confirm whether the headset is able to run local dimming AND low persistence mode at the same time. Because if it's unable to run local dimming at the same time as low persistence mode, then for someone who wants to have low persistence mode on all the time at minimum, the local dimming contrast ratio benefit of the Crystal over the Aero becomes a mute point of comparision. Many thanks in advance if you are able to shed light on this for me please!

So this is way off topic for fans of MSFS I know. But I own a pico 4 and I’m wondering that if I treated myself to a gaming PC maybe with a GPU of RTX 3080 or something around that mark would it make a substantial difference to the video quality when downloading videos and playing back VR videos? This comment isn’t really about gaming quality because I know the gaming quality will massively increase with PCVR. I’m specifically curious if the same visual increase is also applicable to downloaded movie quality also??

@@VRFlightSimGuy so may I ask you another question as I am extremely new to VR. My first ever HMD was the pico 4 which I only purchased a few months ago. I actually love this HMD and I think for a first time user for its price and features it’s been an absolutely incredible purchase (I even returned my PSVR2 because screen for the screen I have to say the pancake lenses on the PICO are a lot clearer. For example when I’m in the theatre mode on the PSVR2 versus theatre mode on the PICO it’s night and day difference). Anyway the more I play around with the PICO during movie playback wether it be streamed in 8k or downloaded in 8k if I’m being really nit picky there is some quite noticeable SDE. Now, for the price I’ve paid I am 1 million percent not hating it’s a fantastic HDE for its price. But what I’m really aiming for now is a type of HMD that’s has significantly lower SDE when viewing movies. This is why initially I mad excited for the CRYSTAL because of all the specs. But then after further research VR pros say that paper specs aren’t actually the most important part it’s when it’s actually on your face as I’ve seen many videos praising the quest pro which has significantly less reso than the crystal. I apologise for the long winded message but I’m really hoping to make the right decision with my next HMD purchase. I also don’t currently own a gaming PC as my preference for VR is actually movie streaming and entertainment but actual gaming is a very close 2nd favourite if that makes sense. So when you say having a high end gaming PC won’t make any difference to my ability to download/stream movies it makes me question is it really worth it for me to pump out all that money on BOTH a gaming PC and a high end PCVR HMD. once again, sorry for the long ass message

I owned a G2 for 3 years and never could get over the terrible sweet spot. pico 4 brings so much more. Amazing color pass through, better brightness & color, amazing sweet spot, hand tracking, active colling and just the build quality alone was much better. Couldn't sell my G2 fast enough. Pimax should be here soon though so it will be my family game night headset moving forward.

I have to point this out...
You say that you are running native resolution for the headset, but that's not actually true. Godlike mode in VD is 3072x3072 per eye (I think) or something very close... which is significantly higher resolution than native for the headset, which is 2160x2160 per eye. As I'm sure you are already aware, the additional render resolution is to compensate for barrel distortion brought about by the optics of the headset.
Native resolution actually means something, and it's not what you are saying. You literally stated native resolution and then contradicted yourself within 30 seconds. Why? Also, DLSS was not included in the spec screenshots that you posted, yet you also say that you are using it... adding another details that shows that you aren't running native resolution for the headset.
It would be wise not to confuse this as it will only confuse others... not to mention being somewhat misleading. If you're going to use "jargon"... use it correctly. It makes sure that people learn accurate information which, i'm sure, is your intention.
    As a final note...
An internet connection and Wifi are not the same. It's really misleading to say that internet connection has anything to do with the operation of this headset. Outside of download apps to it, and firmware updates, an internet connection has nothing to do with this experience. Your wireless network speed does. These are two complete different things. To state otherwise is objectively false and you are literally misinforming people because you don't really know the details of what it is you are trying to talk about. Study a little maybe? It would go a long way.
I'm sorry that it seems like i'm crapping on your right now. It's not my intention... but it's a common issue among "influencers" who end up saying what sounds good rather than what's actually applicable and useful in the real world. The blind and ignorant leading the blind and ignorant. It's an issue. Please stop adding to it. All it takes is for curious minds to inform themselves and you will lose your audience. You'll end up turning to someone who is seen as selling ideas and opinions, rather than passing on useful information. I don't want to see that and I don't think that you do either.
We do align on London City city. It eats machines!

  • @awjvdheide
    @awjvdheide ปีที่แล้ว

Have you tested the Bigscreen beyond.
This seems to be upcomming for the Pimax Crystal and middle man for the Aero.
I don’t have Steam VR hardware so I have to take that into account in de pricing
And then Bigscreen is cheaper then Pimax and is hardware PC with comparable PPD and VOF
I do only include 1 or 2 lighthouse since handcontrols are hardly used in simulation and then Leap Motion can fill in that part.

Owning a 4090, A G2 and a Pico4.... for simming, ill chose the G2 over the Pico4 any day. Even at the highest/best settings the Pico4 lacks contrast and detail vs the G2. For arcade type games, the wireless Pico is very cool and works great.... BUT the G2 is just way sharper and the colors slightly deeper. If you have eagle eyes.... then the G2 is still better imo. Using a low profile facial for the G2... yes the sweet spot it small. But you dont even notice it when simming. The G2 would beter still if it had aspheric lens....

G2 was a nightmare even after 3 replacements and now sits in my closet broken. Pico 4 however worked without a hitch and have already logged more time in 6 months than an entire year of G2. Personally I would never trust Hp again and when I hear someone recommend G2, espcially after Hp discontinuing VR production, I just have to roll my eyes. But if people want to purchase a lower quality headset at twice the cost then to each their own.
    ps
You can run the Pico 4 tethered directly to the router and doesn't make a lick of difference than the G2; something VR Flight Sim Guy neglects to mention for some reason.

I'm starting to consider an AMD GPU. It's such a big commitment as it has to last 3 to 4 years before the cost can be considered again. AMD is starting to look good however there are very few reviews n VR performance.

@@philb1167Nvdia is generally much better for VR. Even the 7900xtx has issues with VR.

@@philb1167 I would not recommend it personally, especially for VR. I have a video out soon explaining why.

@@philb1167 AMD GPU's do perform pretty good in VR but VR headsets like Varjo Aero only supports Nvidia RTX GPUs sadly enough. Pimax Crystal should also work on AMD GPU's but not any reviewers showed the goods how well of bad it works on AMG GPU's yet.

Hi Steve. This is an amazing video. I have a 4070 and looking to upgrade my pico 4 to a Varjo Aero since I always wanted one. How much difference would there be would you say visually and performance wise? Also You mentioned foveated rendering here for the pico 4 - how do you set that up? Thanks

I have neither, but seeing many reviews the verdict seems to be like night and day. There is of course the huge price difference and personally I'd spend less now and wait for the vr market to develope more like lets say 5 years. I bet that with the "4070" of that time and $400-500 vr you'd get better image quality and performance than Aero now. Then again there will be new varjo that everyone wants that cost 1000+ :D
If you don't want to wait and you haven't bought it already it's on black friday sale atm.
