    Another good tip: if you have the same person coming in month to month to get what we call a cashiers check (some institutions may refer to it as something else) that is something you should pickup on. They are using it to pay rent and this is the perfect opportunity to suggest they meet with someone to speak about a mortgage. Also look at what else they may be getting these cashiers checks for, example if they are getting multiple checks to different institutions they are probably paying off loans or credit cards. This is another chance to suggest a debt consolidation loan and have all of those loans with your institution. I worked the teller line for 4 years before moving into my current office as a loan officer. The longer you do it the more aware you become of peoples needs.

    • @MelissaFreeman
      @MelissaFreeman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true. I moved into a Personal Banker II position after 5 years of being on the line & even then I would go work the teller line as well!

      Peter Campbell same! + I would stand right there on the line and open account and do loans! Many hats to where in banking that a lot of people don’t realize! I believe a lot of folks think you’re just a cashier when working as a teller!

      Nancy castanon neither, you can look online to see if the position is still available. They will usually take it down within a week of choosing their new employee. NEVER go into the branch to see if you got the job. That is unprofessional and rude because you’re wasting time that the manager was not expecting to see someone that doesn’t pertain to helping an actual customer.

      Rebekah Cristín yes, I plan to move into different positions as I go, however, I am taking a break from banking right now to be with my children so that my husband can do what he wants for a change! I was strictly a teller for 4 years before becoming a PB II. Hello! I’m currently in the “ hiring process” I have a phone interview coming up shortly, I’m being very optimistic, so let’s say I get hired and I’m going in for training...I am an Avid note taker during training, it’s how I learn, my question is...would that be something that is looked down on?

    I have a interview for a teller position Wednesday, I have one question if you could be generous to answer. My question has to do with appearance, I have a Mohawk and I've had it for my other job as adminstrative assistant. I'm afraid due to my appearance of hair, it could be a possibility that they won't consider me for the job. Should I get a hair cut or do you think it will be fine ?

    • @MelissaFreeman
      @MelissaFreeman  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michael Valerio You can always just go ahead and cute it but if you’re attached to the hair cut and really don’t want to cut it then do the interview and let the interviewer know that you are absolutely willing to cut your hair if it will be an issue whatsoever

    Should I major in finance when wanting to work at a bank?

    • @MelissaFreeman
      @MelissaFreeman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Emily Nguyen you do not have to have any degree at all to start in banking, however, if you do have a degree in finance you will be able to start in a higher position which will obviously be at a higher pay rate than just starting as a teller. I am a Personal Banker 2, started as a teller 4 years before getting the PB2 position.

But he has an 8 year experience in restaurants industry?! Could you please share your opinion with me? Thank you...

    How do we meet quota? I applied to TD bank and got the job the next day but I’m not sure if I want to do it because of the quota, I just need a job for 3 months do you think I’d survive for that long? It’s either that or work at Quickchek lol

    • @MelissaFreeman
      @MelissaFreeman  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      +the chinster if you only want to work for 3 months I wouldn’t suggest it. That will definitely go against you if you put that on your resume or if a new potential employer finds out that you were only there for 3 months that will hurt your chances of getting a job that you actually want in the future. Can you grab a quick gig as a waiter? That’s quick cash and good for a short job.

      No I’m surrounded by fast food places the nearest diner is almost 20 min away with no traffic. I did let the bank know though that I had plans of going back to college in the spring semester full time because they asked me if I planned to go back soon. It’s only a part time job
