2015 Transit Project - how to compress rear caliper piston, changing brake pads

- After checking the brake pads they were all pretty thin so I ended up changing front and rear pads, rears were a pain because it needs a special tool, I didn't have one, it got the job done but it's a cheap junk tool and takes to much work for something that should be so simple
New project coming this week!!! It was an unexpected purchase for a good deal, video with details coming this week!!

This video helped me hugely. I had no idea that they rotated back to compress. Thanks.
Thanks, yea me too lol
Thanks for the video
Thanks for the video. When I have to do rear pads on my 2015 250, I'll be back to check it out again. I'll be sure to get a good tool first to rotate those pistons
Good luck, I never replaced rear discs pads on this design in my life till now LOL
I managed to get around using the wind back tool and used a C clamp. On the driver side it works fine because it automatically twists clockwise. Passenger side took a little work but once you get the rhythm it's easy. As you tighten your C clamp take some channel locks and turn the caliper counter clockwise. The pivoting head on the c clamp will allow for the rotation while tightening to keep pressure. There's just barely enough lip on the caliper head to grab it so be careful not to grab your rubber boot and mess it up. Either way it's a two handed job. Thanks for this video though or I'd of never known these things had to twist to go in.
Good job 👍
Thx
Maybe show how to put the new pads and clips on, instead of your kids flying a kite?
Haha next time
Greetings.
As always excellent detailed video 🇺🇸🍾🎉🇺🇸
Did you have to open the brake fluid reservoir before you start the break pads replacement?
Thank you so much for assisting me, keep producing more videos.
Lol I like the thumbnail xD
Haha thx
Awesome video man and your kids are cute
Thank you
there is a mark on the caliper with a small arrow that indicates the direction of rotation. Look here 01:55 if you look at the top..well the bottom but now it is on top you will see the arrow.
Ya if you donno u donno right? Lol
The caliper piston should be turned till the piston is in and the 2 recesses line up with the pin on the back of the pad the pin fits into one of the 2 recesses otherwise your piston will not be flat against the pad otherwise you did great anti seize should be applied to the caliper bolt pins and the pads where they rest in the saddle
Thx
would it have been easier to use loaded calipers?
looks like Matt is going to be dads helper from now on.
Nice to see the kids included.
Robert Jaent what you mean loaded caliper?
My 2017 Ford Transit 250 3.5 EcoBoost does it have same calibers
the cure for insomnia
You are welcome lol

Wonder how long the brakes will last with normal use? Also, how difficult is it to change the spark plugs in these? The engine is far underneath the windshield.
It’s pretty easy to work on actually plenty of room
Is it safe to use the differential as jack point?
Yes on any vehicle
I really should have watched this video before I bought pads and Installed them. I was wondering why my C-Clamp compression wasn't working. Put it all back together with worn parts and will drive it to the shop tomorrow. What happened to the good old days?
I just put my grinder tool on it
grinder tool on what lol
I'm sitting here saying noooooo. Counter clock on the passenger side!!! And then you figured it out lol 😥
lol would you believe that I never worked in calipers with Ebrake together? I had no idea lol
its funny because all the other vehicles that have this set up all are clockwise rotation all the euro vans do counterclock on the passenger side took me about the same amount of time to figure it out too. At least you know now. Keep up the videos everyone learns from them. Also love that you don't add the adds like a lot of others do
The arrow tells you what way to turn
Inside pad on outside
Well spotted
Whats the tool called?
This method of retracting the pistons did not work for me - they just spin. I had to rent the proper tool from the auto parts store so that I could apply significant pushing force while turning the piston.
What vehicle you tried on?
you have a broken piston in the caliper.
Lol no
@@FixItNick , so, what you saying that brake fluid spins piston that many times in order for it to come out. That makes no sense.
Can rent a turn back kit at advance auto parts for free
Maybe
so much pointless talking, just do the thing
Lol done
