The album was great, was really surprised how good it was, I love the fast paced songs and the slow songs were really good too!! My favorite tracks were 1981, strange days, Dilemma, look ma no brains, Fancy Sauce and Corvette summer! 🤘🤘
I read this somewhere so I don't know exactly how true it is, but it got the cogs turning at least. Re: Goodnight Adeline, I saw someone say that Adeline St. is a place in Oakland where at lot of the bar scene is. So in that sense, it really turns that song from a sweeter love song, to a more depressing view of BJA's sobriety, waving goodnight to a place of drunkeness and debauchery, either for the night during a relapse, or for good in going cold turkey. And the more I think about it, the more I think you can view a lot of the songs as inspired by BJA's sobriety. Obviously Dilemma and potentially Adeline, but even American Dream. Maybe for BJA, sobriety is his American dream, having control over yourself to make decisions that benefit you and don't cause yourself harm. And Dilemma is a good statement to support that that dream is killing him. Coma City, just by title, could easily reference being blacked out. Fancy Sauce, again by title, getting sauced is common terminology for being wasted. And honestly I love the drips and influence of something BJA is dealing with and going through coming into his songwriting. My biggest complaint about GD, at times, since basically 21CB is that the songs don't feel genuine and aren't coming from a real place but just feel like words on a page in a song, not grounded in anything that anyone in the band actually cares about or matters to them. But I feel with Saviors, they've come back around to writing real songs about real things, and it's very refreshing. Agree with 8.5 overall, good assessment.
You know I think I read the Adeline thing somewhere too but didn’t include it in the video cuz I also didn’t know if it was true or not. But I like your insight into the song, really changes the meaning for me.
I love saviors and it’s in my top three for the Albums right next to Nimrod and 21st Century Breakdown After a while of waiting we got what we were looking for Saviors really saved Green Day in a way☺️
Please please please do a long shot video! Mentioning the movie Billie Joe starred in Ordinary World could be really cool because that movie was used to promote the band. Also covering foxborro hot tubs, The Network, and Pinhead Gunpowder would be really cool!
I also reviewed this album recently and while we have differing opinions on differing tracks, our overall thoughts are pretty close. Whereas, your rating is an 8.5/10, mine is an 8.4/10. Can’t wait to check out more of your content, especially the Green Day related videos due to them being my favorite band. Keep up the great work and you sorta remind me of Davey Havok.
''nothing is phone in here'' YASSS!! Like every trach is a banger and they sound like having fun! compare to FOAM, which is super short and rushed, Saviors is them having fun!
I think it's the best album they've released in a while. I don't like it as much as their earlier work, but it's a very solid effort and has some bangers for sure.
Okay, so a lot of these songs are getting better on second listen (like I enjoyed them the first time, but didn't think they would have much staying power for me). Dilemma, Look Ma, No Brains, and 1981 are probably my faves. I also enjoyed Fancy Sauce a lot. I think I need to give more of the songs another listen, because they've really grown on me. There are some lines that make me cringe a bit here and there (namely tiktok and taxes), but overall, this is a very solid record (especially when compared to Uno, Dos, Tre, or Father of All...). It's a decent mix of American Idiot/21st Century Breakdown and their earlier records (Dookie and Insomniac specifically).
I watched a video that wasn’t as fond of this album as you were or I am, but they made a good suggestion where if you reorder the list a little and cut a couple of songs it’s actually pretty concise. I made a playlist where I flipped 1981 and dilemma so it’s all fast bangers first and then dilemma and goodnight Adeline act as a kind of break. Then you axe suzie chapstick and corvette summer and go into the strange days/20’s duo. Then put coma city as the closing song after saviors and cut fancy sauce. It’s leaner and gets to the juice. That all said I really like the album as a whole. A return to form. I think that a lot of early Green Day gets put on a pedestal, rightfully so, but I think a lot of the criticisms of newer green day could still be there in their older stuff. Often I see lyrics that don’t make sense or are non-sensical. But like their old shit was that way too. I think it’s just that their old stuff launched a genre and then American Idiot was their commercial peak and thus we are being super critical of everything after. Only critique I think is valid is how much bite or energy there is or isn’t but as far as lyrics, if we all love basket case idk if we can really be out here judging their new stuff when they sang about meth and masturbation as their opening commercial success 🤷🏻♀️
Great review. Although coma city to me is a 9/10. But I’m glad there are more good tracks on this one, it’s not like forgettable as Rev Radio, or awful like Father of All. Just a solid 8/10 album which is sometimes all you need from a good band.
Green Day is definitely a timeless band

You really remind me of George McFly from Back to the Future, your way of speaking and manerisms. Great review btw!
@@RicciB089 you know what’s funny? That’s not the first time I’ve gotten that 😂

That’s awesome! I haven’t gotten a physical copy yet, had to listen to it on Spotify and TH-cam lol
@@EternallyUncoolTrevor lol that’s fine, i hope you do get a physical copy someday!
Good, solid release. Prob coulda cut three songs for a killer 12 song album.
Yeah, I agree that one or two songs kind of hold it back from being perfect
