I've been thinking about this a lot recently. I'm intimately familiar with the bands whole catalog, i hopped on when I Like I When you Sleep came out when i had just turned 17, and this band meant a LOT to me as a teen . As I've grown older, I'd like to think I've been able to become a bit more objective on the band. That being said, I think with the 2010s in the rearview, The 1975 is obviously the most influential band of the decade, full stop. Their sonic aesthetic, ESPECIALLY the production style has been copied without end. Matt Healy's melody style and Adam Hann's obvious tip of the hat to the great pop session guitar players of the 80s have left an undeniable mark on guitar music, even now. However, The 1975 while huge and influential to bands and musicians, still haven't quite broken into a cultural touchstone of our time (ie Taylor, Billie Eilish, or Drake). They are like 99% mainstream it feels like, they have never had a song that was HUGE. I don't see a lot of sync licensing or movie use for The 1975's catalog, which is a decent metric for commercial popularity at mass scale. The argument could be made that bands may never reach that level of stardom again, but the point still stands. As of now, barring the release of an absolutely monumental song or record (which i think is unlikely), The 1975 will absolutely have a legacy, but not as superstars. The 1975 will be remembered as influential to other artists, not mass audiences ala Prince or to an extent Radiohead (catalog excluding creep).
To be honest I don't think any artist from this generation besides Taylor Swift and Beyonce that would be remembered after 100 years from now like a Tina Turner or Michael Jackson would be.
Idk, in my house I'll try to make sure my kids listen to the 1975, green day, MCR, Blink ect, and would probably have to ban Beyonce 💀😂 so my kids atleast will remember them 😂
