      Unfortunately it seems that it is single use though, if one was to cook with that everyday that would be alot of waste. I think a better option would be a cheap reusable cooker with a solar panel or a hand-crank

    • @haileyjackson1640
      @haileyjackson1640 3 ปีที่แล้ว +455

      Jordan Tai that would put a target on an homeless persons back. If a homeless person had a reusable cooker, a lot of other homeless people would try very hard to steal it from them. Having heaters can put homeless people at risk. I’m pretty sure if you were homeless the LAST thing you would be worried about is how much waste you are using.
      I don’t expect anyone to sacrifice a meal over a couple of pieces of plastic. Sorry

    • @schnabeltiertv
      @schnabeltiertv 3 ปีที่แล้ว +371

      @@haileyjackson1640 Many homeless people already own something like camping cookers, they aren't usually expensive.
      Some own way more, some live in tent camps or build small shacks etc., they own furniture, phones....And no, they don't beat each other to death over a 5$ cooker. You can share one between people and it has almost 0 resale value, so it's not something people are very likely to steal. Especially if there was an organization that would provide them to anyone who needs one.

    The magic behind the bad looks like this:
    There is something like cement in the pad. When you pour water with any temperature to it, it starts to hydrate. The cement connects with the water and produces hydrationsproducts which harden. While this happens, these products „crash“ with other products and that causes friction ( which leads to heat). This process ends when all the cement is consumed and the pad is full of these hardened hydrationproducts. But its not cement bc cements process needs much much more time like 7 days. That explains why the pad in the beginning felt like a sandbag and in the end its full-blown and hard.

    2:34 I'm from China and my family is incredibly traditional as they live in a rural city, they used to make me this candy all of the time! We eat it by twisting it until it all bubbles up and becomes white, we treated it as a competition! Simile to the FRH, flameless ration heater.
      It's mostly just Fe and NaCl. Fe stands for Iron and NaCl for sodium chloride aka salt.
      Basically H20 which is water plus Fe creates oxidation process also known as rusting which produced Fe02+ 4H and some energy due to Hydrogen Carbon breaking down and the Fe0 bond formation. Bascially rusting happens really really slow in our environment so we dont notice the exo thermic reaction but that's why Salt is added to act as a catalyst agent facilitating the electron exchange and speeding up the process thus giving off a complete quick reaction and as a result some absurd amount of heat.

    The maltose candy reminds me a lot of how Canadians eat maple syrup sometimes. We freeze the syrup just enough so it's viscous like that and eat it on a li'l stick. So yummy 🤤

    • @tadhgmcdermid7545

    • @LivFP
      @LivFP 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tadhgmcdermid7545 as far as I'm aware they leave it on ice for just a minute and it becomes not solid but viscous enough that you can wrap it around a stick and lick it like a lollipop.
