    It makes sense, as it's difficult to run newer games at 60FPS 800p. For VR you ideally want 90fps+ and at a much higher resolution.

      Is the rumored deckard going to support steam deck. I don't know much about PC and VR I'm hoping the deckard could offload some or alot of the workload but that would mean wired. But I wouldn't mind wired personally.

      Alot of VR games are not graphically demanding at all. Simple textures and low polygons is the norm in most Vr games (aside from modded games), so even trying to play them in high res should be feasible but not impossible for the 'Deck. Of course, most VR are not designed to run on Linux to begin with or supposed to be even compatible for that matter so the fact that he even managed to get them running is amazing.

      @@Spencerwalker21 Deckard patent shows it having DP connection and having internal hardware. Will be the first of its kind to be a real standalone and tethered VR system, with wifi6e (6ghz) which should get much closer to the latecny offered with 60ghz wigig/2, also there is some rumor of it having a wigig2 kit instead of DP or with DP.

      i'm sure valve is already working on index portable, wireless headset that can run the games from a box or something that has the hardware it needs to run the games.
      right now i'm seeing valve giving them selves such a huge headstart by being in on where the market is at.

    • @crimsama2451

      Portability has always been popular. The PSP is iconic. The Switch has been a massive success. A handheld with good support and decent marketing will do very well imo. People love being able to use a device anywhere at any time.

    Did anyone try to get a solution working where we just stick with a smaller 2D screen at original resolution? All I want is to be able to play on a virtual screen to get it a bit larger than the built in screen, and also get some privacy. I have the nreal on order as well as the pico 4. I'd love to use the pico 4 for this instead of keeping the nreal air though...

    Out of curiosity - have you tried having the Steam Deck network cabled directly to your router? Might require the additional Stean Deck Dock - but I know even with regular PC VR gaming the airlink works about 10 times better if the host pc is plugged directly into the router. Haven't heard if anyones tried this for VR yet with the Deck.

    Based on what you said were the top searches I'm not sure the conclusion that it's because people want to understand if the Steam Deck can run VR is the right one (although it could be one of them); As I understand there has been data mining/ patents indicating that Valve may release a standalone VR headset using the Steam Deck as springboard - I was actually expecting they may make an announcement during the Steam VR Fest but that was a bit of a damp squib....maybe they may announce something before the end of the year, who knows!

    • @RushReality
      @RushReality  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah ive seen the reports from people like SadlyitsBradley talking about the Deckard data mining stuff. All very interesting. Surely something more will leak soon.
      It looks like early 2023 could potentially see a market saturated with Deckard, Project Cambria, PSVR 2 and Pimax 12K. It could be interesting times.

    I quit the video at 2:31, mainly because you didn't consider that it is possible to install Windows on a Steam Deck, now I get you might want to just keep things stock and Linux-based, because that's what the Steam Deck is by default. But, if you were to install Windows, and the Oculus App on the installation of Windows, I believe SteamVR, and other VR-based apps and games would work quite well. I get Windows also doesn't give the same performance as SteamOS, it can be worse mainly because of what Windows packs in by default on Home, Pro, or even Enterprise editions. I hope you revisit this idea with a Windows installation, may it be Windows 10, or Windows 11, see if the Oculus app detects your GPU as supported, see if it recognizes it the link cable from the Quest directly to the Steam Deck, and other things. If not, then consider Valve Index or other alternatives, as I don't think Facebook/Meta intends to bring Oculus support to Linux anytime soon.
