- “The Chicken” - We bassists all love playing this song by Pee Wee Ellis, made famous by Jaco. I had a chance to play it with the Buddy Rich Big Band, at a memorial concert. I was nervous, but had fun. Drummer Tommy Igoe is on fire, and Roger Rosenberg plays a KILLER bari sax solo! #thisboyslife

Don’t know if anyone has made drumming look more effortless then Tommy
Where does this fat, snappy and ass kicking sound from with whom he leads an entire big band? Amazing! 🎉
Bloody hell!
I love how Will Lee is not trying to do Jaco at all but just grooving his ass off
Exactly
I might have already mentioned how much I adore Will Lee both as a Bass player and as a musician. But Holly sh***! Tommy Igoe is a Monster: so much drive, attack, groove PLUS leading a big band - that's pretty insane.
Man, you really do know how to sweep with the thunderbrom! Since it was a memorial concert I was wondering if, in Buddy's memory, the drummer fired the band after the show.😉😂
Clams! I'm breakin' my ba!!5 out here and how dare you disrespect me like that?? You think it's funny?? .... ROFL
На басу Борька Джесинюк але Грег Бесанет? )))))
Very tasty and super funky playing by all! Yes, I do love playing this song on bass as well. I'm totally digging your very slinky rubber bandy tone on this one Mr. Lee!
Thanks Will. That was just what my soul needed after a long week. Beautiful!!
great bass play and stage act, Will Lee
This is by far my favorite rendition of this tune.
Same here. Even better than the Jaco big band version.
Will Lee.. you funky motha-funker. This is so tasty dude. omigod.
Hola, el jszz el sonido de urbe.
Will never tire of this tune. Always a toe tapper. A joy to play too.
One of the most accomplished bass players ever getting “nervous”. Thanks for sharing. The tone on your bass and the whole performance is off the hook. That’s an infectious groove.
You really nail it. My favorite version ever!
❤
I want to take lessons from @tommyigoe and I want to play this with a big band before I die. SO GOOD.
Stupenda versione,, grandissimo Will Lee
❤
Is it possible to buy the bass transcription please?
I'd buy that too!
YoH Roger! Great Baritone solo
i've had this specific performance on a playlist of mine for probably around 7 years now. saw it pop up on my feed and it was posted by none other than will lee himself. you're a huge inspiration mr. lee
Excellent
Possibly the best Chicken ever. Anyone know where we can find a hi-res audio file of this performance?
Tremendous performance. But what about this Will's shirt?! Strange...
Saw the "Jaco Pastorius Big Band" do this with David Carswell on bass in Hollywood FL many years ago....kind of a tribute concert. Equally Fabulous. His Jaco's SON walked in late and sat next to me. Kind of spooky because he looks so much like his Dad........
This is top notch!!!!
I really enjoyed your performance, Mr Lee. I'm really glad youtube has a "slow down" feature. I gotta be rippin some of that off.
1:32 when you're in the pocket, and the joy of drumming shows.
Just incredible, what feel
Will Lee,…. The Master of Disaster! What a privilege it is to watch you work sir! Great tune!
Excellent stuff Will.
Was that Roger Rosenberg on the Baritone Sax solo?
Will is playing like a pissed off Michael Jordan.
You handled your business as always Will! Groove of Doom!!!
lead trumpet rocks
Will Lee looks like Timothy Treadwell.
:) !!
Will Lee! Fantastic 😁👌
Wow the band sounds really tight 👍
Matt Harris as MD and Key Boards !!!!!!
Every musician on this recording is on fire, especially Igoe!!
The Chicken - Will Lee & the other guys !!!!!!
Who's the funky rhythm guitar player? Sounds like Charlie Brent!
Paul Pesco!
You will always be one of my musical heroes Uncle Will!
personnel?
omg, Will Lee is the GOAT. That man can do it all.
Didn’t hear a single clam!
Fantastic 🎸🎉🔥
This was Killing!!
WOW....
Very true😊
❤❤. Wow ❤
Yeah!
I don't much like resorting to superlatives, but I listen to a lot of bass players, and structurally and melodically, this is one of the greatest bass solos I've ever heard.
Great cover! Keep it up!
Burnin'!!
Really nice work Will!
Killing it will

Tommy bravo! The best chicken)))!
Tommy Igoe fantastic. But... With a bassist like this, a drummer has zero effort. The first time I saw Will play was in a club in Los Angeles in 1980 with Spyro Gyra. I was blown away by its fantastic groove. I Love You
Wonderful ! But bass should be fretless)
Looks like new music stands.
Antonio Cassano alla batteria
I can see Jaco trying to jump on stage just to throw in a little solo lol!
