They still are a band. Just a bit less magnificent, especially without Jan Akkerman. Drummer is still Pierre and still pretty damn awesome. Plus my former teacher is their bass player now which is rad.
Saw Focus a few weeks ago on tour here in the UK. Still led by Thijs Van Leer and with the amazing Pierre Van Der Linden still drumming like a demon at 78 years old! I'm sure they'd both be impressed by this tribute - great stuff
Cool version! I heard Thijs van Leer and Focus nail this song on their US tour after releasing the song in 1971. Thijs new guitarist has to sing the top octave on tour now, but Thijs still rocks his organ and the low-end vocals.
People, you just got done kicking my ass. Excellent performance totally cool seeing this. Thanks for kicking my ass. A good ass kicking never hurt anyone. Excellent
so fun to hear this song i remember from the 70's by the Netherlands rock group Focus,,,,remember it well, thank you and amazing performances chad on drums, will on bass - (the only 2 i know) and everyone else. ... and of course thank you will lee for posting this on the youtube
Chad is a close friend with my old road manager. He sat in with my band one night on the road and beat the absolute shit out of my kit. I’m a hard hitter, but Chad is whole other level of loud. Lol.
There's no need to hit that hard... great drummers like Vinnie Colaiuta, Thomas Lange, Simon Phillips , etc.. don't need to beat that crap out of their kits to sound great.
Unfortunately true, he did not like rock at all. Anything that didn't swing was no es bueno for him. I admit I was a little surprised they did this. Regardless of what he thought, this was still a fun performance. Perhaps he also would've had to reconcile the fact that many jazz artists had gone fusion and incorporated elements of funk and rock in their music.
That double c I think it was on the trumpet was pretty killer. Not easy to play that high. I got 20 years of trumpet playing and same for guitar. I could get that high in trumpet but it took years of training to learn how to use my diaphragm and not just my lungs. Using just lungs is how you can have such a serious inhabit will end your trumpet playing. I don’t play much trumpet anymore. I only played it because that’s what I started in in the 4th grade and just kept at it cuz I got really good, but I play guitar every day cuz that’s my true passion. Not gonna lie this is a sweet version of the song though.
Chad Smith is a great Rock Drummer and is perfect for this song! That being said, Chad is no jazz, big band or jazz fusion drummer so you won't see any super fast double sticking patterns or fills out of him like you would out of Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, or Ed Shaughnessy.... Or for that matter, today, Keith Carlock (Steely Dan) or Marvin "Smitty" Smith (Jay Leno's Tonight Show Band). Being a drummer myself, I'm not taking anything away from Chad- Smith. I think Chad is awesome! Just when I think of somebody playing with Buddy Rich's band I think of someone with some amazing fast jazz fills.
I remember chad telling a story about Niel Peart being at one of these Buddy events. And when chad got off stage neil looks at him dead pan and says "do you think you could hit any harder" I die 😂😂😂every time I think about that.
Lot of noise and no Chad Smith might be ok for the Peppers, this just shows how limited he his compared to Pierre (who? The original Focus drummer) and what a beast Jan Akkerman on guitar was….. If you don’t believe, look it up.
Snails pace no dynamics chad is nice guy but overrated and terrible drum sound terrible bass drum sound obviously chilli pepper fans in audience not a good version,it started very slow and got slower and slower until it was very uncomfortable.
Focus were magnificent. Top band ❤
And Pierre van der Linden is a killer drummer.

Will Ferrell is killing it! 🤘
Yeah, his imitation of Chad Smith is the best!
When will this overrun unfunny joke end
How special was Focus so many years ago, playing this at an even higher speed, with a four man band!
Love this! I used to call into the local rock station and request this! Epic
That is super inspiring music. Wow ! what a great mix of musicians.
Will Lee NEVER changes !!!
Wow that was great ! vocals, bass, guitar, drums the whole collaboration .
Brilliant🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵❤❤Chad full on Beast Mode
And the whole Band 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Yeah, baby, that's what I'm talking about! Did we all sing along? I know we did.
Cool version! I heard Thijs van Leer and Focus nail this song on their US tour after releasing the song in 1971. Thijs new guitarist has to sing the top octave on tour now, but Thijs still rocks his organ and the low-end vocals.
People forget what a great drummer Will Ferrell is under his alias, "Chad Smith." Go, Will!
People, you just got done kicking my ass. Excellent performance totally cool seeing this. Thanks for kicking my ass. A good ass kicking never hurt anyone. Excellent
Wooooooooooooow !!! pure fun !! cheers from germany!
Wow! This was fantastic! I really enjoyed the arrangement and what you guys did on vocals.

Good to see Paul Pesco in the mix!
Love the guitar solos and the bass.
Fucking amazing cover and arrangement. Love the punch and the way Chad’s kit is miked.
I saw Focus back in the day. It was incredibly over the top.
WILL!!! Sweeeet!!!!!!!
great cover guys. The Beach Boy nailed the vocals
There is no Buddy Rich band. You can't have a Buddy Rich band without Buddy Rich....
DaaaUmm, can Detroit Boy play those drums, or what !!
This is some inspired shit. Love it.
Will Lee and Paul Pesco!👍
I still feel a bit like I might have dreamt that Focus made the British charts with this song in the 70s.

Gotta love Chad.....WILL LEE is a RIOT!!!! Love ya'Will....Any more coming from ''Fab Faux?''
That was energy handled masterfully. Rock it!!
Buddy would not want his name on this.
Great.

Nice tribute 👍

Chad it hitting the drums harder than perhaps any drummer I have seen. My gawd...how did he not break the heads?
Jan Akkerman has changed a lot! 😲
Chad is very underrated. He can play about anything..
That was killer . Thanks for sharing . By the way , Will , do you ever age dude ?
what a drummer, what a band, what a song! 😮damn
Chad Smith nocks it out
Focus!
Will Lee got a gig with the Buddy Rich Big Band?
Not bad but a little cowbell would make it better
Chad's a bit loose.
I thought it was Will Ferrell for a sec …..
2024 ?
What’s wrong with Chad not being able to hold onto his sticks? What does he have butterfingers? Or is he so distracted from his failing showboating?
Can't hear himself....
Simple, he sucks.
Totally agree, what an embarrassment to Buddy Rich.. total clown show….
Sofa King Kewl!!
Bunch of Bots in here
I remember chad telling a story about Niel Peart being at one of these Buddy events. And when chad got off stage neil looks at him dead pan and says "do you think you could hit any harder" I die 😂😂😂every time I think about that.
Because Neil knows that you don't have to beat the crap out of your kit to sound great...
Is that guitarist the guy that used to be on daryl's house?
Yes indeed!
Lot of noise and no Chad Smith might be ok for the Peppers, this just shows how limited he his compared to Pierre (who? The original Focus drummer) and what a beast Jan Akkerman on guitar was…..
If you don’t believe, look it up.
Amen!
Pierre Courbois.
Chad sucks.
@@deetgeluid No Pierre vd Linde
@@peterpeters4553 Of course. Stupid me. Courbois was a Dutch jazz drummer. 😔
Wish they sped it up a bit. The original is much faster than this... th-cam.com/video/g4ouPGGLI6Q/w-d-xo.html
That was NOT done in the original tempo; they rushed it because of time restraints on the show. The original tempo is even slower than this.
is this the band associated with Cathy Rich, or another derivative?
it is parts of the BR BB
my question is whether or not Cathy is associated with them?
@@ColonelAngus4her Yes- she puts these together with a small team of people
power bashing
ACCERMAN JAN
Buddys rollin over in his road case....🤮
This wasn't realy good was it.
Nope...
This is pathetic, it has nothing to do with the spirit of the original.
All in good fun!
why you have all have to hit so hard - lot of energy is going into use?
edit - adult people - go get some real work anyway
Great drummer but he always rushing on tempo ...
Rushing? This is way slower than the original!
Snails pace no dynamics chad is nice guy but overrated and terrible drum sound terrible bass drum sound obviously chilli pepper fans in audience not a good version,it started very slow and got slower and slower until it was very uncomfortable.
Zero dynamics.
Long live The Vandals
Entertainment none the less
