Vergil: *Literally slash time and space
Dante: ROYAL GUARD
actually, if you use RG in his Judgement cut you're gonna be.... well... surprised... to say the least.
@@TheKueiJin you can parry them as well. (Or at least block, I wasn't looking at the DT bar)
@@TheKueiJin You can Royal Guard his Judgement Cut. Jump in the air to do it though.
@@RuneKatashima You don't need to be in midair to do it. I just did it 3x today on ground.
@@FrinceFries19 It's easier but true.

*royal guard*
Vergil: It scares me
Damn you beat me to it 🤣
Dante: *ROYAL GUARD*

this is too good
Not in dmc 3 🥲
Yeah, in 19 and 20 mission as Vergil such thing as screaming Dante "ROYAL GUAAARD" is very annoying thing

@Rookie one 2017 Even though Dante can block all of Vergil's attacks, and some of his attacks literally create tears through space and time?
Rookie one 2017 Nah, he won't. That's Royalguard.
@Rookie one 2017 r/woosh
Quick trick that's worked since DMC3: Jump Block. If you block while still in the middle of the i-frames of a jump, you can more easily do Royal Blocks since you're technically blocking the moment the attack would connect. Same principle applies to a Jump Release.
Air block!
can you explain like I'm 5?
Okay then. Let's first break it down on how jumping and blocking works.
In DMC, you are fully invincible during the rising part of your jump (up to when you start falling). This makes it a great defensive tool for repositioning and dodging thanks to having a lot of invincibility. You can say that while jumping, an attack is just going right through you as if you aren't there at all. Note that you are only invincible up until you start falling, or start doing something else like Attacking.
As described in the video, Royal Block occurs when you block right as an attack is supposed to hit you. Royal Blocks raise your DT meter, but are really difficult to do because of how close to the attack hitting you that you have to block.
Jump blocking exploits the fact that you can go straight from the invincibility of a jump straight into blocking.
So let's say you react to an enemy attack and jump to avoid it. You probably have seen times when the enemy's arm or weapon is right in your character's model but isn't hurting you because you're invincible at that moment. If you were to block at that same moment, you'll immediately transition from being invincible to a blocking state.
Because you're no long rising from the jump, you aren't invincible anymore. However, because you've gone straight into blocking while the attack should hit you, it counts it as if you've blocked at the perfect time and gives you a Royal Block.
@@Tsyuait thats some next level tech
@@Tsyuait Does this work with the royal release as well?
Been a member of the Royal Guard since 3. This game has the easiest parry windows in the series. Have fun with it guys!
Plus using DT instead of hp on normal blocks, and an auto parry stance, although I like how much more usable and fun it is to use
@@PrimeSinisterful auto parry stance 'll let you get killed if there's multiple hit attack from the enemy.
Huy Mai Van isn't it supposed to knock down any enemy after a counter? Except bosses ofc.
@@Sou1Reav3r when it's multiple projectile coming your way, auto parry stance can only counter the first projectile, the rest 'll hit you for sure.
Huy Mai Van I was thinking about melee combo attacks, never even thought about using it on projectiles, they're easily blocked for the most part (except when Griffon revs up his gatling gun without any warning).
Noob DMC player here.
DMC3 and 4 I've never even touched Royal Guard.
DMC5 I tried my hand on it for the first time ever.
By complete accident I finished off Vergil with a Royal Release and insta SSS. It was hilarious.
Seijass yeah they made it a lot more fun to use because it's more useful for well everything it's more user-friendly it's Parry window is a little bigger and to top it off you have double trigger no chipping damage if you mess up in my personal opinion it's the best generation of royal guard welcome to the Royal Guard
Me too I got an S only blocking in the Vergil fight xD

I really love your tutorials but something REALLY important about royal guard you forgot to mention is that it builds devil trigger *even if youre in DT*. this means if youre good enough with royal guard you can essentially stay in devil trigger mode forever.
Might wanna add that to the description or as a pinned comment.
gogetaSSfive What? How does it build DT? It takes away DT unless you time it right?
@@zZiL341yRj736 yeah and if you time it you even get DT meter even if you're already triggered.

I'm slowly learning how to use this considering that every time I've tried to learn it, I end up failing miserably at doing so. dmc3 being prime suspect as I couldn't grasp how it worked. I would watch people just destroy enemies and wished I knew how they did it. I had looked in the past for guides on how to do it and tricks but couldn't find a guide till I tried again in 5 and found you. This was really helpful and practicing in the void to get better before trying it out for realsies in the other games. another reason to love dmc5 for me, the void ability practice. :D
DMC3 Royal Guard was awfully hard. I frustrated too.
Vergil: slices tears in time
Dante: rolls up with royal guard and a meteor launching hat
These are some well put together style guides.
I appreciate you labeling the inputs by their function names and not the names of the buttons they are assigned to.
It helps _twice as much as you might think_ when the default bindings were put in place by a crazed lunatic, have arbitrary limits on which ones can be re-bound and require third party support to _'properly put right'_ - Cheers.
Nice outro too!
I use every style except for Royal Guard, thought it was pretty useless until I watched this video
Vergil: How come you're not dead yet?!
Dante: Probably because I learned: THE DEATH BLOOOOCK
"Probably go with the death jump"
Royal Guard, more like walking PTSD for Virgil
I’ve recently started using RG and let me tell you that even though it’s not as flashy as the other styles, but it’s amazing at deflecting damage while staying in close proximity to your opponent. I love it!!
I've been using Royal Guard a lot more in this game compared to 4 because of these changes. Knowing that if I mess up the timing I have a safety net of DT makes me more comfortable in using it where as in 4 I would just use Trickster because the risk wasn't worth it for me.
Great video. Honestly I’ve always avoided royal guard but this makes me want to try it out more. Thanks.
Gunslinger: Cool!
Swordmaster: Combomaster!
Trickster: Meh.....
Royal Guard: YOU CANNOT KILL MEEE!!!!!
Carltastic Drew Trickster got lame over DMC4 and DMC5. In DMC3, Dante ran off walls (horizontally and vertically) and he ran off enemies. It was really fun if you were into dodge heavy gameplay. Now it’s only a few moves. It’s really disappointing.
@@quackquackerson5686 Lol DMC4 trickster is the worst, you can only dodge once and continuously if you're in DT. DMC5 is almost the same as DMC4 yet you can dodge continuously and increase range. I never used the wall run tho. Hehe
Wait, isn't trickster a thing on DMC4 with guard cancel? Like donguri does?
trickster : little bitch
Gunslinger : little bitch but with guns
Swordmaster : your weird but okay cousin
Royal guard : B I G D I C K E N E R G Y
@@esunacilada Yeah it is
You can fucking fly and jump around like a damn flea with each style if you're Donguri or Sakaki levels of busted in DMC4.
Only reason DMC5 doesn't have that is because DMC5 doesn't have inertia.
Thanks for all of these videos, you have made me significantly better at DMC 5. I thought even after 11 years I can manage, but turns out I need help after all
I am pleased to find a channel that helps me refresh my play, I haven’t played a good dmc game since 4 but this game has reworked much of the mechanics so I’ll be practicing the new attacks and moves… for example I’m having a hard time finding my comfort zone with Dante’s use of Cavelier and Balrog… but equally difficulty trying to be stylish with the awkward style of V, trying to attack but taunt or read poetry to build up my style meter it’s a lot to monitor at once, but I will be playing more and just finished the game once.
This is a great video for new players who are tryna get use to RoyalGuard, as much DMC veterans this is very much an important asset to Dante when tryna build the Style meter and being adept at any enemy in the game!
Great job @DevilNeverCry
Do a Dr. Faust video pls
Also, great video as always
Thanks for making these videos. I suck at dmc but love the fact the combat is so complex and deep.
im not gonna lie. i was soooo confused on wth royal guard do since dmc3 and never mastered it such that i never used it since. this video has made me open my eyes in what ive been missing all these years. im going to try it now

This guy alone has taken the responsibility to make every new player a pro in DMC V and I'm lovin it.
thank you for your guides. just picked up the game and you are my go to source for it !!
I plan on buying DMC5 soon, so these videos keep me up to date and hyped for when I eventually get it. Please keep making more tutorials! Very useful and informative, can't wait to die a whole bunch of times while practicing Royal Guard!

Thank you, I was looking for something like this now that I bought the game and finished the Devil Hunter mode on my first run, thanks! First DMC game I play.
Aaahhh my favorite style and the most I used in the game. Royal guard. Especially in DMD.
Thanks bro, keen it up with the tutorials videos 🌹
Lovin your vids from what I’ve seen so far...!
Got more friends comin over these days so I’m trying to make my DMCV gameplay look more Flashy, and these are helping out a lot...!
I spent a lot of time with the Fury mastering this technique. Needless to say, by the time I got to Virgil I was able to Royal Block most attacks pretty easily.
Didn't know Royal block existed lol
I did not even consider using royal guard until this video. Thanks for showing me how to fight Vergil without the use of several gold orbs.
You my friend have just earned a new subscriber👍
This has much more utility than it did in previous games. I'm glad they put time and effort into improving it. Plus, the timing aspect is extremely addicting.
Perfecting royal guard not only makes you feel like a boss it makes you a a badass who pisses off the bosses in the game.
I'm fairly sure that being in DT increases the Release damage as well, I would use Royal Guard's counter and release to take out DMC5's version of Blitzes, cause they're almost as annoying as the DMC4 ones. At least these new ones aren't invincible until they self destruct.
At least, it _felt_ like it was just about impossible to kill a blitz before it went red. Then it just became a waiting game. By far the most annoying enemies.
Its not even annoying its pathetic who thought that the blitz in dmc4 was even a good anything nvm idea for a ""casual enemy"" its worst then playing dmc1 on the original platform (3 hits your dead, like wtf I digress. the blitz is just simply childish. The bosses are easier than that piece of garbage.
The speedster enemies are always the worst. The blitz in 4 and its counterpart fury in 5 always feel like annoying mini bosses, especially when you have to fight them with other enemies in the damn room
@@TheNadroj10 dont even get me started i think its floor 87 on the bloody palace in dmc4 but yeah 2 blitzes? Like are your serious? *insert jim carry oh come on meme*

i got my first SSS "combo" because i kept royal blocking vergil but i didn't know how royal guard worked. I just thought i time my block and then attack. But thanks to this video i understand it better. Thank you for your tutorials
It was really fun in my first play through to quickly switch between styles in the battle against Urizen. Trickster to get close and dodge, royal guard for ranged attacks and sword for when he is stunned. I finished the fight with a royal release. It was pretty damn cool
The greatest improvement DMC 5 made to the series was making some of the higher-level moves easier to figure out for an average player. Royal Guard and Exceed are the best examples, they feel like they take an hour or so to get the hang of instead of 30 hours like in DMC 4
Thank you man I was scared to use this style before watching this video
Break breakdown and I never used this. Definitely a positive learning curb to this.
Really cool vod. It will also be great if you can add applications(outside void) at the end. RG is pretty good in Cavalier Angelo and Vergil fight. R.Revenge is great for fury.

I didnt really use royalguard in my playthrough of dmc5 but I did use it quite a bit in DMC4, especially against the lighting enemies (the ones with the shield). I can't remember the exact combo but it was hit block and 5 or 6 quick hits would cause their shields to break, which was even quicker than Neros devil arm.
I was waiting for this 😍
We're the same you and I
Cheers for this tutorial.
I remember playing DMC3, and Royal guard wasn't that good in DMC3, either I wasn't good at using RG in DMC3, or I loved using Quicksilver/Swordmaster style so much. And also in DMC3 Playstation 2 version, you can only equip one style in that game. I heard on Steam version DMC3, you can switch styles on the go, but I don't think its worth purchasing DMC3 a 2nd time for 1 small improvement.
Looks like I have to practice RG in DMC5, because I haven't started "Son of Sparda" or "Must Die" modes yet!
Also, I am very surprised Quicksilver and Doppleganger hasn't returned in DMC5, then again, Vergil kind of has doppleganger as his level 1 DT.
I never knew that it depended on DT. Wow.
in 3 and 4 it doesn't it takes health
Royal Guard Timing is BEFORE an attack hits you. Just a few frames but it doesn't need to be in the same frame.
If you have played Muramasa on Fury Mode the opposite is true. You must hit "it" after the attack hits you, still just a few frames window.
Fantastic tutorial. Thank you.
That satisfying sound of royal block..i love it
Royal release + Dt explosion in 3 is how you destroy vergil
Thanks for the video man 👍
it may seem overwhelming at first with all the styles and devil breakers, but then you have to realize it's 5 games worth of mechanics, some legacy controls like the tight bumper being the aim button and the stances came in at DMC3.
Hands down a unique style that can be quite a beast for damage dealing
This helped me alot, Thanks.
Thanks for this. I'm struggling with the timing of this style.
I got the hang of it by the 3rd mission with Dante, it made the Final boss battle super fun for me
Like how Nico’s Van Theme is playing at the background.
Royal Guard was amazing in DMC3. Well...everything about that game was.
Just making my way through 5 right now, great game too. Finally getting to control Dante.
you know a game's difficulty is FAIR when you need a youtube video tutorial to learn how to master it.
Remember devil may cry on ps2?
no internet to help that time....ah...good times.
There is nothing in this video that wasn't explained in the game. There is a menu dedicated to explain royal guard.
-Companies used to make deal with guides and magazines making some games almost impossible to finish without them.
-On the ps2 Era people where already searching for cheat codes and solutions.
-Games had booklet explaining all the mechanics ans sometimes even more. Without them, some games where just "guess the secret mechnanics". (Shout out to baldur's gate)
-Complexe games are fucking cool.
beautiful & simple explanation for the mechanic keep up the good work
specifically for royal block, when you press block, if an attack hits you in the six physics frames(100 milliseconds) after you block, it will be a royal block. you always need to block BEFORE the attack hits you.
Ty for this lol i never used royal guard before but after seeing someone no hit dmd against vergil made me want to try it out

Amazing content! Thanks.
I learned royalguard because I wanted the "who needs weapons" achievement, then I tried doing Vergil with it, it felt so good, I wish I didn't overlook it in previous games, it almost makes me want to go back to dmc3 and do a royalguard only run
Why did you bully caveillier angelo like that
I don't have any pc or console but I'll still watch this
Cheers on Highlighting this Style anyways... I got better at this first, so I didn't have to guess the invul frames of the Trickster style, or clumsily dash into a multi-hitting attack from the enemy...
Really want to learn i literally just use sword master the whole time ever since dmc 3 kinda stuck lol
Love these vids
I can do Royal Blocks relatively easily but Royal Releases are a different story. Mostly because of the added complexity of having to lock on and use the joystick. Because of these, sometimes I get the direction wrong, sometimes I get the timing wrong. And in the case of DMD Vergil, I would do a Release on him and while he did take the high damage, he wasn't even interrupted in his attack and he just continued his combo.
Vergil's Judgement Cut VS Dante's Royal Guard is literally unstoppable force meets immovable object
Thanks cry i barely knew anything about royal guard other than block and release
This helped me a lot. Thank you. +1 sub
