    I appreciate the rawness and honesty in your videos. I don’t think there are many physicians out there that discuss salary and I do think it’s important to educate pre-meds on what to expect, options, and to just know that you shouldn’t be in it just for the money because you do sacrifice a lot in this field.

    Exactly, you can always make more money but you can't get more time. This was an excellent video from a doctor's point of view.

    Thank you. Thank you for sitting down and speaking the bare truth that so many future doctors, as well as female doctors as future mothers may have concerns about. Family is so important to me and I know it’s an obstacle navigating our futures as physicians with marriage, kids, etc. Your family and your patients are very lucky to have you!

    Hi- Can you do some interviews with other types of physicians. For example Physician in education, physicians who are MEDICAL WRITERS, physicians who work in pharmaceutical research as MONITORS and DIRECTORS, Physicians in PUBLIC HEALTH, physicians who own businesses. I rarely hear about them...and i wonder how do they get into that field.

    I love your perspective! Sometimes I feel like I'm not as intense as other doctors when it comes to working full time. I appreciate that the topic of part time work while enjoying your life is discussed, outside of medical practice. My goals for the future include just that. I am not specialized and I'm not even sure I want to, to be honest (that may change lol who knows) but thanks for the different perspective

    With more time off with the kids you could always focus more time on editing and making TH-cam videos, sponsorships etc.. and could end up making more through that as well? Also could stan not join a real estate company to have more fixed salary?

      That’s what we’re hoping would happen with TH-cam but as of right now, we’re really not making much. All realtors work off commissions. I think you only get a salary if you’re in an apprenticeship position? But I’m not sure

    Is finding a job or getting opportunities different as an osteopathic physician as opposed to an allopathic physician? Were the experiences of any of your colleagues differences with a DO degree versus a MD degree?

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Nope. It was actually a selling point that I was a DO practicing osteopathic manipulation. Everyone who is ACTUALLY IN MEDICINE knows that MDs and DOs go through the same rigorous training to become the physician that they are. You look at their body of work and the patients that they’ve cared for.

  • @hopeandpray1

    You’ve explained this really well. Part time hours for doctors are still long hours! And the pay (in the US, not so much in Ireland where I work) is still enough to live off.

  • @theclaamaterasu

    Do you ever wish that your husband was the one that made more money and worked more and you could be the one at home and with the kids more or do you prefer the path you have chosen and life you have made? I am just wondering because I am applying to medical school now. My boyfriend has a much more laid back career which is how he likes his lifestyle. It is less of a consistent guarantee and less money overall. Most likely I would have the more stable and high income. I am already in my late 20s too and want a family one day too.

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I love my career in medicine. I’m also glad that Stan’s work schedule was flexible enough to be there for the kids while I was in training. Do I worry that he doesn’t have a guarantee salary? All the time! But it’s our passion so I have faith that it will all work out I’m the end.

      Honestly, try to find someone who is going to be your equal. If you have a doctorate, your partner should also have one or be earning the same or more money. It’s exhausting being the breadwinner and puts so much stress on yourself. In the end you will be spending most of your hard work on him, with the travels and housing, you would most likely always have to pay. For long term relationships, find someone who earns a similar amount that way you don’t feel like you’re paying for everything

    • @chiravuris
      @chiravuris 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@numberone22459 Honestly, it depends on one's personality. Both my husband and I are physicians. My husband does not even account for my paycheck. He wants to be the main provider. This actually pisses me off bcz I make money too and I want to contribute to the family's income.

    • @numberone22459
      @numberone22459 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shalini That’s great and that’s the way it should be. Your husband sounds like a great person for doing that. And you still are contributing so much in ways u can’t even imagine. The best thing is that you guys are equals❤️

  • @drkriseliza

    Sounds similar to what is the case here in Australia as a GP (Family doctor) - each thing we do is attached to an "item number" - a #23 is for a 20min, #44 for >40min, #2715 for mental health consult >20min, #16500 for antenatal visits

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      5-6 an hour seems normal for specialist but as a GP, I’m addressing several issues and there’s never enough time.

    • @drkriseliza
      @drkriseliza 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@drjennale agreed! I don't think I've had one patient this week with a single problem... it's always "oh while i'm here, I also want to talk about..."! It's the part of GP I simultaneously love and also loathe - especially when you do thorough job talking about X, and then they pull out "oh also I have chest pain when I walk..."!! But hey. It's the job isn't it

    Hi Jenny. I’m from Pennsylvania and I know in our area a lot of mommy doctors go into private practices/ work for private/semi-private rehab facilities etc. during family planning, pregnancy, and post pregnancy time while they have little ones. I haven’t personally looked into this but from a lot of my friends who have taken positions like this they seem to enjoy more flexible and/or part time hours as well as still receiving competitive pay and benefits. I’m not sure how programs work in your area but I was wondering if you’ve ever considered something like this?

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! There was a private practice that recruited me. They had many part time physicians there. You also had the option of buying into the company after 2 years. Unfortunately, salary was not as competitive.

The other draw back is that if you wanted to increase work hours, it’d be harder because you’re connected to someone else
