    Children will always appreciate how present their parents were in their childhood. Your boys are so blessed to have had a stay at home father and now a Mom who is semi stay at home. Student loans will can be paid later but a childhood cannot be reclaimed.

I am applying to medical school this year after many years of feeling very torn about whether or not to take the step. I have known for a while that I want to work in the field of medicine, but also grew up with my mom being a family physician and have seen the vast toll that her work schedule has had on her health and my family. I'm sure I will work many years full-time but it is wonderful to hear that there can be ways to work a more normal schedule. Most female primary docs can’t handle the grueling full-time grind of family medicine. It’s actually more that 40hrs per week because you’re constantly connected to the inbox and call coverage. It’s why Japan doesn’t hire female med students. Most big companies also try to avoid hiring young women fresh out of residency because they know that 30y/o F is gonna call out 3 months for maternity in that first 2 years into the job. Not good for company productivity numbers, which is the bottom line that they’re after. No offense to you!

    Hello Dr. Le. Thank you so much for sharing so many goood info! I am waiting to match into FM residency this year and I would like to work part time so i can dedicate time for raising a family. I am literally delaying having kids now (although married) so i can get thru residency and its demands. But, i am hopeful after watching ur video and it is possible to have a life and be a physician :)

      Yes! I don’t see why not. White coat investors recommends “living like a Resident” until loans are paid off.

    I'm four years out of college and am applying this cycle. It's been an anxiety provoking waiting game-I really don't think the application process is fair nor efficient. Anyway, complaints aside, you've inspired me to pursue family medicine (my original field and experience was in neurology), primarily because of your ability to balance your family and also your transparency about finances (which is important to me as someone who is not supported by parents like most pre-meds).
    I've watched you for years and sincerely wish the best for you and your family

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that the whole application process leans in advantage towards the those who are privileged and well connected. I too did not have any parental support and took out school loans for everything. In the end it was worth it. Hang in there!! And best of luck ❤️

    There’s always work for doctors! Not only there’s a shortage, but also mid level providers need a physician to collaborate with or they simply can’t practice. We will always need that ultimate opinion and specialized support. No doctor should be worried about anyone taking their job; there’s a reason why you go through so much schooling.

    You’re right about work life balance. I’m a DVM contracted for a very “protocol quota” driven corporate vet hospital, (was a psych RN for years before). Sometimes I feel like a walking hypocrite bc I know how important WLB is for mental health. I love what I do but it’s getting harder to be excited about going in. There’s been a couple times when I wanted to walk out. We all have our days, but it shouldn’t feel like this!

    Should I become a physician? Or a CRNA? I am stuck on med school but I don't know why. I just cant let it go. But I dont want to lose my youth and time with family. CRNA makes the most sense and I wont be in so much debt. Is following "your heart" really worth it? Or should I do what makes the most sense?

    After the 2 year guaranteed salary, based on your patient load now, do you think your income will change much? Great video! I’m still amazed you get 30 min f/up slots. So many of my FM friends have 15min maybe 20min per patient!

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! Everyone in my clinic gets 30 minute appointments! I don’t think I can go any faster than that.
      After the two years, you get paid based on time and/or complexity of patients ... and a bunch of other things I’m still not sure about. I do a lot of procedures and OMT so I assume I might make a little more - but that is just my guess ... I really have no idea yet 😭
