oh my god i was just about to comment about how i really want to hear about your thoughts on wednesday- (especially about the bland 'love interests') aaaaaaaa looking forward to it so much!!!!
I fully support Katy Perry's reaction to this. It was smart of her to NOT talk to the guy physically or virtually, as that could have continued to feed his delusion depending on how much he convinced himself she loved him. A direct confrontation or acknoledgment would have been humiliating and potentially traumatizing. When stuff like this happens, I always think of that woman who killed herself in front of Paula Abdul's house, and how celebrities have to be VERY CAREFUL when it comes to obsessive fans. Katy was protecting herself and I respect that.
Completely agree!!! And I would bet a lot of money that any therapist would also agree!! If they had spoken to her it would have only legitimized his delusion that it was all a “prank” from her to test his love.
Yes, and stalkers have murdered celebrities because they are convinced they have some absurd “connection” - the case of the young actress Rebecca Schaeffer is just one example - CA laws changed because of that case
A buddy of mine worked on this show and said this guy was one of the only ones he knew of that just straight up could NOT be convinced he had been catfished no matter how hard they tried, even after they wrapped the episode 😬
@@AmandaTheJedi Yeah, I hope he has since then. I did find it encouraging to hear that he said MTV provided therapy/mental health services for Catfish participants, and that Max and Nev were both genuinely good guys who seemed to really care about everyone who came on the show. Small silver linings, at least!
This guy's level of delusion and commitment reminds me of that subreddit r/waifuism. It's like a religion to these people. Like they NEED it to be true to fulfill something inside themselves. Definitely could use some therapy to help them through whatever it is they're going through.
Holy crap! Ok so my wife got catfished by someone pretending to be Mark Anthony. She knew right away as anyone would, but she decided to play along just for laughs. This went on for three months! She would update me on her online "romance" with Mark Anthony and how he was ok with her being married already and how he was going to get her vip tickets to his next show. He was going to leave his wife to be in a polyamorous relationship with us! Then, suddenly, he was allegedly being sued by his manager and needed like 20 grand? 🤣 that's when the game was over. Reported and blocked. But my what a wild ride.
I used to be a “site model” on MySpace (back in the scene queen era) and I’d see so many fake profiles made of me, but one in particular made me feel really uneasy, they had gathered a huge following of a few thousand. A guy ended up messaging me one day saying he’s been dating who he thought was me for 3 years and the poor guy was hoping to build some type of bond with me, I had no interest in him and he was making me feel like I owed him my attention since it was my photos that fooled him. This doesn’t have anything to do with anything, just wanted to share lol.
Man, things were fucking AWFUL back then….. it’s not much better these days for women who are influencer types and adjacent, but BOY HOWDY I watched some of that, and I remember feeling downright SHAMED for feeling bad for some of y’all, so I kept quiet about it for the most part. But I always felt like you young women were getting the shit end of the stick and I wanna apologize profusely for not speaking up more against the kinds of abuse young women of your ilk and status had to go through. :/
I knew a girl who was actually named Katherine Perry & went by Katie. Roll call was always fun because professors would call “Katherine Perry?” And she’d say “Oh, that’s me. I go by..Katie…actually.” And they’d usually respond with some variation of “Ok, I’ll make a note. You’re not Katherine, you’re Katie…Perry. Katie Perry. Huh.”
I had an ex named Ryan Reynolds. Once we had a reservation at Blue Bayou at Disneyland, and when his name was called every head in the waiting room looked up in excitement that immediately faded into disappointment, lmao.
honestly my first thought of why didn't they have katy perry (besides the obvious, maybe she was too busy, etc) is that this guy is clearly delusional to some extent and there are way too many horror stories of delusional fans harming the subject of their fantasies when they get rejected, so in that instance (again not to assume) i'm glad that wasn't the case
I'm surprised people even subject themselves to being exposed. The show must pay them a decent amount and promise security is just on the other side of the camera.
This was my thought too. He was incredibly delusional and meeting the real Perry could have been dangerous for her and could have (would have, as I do not believe that email was a 'just in case') also intensified his delusions.
There's no way her management team would let that happen and rightfully so. If anything they may have gotten a statement from them saying she has no idea who he is and is definitely not talking to him but why even do that? It could just make it worse.
I'm surprised she even confirmed it. There is no chance a celebrity is going to show up or get involved with someone who "has feelings" for them when the two have never connected in any way.
Honestly also feel sorry for Harriet to a certain extent because yeah what she did was wrong but I’d be worried if I was her that my prank broke this poor man permanently
Honestly that’s a pretty fair response from Katy Perry given how creepy some people can get quickly. Like, she’s trying to be nice and empathetic but also with an under current of “please god let this man not stalk me and send me messages about how he wants to wear my skin”. I feel bad for the guy but… there’s no reason to talk to someone for six years and not trust them enough to at least send a slight selfie. Or phone conversation. She’s rich, she could have flown out for a secret rendezvous.
I am no Katy, but I was dumped by a guy I had no idea I was dating. He literally told me you are spending too much time with your husband and child. If you can not commit to me I am going to have to break up with you. I agreed.
Oh ye, that reminds me of a guy who used to be a friend of mine. He got more and more controling, dominating and generally abusive. Me and a close/mutual friend of his decided to hold him accountable for his actions by stopping to accept his bullshit. Low and behold I got blocked because: this guy found out that our mutal friend, F, spoke to her ex boyfriend, L, and then was so incredibly pissed off at me. Then again, maybe it was about the laptop that he essencially stole from F's parents and bragged to me about it. I told F, F might have told L and L could have been like 'fam, this is unacceptable'. So who knows. Fun times.
Why TF was it so hard to prove he was being catfished? Ask her to open the app, have him send "Katy" a message, and watch it show up on her phone. You literally have the entire means of their communication in your hands, you dopes.
He didn't logic himself into believing he was dating Perry. Logic isn't what is going to convince him he's not. Some very intense therapy and probably some medication to correct whatever's going wrong in his brain is what will help.
@@prettyevil6662000 I mean, I definitely agree that he could do with therapy, and maybe meds if his doctor thinks he needs it, but he doesn't show signs of psychosis. Just being horribly gullible and having desperate, unhealthy social relationship habits. My statement doesn't, by default, denounce him getting help. Jeeze.
Wasn't she also married to Russell Brand when during this dude's "relationship" with her? In six years she met Russell Brand, dated him, married him, divorced him, and started dating Orlando Bloom and this guy thinks HE'S the one 😂 I almost felt bad for him but he's so delusional it makes me angry. After everything, he's still like "Nice try guys but I don't believe you.".
It’s a weird, feeling win, you realize you want to be sympathetic towards this guy, until you realize that he refuses to believe the truth, and would rather live the lie, and continue to believe that he was actually in a relationship with Katy Perry. Once you realize that he refuses to believe the truth, it becomes incredibly difficult to be sympathetic towards him. Even after every speck of evidence tells us that he was never communicating with Katy Perry. Even when Harriet came out and said you were never talking to Katy Perry, I’m not connected to Katy Perry in any way. my name is Harriet you have been talking to me the entire time. He still thinks that there’s a connection with Katy Perry somehow, and that pathetic and sad, but in the least sympathetic way possible.
As someone who was in a cult, his reaction make sense. Humans are human in part because our brains will make up whatever to keep believing even with a mountain of contradictory evidence. His brother was probably unfazed because this guy seems particularly gullible, although that's not a necessary trait to be scammed.
I had an uncle who was convinced for years that he was married to the lead singer of Little Big Town. We tried our best to make him see reason, but it wasn't until he was nearly arrested because he helped buy her a house that she didn't pay the bills for that he accepted the truth and let us back in his life. Sometimes it's really hard to wrap your head around the fact you're being catfished, no matter how unlikely it is you're actually talking with the person you think you are.
@@shannonceleste5557 he got better, reconnected with us and his kids. We got to see him a few more times while he was still with us, but he unfortunately passed from a heart clot a few years ago
I feel like if they did reach out to Katy Perry to get her to talk to him, it could encourage other people to fake it so that they can talk to their celebrity crush. So it probably was a good idea that they didn't.
I feel like Spencer thought Harriet was sent by Katy to size him up and report back...I laughed so much. It's also okay to be this hard-core gullible and/or delusional about a celebrity between the ages of birth and 13.
when I lived in LA a very attractive minor celebrity hit me up on grindr with a blank profile. they sent me their face pic and I responded "do you think i'm an idiot?" and he was like no dude it's really me, I was like, "prove it, send me a face pic right now of you doing a peace sign and sticking your tongue out." and sure enough he does. whoopsie. years later he came out publicly. good for him.
this is just reminding me of that time i had a colleague whose actual name was katie perry and resented that the singer chose that as a stage name. …not that she did any catfishing she was just cursed with a homonym.
I knew a girl named Rachel Ray, when that show was popular when i was a kid. My name is also Rachel so we just called each other by last names. One day I told my mom's friend I was hanging out with Ray, and she was confused and asked who Ray was. I said Rachel Ray, and my mom's friend thought this little kid made up that they meet a tv star
Amanda kneeling and desperately begging “my queen”… will forever live rent free in my head 😂😂😂 Also, Orlando was a pirate…. stealing that booty 😂😒… I’ll show myself out. 😳
So that phenomenon of people seeing “secret signs and messages” in the content made by the people they follow/tv shows/movies etc can be a sign of psychosis. It is called delusions of reference.
This episode shook me when i first saw it omg. I remember as a kid I talked to this person on DeviantArt, we would talk, roleplay, etc. They said they were Ville Valo, from the band HIM. I believed them for all of... idk, a few weeks. I was p young, maybe 14. We eventually lost contact, which is sad. I would have loved to have gotten to know them for who they were, rather than the celebrity they said they were. Also, thanks to them I learned about the band HIM and still enjoy their music to this day, so thanks Faux Ville! Also you should def cover the episode where the dude was literally hanging out in a seniors bingo hall or something all day and just making bank off slot machines and stuff while spending all day talking to several different women. He acted like he was some mastermind when he was just a greasy pathetic NEET.
It amazes me how people who go on this show are so in love with a person they've never even met in person. Then when they realize they've been catfished all those feelings of love just evaporate.
Because it’s not love it’s infatuation. To be in love with someone is to know them and accept the fully. Infatuation is an intense passion or desire for someone, and is more about looks and chemistry. That’s why “love at first sight” is not real, and should be called “infatuation at first sight”.
PLEASE do Season 3, episode 2: Antwane & Tony Personally I’ve always thought the access we have to celebrities (tabloids and whatnot) is weird and dangerous. Luckily his story turned out okay but I can’t imagine the amount of people pre-social media who lost hundreds or thousands to celebrity scams.
I mean... he was duped by “Ah yes, I am Katy Perry” without further proof needed. I think it would’ve been hard to undo regardless if it had been 6 years.
tbf it probably would have been dangerous for Katy Perry to meet up with this delusional guy, and her putting in the effort to meet him would probably just have convinced him even more that he really had been talking to her
Please please please do the episode of the dude who catfished like 100 girls and kept their nudes and wrote stats about them like some kind of creeper baseball cards.
I'm pretty sure that dude is still doing it. A friend of mine was on Tinder a few years ago and she matched with the same picture that the creepy "experimenter" was using. When she talked to him, he said that he was "just visiting" our area and had flown back to his "home." My friend was like "Aw that sucks bye." because she didn't want anything long distance. Like a month later we saw that exact Catfish episode and were like "Holy shit that's the same guy AND HE'S STILL DOING IT!"
This just reminds me of the person on reddit who was convinced they had a decade's long relationship with a celebrity and that after breaking up with him he began stalking her and using his hollywood contacts to keep tabs on her. I sadly do not remember the celebrity. the real problem was that she was so unhinged/detached from reality no one could tell if she was really potentially being stalked by someone who catfished her or if the whole thing was entirely in her head and there was no relationship with anyone at all, let alone a stalker.
"Of course the catfish is from Alberta! ...don't think too much about that, Albertans." As someone from Ontario, I get it. ETA: Gotta love all the Canadians, especially the Albertans, just going, "...yeah." 😂😅
My catfish story (it's a bit long) It so happened that immediately after I broke up with an abusive ex, a girl who wanted friendship wrote to me in private messages. I was very lonely, so I agreed to chat, although I immediately felt uncomfortable when the girl named the city she was from. An old "acquaintance" of mine was from this town, whom I met online in my senior year when I was 16 and he was 19. Our acquaintance got to the point where he talked me into regularly sending him intimate photos, over a long period of time. So, I chatted with this girl for exactly a month, and tried to calm my paranoia, because I often get paranoid for no reason. However, after a month, the girl started sending me clothes and asking for photos in them. And when I asked a basic question to prove that she is she, the "girl" slipped up. That's how I found out that, as I knew from the first day, but I didn't want to believe it, this guy, whom I blocked in all social networks 6 years before, was talking to me. We have known each other for 7 years, although I have never seen him in person, I was afraid of this man almost from the beginning, but I was still a child, and I could not just stop communicating with him. The whole catfishing thing happened a year ago, and half a year ago he found me on Instagram, tried to beg for forgiveness, boasted that he had never shared my underage nude photos (as if this was not the basic minimum of humanity and common sense), and also offered to pay for sessions with a psychologist, and anti-depressants if it will help me continue to communicate with him, because "it will help both of us if we are friends or even something more". When I saw his message on Instagram, I actually had a panic attack. Moral of the story - trust your gut, check what it tells you, and be careful. And don't send nude photos, especially underage.
I hope you are you are well today. That's a saddening story thank you for telling it, are you safe now? Hopefully there were repercussions for that guy's despicable actions
@@legzfalloffgirl5148 First of all, I'm from Ukraine, and I'm not sure that similar cases are considered in our country. And even if it is, now is definitely not the time to add police jobs, they have bigger problems than me. I know for a fact that this person doesn't know my location, and that's enough for me at the moment. After he wrote me the last time on Instagram, I spent the entire evening talking to him, trying to explain how bad he was affecting me. I'm not going to make excuses for him, but I still think he really didn't realize that he was really screwing up my mental health. I'd say he's stupid enough not to realize and not smart enough to plan a multi-layered lie. But the main thing is that he has not tried to contact me since then, and even then he promised that he will not try to catfish me again (again, as if this is not basic common sense. and even funnier that he wrote this to me from a fake profile). I'm very careful with strangers online, but I don't know anything about him other than his name and city, so it would be incredibly difficult to prove the case in court
@@yulia_plat I'd be careful, okay? There's this common myth that men are too stupid to understand what makes women uncomfortable. And predators use this lie to get away with causing a great deal of harm. You already blocked him on all socials, so he created a fake account to get close to you. He understands exactly what he's doing. He knows you don't want to be in contact with him and regardless of what he says, he's proven through his actions that he does not care how you feel. Think about all the effort it takes to deceive you for an extended period of time. All the opportunities he had to come clean that he did not take. I suspect what is going to happen is he will disappear for a period of time- long enough for you to let your guard down. Then he'll approach you again, through another fake account and the next time could be worse. I hope you'll at least consider talking to family and friends, because behavior like this thrives on the victim being isolated.
In all the years of Catfish being on air, this is still my favorite episode. I can’t not watch it if it’s on. I remember when Nev was on ridiculousness he did mention that because that episode gained popularity Spencer was hopeful it would get Katy’s attention for him.
That’s just sad. I mean, in any other circumstance it might be considered cute or romantic, but I just feel bad for him (and also for Katy, because from her pov that’s just creepy as fuck) and I hope he’s doing better now…
@@billyalarie929 he is unfortunately not he still believe this katyu parry thing a Budy of mine knows him he said last he saw him he was still on the Katy Perry train
I want to know his reaction to Katy and Orlando being engaged and her having a baby with him. When the engagement announcement first came out my first thought was "what does the Catfish guy think about this"?
This reminds me of a Dr Phil episode with a woman convinced she was married or engaged to Tyler Perry. Dr Phil even mentioned being Tyler’s close friend. I wish he had Tyler mention not knowing this woman.
Honestly I kinda feel sorry for Harriet, what she did was wrong yes but she seemed to legitimately appreciate having this guy to talk to as a friend. But then when she feels she can be open and truthful with him finally he shows her how truly deluded he is by sending those creepy “I know you’re real Katy, I know you’re real!” texts which would make me as a person either think 1. Oh god I broke this poor man, what have I done? Or 2. Oh shit, this guy I’ve been online friends with for 6 years is a complete maniac, what have I gotten myself into?
Should be noted while I don't remember where so can't provide a source, so fair if people want to take it with a graint of salt. But despite how it came off at the end of the show, after it she was apparently on social media bragging about "who's the best catfish ever!" which kind of makes it hard to feel bad for her. Yeah, I can buy she was real young and answered yes on a whim not seeing the harm in it then by the time she realized she probably should have not done it it got our of control. But she didn't seem to have much remorse.
@@mrcritical6751 I guess we could argue she was 18 then and would be almost 25 now. So it is possible by this point she has grown up enough to not be proud of herself. But still yeah if she was 12 or 13 some would argue she was not mature enough to see the harm in it (sure starting out she didn't think about it continuing for 6 years either). But 18 is more than old enough to know it was nothing to be proud of. I mean, I hope she has matured enough to finally realize she was wrong, but she should have been mature enough to figure that out at 18.
Oh yeah, boy, I remember this episode! Poor fella really believed it- denial central. The real culprit said it wasn't Katie Perry. Later in an interview even Katie Perry herself said it wasn't Katie Perry. This dude? He's tardy to the party and probably still thinks he's dating Katie freaking Perry! It's actually kinda sad.
This reminds me of those scams with misspellings to lure in gullible people. Her ruse was really bad but it worked. I think Spencer is somewhere on the spectrum, based on how he’s looking and talking to her. The monotone, matter-of-fact voice, lack of expression. I do feel kind of bad for him.. it seems obvious to us but that’s why we’re not being catfished by fake celebrity accounts.
So some info about how this show works: The catfish is actually the one calling the show to tell their story, usually because they want to put an end to what they started. The crew then do a little investigation to know if the story is worth telling on TV, contact the victim, who are then made perfectly aware off camera that they've been catfished, and write a script where the victim is presented as the protagonist with a mystery to solve. This is because this is reality TV. The facts behind the story are real, the people are real, but the story itself is reworked in a way to work on TV and be sure everybody is okay with appearing on TV, with signed papers and stuff. This is why Spencer already had his passeport and was so quickly ready to visit England. But he potentially had no clue about being catfished before being contacted, because Harriet is the one who called MTV.
I never believed on this episode until this year that a story became viral here in Brazil because a Italian guy passed 15 years of his life thinking that he was dating the model Alessandra Ambrosio... So I thought "hhhm, so it actually happens!"
Sim! Lembro dessa história, que doideira... Tenho pena dessas pessoas, entrado tão fundo na própria ilusão que se blindam de ver a verdade. E também deve ser assustador pra celebridade ou pessoa que teve a identidade/fotos roubadas.
I've always thought he's got something going on. At that point its more than being gullible. Also, I think he was straight up lying to Nev and Max at the end. People with delusions tend to pretend they're fine. Wouldnt be surprised if he was still trying to find Katy. And with the popularity of the episode, I bet he's had lots of people trying to take advantage of him
THANK YOU!! I’ve been scrolling too long through the comments looking for a mention that he may have some underlying mental health issue/neurodivergence- of course that is not a bad thing and not his fault, but I’m just surprised that more people aren’t suggesting that and thus being more compassionate.
I forget the episode title buy I remember it being one cousin catfishing another cousin and it was all because "you called me and overweight Kelly Price"
couldn't the fake Katie simply have sent a message through the app or service they were using right there and then to prove it was her? something like "I'm standing right in front of you, I'm not Katie"?
When I was eleven I helped my friend catfish boys before I knew what catfishing was. She said that it was okay because when she was going to meet whatever guy she was talking to she'd look like the girl in the picture. Looking back it was both sad and funny on both ends. I don't think the guys were asking for video calls, though, so I think it was a mutual catfish situation 😅
If this is real I would guess he just wanted to meet Katy Perry and figured if he went along with the catfish long enough they'd get Katy to come and tell him in person she's not talking to him online.
It's not just online. It happens in offline life too. This guy from school, never had a single class with him. Never even saw his face or know his name. I was apparently in relationship with him because of 1 time laughed & waved at him. In reality I was driving laughing with my friends and moving my hand while talking. 😑 some people are just delusional.
This freaked me out because I dated someone who developed issues while we were together and they became entirely disconnected from reality. So I was wondering if this person was going to end up having some mental health issues. Stuff like this is frightening to me (I have been stalked as well), but I am really glad you are able to find a bit of humor and insight as well. 🌻
I love Catfish and I love your reactions. Typically I watch videos of yours on things I haven't seen like movies and it's extra fun to see you react to stuff I have watched. I recommend my favorite episode Kayla & Courtney. (it's the only one of the series like it so that I've seen) Also as a youtuber I am interested in your reaction to the episode Andrea, Alex & Andrea.
I knew someone really similar to this, not to this extent but if a celebrity she liked did something that she’s done or simply looks her way they had to be in love with her. It’s hard and sad cause you see what’s going on but you don’t want to be the one to call them out cause that would either hurt them or make them flip.
There's one episode where a girl was convinced that another girl she had never met in person or facetimed with before had gotten them a surrogate to have a baby. (S7, Ep 11) A level of delusion that almost matches this episode's. There's also a "sugar baby" episode that was co-hosted with Jim Carrey's daughter.
I have nothing to add to this beyond Amanda's pronunciation of "Gloucester" being absolutely perfect trolling. It's one of those words like Worcester, where the English say "GLOSS-ter" (or WUSS-ter), and hearing a Canadian try it is fantastic.
This is way more entertaining for me than actually watching reality television and you can bet I'll eat up any more reaction videos to Catfish that you do
I adore the way you pronounced Gloucester, however as a pedantic Brit, it’s actually more like “Gloss-ter”. Very weird, I totally understand the mistake, I think I like the way you said it more tbh!
Yeah but at least in that the woman was a shapeshifter, she was able to physically appear as Megan Thee Stallion to make him believe that. This guy is so delusional that he thought the voice of a young potentially underage Canadian girl was Katy Perry’s
This was such an iconic episode. So much of Catfish is just the same thing over and over again, but there there's those standout episodes that are just 😙🤌
I think the reason they didn't have Katy actually show up on the show is that I think that because he was so obsessed with Katy Perry and that he was doing everything to try and have that relationship be real that having her show up would have supported his delusions in some way or in another light the whole catfish Katy could have been used as a ploy (like he knew it wasn't actually her but could use it to get her attention) to meet the real katy cuz he's just plain obsessed with her in general
I feel bad for both of them honestly. He’s obviously very deluded (or was) and she clearly has self esteem issues which made her prolong his delusion. All in all super sad for everyone involved hoping these people have made progress since then
There is such thing as catfish fetish, some man get off from a fact that somebody does that to them. I think it is in this case to some degree at least.
As someone who was a victim to a catfish scam, I can understand the cognitive dissonance the guy was going through. Even when you know it's a scam, there is a need to keep believing because you don't want to admit to being fooled so badly. I honestly think it would have been better to be robbed at gunpoint then to feel like an idiot.
This made me feel really bad for the guy I essentially catfished when I was a teen. I didn't want my real identity on the Internet, so I lied about my age, made up a job and used pictures of some stranger on one of those party photographer websites. I really liked the escape from reality and I enjoyed discussing stuff and being taken seriously by him. But I was 16 and he was 25. When he wanted to meet me, I essentially told him that I had lied a lot and blocked him everywhere, freaking out about what I had done. This was three months, not six years... And I am still a little sorry, since he did develop a crush on this fictional woman.
I had an online acquaintance who almost had me thinking I was talking to David Bowie about ten years ago. Almost...because in the back of my mind I knew THE David Bowie wouldn't talk to a peasant like me. A mutual friend told me the person talking to me was cat-fishing other people with David Bowie stuff and I wasn't the only one. When I found out it wasn't him, instead of being devastated I just felt kinda stupid. She was pretending he was her cousin. I should have known immediately when she asked me to start writing sexy fanfiction starring his character from The Hunger. Duh.
Hi! Big fan! If you're going to do more Catfish reactions, you should do the 2012 episode on Jasmine and Mike. That episode spawned the iconic "but you did this for what?" "why not" argument. It still cracks me up to this day.
I’ve never watched Catfish, but in your previous video, you mentioned that sometimes it was the catfish who contacted the show but the episode “story” was reverse-engineered to act like that wasn’t the case, and I can’t help but wonder if Harriet contacted the show because maybe she was trying to come clean to Spencer but he didn’t believe her, so she thought getting the two of them on the show might knock reality into him. I just can’t imagine Spencer would contact Catfish and cast doubt on his relationship, but I can imagine him not believing Harriet trying to be honest with him, so she tried this as a last resort, and he went along with it thinking it was a set-up by Katy to meet in spectacular fashion or something.
Omg yes I was so hoping this would be the next one you covered. I remember it being so wild back in the day 😂 Also if you want a suggestion for an actually sort of feel good episode for the holidays, I think you might like S4E8. It has gays and it's known for catfishing the show itself
There was one episode where someone thought they were talking to Bow Wow. I actually felt more sympathy for her belief, since the person obviously pretending to be Bow Wow was sending her MONEY! So like... I guess that makes it more believable!

A buddy of mine worked on this show and said this guy was one of the only ones he knew of that just straight up could NOT be convinced he had been catfished no matter how hard they tried, even after they wrapped the episode 😬
aww damn that's just sad I really thought he'd come around
Sounds like he might have an actual delusion - I mean, that’s a level of reality denial that’s…unusual
@@AmandaTheJedi ok that guy seriously needs help.
Like someone writing you(r wife) your own personal self insert fanfic!
You and your wife sound like you have a great sense of humor, I love it
Why is ur wife flirting with dudes online? Not enough to please her?
I knew somebody who used to work at a restaurant where Marc would go & she'd probably laugh if she read your wife's story.
That honestly sounds fun XD
I used to be a “site model” on MySpace (back in the scene queen era) and I’d see so many fake profiles made of me, but one in particular made me feel really uneasy, they had gathered a huge following of a few thousand. A guy ended up messaging me one day saying he’s been dating who he thought was me for 3 years and the poor guy was hoping to build some type of bond with me, I had no interest in him and he was making me feel like I owed him my attention since it was my photos that fooled him. This doesn’t have anything to do with anything, just wanted to share lol.
I'm so sorry this happened to you. I always thought how scary it must be for the people who's photos are stolen. I hope you're ok now
Man, things were fucking AWFUL back then….. it’s not much better these days for women who are influencer types and adjacent, but BOY HOWDY I watched some of that, and I remember feeling downright SHAMED for feeling bad for some of y’all, so I kept quiet about it for the most part. But I always felt like you young women were getting the shit end of the stick and I wanna apologize profusely for not speaking up more against the kinds of abuse young women of your ilk and status had to go through. :/
Oh wow that is frightening 😪
I’m so sorry that happened to you!!
I found several fake profiles of my a MySpace in its hey day. I always worried people had full on relationships with someone pretending to be me… :/
Catfish makes Riverdale look like the most normal TV show in history
Right! At least Riverdale is supposed be fiction lol. This is allegedly reality 😂
When any story created by the creators of Riverdale is more believable then Katy Perry leaving Mr Bloom
It makes Dr. Pimple Popper look like Arthur!

I knew a girl who was actually named Katherine Perry & went by Katie. Roll call was always fun because professors would call “Katherine Perry?” And she’d say “Oh, that’s me. I go by..Katie…actually.”
And they’d usually respond with some variation of “Ok, I’ll make a note. You’re not Katherine, you’re Katie…Perry. Katie Perry. Huh.”
Did she ever have to specify the spelling?

@@stevek4070 or they fabricate a story
"My heart goes out to this guy..." Katy
This guy- "I KNEW IT"
This was my thought too.
I'll never forget when Katy herself came out to confirm that it wasn't her. I fear he still thinks it's her. 🙁
I'm surprised she even confirmed it. There is no chance a celebrity is going to show up or get involved with someone who "has feelings" for them when the two have never connected in any way.
"she was just shy and couldn't admit to our relationship in public" - what the guy probably thought.
@@benzaiten933 exactly what I thought

@@benzaiten933 unfortunately
Low and behold
I got blocked because: this guy found out that our mutal friend, F, spoke to her ex boyfriend, L, and then was so incredibly pissed off at me.
Then again, maybe it was about the laptop that he essencially stole from F's parents and bragged to me about it. I told F, F might have told L and L could have been like 'fam, this is unacceptable'. So who knows. Fun times.
@@elyaequestus1409 this story took a lot of turns and i don't even know what the context is.
Why TF was it so hard to prove he was being catfished? Ask her to open the app, have him send "Katy" a message, and watch it show up on her phone. You literally have the entire means of their communication in your hands, you dopes.
He would find a reason why
He didn't logic himself into believing he was dating Perry. Logic isn't what is going to convince him he's not. Some very intense therapy and probably some medication to correct whatever's going wrong in his brain is what will help.
Maybe he called the show hoping they would get him in touch with the real Katy Perry and she would fall in love with him
@@prettyevil6662000 I mean, I definitely agree that he could do with therapy, and maybe meds if his doctor thinks he needs it, but he doesn't show signs of psychosis. Just being horribly gullible and having desperate, unhealthy social relationship habits.
My statement doesn't, by default, denounce him getting help. Jeeze.
@@DANNYTHEFROG123 Now that would be a plot twist.
If it’s a Catfish episode about Katy Perry, it’s actually called Katefish.
Booo! Get out! Boooooo! I'm upvoting you but get out and think about what you've done.
Oh wow- what ended up happening with your uncle? Is he doing better now?
Have you thought about applying him to the show?
Now I’m trying to figure out who it was. 😂
this is just reminding me of that time i had a colleague whose actual name was katie perry and resented that the singer chose that as a stage name.
I said Rachel Ray, and my mom's friend thought this little kid made up that they meet a tv star
this is actually the second comment i saw about a person named katie perry. i wonder if you knew the same one or its a coincidence (much more likely)
Amanda kneeling and desperately begging “my queen”… will forever live rent free in my head 😂😂😂
Also, Orlando was a pirate…. stealing that booty 😂😒… I’ll show myself out.
What episode is that?
It amazes me how people who go on this show are so in love with a person they've never even met in person. Then when they realize they've been catfished all those feelings of love just evaporate.
Honestly it's a curious thing how quickly things can change
I think realizing it was all a lie, and the sense of betrayal can make that love turn into hate, anger and disgust real quick. At least initially
I mean when you realize the person you thought you were in-love with etc. & the whole "relationship" is based on lies... that 100% changes things.
Because it’s not love it’s infatuation. To be in love with someone is to know them and accept the fully. Infatuation is an intense passion or desire for someone, and is more about looks and chemistry. That’s why “love at first sight” is not real, and should be called “infatuation at first sight”.
They're in love with the image they created in their head, that when reality strikes, the illusion fades away.
PLEASE do Season 3, episode 2: Antwane & Tony

I mean... he was duped by “Ah yes, I am Katy Perry” without further proof needed. I think it would’ve been hard to undo regardless if it had been 6 years.
tbf it probably would have been dangerous for Katy Perry to meet up with this delusional guy, and her putting in the effort to meet him would probably just have convinced him even more that he really had been talking to her

Holy shit. What the actual fuck is wrong with some people?
Yikes, gross
Ohh yes the "it was an experiment" guy
Ew....
Is it true they said she was 18 when the episode was filmed? If so, that would've made her 12 when she started catfishing him.
It guess it's a good thing she didn't send him pictures.
What a good brother indeed! If that was my brother who told me that I would’ve laughed in his face.
Tbh I don't think the delusion will ever drop for him, he'll always find a way to believe it's Katy, it's kinda sad and very deranged

My catfish story (it's a bit long)
It so happened that immediately after I broke up with an abusive ex, a girl who wanted friendship wrote to me in private messages.
You can still press charges and/or get a restraining order to make yourself feel safe

Well that was intense.
I wonder if he still thinks this was Katy's cute way of pranking him. 😶

Ok, but what if it *was* Katy Perry? Like in another 20 years she comes out and says “oh, yeah, that was totally me f*king with that Catfish guy.”
Then she’d likely get cancelled up the wahzoo for taking advantage of a man who was clearly mentally unstable
Don’t think I’ll ever get over the way Amanda pronounced Gloucester😭
This is just so sad. Poor guy obviously has some problems.
couldn't the fake Katie simply have sent a message through the app or service they were using right there and then to prove it was her? something like "I'm standing right in front of you, I'm not Katie"?
Sounds easy. But at the same time, I have a feeling he still wouldn’t have believed it even then, because he doesn’t want to believe. 🤷🏼♀️

Really like seeing these Catfish episodes! I hope to see more :D
I thought the same thing! Also I think Ive driven past some of those filming locations so that was weird!
This is like that She-Hulk episode where the guy thought he was dating Megan Thee Stallion
I honest to god love the way you call out the names for your sponsors XD
I feel bad for both of them honestly. He’s obviously very deluded (or was) and she clearly has self esteem issues which made her prolong his delusion. All in all super sad for everyone involved hoping these people have made progress since then
This is my dad’s FAVORITE episode lol I’m so glad you watched this one
09:51 I need more details about this Canadian hate against Alberta 😂
Are we sure harriet is not a hired actresss, so katy wouldnt have to reveal on television she was cheating on orlando? 😂
Don't give him any dangerous ideas to laugh onto lol
There is such thing as catfish fetish, some man get off from a fact that somebody does that to them. I think it is in this case to some degree at least.
"It may be snowing out but it's tropical in my heart". Lol SAME!!!!!
Damn 2010 was really the peak of existence
Edit: after watching 5 minutes of this video, I can only ask you keep doing catfish episodes 🙏🏻
I first watched this episode yearssss ago and it has always stuck with me. The man really truly never believed that he'd been catfished 😐😐
This dudes biggest problem isn’t that he got catfished. It’s that he’s completely delusional.
Duh.
"This actual human being, as weird and crazy as he might be, has a heart".... This whole episode is bonkers! LOL
Totally off topic, but I LOVE that Amanda is repin' the Mista GG merch!!!
Hi! Big fan! If you're going to do more Catfish reactions, you should do the 2012 episode on Jasmine and Mike. That episode spawned the iconic "but you did this for what?" "why not" argument. It still cracks me up to this day.
Bless this poor guy's heart, I just want to take him aside and gently explain to him that people lie on the internet sometimes.
He needs a therapist, love....
You HAVE to do jasmine and Mike. The “hello jasmine” is so iconic.
"Is this Gramma's ring? The one I couldn't give to MY wife? Because YOU had it?!"
Amandaaaaa
When you took a knee to imitate Spencer proposing I lost it... I almost fell to the floor girl
Omg yes I was so hoping this would be the next one you covered. I remember it being so wild back in the day 😂
Also if you want a suggestion for an actually sort of feel good episode for the holidays, I think you might like S4E8. It has gays and it's known for catfishing the show itself
I know Amanda is in love with me specifically because she said green heart. Our wedding is set for this February.
There was one episode where someone thought they were talking to Bow Wow. I actually felt more sympathy for her belief, since the person obviously pretending to be Bow Wow was sending her MONEY! So like... I guess that makes it more believable!
11:31 this is EXACTLY how I’m trying not to bust up laughing and wake up my sleeping baby lmao
