Thanks to your video I was able to partition a 64GB SanDisk into 80% external storage and 20% internal storage. I was able to move an App on my device to the USB with X-plorer by moving the App (apk) to the Download folder and installing it from there.

I just tried my 256gb USB 3.0 key/thumb drive, and I now see “245 GB available” in the My Fire TV menu, under USB Drive. I tried to move a 3rd party app to my USB Storage, as per your recent video using the X-plore app. After I followed all of your instructions, I checked under the Applications, Manage Installed Applications menu, and I now see the USB icon next to the name of the app. Thank you for your help.👍😀

I have a Fire Tv cube, software version os7.2.3.4. I am using a Ugreen OTG and my external storage is a Scandisk usb 3.0flash drive 128 GB. I have formatted the usb to Fat 32. When I plug everything in I don’t get the usb prompt could you help me with this.
There are a few things you can try: 1) Unplug it from the power supply and unplug your power supply from the power source. Wait at least 30 seconds then re-boot everything and try again. 2) Do you have an alternative USB storage device you can use to try this with instead? 3) Do you have an alternative OTG cable/adapter you can try? 4) Are you sure you have everything connected with the uGreen correctly?

If it's not automatically detecting the storage, try going into your Firestick Settings / My Fire TV / About / Storage - There may be an option here to manually format the storage if it is recognised.

Thank you SOOOO😂 much. I didn't know what in the hell to do with the gizmo the Amazon tech told me to buy to add external storage (128 Gb per Amazon recommendation). The two little gizmos came with absolutely no instructions with how to use them. It's the kind with a female micro USB port in the thingy, a male micro USB plug sticking out at a 90° angle, and a 3.0 female USB port at one end to accept the flashdrive to store apps. Without your help I would still be tearing my hair out trying to get my FireStick Lite to recognize my flashdrive as external storage. ¡Much as gracias señorita!

However, I have just purchased a Firestick Vers 7, I have two dongles, two adaptors and a Sandisk 32gb pen drive, I also used a 1amp pluig and tried a new 2amp plug. I have been through your process numerous times but alas to no avail, none of the attempts were succesful. I cannot imagine that all four of the dongles and adaptors are faulty. I have triple checked everything as you suggested on each attempt. Helllllllpppp! ;-)
Yes it does, but remember that the steps in this video are for Fire OS 7 devices. Even if you have the updated layout on your 4K Firestick, it still runs Fire OS 6 so you need to watch my other tutorial for adding storage for Fire OS 6 devices. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
Followed this advice on an Insignia Fire TV which runs V7. After following the instructions for device storage it initially shows as 0B. A power down corrects this. Now showing most of the 16GB as available. Used a PNY USB 2 stick. Only disappointment is that only 2 apps from my list will transfer (Pandora, Paramount+). Was hoping for more since the Insignia only has 4GB of internal storage to start.

Newer Firesticks run on Fire OS 7, which has the functionality of being able to recognise and add storage when you plug it in. The 4K Firestick is running Fire OS 6 and does not support this feature and never will (as far as I am aware) as the 4K Firestick will always stay on Fire OS 6. For this reason, you will need to run the ADB steps to expand the storage on the 4K Firestick. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
Question??? You know a command to format the external storage using the firestick 4k?? I was having problem with my firestick I have to see restore default on my firestick. Is their a way restore default both firestick and flash drive at the same time...
When you repeat the process to expand the storage on your 4K Firestick, entering the command line in ADB might take care of the formatting for you. It does not work in every case but it is worth giving it a try. Hello, the first thing I have to say is that Congratulations for the video because it is very didactic, very well explained and I had been looking for days how to do what you explain in the video. Just one question: When you do the process to configure the usb as mixed storage (with the adb command) how is the usb formatted? 1. All fat32? 2. The part that is used to install applications in fat32 and the other part in another format?
I have tried this in the past but some of the apps I put on the USB took an age to open. I went back to normal and just stopped any updates. I then deleted certain files which were not needed and now have plenty of space. Works for me anyway.
Yes, that is an issue as I stated in this vide. Users need to be aware that with this process, your Fire TV device is likely to run slower when launching apps and moving around the menus as files on your USB storage cannot be read as fast as they can be read directly on the internal device storage. The only question I have is why in "Manage Installed Applications" on the FireStick it shows the correct External Space but NOT the correct Internal Space? I used a new SanDist 64GB USB 2.0 flash drive on a FireStick 4K Max. It shows as the internal at 1.42 GB and the external at 28.88 GB of remaining storage. I don't know what happen to the other 30 GB which should be going to the internal space. I have been successful downloading some applications to the USB flash drive. Uninstall any applications that are installed onto your external storage. Remove the power from your Firestick. Remove the external storage. Power your Firestick back up. Process reverted! You can format your USB storage to use for other things. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

The 4K Firestick is based on Android 7.1 and runs Fire OS 6. The new Firesticks and the 2nd Gen Fire Cube is based on Android 9.0 and runs Fire OS 7. I assume that the 4K Firestick, being based on Android 7.1 is not capable of being upgraded to Fire OS 7 as it would also need to be upgraded through Android 8 up to Android 9.0 and there may not be an easy way of doing this on the 4K Firestick. Great info Tanya - many thanks. I had a faulty adaptor - rectified by the OTG cable you recommended. I can now get the video recording no problem. What I cannot resolve is that every recording fails to pick up the audio track - just the video element. It happens across all sources - from live TV through to Premium streaming channels. Fyi..I tried using this method on my new 4k Max (OS8) and it didn't work. Everything went fine until I tried to move Apps with Xplore. The process seemed to work but when I checked in manage applications there was no USB icon next to the name of the app I moved... All well, I have 45 apps loaded with 8.5 Gb remaining guess I'll get a smaller USB (8 or 16 Gb) and format it to system storage using the built-in option. 😊

No, if you add internal storage, this storage won't be accessible to your recordings as you cannot create a pathway to it. You would just need to use it as general storage and then set the recording path to your external drive. Hi Tanya. I have Firetv Cube running OS 7.2.4.2. Have no problem adding 32gb added storage just to run apps from it on device storage. However I tried to increase to 128gb and the new usb is not recognised. Nothing shows. It just comes up with no external storage located. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
It is probably because the 128GB USB drive is formatted to exFAT and storage can only be recognised by Fire OS in FAT32 format. Wonderful details. I've completed the adb process successfully. Interesting note - X-plore did see my USB until I partitioned it. I set up 90gb for system storage. Yet, I'm still getting low memory and slow responses. Been through a number of the videos looking for suggestions - any help is appreciated.
Some apk’s will only install to the internal storage because of limitations within the coding of those apps. If you heavily use these apps, or install lots more apps, your internal storage will start to fill. Installation files for apk’s may be stored on your internal storage once the app has been installed, again, taking up internal space. When you use apps, data gets stored on your internal storage and cache will get created and this is also stored onto the internal storage, this will also decrease your internal storage. On a regular basis, you need to have a clean up of your Firestick internal storage and there are few things that you need to do. I am trying to add external storage to my os7 fire stick. With the AOEMEI partition, is added to the firestick or the computer. I don't remember you saying when to add the external hard drive.
Tanya hey hun got a question for you. I have a firestick 4k running OS 6.2.8.0. When using a OTG dongle it wont recognize my Sandisk 64gb 3.0 thumb drive. If I hook up my USB green splitter and hook up the same thumb drive it will show that it has apps stored on it. Also the firestick wont recognize that Im using a USB external storage like your lite did and I have the new layout. What am I doing wrong???
You could be having issues with the OTG dongle not recognising your SanDisk because the dongle is broken or corrupt? It's obviously not an issues with your thumb drive because the UGreen recognises it. I would try a different OTG adapter or cable. The Firestick Lite runs on Fire OS 7, which has the added functionality of being able to recognise and add storage when you plug it in. The 4K Firestick is on Fire OS 6 and does not support this feature and never will (as far as I am aware) as the 4K Firestick will always stay on Fire OS 6. I hope this helps. No. Once you set it to device storage you may not be able to run any ADB commands unless you re-format the USB - losing any data or apps you have installed on it. If you want to partition mixed, cancel any pop ups on screen asking if you want to format your USB. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

X-plore may not recognise the additional added system storage as this becomes inaccessible when it's being used by the system. If you are running Fire OS 7 you should be able to see the additional storage within the Fire TV settings. I will have a good play around with it and do several re-start before I make up my mind what to do with it. Perhaps the ssd and caching needs to optimize?? this sm partition 50 mixed only works to run apps but it does not let me download to my usb stick , all the files go to internal not to my usb drive. when i download my internal gets smaller this does work on the firestick....
When you are downloading, you need to tell whatever program you are using the path you wish it to download to within the settings. So in your case, you would need to change your download path to the external storage location. However, these settings cannot always be changed within all apps. I reset my Firestick 4k Max last week since then I haven't gotten a USB Storage recognition and I don't get a message on what to do with the storage anymore. My OS is 7.6.6.4 and all my hookups are correct. I have a Mission Power Cable, OTG cable, and a 3.0 SanDisk Flashdrive and I've tried others but to no avail. But like I said in the beginning it worked before my factory reset of my Firestick 4k Max

Not sure what happened. I've tried several video's and I still can not add internal space to my cube. I'm using a 128k flash drive. It will loads external.
New cable, new usb flash stick and it still doesn't work. It just keeps looping the option of what you want to use the usb stick for over and over. Like its losing the connection to the drive or something, I give up I'm done!
There shouldn't be any issues with doing this on a Fire Cube as the process is automatic. There are a few things you can try, but I understand you want to give up and I respect that. I really appreciate the clear presentation. I tried to implement the option where I would split the USB into 20% external system storage, and 80% external. I do see the 80%, but the 20% system storage does not appear. Can you help? I am using a 4k max FS, os 7, the wired version of the OTG adapter, a 160 gb usb hard drive. I am working with new firestick 4k max. I have attached a 256 gig san disk and I have used xplorer program to move all the apps from the internal firestick memory to my large usb disk. Problem is when i record on tivimate and save the file to my usb memory, it doesn't take the memory and place it on the large usb. It uses the internal space of the firestick to take away the memory involved in the video. this makes my firestick run out of memory and i have to uninstal the movie to get the space back again. Where shoud I direct tivimate to send recorded files. I am using download, adroid, tivimate and movie now. What can I do to have it put the movie file into my large insternal usb drive? FYI, I love your channel and have been a long time watcher. You cenratinly have a way to show us how to get around all the firsticks tricks. I haven't found one of your videos that answer my question so i hope you can help.
You need to do the MIXED option with ADB Shell. You will then have a partition of your storage that will be accessible by Tivimate. You will then be able to go into your Tivimate settings and change your download location to your external storage. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

I tried to move a 3rd party app to my USB Storage, as per your recent video using the X-plore app. After I followed all of your instructions, I checked under the Applications, Manage Installed Applications menu, and I now see the USB icon next to the name of the app. Thank you for your help.👍😀

I have a Fire Tv cube, software version os7.2.3.4. I am using a Ugreen OTG and my external storage is a Scandisk usb 3.0flash drive 128 GB. I have formatted the usb to Fat 32. When I plug everything in I don’t get the usb prompt could you help me with this.
Same Issue
There are a few things you can try:
1) Unplug it from the power supply and unplug your power supply from the power source. Wait at least 30 seconds then re-boot everything and try again.
2) Do you have an alternative USB storage device you can use to try this with instead?
3) Do you have an alternative OTG cable/adapter you can try?
4) Are you sure you have everything connected with the uGreen correctly?

If it's not automatically detecting the storage, try going into your Firestick Settings / My Fire TV / About / Storage - There may be an option here to manually format the storage if it is recognised.

Thank you SOOOO😂 much. I didn't know what in the hell to do with the gizmo the Amazon tech told me to buy to add external storage (128 Gb per Amazon recommendation). The two little gizmos came with absolutely no instructions with how to use them. It's the kind with a female micro USB port in the thingy, a male micro USB plug sticking out at a 90° angle, and a 3.0 female USB port at one end to accept the flashdrive to store apps. Without your help I would still be tearing my hair out trying to get my FireStick Lite to recognize my flashdrive as external storage. ¡Much as gracias señorita!

However, I have just purchased a Firestick Vers 7, I have two dongles, two adaptors and a Sandisk 32gb pen drive, I also used a 1amp pluig and tried a new 2amp plug. I have been through your process numerous times but alas to no avail, none of the attempts were succesful. I cannot imagine that all four of the dongles and adaptors are faulty. I have triple checked everything as you suggested on each attempt. Helllllllpppp! ;-)

Followed this advice on an Insignia Fire TV which runs V7. After following the instructions for device storage it initially shows as 0B. A power down corrects this. Now showing most of the 16GB as available. Used a PNY USB 2 stick. Only disappointment is that only 2 apps from my list will transfer (Pandora, Paramount+). Was hoping for more since the Insignia only has 4GB of internal storage to start.

Newer Firesticks run on Fire OS 7, which has the functionality of being able to recognise and add storage when you plug it in.
The 4K Firestick is running Fire OS 6 and does not support this feature and never will (as far as I am aware) as the 4K Firestick will always stay on Fire OS 6. When you repeat the process to expand the storage on your 4K Firestick, entering the command line in ADB might take care of the formatting for you. It does not work in every case but it is worth giving it a try. I have tried this in the past but some of the apps I put on the USB took an age to open. I went back to normal and just stopped any updates. I then deleted certain files which were not needed and now have plenty of space. Works for me anyway.
Yes, that is an issue as I stated in this vide. Users need to be aware that with this process, your Fire TV device is likely to run slower when launching apps and moving around the menus as files on your USB storage cannot be read as fast as they can be read directly on the internal device storage. The only question I have is why in "Manage Installed Applications" on the FireStick it shows the correct External Space but NOT the correct Internal Space? I used a new SanDist 64GB USB 2.0 flash drive on a FireStick 4K Max. It shows as the internal at 1.42 GB and the external at 28.88 GB of remaining storage. I don't know what happen to the other 30 GB which should be going to the internal space. I have been successful downloading some applications to the USB flash drive. The 4K Firestick is based on Android 7.1 and runs Fire OS 6.
The new Firesticks and the 2nd Gen Fire Cube is based on Android 9.0 and runs Fire OS 7.
I assume that the 4K Firestick, being based on Android 7.1 is not capable of being upgraded to Fire OS 7 as it would also need to be upgraded through Android 8 up to Android 9.0 and there may not be an easy way of doing this on the 4K Firestick.

I am using a 4k max stick, os 7, with an OTG adapter and a 64 GB USB drive. My USB drive has already some apps downloaded. Now, I want to allocate some Gb to the system storage. I can now get the video recording no problem. What I cannot resolve is that every recording fails to pick up the audio track - just the video element. It happens across all sources - from live TV through to Premium streaming channels. I've tried all settings without success>

Fyi..I tried using this method on my new 4k Max (OS8) and it didn't work. Everything went fine until I tried to move Apps with Xplore. The process seemed to work but when I checked in manage applications there was no USB icon next to the name of the app I moved... All well, I have 45 apps loaded with 8.5 Gb remaining guess I'll get a smaller USB (8 or 16 Gb) and format it to system storage using the built-in option. 😊

No, if you add internal storage, this storage won't be accessible to your recordings as you cannot create a pathway to it.

Hi Tanya. I have Firetv Cube running OS 7.2.4.2. Have no problem adding 32gb added storage just to run apps from it on device storage. However I tried to increase to 128gb and the new usb is not recognised. Nothing shows. It just comes up with no external storage located. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
It is probably because the 128GB USB drive is formatted to exFAT and storage can only be recognised by Fire OS in FAT32 format. You will need to format your USB storage to FAT32 and it will be recognised. Follow the steps in the video at 23:07 - How to to format to FAT32. Hope this helps! Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

Wonderful details. I've completed the adb process successfully. Interesting note - X-plore did see my USB until I partitioned it. I set up 90gb for system storage. Yet, I'm still getting low memory and slow responses. Been through a number of the videos looking for suggestions - any help is appreciated.
Some apk’s will only install to the internal storage because of limitations within the coding of those apps. If you heavily use these apps, or install lots more apps, your internal storage will start to fill.
Installation files for apk’s may be stored on your internal storage once the app has been installed, again, taking up internal space. When you use apps, data gets stored on your internal storage and cache will get created and this is also stored onto the internal storage, this will also decrease your internal storage.

I am trying to add external storage to my os7 fire stick. With the AOEMEI partition, is added to the firestick or the computer. I don't remember you saying when to add the external hard drive.
Tanya hey hun got a question for you. I have a firestick 4k running OS 6.2.8.0. When using a OTG dongle it wont recognize my Sandisk 64gb 3.0 thumb drive. If I hook up my USB green splitter and hook up the same thumb drive it will show that it has apps stored on it. Also the firestick wont recognize that Im using a USB external storage like your lite did and I have the new layout. What am I doing wrong???
You could be having issues with the OTG dongle not recognising your SanDisk because the dongle is broken or corrupt? It's obviously not an issues with your thumb drive because the UGreen recognises it.
I would try a different OTG adapter or cable.
The Firestick Lite runs on Fire OS 7, which has the added functionality of being able to recognise and add storage when you plug it in.

No. Once you set it to device storage you may not be able to run any ADB commands unless you re-format the USB - losing any data or apps you have installed on it. If you want to partition mixed, cancel any pop ups on screen asking if you want to format your USB. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

What storage you use is down to you, but there are few things you need to consider when choosing your USB storage. I personally use and recommend the SanDisk 32GB Flash Drive

As Fire TV devices are formatted to FAT32, the maximum size of USB storage that you can use is 2TB, however, Amazon officially recommends using USB drives that are 128GB or smaller.
Amazon also recommends that high speed USB 3.0 drives are used, even though Fire TV Devices have a 2.0 USB port because USB 3.0 drives tend to have faster read/write speeds and will perform better, even when connected to USB 2.0 ports.
You also need to be aware that with this process, your Fire TV device is likely to run slower when launching apps and moving around the menus as files on your USB storage cannot be read as fast as they can be read directly on the internal device storage. Why does X-plore only show that the internal shared storage is 5GB (which only 2.8GB is available) when I formatted a 256GB USB to internal storage?
X-plore may not recognise the additional added system storage as this becomes inaccessible when it's being used by the system. If you are running Fire OS 7 you should be able to see the additional storage within the Fire TV settings.
If you want to also use part of the storage as accessible storage, you will need to create a mixed partition. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

this sm partition 50 mixed only works to run apps but it does not let me download to my usb stick , all the files go to internal not to my usb drive. when i download my internal gets smaller this does
work on the firestick....
When you are downloading, you need to tell whatever program you are using the path you wish it to download to within the settings. So in your case, you would need to change your download path to the external storage location.
However, these settings cannot always be changed within all apps. And with some applications, you will need to install a download manager to handle your downloads such as ADM which you can get from my store #71607934

Hey Tanya, my name is Michael and I'm having so many problems trying to get my USB storage recognized. I reset my Firestick 4k Max last week since then I haven't gotten a USB Storage recognition and I don't get a message on what to do with the storage anymore. My OS is 7.6.6.4 and all my hookups are correct. I have a Mission Power Cable, OTG cable, and a 3.0 SanDisk Flashdrive and I've tried others but to no avail. But like I said in the beginning it worked before my factory reset of my Firestick 4k Max

There shouldn't be any issues with doing this on a Fire Cube as the process is automatic. There are a few things you can try, but I understand you want to give up and I respect that. @@FireTVSticks Well let's put it this way, for someone that has built and setup Pcs from scratch multiple times over the years and built an entire arcade machine from scratch I'd describe myself as fairly tech proficient. There is something massively wrong either with the latest update or my firestick itself, it shouldn't be this hard. But yeah I'm more than done lol, for now at least but thanks anyway. :)
I really appreciate the clear presentation. I tried to implement the option where I would split the USB into 20% external system storage, and 80% external. I do see the 80%, but the 20% system storage does not appear. Can you help? I am using a 4k max FS, os 7, the wired version of the OTG adapter, a 160 gb usb hard drive. Hope this is enough info for you.

I don't, sorry. The commands to create the storage are shown in this video but I'm not sure of other commands.
wonderful...thanks. I have gone thru the process and all is well but I allocated 20% for internal and it doesn't show increased when I look on Xplore. The usb shows186GB which is about right but the internal still shows only 5GB. I am using a 256GB Sandisk thumbdrive. Any thoughts? thanks again for great tutorials

I am working with new firestick 4k max. I have attached a 256 gig san disk and I have used xplorer program to move all the apps from the internal firestick memory to my large usb disk. Problem is when i record on tivimate and save the file to my usb memory, it doesn't take the memory and place it on the large usb. It uses the internal space of the firestick to take away the memory involved in the video. this makes my firestick run out of memory and i have to uninstal the movie to get the space back again. Where shoud I direct tivimate to send recorded files. I am using download, adroid, tivimate and movie now. What can I do to have it put the movie file into my large insternal usb drive? FYI, I love your channel and have been a long time watcher. You cenratinly have a way to show us how to get around all the firsticks tricks. I haven't found one of your videos that answer my question so i hope you can help.
You need to do the MIXED option with ADB Shell. You will then have a partition of your storage that will be accessible by Tivimate. You will then be able to go into your Tivimate settings and change your download location to your external storage. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

You did a video on partitions for 256gig sand disks. Can send link of lecture so I have correct placement? And print. Do you have to designate identify of each copied app. I'm sure I'm not the only person trying to have 225gig on 2 disks. One apps and other isovie storage for tivimate and desktop computer.
