Thanks for this! Just found out an old 64gb Kingston USB2 card and put a USB adapter and 2 SN30 controllers on my wishlist for payday.
Looking forward to suprising the wife with 2 player retro gaming sessions on the living room TV!!

We do have an adaptor to power the Firestick off the TV USB port rather than the wall plug. Any experience with these and if they work with this setup? (Mission USB Power Cable for Amazon Fire TV)

This was my original way of playing retro games on my TV. I got the original Fire TV Stick back in 2014 and was able to side load Retroarch on it via ADB command line tool. I later upgraded to a newer model of the Fire TV and added a USB hub via an OTG cable so I could connect an external USB drive and wired controllers. I still have that setup with my Fire TV Cube which is still useful for playing older games.

The only thing I like about Amazon fire stick is the fact that I can run play store and android apps. I dislike Amazon products so much I won't buy em period. Why you say, I watched. My grandparents buy 9 fire tables and they got scammed into getting the advertisement edition and couldn't exchange them.

@Retro Game Corps Here's a tip: after sideloading DraStic, when browsing the directory for your ROM folder, use the mouse pointer to change it from "Grid mode" to "List mode" [through the 'list' icon to the right] to avoid having to use the mouse pointer blindly in order select your ROM folder using the fire TV remote instead... You're welcome 😉

QUESTION: I have an 8BitDo SN30 pro connection to my Firestick for using with Retroarch. My issue is that if I stop playing for a moment the controller will go to sleep. When I wake it, it will connect again but it won’t work. So I will have to restart my Firestick. Any help would be great!

I did this with my Fire TV stick years ago, and it works pretty well. I have a TV now and did the same thing. It's nice if you have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse for navigation too. It plays pretty well on lower end games. I usually just sideload apks on mine, but using the downloader app works well, also.

Good video! This sounds like a nifty little option if you have a Fire TV Stick. I feel like almost any 8 or 16 bit title now can practically run on like a toaster. 😅 Seems like a good, inexpensive option to play many lighter weight retro games. It always seems like the Saturn gets the short end of the stick as it is one of the few '90s consoles that still has many emulation issues even in this day and age.

Hope this video doesn't end up being made obsolete for reasons outside of your control. Amazon are looking into creating a version of Fire OS for their devices which is not based on Android, and their advice to app developers is to move over to React Native. So in the medium / long term, they may not be such great devices for running emulators on. TBH, they may end up not being that great as streaming devices either! (at least, if you want to use services other than Amazon's)
Full disclosure: I am commenting without having watched the video, maybe you already discussed this.

Great video for beginners. I had come off the streets after losing my job, house and everything in storage back in 2017 and had to reclaim all that my family and I lost. After I reclaimed my furniture and was focusing on entertainment. I got a fire stick and got one of those OTG cables and a powered USB hub so I could plug in additional devices that needed more power. I replaced it with a PC and no longer own a fire stick but this should still work, in theory. I used a different setup, I got a 256gb SATA SSD + SATA-USB adapter by uGreen. It didn't require an external power source but if it needed it, I got that extra umph from the powered hub.

Thanks for this video, it gave me motivation to try emulation again with my nokia 8000 android tv box. After some formatting of a 16Gb version of the same usb stick you were using things actually started working, all I was ever interested in on this device was genesis and snes games I had as a young teen and the nokia (also a quad core)runs them great using an 8bitdo snes style controller.

Is there any delay when using Bluetooth controllers?I tried using an emulator on an android device before I had noticeable delay with the controller.

It’ll depend on the controller, I tested a half dozen for this video and found that some were unplayably slow (like the Gulikit King Kong 3 Max), but that the SN30 Pro was the best but when in x-mode.

Also bear in mind that Bluetooth on Android has always had significant input delay. It's why I've always just connected my controllers to my phone through USB-C.

I got a slight lag is there a way to fix this? Or is it because of the Bluetooth controller? Thanks

Can you use a ps5 controller?

There are cheap android set top boxes with way more connectivity. But the fire stick is reliable, cheap, and has the best bluetooth remote.

Is there one for Roku Ultra or Roku in general?

Epsxe might be better for ps1. Mugen 64 is better for n64. Standalones seem to do better on the fire stick.

I am only trying to find what games don't lag. mortal kombat trilogy lags like a mofo. but i have a crappy pc i have to keep off until i fix it but i have it on to copy some roms i have had stored for a long time. has problems. probably sata controller issues amd cable issues. so i will be turning the pc off until its fixed. took me an hour to discover my main storage drive but my others drives are gone. weird because before i turned it off last it was showing all my other drives and had one problem drive i needed a windows install to fix but have no drive to add windows. so i was waiting and now bang 3 or 4 drives not working. I am hoping its capacitor in cable or the power supply my uncle let me use is not powering devices. I know i had some shady cables. move them around and i sometimes get stuff to work after several attempts.

If you have a android tv you don't need fire stick.

Hey I ain't rich but having a Fire Cube is better instead of the fastest firestick. I wouldn't have to buy USb and an adapter, thing is it would cost more. But performance would be key. So idk if it's worth it. Nobody has a video up about it since i just checked. Imma keep checking

I had a Fire Stick. Had, past tense. It overheated and shut down after just a few hours of use, and I hadn't even modded it to do emulation, so at that point I just sent it back and decided to never use one again.

I've had many over the years and never had a problem with any, and I've got it heavily modded with media players, downloaded movies, and free streaming platforms like Cinema.

@@TheAbandonedAccount7that makes no sense. We have one on each of the 5 TV's in our house, and we can watch all of them at the same time and there is no interference. Not sure what you did to cause this problem...
