Thank you for this! I just finished doing this. I had some problems. My USB I accidentally formated the wrong one. So it wouldn't show up on chromebook anymore. I remembered I had a seagate external storage. Had to find an app that could partition the seagate for chromebook. I got that, partitioned it and was able to format it to FAT32. Everything good now. Hey Tanya. Love the work. I have been trying to expand memory on my 4k fire stick. What all your vids formatted my 128g usb flash drive to fat32. If I look at storage I see it. So turned on the Debugging/allow download. Got Ip address downloaded adb shell app. Put in address told it to connect and it says it can't connect??? HELP Now I have know idea why this is happening..i did notice in this video when you connected it asked about allowing USB debugging. I'm not getting this option. Just says can't connect. Is there another place to allow the USB debugging to be turned on?? Not sure if that could be the issue. Any assistance would be awesome. Thanks

To my understanding, a recent software update has caused an issue with ADB Debugging, which may also be causing USB storage to stop functioning. It is unclear whether or not this issue will be resolved and when it may occur. I will investigate the matter and provide an update video as soon as more information is available.

I'm sorry, my downloads have been updated, and ADB Shell can now be accessed once the page has loaded by selecting TOOLS (from the choose a category menu), then scrolling down the list to find and click on REMOTE ADB SHELL. Then, please scroll down the page again till you see an aqua/blue DOWNLOAD button and click it to download the Remote ADB Shell app.
I LOVE the video; carefully followed all instructions for using OTG adapter to add USB drive and increase system storage on FireStick 4k; everything went exactly as shown on video, including use of the "df -h" command in the ADB app to confirm that the new memory/drive is now recognized in the Stick OS. However, the added memory still does not appear in the "Storage" section of the "About" menu in Settings. What does this mean?
Nix on the above question, and thanks again for this GREAT video. After posting, I saw your answer to the same question elsewhere in comments, i.e., the portion allocated to system storage (for me, that was 100% of the new drive) doesn't show up on the native "About/Storage" menu. I've now confirmed the new memory is working, by buying, installing and testing a game that previously exceeded the original system memory and wouldn't install. I added SO much system storage (256GB) this should never be an issue again with this FireStick, and assume I will have to use the ADB app to periodically check available memory on the new drive ... thanks for showing us all how to do THAT, too. One problem I had on the "steps" was that my FireStick menu wasn't showing any "developer options" tab ... I had to pause the video and do a separate Google search to learn how to activate that tab. Once I got there, everything else went "like buttah" ...
Great video, I just wished you mentioned that you can't transfer apps to a different firestick at the beginning. I was hoping to transfer apps from my 4K over to my 4K max...
You can "copy" the apk file from one Firestick to another but it will not keep any data and you will need to manually copy the apk file for each app you want on your new Firestick. In all honesty, it's just as easy to install them again from scratch rather than trying a long-winded copy and paste exercise. Hope this helps! Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

I started from scratch in the end, everything went fine, but ES explorer wouldn't recognise the new usb stick (SanDisk 32gb 3.0 drive) although it did show up on the firestick. So I reformatted the drive in Fat32 on my laptop, now the drive will not show up on the Firestick! I tried another usb 2.0 stick and that showed up on the Firestick. I'm baffled that this new 3.0 drive worked once on the Firestick and now it doesn't :( although it works fine on my laptop... Keep up the good work, you have a new subscriber.
Hi Tanya, I followed your suggestion to increase the storage of applications using a flash drive and an OTG cable. I was very please with the results. However, today I had to reset my firestick to factory defaults in order to resolve a problem with update and wifi. Now my question are: Do I have to restart from scratch or can I bypass some steps? Are any of my applications installed on my flash drive that can be re-used or is it hopeless? I am looking forward to your response and thank you very much for all your help.
Hi. Unfortunately, when you factory reset your device, this will terminate the connection with the USB storage and you will have to start over from scratch sorry. You will more than likely have to format the USB storage to be able to use it again with the Firestick and will therefore loose all data and apps stored on it. Sorry to bring you bad news! Hello Tayna, your Firestick tutorials are the best on TH-cam and beat all the others hands down. I've just followed the instructions above as I have a 64gb card attached which I split for a 50/50 partition. My question is, when I check the storage in settings and in Xplore, all I can see is the 5gb internal storage and the USB storage is now only 30gb. Is that showing correctly? I was expecting to see another 30gb as Internal storage or system storage. Thank you

Double-check and try again. 3) If you are certain you are entering your IP address correctly but you are still getting the same results, you could try entering the local host name instead: 127.0.0.1 and try the process again. 4) Make sure and double-check you are spelling sm list-disks correctly. 5) Make sure you are entering the correct drive numbers after you run sm list-disks for your device as they may be different to 8,0. 6) Are you using a : (colon) and not a semi-colon ; 7) Is your storage formatted to FAT32? 8) Do you have enough power to supply the equipment? Ideally, you should be powered by the mains i.e. power socket on the wall 9) If none of the above works, restart your device. Unplug it from the power supply and unplug your power supply from the power source. Wait at least 30 seconds then re-boot everything and try again. 10) Do you have an alternative USB storage device you can use to try this with instead? 11) Do you have an alternative OTG cable you can try? I have done this in the past. Now I can see the USB on my tv screen saying connected. BUT it does not shoe under storage in settings, so it does not work. It does show in ES Explorer etc. I am using a 4K fire stick with the amazon newest upgrade. I have tried many different USB drives. tried a 3 port Hub and also just the OTG cable and USB drive. at one time the settings Manage APPS you could click on the app and it gave me MOVE and it would transfer to the USB. Only happened once. That was the perfect setup for me. need help
@@FireTVSticks yes twice Both times after I factory reset. One time I thought I had it because I went to remove what I installed and I saw move so I thief it and it worked. Then it did not work again
Hi Tanya, Great video and the best I've seen so far on setting up firestick. Can you explain why it will not work with the Amazon ethernet adaptor? I would prefer ethernet for streaming over wi fi. Any resolution other than getting a usb type ethernet adaptor.

I’m going to ask what may be a silly question, but the UGREEN 4 in 1 USB Hub to Ethernet Adapter you recommend, has a USB 3 connection cable, which obviously doesn’t fit into the Fire Stick. I’ve found an adapter for micro USB to USB C, but not to USB 3. I’m assuming that this would still work, even though the connection speed won’t be as fast? Thank you for you tutorials by the way 🙂
Great video. I have a question. How can I access my movie library on my g5 tower. Normally I use my apple TV. But I would like to just use my firestick 4k. All movies are in mp4 format. Any info would be great.
Unfortunately, you cannot run the ADB process with a 2nd Gen Firestick or any Fire TV device running Fire OS 5 as it is running on an older operating system and will not recognise any ADB commands. @@FireTVSticks Hello, I have the 4K firestick. I used a 64 gb usb. Followed your instructions as stated. Everything shows up until I go to ES file manager. No apps show up in my download folder. And copy, cut, are not showing up in order to move apps. I formatted my 64 gb usb as your video stated. It showed up but never could move apps to it. I have a 17 gb usb in with the 64 gb. Only the 17 gb is showing in ES files. Still can't copy and past.
Any type of USB storage device can be used. What storage you use is down to you, but there are few things you need to consider when choosing your USB storage. As Fire TV devices are formatted to FAT32, the maximum size of USB storage that you can use is 2TB, however, Amazon officially recommends using USB drives that are 128GB or smaller. Amazon also recommends that high speed USB 3.0 drives are used, even though Fire TV Devices have a 2.0 USB port because USB 3.0 drives tend to have faster read/write speeds and will perform better, even when connected to USB 2.0 ports. You also need to be aware that with this process, your Fire TV device is likely to run slower when launching apps and moving around the menus as files on your USB storage cannot be read as fast as they can be read directly on the internal device storage. @@bobwright9424 Unfortunately, if your storage is partitioned to Private, you are no longer able to view the contents. It is inaccessible by any file explorer application which is why you need to use the df -h command to see your storage space.

Yes, this can be an issue when disconnecting your firestick. You can fix this issue by one of 2 ways: 1) Power down and unplug everything and then plug everything back together BEFORE powering on. Once, everything is connected, plug the power in LAST. 2) Unplug everything and DO NOT plug in your external memory. Plug your Firestick back in and power it up WITHOUT the external memory. Yes. The number entered after mixed will determine the percentage allocated to general storage. For example, sm partition disk:8,0 mixed 20 will give 80% of the USB drive to internal storage and 20% to general storage.

Great presentation, I installed the external drive on an older flash drive. Is there a way to transfer what I have already installed on to a faster drive?

I was waiting for the red line to appear when my flash drive was connected to the storage. I think my TV might be too old I don't know if that port USB port could charge that phone but I bought the adapters today from Amazon and I had the splitter things for a couple months down but I bought those a four pack of those thumb drives or whatever that they're cheap but they're 64 gigabytes I know I have to format them to fat three or whatever you call it reformat those thumb drives I don't have a computer to do it I reformatted one in my Google tablet though and the other one I had a fire stick I have the Google Chromecast TV one and firestick
Hi Tanya, Great tutorial!! I had no issues and everything works as you described. After using it for weeks it now is asking me to update my apps. When I accept the request to update the apps it says I'm out of storage and cancels the installation for the updates. I know for certain I have plenty of internal storage both on the Firestick and the USB. I did do the 100% internal storage option and didn't allocate any external storage. Have you encountered this dilemma and do you know of a fix for this situation? Thanks, Mark
Unfortunately, this is an issue. There are two ways around this. 1. Uninstall the app and then re-install the updated app. 2. Move the app to your internal storage, update the app and move it back to the external storage. If you’re unsure how to do this, refer to the correct guide. I had earlier followed your instructions to add a memory stick moor added storage wgicun worked fine. I swapped out this fire stick to another tv. I executed your procedural steps and got to the x-pore download attempt which did not show up on the added storage but was shown on the manage applications list. I then tried to go to file link to see if I could download anything else but was stymied with a no internet access message. My internet connection is/was active. What codes are necessary to get a download executed? Your instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Is there another video I can reference to start from ground zero to get things back on track. Maybe reset the fire stick with the power off option. My OTG connections are correct. To be honest, I’m completely stumped about what I should do too get it back on track as it was before. I am using OS6 4K fire stick. TIA.. sorry for being bothersome. I’m not completely comp illiterate but I’m definitely not at your level of expertise in these matters..
Filelinked is no longer working which is why you are getting the no internet message. Before typing in the sm list-disks should I connect my Firestick 4K into my usb storage device first, then type in the sm list-disks so the information above will appear as shown above example disk:8,0 before moving onto the next step?

Hello Tanya, In the xplore app, my external drive appears and I moved a couple of apps from the App Mgr/Installed folder over to it and I can see them there. I then open one at a time in the external drive and it asked if I want to install it which I did but they are installed back into the Apps Mgr/installed folder so when I go into Settings/Applications/Manage Installed Apps and look for the image next to app telling me it was installed to the external drive, there is no icon/image there. I followed your instructions about formatting the drive to FAT32 and also using the partition software due to the size of the drive, then use the Remote ADB Shell to add the drive. I am using Firestick Version 6, my external drive brand is VenderCo and it is partitioned w/1TB for storage, I am using Win. 10 Professional Home Edition and I did not get any error messages during the process.

This could be buffering caused by internet or storage issues. For example, how much storage space do you have left on your Firestick? Does the pausing issue get better if you clear the cache?
Great video. I've had it quit functioning numerous times and been unable to fix it. Thus, I had to redo the installation. Are there any commands to fix it?
Have you seen this issue on a 4k firestick. MicroSD card 64g Formatted to FAT32 partitioned to 50/50 mix. After installing third party app The app works then after a day or two the app disappears. Try to reinstall and the it shows unable to install due to a Package with same name. Tried locating Package unable to locate. Any idea what's happening here. Does it with or without external storage. Help is appreciated.
You should be able to fix this issue by one of 2 ways: 1) Power down and unplug everything and then plug everything back together BEFORE powering on. Once, everything is connected, plug the power in LAST. 2) Unplug everything and DO NOT plug in your external memory. Plug your Firestick back in and power it up WITHOUT the external memory. Your instructions worked perfectly! My issue in doing this at all was that I now have a slow speed connection which prevents me from streaming on the tv. I need to download my videos which takes up a lot of space. I’ve already deleted a lot of my apps to accommodate this before I attempted this method. I found that ES file explorer is not letting me copy and paste to the external storage. I also want to download directly and exclusively to that storage. How is this done? Should I get a different file manager?

Hello & thank you for all your information. I got as far as downloading the adb shell entered my IP address and left the 5555 hit connect and it just keeps spinning. It says, please make sure the target device has network ADB enabled. (I don’t know what that means) You may need to accept a prompt on the Target device if you are connecting to it for the first time from this device. Then connection failed. Again & again. I am using 2nd generation 4k Software 5.2.8.7 My software says it’s up to date. Other cable Sans disk 32 gb. Please help & thank you very much. Debbie
Unfortunately, you cannot run the ADB process with any Fire TV device running Fire OS 5 as it is running on an older operating system and will not recognise the ADB commands. Fire OS 5 only runs on a 2nd Generation Firestick so it is not a 4K Firestick that you have, otherwise it would be Fire OS 6. I remembered I had a seagate external storage. Had to find an app that could partition the seagate for chromebook. I got that, partitioned it and was able to format it to FAT32. Everything good now. I’m getting the same code connection failed.
To my understanding, a recent software update has caused an issue with ADB Debugging, which may also be causing USB storage to stop functioning. It is unclear whether or not this issue will be resolved and when it may occur. I will investigate the matter and provide an update video as soon as more information is available.

I'm sorry, my downloads have been updated, and ADB Shell can now be accessed once the page has loaded by selecting TOOLS (from the choose a category menu), then scrolling down the list to find and click on REMOTE ADB SHELL. Then, please scroll down the page again till you see an aqua/blue DOWNLOAD button and click it to download the Remote ADB Shell app.

I LOVE the video; carefully followed all instructions for using OTG adapter to add USB drive and increase system storage on FireStick 4k; everything went exactly as shown on video, including use of the "df -h" command in the ADB app to confirm that the new memory/drive is now recognized in the Stick OS. However, the added memory still does not appear in the "Storage" section of the "About" menu in Settings. What does this mean?
Nix on the above question, and thanks again for this GREAT video. After posting, I saw your answer to the same question elsewhere in comments, i.e., the portion allocated to system storage (for me, that was 100% of the new drive) doesn't show up on the native "About/Storage" menu. I've now confirmed the new memory is working, by buying, installing and testing a game that previously exceeded the original system memory and wouldn't install. I added SO much system storage (256GB) this should never be an issue again with this FireStick, and assume I will have to use the ADB app to periodically check available memory on the new drive ... thanks for showing us all how to do THAT, too. One problem I had on the "steps" was that my FireStick menu wasn't showing any "developer options" tab ... I had to pause the video and do a separate Google search to learn how to activate that tab. Once I got there, everything else went "like buttah" ...

Great video, I just wished you mentioned that you can't transfer apps to a different firestick at the beginning. I was hoping to transfer apps from my 4K over to my 4K max...
You can "copy" the apk file from one Firestick to another but it will not keep any data and you will need to manually copy the apk file for each app you want on your new Firestick. In all honesty, it's just as easy to install them again from scratch rather than trying a long-winded copy and paste exercise. Hope this helps! Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

I started from scratch in the end, everything went fine, but ES explorer wouldn't recognise the new usb stick (SanDisk 32gb 3.0 drive) although it did show up on the firestick. So I reformatted the drive in Fat32 on my laptop, now the drive will not show up on the Firestick! I tried another usb 2.0 stick and that showed up on the Firestick. I'm baffled that this new 3.0 drive worked once on the Firestick and now it doesn't :( although it works fine on my laptop... Keep up the good work, you have a new subscriber.

I followed your suggestion to increase the storage of applications using a flash drive and an OTG cable. I was very please with the results. However, today I had to reset my firestick to factory defaults in order to resolve a problem with update and wifi. Now my question are: Do I have to restart from scratch or can I bypass some steps? Are any of my applications installed on my flash drive that can be re-used or is it hopeless?

Hi. Unfortunately, when you factory reset your device, this will terminate the connection with the USB storage and you will have to start over from scratch sorry. You will more than likely have to format the USB storage to be able to use it again with the Firestick and will therefore loose all data and apps stored on it. Sorry to bring you bad news! I've just followed the instructions above as I have a 64gb card attached which I split for a 50/50 partition. My question is, when I check the storage in settings and in Xplore, all I can see is the 5gb internal storage and the USB storage is now only 30gb. Is that showing correctly? Is anything appearing at all? An error or nothing? There could be several ways to resolve this.
1) Are you sure you are using a 4K Firestick?

I have done this in the past. Now I can see the USB on my tv screen saying connected. BUT it does not shoe under storage in settings, so it does not work. It does show in ES Explorer etc. I am using a 4K fire stick with the amazon newest upgrade. I have tried many different USB drives. tried a 3 port Hub and also just the OTG cable and USB drive. at one time the settings Manage APPS you could click on the app and it gave me MOVE and it would transfer to the USB. Only happened once. That was the perfect setup for me. need help

I’m going to ask what may be a silly question, but the UGREEN 4 in 1 USB Hub to Ethernet Adapter you recommend, has a USB 3 connection cable, which obviously doesn’t fit into the Fire Stick. I’ve found an adapter for micro USB to USB C, but not to USB 3. I’m assuming that this would still work, even though the connection speed won’t be as fast?

Is a flash drive the only storage that can be used, what a ssd external drive will that work. Ty great video.
Any type of USB storage device can be used. What storage you use is down to you, but there are few things you need to consider when choosing your USB storage.
As Fire TV devices are formatted to FAT32, the maximum size of USB storage that you can use is 2TB, however, Amazon officially recommends using USB drives that are 128GB or smaller.
Amazon also recommends that high speed USB 3.0 drives are used, even though Fire TV Devices have a 2.0 USB port because USB 3.0 drives tend to have faster read/write speeds and will perform better, even when connected to USB 2.0 ports.
You also need to be aware that with this process, your Fire TV device is likely to run slower when launching apps and moving around the menus as files on your USB storage cannot be read as fast as they can be read directly on the internal device storage. Yes. The number entered after mixed will determine the percentage allocated to general storage. For example, sm partition disk:8,0 mixed 20 will give 80% of the USB drive to internal storage and 20% to general storage.

Great presentation, I installed the external drive on an older flash drive. Is there a way to transfer what I have already installed on to a faster drive?

Tanya i have tried endless times to add a 2tb Seagate portable drive and no luck. I used Rufus to make in fat32. I used adb shell did what it said to do about list disk etc. Keeps coming up with this error message "java.lang.IllegalStateException:command". I could use your help. Thank you.
There could be several ways to resolve this.
1) Are you sure you are using a 4K Firestick?
2) Are you certain you are entering your IP address correctly? Double-check and try again.
3) If you are certain you are entering your IP address correctly but you are still getting the same results, you could try entering the local host name instead: 127.0.0.1 and try the process again.
4) Make sure and double-check you are spelling sm list-disks correctly.
5) Make sure you are entering the correct drive numbers after you run sm list-disks for your device as they may be different to 8,0
6) Are you using a : (colon) and not a semi-colon ;
7) Do you have enough power to supply the equipment? Ideally, you should be powered by the mains i.e. power socket on the wall
8) If none of the above works, restart your device. Unplug it from the power supply and unplug your power supply from the power source. Wait at least 30 seconds then re-boot everything and try again.
9) Do you have an alternative USB storage device you can use to try this with instead?
10) Do you have an alternative OTG cable you can try?

I was waiting for the red line to appear when my flash drive was connected to the storage. However, the screen saver kicked in, I hit return and now it's not working at all and I can't find the USB port in X-Plore? I rand df-h and get nothing. I ran sm list-disks and get nothing? I think my TV might be too old I don't know if that port USB port could charge that phone but I bought the adapters today from Amazon and I had the splitter things for a couple months down but I bought those a four pack of those thumb drives or whatever that they're cheap but they're 64 gigabytes I know I have to format them to fat three or whatever you call it reformat those thumb drives I don't have a computer to do it I reformatted one in my Google tablet though and the other one I had a fire stick I have the Google Chromecast TV one and firestick

Great tutorial!! I had no issues and everything works as you described. After using it for weeks it now is asking me to update my apps. When I accept the request to update the apps it says I'm out of storage and cancels the installation for the updates. I know for certain I have plenty of internal storage both on the Firestick and the USB. I did do the 100% internal storage option and didn't allocate any external storage. Have you encountered this dilemma and do you know of a fix for this situation?

Unfortunately, this is an issue. There are two ways around this.
1. Uninstall the app and then re-install the updated app.
2. Move the app to your internal storage, update the app and move it back to the external storage. If you’re unsure how to do this, refer to the correct guide.

I had earlier followed your instructions to add a memory stick moor added storage wgicun worked fine. I swapped out this fire stick to another tv. I executed your procedural steps and got to the x-pore download attempt which did not show up on the added storage but was shown on the manage applications list. I then tried to go to file link to see if I could download anything else but was stymied with a no internet access message. My internet connection is/was active. What codes are necessary to get a download executed?

Is there another video I can reference to start from ground zero to get things back on track. Maybe reset the fire stick with the power off option. My OTG connections are correct. To be honest, I’m completely stumped about what I should do too get it back on track as it was before. I am using OS6 4K fire stick. TIA.. sorry for being bothersome. I’m not completely comp illiterate but I’m definitely not at your level of expertise in these matters..

Hi Tanya, Excellent video, I always love the way you explain things. I have a question though. I see you have a link to UGREEN 4 in 1 USB Hub to Ethernet Adapter in the video. How does this fit a Firestick? It has a male usb on the end and the Firestick has a mini usb.

My Firestick 4K stopped reading the external storage USB. How can I fix this?
You can try to fix this issue by one of 2 ways:
1) Power down and unplug everything and then plug everything back together BEFORE powering on. Once, everything is connected, plug the power in LAST.
2) Unplug everything and DO NOT plug in your external memory. Plug your Firestick back in and power it up WITHOUT the external memory. Then when everything has loaded back up, plug your external memory in.

Here are a few things to check here to help discover why this is happening.
1) Are you sure you are entering your IP address correctly?
2) If you are certain you are entering your IP address correctly but you are still getting the same results, you could try entering the local host name instead: 127.0.0.1 and try the process again.
3) Unplug everything, including your Firestick and power supply. Wait at least 30 seconds then plug everything back in and start again.
4) Try going into the Settings and turning ADB Debugging off and then on again.
5) What version of Fire OS are you running as this is important to know and will define if you can use the ADB process or not. Sorry, as far as I know, a software update "broke" ADB Debugging. I'm not sure if/when it will be fixed.

I'm trying to give a 128Gb USB 3.0 pendrive as internal storage to the system. So build is Firestick with OS 6 + OTG Adapter + UGREEN USB 3.0 Hub Ethernet Adapter + 5V 2A Power Supply Adapter + Keyboard with dongle. Any advice? Many thanks.

Hello Tanya, In the xplore app, my external drive appears and I moved a couple of apps from the App Mgr/Installed folder over to it and I can see them there. I then open one at a time in the external drive and it asked if I want to install it which I did but they are installed back into the Apps Mgr/installed folder so when I go into Settings/Applications/Manage Installed Apps and look for the image next to app telling me it was installed to the external drive, there is no icon/image there. I followed your instructions about formatting the drive to FAT32 and also using the partition software due to the size of the drive, then use the Remote ADB Shell to add the drive. I am using Firestick Version 6, my external drive brand is VenderCo and it is partitioned w/1TB for storage, I am using Win. 10 Professional Home Edition and I did not get any error messages during the process.

I am experiencing when streaming a movie either with kodi or cinema HD, it constantly goes to pause for maybe a minute or longer. So, in adding storage space 50% mixed will it fix the pausing problem? Thanks again for you input. Excellent tutorial videos.
This could be buffering caused by internet or storage issues. For example, how much storage space do you have left on your Firestick? Does the pausing issue get better if you clear the cache?

The app works then after a day or two the app disappears. Try to reinstall and the it shows unable to install due to a Package with same name. Tried locating Package unable to locate. Any idea what's happening here. Does it with or without external storage. Help is appreciated.

Your instructions worked perfectly! My issue in doing this at all was that I now have a slow speed connection which prevents me from streaming on the tv. I need to download my videos which takes up a lot of space. I’ve already deleted a lot of my apps to accommodate this before I attempted this method. I found that ES file explorer is not letting me copy and paste to the external storage. I also want to download directly and exclusively to that storage. How is this done? Should I get a different file manager?

@@FireTVSticks I thought that I would expand the room for videos by making all of the thumb drive storage as internal. If I have to go back and split it will I wipe what’s on the external storage now? There’s only a free apps I did to test.
I did go back and reconfigure but now I can’t reinstall the apps I lost on the sd card. It says there’s a conflict with the same name
Hello & thank you for all your information. I got as far as downloading the adb shell entered my IP address and left the 5555 hit connect and it just keeps spinning.
It says, please make sure the target device has network ADB enabled. (I don’t know what that means) You may need to accept a prompt on the Target device if you are connecting to it for the first time from this device.
Then connection failed. Again & again.
I am using 2nd generation 4k
Software 5.2.8.7 My software says it’s up to date.
Other cable
Sans disk 32 gb.

Unfortunately, you cannot run the ADB process with any Fire TV device running Fire OS 5 as it is running on an older operating system and will not recognise the ADB commands. Fire OS 5 only runs on a 2nd Generation Firestick so it is not a 4K Firestick that you have, otherwise it would be Fire OS 6.
You can watch this video to help you to add external storage to your Fire OS 5 device so that you can at least use that storage if you do things like download content from apps for example: th-cam.com/video/LQ7Na-hzeX4/w-d-xo.html

Tried everything and couldn't get my Firestick to see the external drive. Put it down to external drive (1Gb) being old and/or needing more power. Returned my OTG. Will purchase the latest firestick which simplifies addition of external drives.
