    Looking at Apple remove the esim, I'm convinced they'd get rid of the charging port altogether instead of giving us a USB type C. The dynamic island is cool through.

      I guess it could be them trying to "slap" Europe because of the usb c situation.

      Idk. I think esim is further along than portless. I’ve been going esim since the Xs Max.
      If they don’t go usbc then it’ll just be lightning for all their accessories. I’d go usbc first and switch all my accessories to it then go portless.

    My main issue with the island is reachability. UIs have been moving towards having things at the bottom of the screen for easy thumb access. The island is the top most thing of the phone. Interacting with it is going to be a bit of a hassle for me and my hands. I’m more comfortable using my second hand to get the control center, for example. This may not be an issue for others, but definitely need to try it myself to decide

    I really like dynamic island in that it takes a limitation and turns it into a feature. But I'm not sure how other companies would copy it since the iPhone is the only phone (afaik) that has a giant cutout in the middle of the screen. How (and why) would a phone with a small punch hole introduce such feature? I'm ok with the punch hole on my phone, but I sure don't want it any bigger than it is now.

    • @ismaeltorres3219
      @ismaeltorres3219 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You don't necessarily need to make a bigger cutout to do some dynamic island type thing on an Android phone. I guess just make a toggleable option to have an island around the existing cutout.

      @@mellywonka_ I don't know... On Android you have that notification bar up top that shows you something is going on or something requires your attention. It doesn't need to cut into the screen. And you can swipe down easily for more details/info. iOS has neither of those things, and I like it that Apple found a way to bridge that gap while using something that many consider a flaw. I see it as a win for iOS, but if anyone on Android copies it (and we know some will) it will be copying for the sake of copying.

    I used an esim for a year and it was great, more secure etc. I moved to another phone that didn't have an esim and it was totally straightforward. The network provider just sent me a sim card.
    I prefer the flexibility and security of an esim (and less waiting for a physical sim, you can do it before going abroad and have more than one number, use an additional number temporarily eg in poor reception areas and its obviously less waste for the environment in materials and distribution). I'd like esim on all my devices-phones, smartwatches, tablets - and the ability to switch as and when I wanted.

      @@stephenk5577 yes, I’m aware, I was just making a joke. For people that consistently travel this will be an issue, but I’m not convinced this is a large enough market to be a priority for apple. It’s a ver niche thing, probably moreso than the people who actually bought and liked the iPhone mini. Also, since it’s apple, I’m pretty sure now that they’re going this route, other phone manufacturers will follow suit and the industry will follow as well. We saw this happen with the headphonejack. They didn’t NEED to remove it and yet soon after removing it pretty much the whole industry followed and now we don’t really think about it. Same will most likely happen with e-sim compatibility amongst most phone carriers (which is already the case in the US).

    Since we have the dynamic island for the new 14’s can we still have an active window while we do other tasks? I have a 12 pro max and I can watch HBO max and watch it in one open window while I do other task in the main window. Any one know if it will make a difference on the new 14’s ? ( waiting for mine to come in lol)

    The UI build around the cutout is good design. But just think about this. No other company made this big of a pill shape notch before. Current ones are circular smaller cutouts only. And there is not enough room to build a UI around it. For last 3 years we have no big notch in smartphones other than Apple. So my point is, at this day and age, what apple done with the big pill shape cutout and design interaction around it, is not so agile and easily forgettable. My most concern will be that cutout coming down the screen while watching video. I'm pretty sure that people will be watching videos more than looking at the design build around that cutout. It's clear distraction. Previous gen notch are much better than this and not taking much of a screen area.

    I really don't know why everyone is against the name of the "Dynamic Island" I think its a beautiful and intelligent name for it. I don't know if people are thinking of an island in the ocean, because I'm thinking about an island in a kitchen

    I think "Far Out" was referring to the exploration centric features like satellite, Apple Watch ultra, and other stuff
