      I read a press statement about their vision :
      So basically they want to create a coherent ecosystem that provides an alternative to apple's; so in order to do so they are making a phone. Nice till here.
      But then they said this will work with other brand manufacturers; which android basically does already and is also the reason why it's is so incoherent.
      Still if they want cross compatibility as well as coherence; then they don't need to make a phone, just make good compatible software.
      That's a flaw in their core plan.

    They want to create a Eco System without their own OS, chip design, desktop OS etc. . If you want to create a real alternative eco system you need more than just a phone and a android skin. I'm curious how they will evolve. And I hope they will drop the apple vs. them talk and just do their thing. That just feels desperate if you are doing it to much.

      Samsung did create an ecosystem without their ownOs or chip design, and it's much better than what Google did. So why not? The problem though, is not to build a new ecosystem, but building products which don't tie into just their ecosystem, and interface well with the OS in general. Design and UX were what helped make Apple what it is today. Oneplus was one of the few Android phone makers that did emphasize on both. So I hope Nothing turns out well, even though the evidence so far indicates the opposite.

      @@ravitejaknts I think the point he's making is, what value is Nothing bringing to the table? How is it any different from what OnePlus was or Essential tried to be? This does not apply to Apple. Apple brings a LOT of innovation to the table. It got its start by being one of the first personal computers to come to market, then they made the iPod, released the first smartphone, the first tablet, the first large scale smart watch, the first large scale wireless earphone. If you don't like apple, look at Google, they are also built upon software innovation. What is Nothing doing? They made some half decent earphones that, other than looking cool, bring nothing groundbreaking to the table. They have nothing innovative going on. Even their plan for the future aren't talking about any innovation, just to replicate Apple's business but with android, which like every other android manufacturer out there wants to do. And they want to create a launcher, of which there are already too many. And make a smartphone. How groundbreaking! All they have is good marketing. That event was very underwhelming. Sounded like a lot of big words and no substance with gimmicky sneak peaks.
    Also, the constant comparisons to others just make this seem like the company wants to be DIFFERENT, rather than actually INNOVATIVE. What is their vision, what do they want to achieve? Instead, they kept a constant look at competition and how others disappoint. I don’t care about that. I care about real value. They never touched on that. They touched on trying to be different with a lot of big words… and felt a lot of references to Apple, both with their commercial, and him naming Apple again and again. Very underwhelming.

    Carl never said Apple was bad, he just said there wasn't any alternative like apple ecosystem in android, which is true. Why the hate ? or ignorance ?
    He clearly said lack of alternative ecosystem slows down innovation, and thats why they want to the alternative in Android.
    Every single Apple user stick to it cause of the ecosystem and the lack of ease when switching to Android.
    A good Android ecosystem with all the products seamlessly connecting would be really good. (Hopefully them launching phones, earphones, tablets etc.)

    • @SF-li9kh
      @SF-li9kh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Xiaomi has a wonderful ecosystem of a wide variety of products. Yet no one sticks to it.
      The reason is that investing in and then moving out the ecosystem is cheap. There is no lock in. Android is inherently fragmented. And last but most important. Android users are not sheep. You can try to herd them with good deals like OnePlus, but as soon as the milking phase begins, they are intelligent enough to seek out the competition

    • @salmanps2
      @salmanps2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SF-li9kh Exactly. One of the main reason people stick to iPhone IS the ecosystem. So If Nothing can bring atleast a good competition to that, with seamlessly interplay between devices (and they most probably would need to deliver the best at the best price to stay alive) then it would good for the whole android demographic. There really is a gap to fill in Android for seamless ecosystem (Not disregarding Samsung's, but still)
      It would be very hard with Qualcomm's chips and relying on other manufacturers/companies, but there still isn't one worthy enough in Android. It should've been Google to do this, but they aren't.

    There seems to be some misunderstanding of their "ecosystem" - they're integrating OTHER COMPANIES' products into their products. It's not really an apple alternative, so much as just: tighter integration across products from different companies.
    They said they're working with Google, Samsung, Sony, and others. So their headphones/speakers/tablets/etc will, presumably, integrate with Nothing devices in a way that is similar to how airpods integrate with iphones, for example.
    Not sure why, but it seems like not many people listened or payed attention to their very bare-bones presentation. It could've been an email, but would you have understood it?

      Apple's software-hardware control grants them advantages in creating an ecosystem that others simply cannot achieve. Otherwise, saying they're just going to do what everyone else is doing is a non-starter. I think trying a mobile startup is tough, but you don't even have to grow it that big to become an acquisition target. I think it has to do with how closely and seamlessly things need to be integrated for it to be called an ecosystem. Apple's is clearly an ecosystem since they have full control and the experience is the exact same across all their products. It 'feels' like one ecosystem. The challenge for non-apple ecosystems is that they are often made by various different providers and so the integration is hit or miss, the experience is inconsistent, and overall doesn't feel as seamless. I would argue only Apple, and to a lesser extent Google and Microsoft have true ecosystems. All the others are a hodgepodge of devices trying to work together but aren't seamless.

I don't think Nothing has even the slightest clue who they're going up against or the immense challenges they're going to face in their endeavor. Are they going to create and manufacture their own processors? Are they going to leech off of the Android OS to create their own OS?
    And maybe more importantly, are they going to be able to convince developers to sign on? Heck, even a giant like Microsoft couldn't find success in the mobile phone market. At best, Nothing can be a niche player serving a very small market and that's being very hopeful.
