I urge you to prioritize the console versions. Consoles are inextricably linked with the FGC, and many, many players simply will not own a PC. It also directly benefits the competitive scene, as a Switch or PS5 is easier to bring in to grassroots events than a PC setup, in my experience at least. I definitely appreciate everything you and your team have done and are doing, but I do think an emphasis on consoles and cross play will ensure the greatest future success of the game.

Times have changed guy, both need to be focused on equally. They know very well that PC is where the majority of their player base will come from. But of course, ignoring the console community would be a big mistake.
I'm not surprised. Workshop was such a huge success in Rivals 1 and the Rivals playerbase would not as big as it is right now without it. Dan knows that a lot of people just bought Rivals 1 for the workshop and it will be the same for Rivals 2.
Getting it out on console should be a priority, having to wait over a year to have a "definitive edition" is stupid. People want the game regardless of how much content there is, it feels like a betrayal seeing this game getting so much attention when so many people can't even play it. I'm sorry I rambled on for so long but I'm very passionate about this game.
I don't know if you at Aether Studios take suggestions. Or even if you read this comments section for that matter. But _just_ in case, I thought I'd share some thoughts on how the upcoming console launch for this game could be more successful and garner more interest from a wider audience in the future. Keeping in mind that these suggestions are put together with the thought in mind that the upcoming Steam launch is more for the hardcore Rivals/eSports demographic, while the console launch is aiming to also bring in a wider, more casual audience too. With that said, here are my thoughts! -Waiting to launch until RoA2 even just has _one_ more character and stage than RoA: DE. Casual plat-fighter players look more at quantity than they do QoL changes, or cool things that aren't reflected in the numbers. -Having Workshop and Story Mode Chapter 1 ready day and date with console launch, as well as crossplay/cross-progression too. I have these all as one point because you guys have already stated that these are in fact the plans. I'm just stating how important I think these things are too. -Upping the player count for couch multiplayer. This will definitely bring in more friend groups and bigger families into the demographic, and will probably add to the game's appeal (and in turn sales) like it did for TMNT: Shredder's Revenge. So few games go beyond four players that the novelty will be very likely to pay off for piquing new player's interest! Think about it, for anyone who chooses PlayStation, Xbox, or PC over Nintendo systems, they haven't had the chance to have that Smash Bros. higher player count experience yet! -Having the first guest character launch with the console version. I'd make sure that whoever this character is is from a cross-platform game that's popular on all consoles Rivals 2 is launching on. Also, make sure that this character is new to Rivals, as new characters seem to have a more explosive reaction than returning ones do. While not necessary, I think that having the identity of the second guest teased/revealed with a video right before launch would be the icing on the cake, and would excite newbie players about the game's future, giving you guys another chance to reiterate that all new characters, even guest characters will be free! This is keeping in mind that this new audience will probably have either forgotten or completely missed the memo about the free DLC characters/stages in the next couple of years before the console version's hype cycle starts up. -If this is in the cards, releasing more wacky stage layouts with the console version would appeal to a wider audience and lapsed Smash fans. I mean "wacky" more as in Hyrule Temple, Sector Z (minus the firing ships), Princess Peach's Castle, and more static layouts like that rather than the more extreme layouts of "Orbital Gate Assault", "PAC-LAND", "The Great Cave Offensive" and the like. Essentially, if you guys have any interest in eventually making stage layouts that aren't tournament/eSports viable, this would be the best time to do so, in my opinion. Anyhow, these are just my thoughts! Like you guys at Aether Studios need a random guy on the TH-cam comments to tell you what to do, but I just wish so much for your guy's success so much that I thought I'd share these (hopefully) helpful ideas with you! I think if most, if not all of these came to fruition in the next two-plus years, that this would give Rivals 2 the revitalization it'll need to make a splash big enough for the game to grab the attention of the general gaming crowd/outlets once again, and get the player base's excitement reinvigorated! This proposed two-year plan is kind of like a Rivals 2... *2.0* if you will! You guys are awesome, and keep up the great work!
one of the things i reeeeeally hope comes back is abyss pvp, messing around with the abyss movesets was a BLAST and these abyss skins look amazing so hopefully they'll come together sometime after launch
I think Tutorials need to be out ASAP for the game to thrive on launch, tbh. I played Rivals one VERY casually, mostly because I loved the workshop community and how fluid the game feels, but rivals 2 feels completely different, and I'd love some more thorough tutorials on new game mechanics.
Really looking forward to the tutorial mode. I've only ever played GGST and I am by no means great at it (usually on Floor 7-8) but the only reason I was able to even reach the skill floor necessary to have fun with the game was because of the tutorial mode. Breaking down each tool at your disposal and putting you in situations to use it and grind out reps to improve your consistency was insanely helpful. It was still hard and I lost many of my early games, but I knew why I was losing and was able to adjust quickly rather than quit in frustration.
Really happy to see you guys make it. I hope the sexy pop idol mouse and sauna ape make it back as part of the free characters. Those guys were my favorites.
Aether Studios… Dan Fornace, thank you for creating an in depth, technical, competitive fighting game, that has a fantastic art design, to allow even the most casual of fans enjoy watching themselves fly through the air to crush the opponent below as best boy, Zetterburn. But on a real note, the game feels fluid and good, the impacts are very satisfying, and the controls feel responsive as hell. Well done.
This is the best new platform fighter I've played in years! It's just as good as PM/P+ or Melee, I LOVE IT! I also love the fact that it's the first fighting game (not only platform fighter, but across all fighting games) that allow the game to run at higher framerate with the animations being untied from the physic/game logic. 240fps is BUTTERY SMOOTH
For the future, if you guys haven't already, I recommend checking out Sakurai's youtube channel. It has specific advice even tailored to platform fighters. One thing that I believe could be improved about the game is the impact of getting hit. In rivals one, it really felt like a weak hit even when hitting at over 120. Hit stop and stun, as well as more prominent effects to exaggerate the hit would do wonders. Thank you for reading.
I have always, and will always, love Rivals of Aether. Clairen is one of my favorite fighting game characters of all time, and her RoA2 version is SO fun. Thank you so much to the whole team, I hope that this is the springboard that launches you clean into the overwhelming success that the whole team has been working hard to attain. I wasn't sure exactly where would be the best place to share my biggest hopes and dreams for additions in this game's future. I hope that this comments section is an alright place to do it! Here they are for those of you who are interested! -6 Player play online and especially on one system with a 3v3 addition as well. -2-4 Player co-operative play in the teased "better single player" modes. -Boss battles in the upcoming Story mode, with a separate Boss Rush mode for challenging them again! -A small plot line for every character in the Arcade mode focusing on an individual Rival's personal growth and their journey to a specific goal. While the Story mode would be more grandiose, involving every character at once and will be more ambitious in general, the Arcade mode would hypothetically be a smaller, more intimate approach to storytelling. It'd make the Arcade mode really contrast well with the Story mode, I think! -The ability to have multiple local players play online matches together. -A tag team mode that can be played with more than just 2 players. -A main versus mode beyond Stock. A "first to _X_ amount of points wins" mode like in Multiversus would be my choice! -No clones or even semi-clones ever. -Curating guest characters to only feature characters that seem like they could actually exist in the world of RoA. In other words, only implementing potential guests that mesh well with the original cast and don't break the immersion of the game's intricate world! -Incorporation of guest characters in the elemental categories like the main cast are. -New elements, Light and Dark. -The following guest characters: Dust & Fidget (Wind-Type from _Dust: An Elysian Tail_ ), Sash Lilac (Water-Type from _Freedom Planet_ ), Asgore Dreemur (Fire-Type from _Undertale_ ), Mina (Earth-Type from _Mina the Hollower_ ), Ori & Sein (Light-Type returning from the original RoA), and Hollow Knight (Dark-Type from the series of the same name). Okay, so those are my hopes! I hope so much that you and your team consider what I have to say. Regardless though, I'm so hyped for this game! Best of luck on the launch, Aether Studios!
I'm really glad to see that custom colors are coming back. With the current shop I was worried that feature as well as modding was going to be taken away to maximize profits. @@thefutureisbread No, this is wrong. If you want the safe crossover picks, go back to your SSB. Rivals of Aether II is still a sequel to an indie game at the end of the day, so guest characters should reflect this enriched history. In fact, that is the beauty of guest characters in Rivals of Aether: the picks have been on the deep end (so far), from territory SSB has yet to make playable. Shovel Knight being an assist trophy in SSBU is more painful than if he had not made an appearance at all. Rivals of Aether truly does what Nintendon’t and you should be more grateful for that. Boy, does this look like it's going to be a lot of work. Let's make sure we give these guys just as much support (at least) for such big endeavors for the future. For me, Story is always a big factor for games. And I'm INCREDIBLY anxious to see what chapters this game will have. And as for characters, I can't wait to see how they'll open up more to the world of Aether, as well. I do have to wait for the Switch version to release. But I'll still support the game as is, especially since it'll help others with their enjoyment.
I Can Not WAIT to finally play this! 🤩 as a guy who really enjoys the 1st rivals of aether, You guys plan for this sequel has me even more excited, New Outfits, Story Mode, New Characters, Thank you Aether Studios💙
As someone who played the rivals of aether 2 demo today seeing that tutorials are in the making is super hopeful!! I started playing and it felt so foreign to me just moving and all of the mechanics as well. But nevertheless I still had a fun time playing even though I have no idea what I'm doing
Wait this new abyss clone design is fire. Gives that sort of uncanny monster vibes way better. Edit: Dan said workshop FIVE. Guess Guadua may happen eventually, especially with being in CoA.
nope. the fifth one is La Reina, the winner of the rivals 2 workshop contest. Guadua has cosmetics (an emoticon and/or icon, cant remember rn) in the rivals 2 shop currently though
I think you should add the option to use any skin and colour in training mode (like in brawlhalla) that way buying skins feels less like a gamble and u can test them out first (after all u can't refund them)
Quick notes on what was touched on in the video: - Ranked mode with leaderboards & UI improvements - Tutorials & training mode improvements - Monthly events & cosmetic releases - Ranno & Zetterburn skins, icons, emotes - Story chapter 1 development - Expected 4 characters per year (old and new), no plans for guest characters, but not impossible - Esports/competitive support info coming soon - Workshop support down the line (1-2 years) - Console releases down the line (1-2 years)
I hope launch goes well for you guys, this franchise seems cool and I'd love to see it have a long life, especially since people have been itching for a good Smash competitor. Unfortunately my computer is pretty old, so I either have to wait for console release or upgrade my PC before I can play, but I hope that barrier isn't big enough for others that it impacts a successful launch.

I'm really glad to see that custom colors are coming back. With the current shop I was worried that feature as well as modding was going to be taken away to maximize profits. Thanks for caring about the community and player individuality. That shit's really rare with how money focused everything is these days.
THOSE ABYSS CLONE DESIGNS HAVE ME SHOOK 😱😱😱
this game is the SAUCE! I just downloaded the demo yesterday, instantly fell in love. THANK YOU DAN AND THE TEAM!
the fact that you are still planning to do workshop is insane. I love rivals so much this game is awesome
Amazing communication, I’ll buy the game just to support. Passionate team of devs, their willingness to interact with the community is indicative of that.
Crossing my fingers for this to work out all the way into the future
Please bring this to console as soon as possible i was so hyped to play it as soon as possible 😢 you guys are doing great tho keep it going 👍
Thank you for these straight to the point presentations!
very excited for the different story mode chapters! im looking forward to it!
i hope to see some co-op features too cus i love to play but im bad at fighting lol
"Custom Colors"
IF IT MEANS WHAT I THINK IT MEANS, YOU GOT ME DAY ONE ON THIS STUFF
I can't wait for them to turn the 4 randos in the background of Rivals 1 Julesvale into playable characters.
I'm really looking forward to Arcade and Story! I'd really love to see Abyss mode!
Please make sure the runes work properly this time...
The Abyss is back?! That thing just won’t stay down, will it?
Rivals is getting subspace emissary, we live in that timeline fellas
The tutorial in the first game was the best part of it!
Thank you for not compromising your vision and cooking with your project! I'm excited to see the future of rivals
Also if you diiiiidddd add a guest character risk of rain rep would be sweet
Loader time
@@Chuckychargeblade It's GOTTA be Acrid though, right? (Aether please 🥺)
Acrid as ranno skin and loader and Kragg skin lol
@@MrDoctorJudgeI feel like Acrid is the ideal RoR rep since:
a) he’s the only returning character
b) his moveset could be easily ported to a platform fighter
c) he’s an animal
@@MrDoctorJudgealso fire
So awesome! This game will be great! Thanks rivals team :)
Best fighting game ever made ! Thanks a lot for the love
I look forward to seeing more of what you all have to offer! I don't hold my breath over it, but here's hoping workshop may return someday in the distant future.
Literally more coolstuff on that roadmap than every roadmap overwatch 2 ever had combined
Are you retarded?
I'm absolutely obsessed with this game, can't wait to get back to my PC to play it. You guys did a phenomenal job, keep up the great work❤
Keep up the great work guys! This game is amazing
I hope this game absolutely shines, it's beautiful
Honest and informative, thanks! Cant wait to
Excited for the present and future of this game it's absolutely PEAK!!!
We need Mina the Hollower as a guest character
nah this time no guests from random indie games please
@@thefutureisbread No, this is wrong. If you want the safe crossover picks, go back to your SSB. Rivals of Aether II is still a sequel to an indie game at the end of the day, so guest characters should reflect this enriched history. In fact, that is the beauty of guest characters in Rivals of Aether: the picks have been on the deep end (so far), from territory SSB has yet to make playable. Shovel Knight being an assist trophy in SSBU is more painful than if he had not made an appearance at all. Rivals of Aether truly does what Nintendon’t and you should be more grateful for that.

yea lowkey goated comment
Boy, does this look like it's going to be a lot of work. Let's make sure we give these guys just as much support (at least) for such big endeavors for the future.
For me, Story is always a big factor for games. And I'm INCREDIBLY anxious to see what chapters this game will have. And as for characters, I can't wait to see how they'll open up more to the world of Aether, as well.
I do have to wait for the Switch version to release. But I'll still support the game as is, especially since it'll help others with their enjoyment.
Love this game, loved the first one, backed the project! Can't wait to see what the team cooks up!
Now this is what a fighter game should be!
Best game studio to ever do it!! 💪
I Can Not WAIT to finally play this! 🤩 as a guy who really enjoys the 1st rivals of aether, You guys plan for this sequel has me even more excited, New Outfits, Story Mode, New Characters, Thank you Aether Studios💙
We are so excited!
I hope u guys blow up like LoL, and not only have the opportunity to make great games but art, media and so on. A legacy if u will.
2:30 MOLLO MOLLO MOLLO MOLLO, IVE NEVER BEEN SO HAPPY TO BE WRONG
Put party balloons in the shop. Balloon spawn platform. Balloon themed skin. Balloon emote. Birthday theme for the menus. Put them EVERYWHERE. SKREEEE
As someone who played the rivals of aether 2 demo today seeing that tutorials are in the making is super hopeful!! I started playing and it felt so foreign to me just moving and all of the mechanics as well. But nevertheless I still had a fun time playing even though I have no idea what I'm doing
peep roa 1 tutorials. a lot of overlapping concepts
MOLO IN RIVALS 2? FUCK YEAHHHH
The demo was a blast! So hyped for the release of the best snake in this world
Looks amazing, Looking forward to hearing more about this!
Especially if Elliana joins
YUHH I WAS THE ONE SUGGESTED CREW BATTLE MODE
Wait this new abyss clone design is fire. Gives that sort of uncanny monster vibes way better.
Edit: Dan said workshop FIVE. Guess Guadua may happen eventually, especially with being in CoA.
nope. the fifth one is La Reina, the winner of the rivals 2 workshop contest. Guadua has cosmetics (an emoticon and/or icon, cant remember rn) in the rivals 2 shop currently though
Guadua definitely sounds like they could be possible, but yeah the fifth workshop character he's referring to is definitely La Reina
The fifth one is La Reina, they referred to her as being part of the workshop group in the previous Dev Q&A
When is the abyss clone shown in the video? I can’t find it
Nvm it’s in the thing listing the three deep dive videos
absolutely incredible
Rivals 2 in EVO 🙏
Super amazing game, looking forward to whats coming
0:38 WE'RE GETTING SQUAD STRIKE???????
Squad strike but you don’t have to switch your tag every time??
@@ogkboy5029 no i think they're only doing the tag team format where different characters are stocks in one battle
I think you should add the option to use any skin and colour in training mode (like in brawlhalla) that way buying skins feels less like a gamble and u can test them out first (after all u can't refund them)
So sounds like to me he confirmed Absa is coming back gotta love that
Workshop integration will be a big challenge, can't wait to be there when its added
The halloween skins look hype as hell, that's a definite pickup for me. I'm so hyped for this games future.
Quick notes on what was touched on in the video:
- Ranked mode with leaderboards & UI improvements
- Tutorials & training mode improvements
- Monthly events & cosmetic releases
- Ranno & Zetterburn skins, icons, emotes
- Story chapter 1 development
- Expected 4 characters per year (old and new), no plans for guest characters, but not impossible
- Esports/competitive support info coming soon
- Workshop support down the line (1-2 years)
- Console releases down the line (1-2 years)
I hope launch goes well for you guys, this franchise seems cool and I'd love to see it have a long life, especially since people have been itching for a good Smash competitor. Unfortunately my computer is pretty old, so I either have to wait for console release or upgrade my PC before I can play, but I hope that barrier isn't big enough for others that it impacts a successful launch.
The demo has been a ton of fun. Sending much love :)
Fantastic job team!
Hope you guys bring back Shovel Knight. I loved playing as him in the game.
Praying for the guest characters return because I digged their playstyles
LESS THAN A WEEK LEFT LETS GOOO
Plz, if there's gonna be a crossover, let it be cult of the lamb 🙏
That would be dope
"A year or two" before Workshop support? That's actually way earlier than I expected
YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
LETS GOOO Rivals 2 is fcking lit I've been loving it so far
Spectacular
Can't wait for this to release right before my bday 😤
Sad to hear console is 1-2 years but I'll be extremely excited to keep up with the community until then
Damn, I really wanted it on console. I hope there’ll be some kind of progress transfer
Get everyone in your discords playing this and we could see content dropping even faster than announced!
Dan & Team!!! I want this on PS5 asap, I played Rivals 2 (first Rivals game) recently and fell instantly in love with Orcane. Please let me buy your game on PS5 so I can play it 🥰🐳🫧🩵🤍
I’ll have to be patient after falling so hard for this game!
Actually, I might prefer getting it earlier than having more modes; Ranked is good enough for me to launch with! 👏🏻🙌🏻🌊
