10/10 is deserved. They legit delivered on all their kickstarter promises and then some. If you want a solid fighter that’s easy to pickup with a TON of depth. These devs deserve your $30. Also they allow you to earn cosmetics in game at a reasonable rate!
I've been playing Rivals since day 1 of early access for the first game, almost a decade. It's crazy to see how far it's come, and I'm so proud of Dan, Trevor, and the rest of the Aether Studios team for what they've managed to accomplish.
Rushing Workshop is an actual negative in my eyes. It should be the final update, after all the content they plan to add makes it in. I get why they want to rush it, they want the "no WS no buy" crowd to keep playing because they can make Minecraft Steve and Ronald and Mario, etc. But that won't really do much for the casuals, and those people will NOT buy skins and stuff at all. "Internet funny man" types will make their videos, people will see that, and maybe 1 or 2 will try the game because of it, but the majority will just laugh, go "Smash clone lol" and never give it a chance. They should do full story, not just the planned Chapter 1, even if all the characters aren't added yet. Stuff like that matters to casuals who are already intimidated by the "Rivals is hard, this is heavily a competitive game" aspect. I really want the game to succeed and add a lot of stuff, but yeah, if their priorities aren't in the right place, it's gonna be the opposite. I absolutely love the game, the universe, the characters, all that good stuff. Just really hoping that long term, it can be a success and have its own identity instead of "yet another crossover platform fighter", which is why NASB and the likes fail so hard. High ambitions have their price in the end.
Counterpoints: They plan on supporting this game for ten plus years so that would mean workshop would come out year 10, And I feel like that's a bit too much of a wait. Plus this statement is filled with a ton of assumptions about how people act and respond to workshop content and other forms of casual content, And they have stated that the story mode is not going to be all the "same", Like chapter 1 will be a smash brawl style compain, Chapter 2 will be a Metrovenia, and chapter 3 would be a rogue like mode. Plus all those story chapters would absolutely benefit with custom characters being able to play them all. Plus there could be a potential of workshop storymode campaigns too if workshop gets a ton of support.
They have not said that they're rushing workshop. It shows on their roadmap for rivals 2 that they plan to add it after a ton of other features, and its in the same category as the console launch which means workshop will likely not be out in rivals 2 for 1-2 years
@@maxkozeal5195 Counterpoint: Casuals won't even hear about WS content and it'll be left behind, and content creation poison a game's identity with their stuff. Casuals see that, they go "oh it's just worse Smash but Mugen", they pass, the game stays in the dust. That's it. You have to think broader. Don't think people will make game modes for you. Especially with 3D being MUCH harder to do than RoA1's WS. It takes actual effort. I'll lay down my suggested plan: Year 1: 4 characters, Story Ch1, tutorials, bug fixes Year 2: 4 characters, Story Ch2, a game mode like Target Test Year 3: 4 characters, Story Ch3, another game mode like volleyball or Board the Platform or whatever Year 4: 4 characters, Story finale, a final game mode like Abyss Mode (would fit with the finale) You have all the vets, the game is bigger. Then you do Year 5: 2 guests, 2 awesome characters (or heck, do 4 guests, go all out) + Workshop. You release your "Definitive Edition" with a nice 30 character roster, lots of side modes, and a big story mode. It can all be different, but you'll have people hyped through the years. Rivals 1 also took about 5 years to add WS, so yeah. It's the best way to wrap it up. That's what I'd do anyway. It's way better than rushing all of it year 1 or 2 (they literally said they want WS year 1 or 2, that's rushing it) instead of focusing on what's important: Giving the game an identity of its own first and foremost. The franchise has MASSIVE potential, and somehow they want to squander it on Smash MUGEN. WS onlys will not touch the future characters, they will not buy a SINGLE skin. They're not true fans as is because they go "No WS no buy". Don't cater to them and don't take the easy way out that is "the community will make modes for us". Nobody's gonna do it. Leave that stuff for the finale.
Brawlhalla is a great game that is probably one of the most unique plat fighters, it's uniqueness is why a lot of smash players don't like it, but I feel like its mechanics are cool. It has a great casual and competitive scene and has been updated consistently for years, and it definitely deserves more respect.
@@jadenmitchell8367 you kind of just hit the nail on the head for me. It's not trying to be like smash which is a big part of why it succeeds. It's also not forcing itself to get smash players to like it yet people will hate on it for no reason.

I like rivals because it’s not trying to be smash in the sense of having a bunch of characters from different franchises. And maybe that’s why I like the game so much is that it is really easy to make new characters because you just basically make a sonic oc and boom
This game looks amazing, the gameplay looks promising, yet the most important thing seems to be how dedicated the dev team is to pleasing the fans. I love Smash bros and Nintendo and always will, but it's always been in spite of their attitude towards the fanbase. If Rivals 2 continues at the pace it has been, and the team behind it continues to cater towards to the player base, I'm almost sure it will be extremely successful.
love the game since rivals 1, hope they do well, they have an amazing team that really understando how games in general work even down to regional pricing, like im from brazil and the game would cost an 8th of a minimum salary it had the price just translated from dollar to real so they looked at that and decided to pratically make the game 50% in brazil so its viable to the average gamer to buy
Big tip for platform fighter newcomers is to practice movement with guides in training by yourself. It'll make everything easier I can't believe my favorite new variety fps content creator is doing a vid for rivals of aether 2!
The other reasons you gave for what should be fixed is exactly why the game is coming out to consoles later. The game is currently in an unfinished state, with a lot of polishing optimization and features needed to be added to become a full product. They only want to sell on consoles once they reach that finished product. After all, Rivals 1 obly came to the switch after the Definitive edition update came out.

Most people will give a game it's first chance by playing with their friends, but right now, in its current state, the game won't keep those players for long
