Audio? How do you record audio in your aircraft?
@@4xoverland What does it matter? Since he doesn't record it on the GoPros, it won't have any changes.unless there is some kind of upgrade in the SEPARATE audio recording.
I have the mic adapter on the Ace Pro that I feed with a NflightCam headset audio cable
the larger sensor and higher dynamic range is probably the biggest upgrade, second might be the quick release mounts.
I strapped a potato to my wing and got a better picture than my GoPros... and the potato never lost power / glitched / shut down.

A few questions:
- Does it stop for 15 seconds after 29 mins before resuming the clip like the Insta360X3 does?
- What's the battery life?
- Are you concerned that flip out screen might get torn off by airflow when mounting exterior?
- is there a way to get intercom audio straight in like you can with GoPro?

AcePro still segments clip every 30 minutes, but this time no video will be lost, not even a second.
The battery can record 4K30 FPS HDR continuously for about 100 minutes.
Also, does it have a global shutter?

@@eissug Yes, not a single frame will be missing. I personally tested my own AcePro with a fully charged battery. 4K30FPS setting, no stops, no overheating, continuous recording from beginning to end.
After the battery ran out, I opened the memory card and found that there were 4 files in it, and the videos duration of 3 files was 29:59, the duration of the last video is 6:08, so the total duration of the video is 29:59*3+6:08=96 minutes and 5 seconds.
I dragged all 4 files into Premiere Pro, connected them, and checked all 3 connections, frame by frame, 100% confirm that the files were coherent and not a single frame was lost.
That looks awesome. Most of us aren't cinematographers, and ease of function and usability is everything. Love my 360 X3

Yes I have gopro s but always wait till a gen or two as there's hardly anything in the new releases that are nothing more than slight improvements, hopefully this give them a kick in the pants

Trent, I love your content and I hope you don't take this the wrong way - but I was really hoping you would do more of an in-depth review of the camera vs. just running through the features. I can completely tell you actually liked the camera and you probably didn't mean it this way, but it kind of just came off as a sponsored salesy type video. Given your extensive experience doing drone cinematography I would really love to see something that could serve as a review/buyers guide taking your professional opinion into account and really exploring the pros, cons, and relative strengths vs. other market options and weighing it against the price of the hardware for certain applications. I think given your experience you could totally expand into the drone and drone cinematography hardware review niche on TH-cam but it would just require some more in-depth analysis from you and I was hoping to see that here. Keep killing it, love your stuff!
I bought the X3 after Trent featured it. Pretty durable, has lens covers, you can add ok quality out of the camera. Addicted to reframing the shot but looking for better output I got the ONE RS 1 inch 360. Output is incredible but it DOES/can overheat (in summer time even in the windstream). Does not have lens covers which means you can damage it pretty easy. I started out with the GO2 for small projects which was limited to 15 mins recording but pretty reliable. The last 2 videos I dropped on my channel were done on the One RS 1 inch.
Have you tried recorded cockpit audio yet, is than possible?

Any chance you could check the LRV files and let us know the resolution and frame rate? Most importantly, does the LRV frame rate match the frame rate of the main video file? On previous insta360 cameras the LRV files have a lower frame rate (14.98fps) which makes them useless for using as proxy files for editing. Gopro & DJI cameras use a matching frame rate for their LRV files, so they can be used as proxies for editing. To check the frame rate & resolution you just need to rename the LRV file from .lrv to .mp4 and then it will work like a normal video file. Thanks in advance!

This looks really great. I would like to see it interface with the G3X for control. I've used the Garmin cameras because interface with, and I can control them from the G3X panel. I have to admit that I have several hours of footage that have never seen the light of day because of the heavy editing load.

The flip screen seems functional for shot finding, but are the hinges not a concern as a point of failure for an action camera? Will they not break the first time you stack it? How does it work with the protective case? Is there a protective case?

The most expensive place to repair when you accidentally drop a phone is the touch screen. This is an action cam with a large touch screen and no protective case, flapping about on a hinge. And it's not something you can take to your local electronics shop to fix when it breaks either.
I know quite a few folks who have chucked their low unreliable battery life GoPros for them. Would have preferred an un-sponsored review of it though.
The Dji Action 4 does 1/1.3, very disingenuous review

Looks sweet. I just want to know if I can run it with no battery via the Mic Adapter. For use on hat mount for Kayak fishing. Need to run via a power bank with no battery to reduce weight a bit.

I know my first comment was really glib... But is there Timecode in / sync? I do like that I can jam timecode on all of the GoPro's on my plane with the Tentacle Sync audio recorder that I use.
I emailed Insta that very question: No, there is no timecode. I was told, "...this is something the engineers are working on."
how does it work with over heating compared to the go pros?
Yes. I'm getting one next for sure. After using 3 different GoPros.

All my aerial footage is shot on Insta360 OneR 1" cameras, and it looks really good. I never even considered GoPros. The problem with all action cameras, however, is too low a data rate...and that includes Insta360's cameras.

Can y ou record audio into the ace from your headset when you're flying your plane? The seems to be the one thing a gopro can do out of the box that the Osmo action can't - at least not via the USB-C port anyway, wht about the ace?
Couple questions: Did you find it tended to overheat during prolonged shooting sessions? If so, how did it compare to GoPro in terms of endurance. Does it have any accessories that allow capturing intercom/radio audio, or would you need an external solution for capturing that?
Yup. This. Would like to know if there are heating issues. And inability to change lens cover is iffy. If the lens gets scratched $$$

Super slick camera, how does it handle prolonged filming? My Hero 12 sometimes craps out after 10-15 mins filming a flight vlog..
I’ve used GoPros and don’t like them. But I really like the DJI Action 3. It’s SO much more user friendly and better battery life. I really liked the Insta360 X3 but it’s just too much editing work. Editing is the most time consuming part of creating. The biggest question, does it require an adapter for an external audio source?!
The ceiling lights behind him when he is talking have an odd blinking to them. I think it is a 60 herts issue of some sort. It also show in one of the Insta360 ace pro videos of the hanger.
I am waiting for a camera which captures all 11 dimensions of space-time.

I’m currently using an old Garmin VIRB with customized lenses for my flight videos. But even with the aftermarket lenses it still looks like crap and requires a lot of editing. What I like about it is it will receive telemetry data from my Garmin Flightstream 210 via Bluetooth. Does the insta360 have the ability to sync with Garmin flightstream?
Can you shoot in flat mode when shooting in 4k 30fps or 24fps, instead of HDR? Can you disengage HDR mode?
That's great stuff. Worth looking at for sure. But let's talk heat. Does it overheat in cockpit? My GoPro does all the time and it's the most frustrating thing ever!

Did you notice how the ceiling lights seem to change brightness as you move around the screen? I suspect the camera is adjusting the brightness to reflect changes in the light as say your hand, while you gesticulate, passes through the field of view. Is there no way to let it adjust to the ambient light and then lock that setting in to eliminate this effect?
Of course. The camera is obviously set to auto exposure. Change it to manual, adjust shutter speed and iso. Done.

Thats all nice and sweet but what about this flip screen,how durable will be after years,what about lense that you cant change on action camera,what about overheating,what about software gliches,why is it missing 10-bit colors,why the view is not so wide?That is info what we want to know

I really like the camera pirep. One thing I think would be useful to know is how much computing power is required to manipulate the high resolution, high frame rate footage(?). Will I need a new $3000 computer to go with the $500 camera?
Does it still have the rolling shutter / progressive scan issues that cause your GoPro footage

With all the downfalls GoPros have, we have heard the term “GoPro Killer” for over a decade and they still are the dominant player in the market. It gets kinda old.

Yes, I need to go through my files and upload them. I printed it out of the Colorfab Varioshore TPU, but any flexible filament should work

Been looking at getting a camera for my boat so I can show my brother in Washington giant catfish catches, but every fishing youtuber I watch constantly complains about overheating and random shutdowns with the Go Pros. Since its 90-100 all summer here I have been reluctant to pull the trigger, I wonder if these are any better in the heat.

Some incredibly weird over the top sharpening contrast/color shifts in the sample clips, especially in the skin tones which is really unfortunate.

So what you're saying is, I bought my Osmo Action 3 too soon. 🙄 After watching GoPro choke everyone out over many years, I'd given up on finding a good competitor - and as soon as I buy the Action 3, DJI and Insta360 start stepping up their game... How cool is it to run into a flying channel that's also a fishing channel... Both of my hobbies rolled into one. I would love to be able to fly into Sierra lakes and streams with my fishing gear.

Yes that's how it works, so it's wasting more battery if it's in that mode unfortunately.

Hey man, nice video! I also do aerial videos and I prefer GoPro mounts. I don't use GoPro cameras anymore, I switched to Insta360 but I still use GoPro mounts. My question is, how strong is the quick-release mount? To be clear, I skydive and I do skydive videos. Will it hold and not break? And do you have any suggestions for a case? I also film in 9:16 and 16:9. Can you recommend a case? Sorry for the long comment and my bad English. :)

Are you sure the glass is made by Leica ? I would have thought it's made under licence by Leica, similar to the Lumix series of cameras.

I have a GoPro that I attach to the tail tiedown of my Arrow and we go flying and doing boring things compared to what Trent does but it’s exciting for an Arrow. My GoPro issue is where I like to fly at 8000’ to 9000‘ over Ohio. It gets cold, and now that we have this very ugly season called fall winter spring attacking us my GoPro won’t even boot up after I get it attached to the tail of my airplane.
How does the battery do on your new camera in the cold?
Would you fly through rain with that attached to your airplane?
I will admit the images that you put up are absolutely spectacular. The fishing in the Alpine lake was breathtaking.
Have you tried external batteries? I 'wired' USB cable from the cockpit out to the wing cameras and use a camera brick that stays warm. The cameras stay on - on all but the coldest days... I probably shouldn't be flying on those days anyway.
you know, funny thing is other than some of the new software things and a larger sensor, this ace pro is not much different to the HERO12

Battery life?
I like everything about this camera. Except the footage.
Looks great; but the lack of 10-bit color, which is present on GoPro and DJI now, is a deal breaker.
The drawbacks of 8-bit color still show, even within the footage of this new Ace camera.
Pausing on the low-light samples, and wow, is that some Huuuuuuge Barrel Distortion on the ACEPro!! That's a shock, Insta360's action cameras are usually better then that.
Does the camera download to the users own folders in the phone, or hidden in apps folders?
the 5nm chip should allow it to run much cooler 🙂
First of, love the videos that you make. If all the footage in this video was shot by this Insta360 camera then against your best effort this is actually a video why people should stay away...the quality (lighting, colors, sharpness, blurred edges) of the image gets so bad many times during the video that I would not want to ruin my videos with such quality. So if a pro like you with proper editing knowledge makes this video then average dudes like me stand no chance...
