With the long selfie stick and wind and all, how are vibrations? The shots you use here seem perfect, but even keeping things close and tight to the attachment, I often have trouble with that with my various camera setup, as well as no matter how tightened down, occasionally wind pushing cameras a bit off where I set. Especially the rear mount that's getting the propwash too. BUT, even your front 3/4 view very extended out wing mount seems always perfect. Is that just because you're only using when turns out well, or is it generally always good with the mounts, even extended? A video on all your mount setup would also be super interesting. Just the entire process from start to finish. :-) -Daven
I use both GoPro & Insta360 for my aviation videos & although the Insta360 can produce some breath-taking footage, it takes as long to edit the footage from that one camera than it does for the other 4 cameras running at the same time. All cameras have their advantages & limitations… if I was just limited to one camera… yeah, it would probably still be the Insta360 🤷🏻♂️
I don't fly and don't do videos but I always wondered how you get the pictures you do thanks for explaining it love when you fly through the canyons. People like my self that live in flat illinois makes my day

I just started using this camera with a pole mount on my RV-7. Lots of fun, but very frustrating that I cannot power the camera off & on from the cockpit using the Insta 360 remote device, ( that cost $100). It works fine while on the ground, but always loses its Bluetooth connection shortly after takeoff!! Therefore I have to start recording before takeoff and just leave it on. If my flight is longer than about 80 minutes, the battery is dead and I cannot record the landing.🥲Cannot seem to get an explanation/ fix for this ….. anybody have any ideas?🤔

Wow! I'm sure you and everybody else saw this: given the chase-mode perspective and the distance, it makes your Kitfox look like it has a nosewheel. But wow! The way technology is advancing it seems to be doubling in features while halving the time to the release of the next set of cool features.

Hi Trent, I've recently moved from a X1 to the X3 and just need to get my head round the extra quality. It's definitely going to add a new level to my flying content.
I wish insta360 would swap my 3s for 2s. I have tried every trick in the book to solve for contrast and exposure issues on the 3. Out of the box the 2s have always been perfect. Not to mention the 3s weigh what seams like a pound more especially when on the end of a telescoped rod.
Love your content, Trent! How do you even out vibration / oscillations. I find the longer the selfie stick, the more dynamic oscillations I get. In the resulting footage, the landscape is stabilized, but the aircraft oscillates.....Thanks!
The camera is great but for the „unreal” shots (on a long stick) it is required to be mounted to the planes structural components permanently to secure it properly (the stick, not the camera). I also find that the quality could have been better, so for more important / darker shots I use INSTA360 ONE RS 1-inch.
I've been shooting my Cessna 120 videos all the way back to the early 1980's starting with a clunky Canon VC-10 VHS mounted to a short wooden 2x4 strapped down in my cockpit across my seat back up to my glare shield and lately with my GoPro 9. BUT this Insta360 changes everything. Very instructive video, Thanks for making it Trent!!
Cool. I occasionally see general aviation videos recorded in the 60's, 70's, or 80's on TH-cam and I find them near to watch, seeing what has changed (the fashion, the technology, the landscape/cities) and what hasn't (the airplanes). I guess it gives me a feeling of connection to that era since the flying is the same so its relatable.

In your Video the main Wing Strut crossection hole together with the white Wing crossection looks like a flying white kayak on its side with the kayak sitting hole looking into camera direction…will you make a kayaking trip with the kitfox bringing your kayaks with you ?

I was wondering about power? I have the 1800 battery but was wondering about longer flights I might want to do time lapse shots. Love the camera for flights under 1-1.5 hours. But longer flights and battery will die.
You don’t have to worry about which way to point the lens, that’s the beauty of it! I would avoid pointing the seam (the area between the two lenses) directly at you, although they seem to have their stitching software so good it doesn’t really matter anymore. For mounts I recommend checking out NflightCam, they make some good mounting solutions 👍
That's pretty cool I can't afford that still but that'd be pretty cool on my weedhopper ultralight.. if you're ever in Kansas let me know we got a little 400-foot runway we take off from
Wow, they have obviously improved the software over the last 4 years. The early versions it was a true headache to edit 360 footage… might have to dig out the terabytes of 360 footage I gave up on editing
aren't you worried about the pole snapping while you're flying? how do you deal with vibrations that you're definitely going to get with it being out in the air stream ? what about the unfortunate issue of "oops the camera just fell off" ?

I am in the final stages of my build and am using the FlightFlix power box mounted in my wing for power so no batteries needed. With the FlightFlix strut mount the GoPro is perfect, how would you mount the Insta360 on a single strut wing?

I've found the Insta360 is far better than the GoPro's these days. I started with the Insta360 ONE RS but now primarily use the X3.

Did you edit any of the footage? It looks a bit hazy and unedited? I know the GoPro sometimes looks the same before editing.

i just picked one up for aviation. Love the 3.5mm mic jack attachment to record the audio. Always hated dealing with syncing everything in post.
