8:16 there is meant to be the sound of a house alarm, but i apparently muted it because im a silly goose so make the best alarm sound aloud when you get to that bit

Good video, one thing to note about the 600 tile Radius alert is that it does make a sound that has a 600 tile radius. However only zombies within 100 tiles of your character are actually able to react and move towards sounds you make/cause. the only thing in the game that can attract zombies from further than 100 tiles are Meta Events.
That menu image of cradling the woman, when the lightning flash reveals it's actually a zombie, is such a subtle but effective subversion of expectations.
I hope you give Project Zomboid a try sometime. ^^

The two in the main menu actually have names! They're Kate and Baldspot, and they're essentially tutorial NPC's from a VERY early version of the game. There was a small storyline where you get to play as Baldspot taking care of Kate as she broke her leg fleeing from raiders. Nowadays, you can actually go to their house and find them as a little easter egg. :)
Actually it makes sense that most if not all of the cars you find will be out of gas. After all, pretty much every car that was able to drive away... already did. People made a mad scramble to get outta there, as evidenced by the fewer number of cars and the fact that those remaining have a reason why they're still there.
If I was stuck on a island with a pc and could only play one game for the rest of my life it would be project zomboid

I recommend you check out Cataclysm:DDA it is similar to Zomboid but way more in depth at the cost of graphics, being turn-based, and having a steep learning curve. If you can get into it despite all that it is probably the deepest and most varied survival game out there. I also think it would make a good fit for a video with all the weird creatures and misadventures you can get into
7:20 Inability to sit on furniture is an well documented issue. And the name to it is - occlusion.
Basically the splites that most of the environment is made of are just flat pictures, cleverly arrenged to gine an empression of an isomentrin world. Put they are just flat pictures. And as such they can only interact with player 3D models in one of 2 ways. Either be fully in front, or be fully behind. And while it looks serviceable for the most part, sitting on furniture is not that easy. It is only easy for sitting on furniture that is facing the camera.For those cases furniture being fully behind the character looks decent and you can ignore the armchair armrests being concealed - this is the option mod unlocks for you.
But for furniture facing away from the camera... The backrest needs to be the most visible as it is the closes to the camera part. The seat needs to be behind player torso and upper legs, but it needs to be above tower legs. And now you can't fit it into "all or nothing" occlusion sprites can offer.
Thankfully with build 42 one of the announced and already completed (or at least not holding b42 back) features is an engine facelift, that will give sprites a depthmap. It will allow them to better interact with 3d models and thus the correct furniture interaction will be possible. Fith developers explicitly stating that this engine upgrade removes the obstacle that prevented them from implementing sitting on furniture.
how do you respawn at the end if its permadeath??
You don’t respawn, you create a new character and spawn in the same world
11:20 Nah. Louisville is not the place of the original outbreak. Actually if you pay attention to news broadcasts, Loisville checkpoint is lorewise secure till like day 5 of the game. Then an incident occures with military at the checkpoint firing their guns (allegedly warning shots) and by doing this bring a ton of zombies from inside the zone. This zombie assault results in checkpoint being at least partially overrun. But worse than this - exposes a lot of civilians, who were floking to the edge of the zone to find out about their relatives inside the zone, to the airborne strain. And since the airborne strain was not known and the working theory was the widespread outbreak originating from wild canine bites, the wave of civilians fleeing the checkpoint to loisville went unempeded, resulting in the city population being exposed to the airborne strain and subsequently having a massive outberak.
So lore-wise Louisville is a normal city till like day 20. But game mechanics don't reflect this...

I replayed this game with a few friends recently and it's come a looooong way.

@@bearnuggs it's not like you missed out. The entire map was maybe a fifth of the current map's size (probably way less, too). You only had a pistol and a shotgun for guns and maybe a dozen or less melee weapons.
Honestly, the only thing I'd say I miss from the earlier builds I played back in like 2014 was the NPCs you'd occasionally find, but they only lasted for a couple of builds IIRC because of how buggy they were.
And hey, at least you didn't have to wait almost a decade to play it multiplayer.
@@1990alone the story about the guy saving his wife was new to me, sounds super cool. i also love watching games grow. i played the talos principle when it was barely a demo and the growth was amazing

@@bearnuggs yeah, it was just a tutorial. You actually got a few quests with a tracker. But it was just about 30 min tops, then it became an open world.
Actually, the guy with the girl in the main menu screen (the one who's actually a zombie when lightning strikes) are the guy and his wife from the game's first version.
There is still an easter egg of it in the game itself even nowadays .You can find the house where that couple was living in Muldraugh, to the North-East of the town. Sometimes, you can even come across their zombified selves and kill them, too. They have a unique item you cannot find anywhere else, a framed picture, if I recall correctly.
i once spawned into a house full of zombies while i was actively getting eaten. i just heard screams as i was loading in. 100/10 highly recommend game and video
modded spawn location? Default spawns will always clear all zombie in the tile.
@@Telopead it wasn’t, but it wasn’t a fresh world spawn, i had just died. actually, if i remember correctly, i respawned in the house i had died in. i vaguely remember my own corpse being there

Just broke 1k hours on Zomboid last week. It's a great game in vanilla, but the modders have made it the best game ever.
If you like this game, you might want to check out cataclysm dark days ahead. It’s a traditional roguelike that was a big inspiration for this game.
While talking about traditional survival roguelikes, I recommend you check out unreal world

You realize that you can play in the same world again in singleplayer after your charcter died? You can even find your previous character and the base with all the gear.
Yeahh it’s great, I should have made it clearly it wasn’t just in multiplayer, but one of the many incredible features of the game

Fun fact, lorewise i believe louisville becomes infected about a week after the start of the game (6 days to be precise) and while ingame that isnt true, thats due to gameplay limitations

Welcome to the self torturing game of joy. The most fun you will get loosing your self in the sadness of loosing a fictional character. To hear most "gamers" are confident enough to skip most tutorials. This is only of the games that you need it more than you think. Easily teaching gamers they are in fact "not a gamer". You can adjust how many zombies are there at the start. You can start on a low pop and if you start in one of the easier cities, you can live longer. Sorry, but this is a game that doesn't hold your hand. It's a great survival game, you may just be bad at surviving.
