Dayz is truly an amazing game, In my opinion a 1 to 1 of how people would be and act in a true apocalypse the paranoia can run deep even with players with 200+ days of game time. It's not a zombie survival game. It's a hard-core survival with zombies, and to say you survive isn't the best way to play. You just do a little better each time
It comes across as a super boring, buggy, janky shitpile.

Oh and question, what exactly counts as a survival game on here? Like would a BR like pubg be one and something like fallout shelter too, or what? I always wonder this in general.

Since you want to continue playing DayZ you should try a modded Namalsk (map) server. It's really tough, temperature matters and the map is set up in such a way that you spawn near other newly spawned players very often with a sort of funnel shaped island leading from the "starting" city down to the "late game" areas
Oh right also, DayZ on its own in vanilla is often very much undercooked. Most players play the modded version which one can primarily play via external launchers.
What’s strange is official on PC is unplayable, but it’s really good on new gen console. On PC, you’re right, modded is much better

Listen, I can recognise these videos are great. I can see that a lot of time has been put into them, and that you're a talented guy who will no doubt go far.
What I can't abide is your insistence on snubbing the obvious elephant in the room that the Tesco meal deal of choice is the one that cost a bit extra, but gets you one of those Chinese bao buns with the pork inside that you microwave. Those things are excellent eaten as God intended, coupled with a bag of Wotsits and a Dr pepper.

For some people the barrier to entry is to high.
Finding food, making a fire, equipping better clothes are all essential before you can really get into the meat of the game.
I like exploring more than base building, and as a mostly solo player, I have more bad combat experiences than good.
But when it goes your way, and you get a headshot on a car driver and steal all their loot is a great feeling.
Or just meeting a new random player and going off to explore.
Plenty of fun to be had if you can get used to the game
I finally got Dayz a year and a half ago on the xbox one. It took me weeks before i took out another player. Learning to survive was such a massive undertaking. But i believe its one of the top 10 games on the market.
So if you're actually looking for the worsts there are a handful of abandoned projects. I am not even sure if it's possible to find some of these any more.
The warZ / Infestation: Survivor Stories - possibly the grand daddy of abandon-ware survival crafting games
Reign of Kings - Could have been something but long since defunct.
Life is Feudal: Your Own - While not delisted yet, certainly on track to be delisted with how abandoned it is.
Nether - This one honestly hurts as it was fascinating with it's eldritch abomination style enemies and weird ability to become them for short periods of time.
Age of Survival - Yeah, this one might take the cake.

@@dumbwaystokai Cheers to that. You'll understand what I mean if you can get Nether working. It had something going for it that just... died when a notorious "end of life" publisher seized it's IP.
the WarZ/Infestation Survivor stories was more shovelware with a cash store jb-welded onto it through Hammerpoint Interactive (a notorious shovelware developer who changes company names every few years.)
Reign of Kings was made by the same folks who made another abandoned project named Starforge - both had interesting components to them but both ran aground in EA.

Definitely need to do The Forest and Sons of The Forest it's interesting seeing their choices with the sequel which I'll let you be the judge if those changes made things better or worse than the first but I will say despite being a survival game and a sequel to said survival game they couldn't be more different.

@@dumbwaystokai I liked the original DayZ mod with the epoch mod. It let you construct bases kind of like ark/similar. Felt more personable especially if you had a long-running server
DayZ mod was just that; a mod with 100s of mods on top of it.
DayZ mod vanilla was horribly shit, it was just a framework for other mods to attach to
DayZ Standalone is just that-a framework for mods. It's awful on its own, but modded it's pretty great(though not as good as ArmA2 Dayz tbf
God, DayZ. My most fav game, ive put so many hours in the game and none I regret. I have many good memories of the game, its a slow burn kinda game. Or maybe its Stockholm syndrome?

Right at about 11000 hours for me since 2019. There are no other games even close to interesting me, and none have in years. Before the suggestions start rolling in, I will say before this, for me it was Red Dead. And I've tried to periodically see if anything has surpassed DayZ. Nothing has yet. And we've got a lot of runway ahead for this game to improve even more.

Survival games are all absolute ass, and DayZ is among the worst. Ark is also an absolute turd.
If you’re going to make videos like this you owe it to your potential viewers to actually play the game. You didn’t run into anyone and made a video lol. You also can’t shoot yourself and nights are not 12 hours long. It’s a shame cuz your video came up cuz of my other DayZ content, this video was half assed. Also idk why ppl in your comments be hating.
Despite its age, bugs and jankiness, DayZ is still my favourite game of all time. No other game gets the heart pumping the same way.

I enjoyed the video but a few things…
- Nights in DayZ arent 12 hours; they’re 1 hour, including the bulk of sunrise and sunset, equating to roughly 30-45 minutes of darkness (no idea where you got that from).
- You can block Infected attacks by blocking and backing away.
- Official servers on PC are fairly unplayable for a few reasons (hackers, etc). Which is weird because official on new gen console is brilliant. If you’re playing the PC version, definitely better to play modded.
- I think you got shot by another player. There’s no way your shotgun can randomly fire and do that. On top of that, there’s no reason you’d suddenly die after regaining consciousness, unless someone finished you.
- The red symbol on the left of the screen meant you had bad connection, which is why there was such lag between opening a door and it opening, etc.
- Playing for so many hours and not seeing another player is very rare - at least it would be for me. You maybe played low pop servers?
Give it another go some time!
