I drive an M6 Gran Coupe and my wife a 218i Gran Tourer, I obviously love mine but the 218i is a fantastic car, it's all you need in a family MPV, it's not fast but you don't buy one for that, it's comfortable, practical, efficient, suits my wife's childminding business and comes very well spec'd as standard. The options she added were the blue paint and the panoramic sunroof and it still came out a country mile cheaper than the Vauxhall Zafira.
You can have the M-pack with 18's and normal suspension, or better yet , pay the tiny difference to upgrade to the adaptive dampers option. And I can't agree that the car is loud in high speed, the lack of wind noise is definitely something which amazed me.
Had an extra child and was forced to give up my beloved Jaguar XFR V8 500bhp to get 7 seats. Got one of these and have not looked back. Tried many 7 seaters before buying (New discovery sport, New Volvo DC90, S-max, Q7 etc.) but with this got an MPV that is not a tank and drives great, 4 kids love it and it gets us all over the place. Interior classy, Xdrive makes the car stick to the road in all driving conditions, iDrive system is the best on the market and the car has enough pace to surprise most boy racers. Not the best looking BMW I agree but with a top spec M-sport model I still have had many people stop me to admire the car and ask about it.
Somebody has said on here save £10000 and buy an S-Max,I love the S-Max but you can't buy one for £10000 less than the BMW if you want an Automatic 4WD with the spec of the BM,the S-Max has got 4WD but only in manual guise I believe and the Automatic is the Powershift 6Speed against the BMs 8Speed.I had a Kuga Auto with 4WD and the gearbox changed when it felt like it not good when overtaking so the price difference is no ware £10000.
That's the MSport version. Hence the ridiculous suspension and tyres (yes, totally unusual for the segment, but someone may like it). I think if you try the SE version, sport or Luxury Version it would be a little less uncomfortable. It may be possible to delete the MSport suspension on the MSport model when ordering new. It sometimes is.
Thank you for the video and the infos, much appreciated! Any feedback on the Active Tourer 220i Petrol version? I'm a bit afraid of turbo charged engines and issues they might bring in....
Just checked you cannot buy an S-Max Auto with 4WD,the S-Max Vignale 2-0 TD 180 manual is £35345-00 which is about £180-00 cheaper than the BMW Xdrive 2-0td Sport Auto 4x4 which I have just ordered so someone is talking out of their arse by saying there is a £10000-00 difference in price there is no comparison in the spec of the two cars price for price.
Did you say spacious? Yes, indeed it is spacious to load boxes but not people!! The legroom in the middle seats is just about right for children! I do not comment at all the back ones. Not a good choice for those that are looking for space and it is totally misleading to call this car spacious!
We test all sorts of vehicles, including both SUVs and MPVs, but this is a test of just the 2 Series Grand Tourer; and, we chose to test that car because it is BMW’s first attempt at building a seven-seat MPV. We haven’t done a comparison test, but if you want to see our opinions on any new SUV, have a look through the expert reviews here on TH-cam and on our website www.autotrader.co.uk/content
I think i understand wrong. I thought that this is your car. So i asked why you choose an mpv instead of a suv as a family car. Or just ask this way, as a family car what do you prefer suv or mpv?
I am thinking of getting a BMW 2 series 220i petrol automatic on Motability but I can't find a write-up/review on it. Can anyone help ( they all seem to be 220d x-drive )
I have a FWD 220i Active Tourer and the 2 litre petrol engine mated to the sport automatic transmission is all the required power you'd need in one of these compact vans, torquey & revvy. Good power for the motorway and if you're feeling racy but also it's fine pootling around town. Any more power and the front wheels would have trouble coping with it. If you have the car fully loaded with passengers/luggage, in comfort mode you may find the power lacking but switch it to 'Sport Mode' and it opens-up the taps and lets you tackle motorways and hills for effectively. A diesel 218/220 will still have greater torque however it's also a lot more expensive initial price.
There is not that many rich people in the world, you cannot just sell cars that are extra sporty and extra expensive and expect them to make sales instantly Have you seen Porsche's economical situation before the Cayenne? It was horrible
The climate control system is inadequate. Works well in the front but rubbish in the mid section and nonexistent in the rear. A journey in Italy this summer was very uncomfortable for my grandson.
I've tested both, the S-Max and the 2 Gran Tourer, for my self to replace my X1 (to small for 2 Kids). And yes, the BMW is better, it drives like a car and the S-Max more like a Boat...
In Holland people switch from Vauxhaul Zifara to 2 series because they are affordable, but not this M sports edition, the standard 218i which looks like crapp. I can tell by the way they drive. Slooooooooooooow.
That's the first time I've noticed the exterior door metal on the inside of a BMW, usually the hallmark of a cheap car. What a shame, even my 2012 Vauxhall Astra doesn't have that nonsense. Lap this up, you clueless badge snobs
You're supposed to slow down at speed bumps:)

Toby Carter In a nutshell you told all that is to know...
Another great 'real life' video from Andy. Not keen on the car but like Andy's presenting style, very relaxed and assured.
You can have the M-pack with 18's and normal suspension, or better yet , pay the tiny difference to upgrade to the adaptive dampers option. And I can't agree that the car is loud in high speed, the lack of wind noise is definitely something which amazed me.
You do realize that you are supposed to slow down for speed bumps, not do the 'Dukes of hazard' jump.....

Loud road noise and harsh suspension - could that be mostly down to 45 profile run-flat tyres on 18 inch rims?
Dad just bought a 220d. I love it too, where the space inside comes from, i dont know.
Good to hear as I am looking to get one too getting rid of my Turan which has been great but is getting old.
Brilliant car, I've got 220d xdrive Perfect for my needs. 👏
You drive the M Option and wonder about ride comfort? I drive the 220d Active Tourer M Sport and would never switch to the standard suspension.
The BMW iDrive system is the best on the market.
Thank you for the video and the infos, much appreciated! Any feedback on the Active Tourer 220i Petrol version? I'm a bit afraid of turbo charged engines and issues they might bring in....
Is it economecal for fuel? How much feul you need for 100km?
Hopefully they will make it MUCH more quiet ahead. .....a noisy drive is sooooo tiring.

they've put a "motorsport" (m) package on a diesel mpv... nothing is sacred anymore 😂 🤣
Very helpful video, thanks
Picking mine up next week!
Did you get the car, and is it gasoline or diesel, do you recommend?
how is your new car going do you recommend for family and doing long journeys
And, well, of course you woke her up if you drive over speed bumps like a maniac lol
4:37
lmao exactly what i thought
hahahahah trueeee
and when he drives in front of his hous he hits that curve whit back wheel 7:35
😅😅
One serious flaw a seven seater being tested by a family of 3!
LOVERLY JUBBERLY I LOVE THIS CAR SO MUCH I WANT 3
Would be nice to know actual MPG in these videos especially as the listed ones are usually bordering on a fairy tale
I wonder how the new skoda kodiaq seven seater will do in a test like this. They are well known for making great family cars. :)
How is the space in the middle rear seat, if you have two isofix child seats installed?
i'm also looking for an answer for this question
A 15 plate BMW should not have a noisy cabin? Whats going on Bmw??
Dezz9820 run flat tyres and massive alloys
i would take msport version with regular suspension and it would be nice and comfortable
Good and big car. I loved it
I LOVE GRAN TOURER
Did he just Say seriously that he doesn’t know that he should break for speed bumps? And that’s the car fault?
Nice car I will buying
Beautiful car. I want it

What about S-Max?
great video
Awwwww, how cute is that munchkin? Never mind the car. I've been looking into a second hand Active Tourer, and like these models.
Honda Odyssey or wait for Audi to come up with something to compete against this.
Why dont u prefer a Suv?

Well it is more expensive cuz it has more features than the other MPVs

Is it still the "Ultimate Driving Experience"?
Dear god, this is like when Porsche came out with an SUV.
you mean the suv thats their biggest selling car?
You mean the SUV that literally saved them from bankruptcy?
They shouldn't make them in the first place. These brands are meant to be luxurious not to be people movers
There is not that many rich people in the world, you cannot just sell cars that are extra sporty and extra expensive and expect them to make sales instantly
Have you seen Porsche's economical situation before the Cayenne? It was horrible
buys a M car, wants comfortable (family) car...
The climate control system is inadequate. Works well in the front but rubbish in the mid section and nonexistent in the rear. A journey in Italy this summer was very uncomfortable for my grandson.
I would really really want if somebody who has lots of money could just give me this car as a gift. That would be something!
Luck z me too
name of the driver i think is steve
Runflan very bad its hard and strong I tried it before then I felt a difference so I removed it
Does this really drive better than a Ford S-Max?
I've tested both, the S-Max and the 2 Gran Tourer, for my self to replace my X1 (to small for 2 Kids). And yes, the BMW is better, it drives like a car and the S-Max more like a Boat...
i will buy the VW touran over this

SHITE BOX
Nearly slipped into a coma. Wow that guy is boring. And totally incorrect in the msport version. What a bore.
Worst BMW ever hands down.
So happy we don't get these in America.
AE86 of Mt. Akina Haha well, don't get me wrong, it's still way nicer than your usual Priuses or pick-ups down there;)
Nik Brudar That would be true in somewhere like Alabama, but it's really Toyota Rav4/Honda Civic/Corvette/Porsche Cayenne where I live.
AE86 of Mt. Akina Ah, okay:)
Nik Brudar Yeah America is big, but not the same lol
Negative car review
That's the first time I've noticed the exterior door metal on the inside of a BMW, usually the hallmark of a cheap car. What a shame, even my 2012 Vauxhall Astra doesn't have that nonsense. Lap this up, you clueless badge snobs
